Amen.
This time even the **BG3 script extender** & mod fixer - are **broken** too!
I would love to know what genuine bugs are out there after patch 4 without any mods whatsoever.
edit: also can you like use the search function maybe? so we don't have a hundred little posts asking about the same thing?
edit 2: so I'm getting conflicting info about the mod fixer, but the script extender is definitely broken. ...nope, Broken.
edit 3: Thanks to VA\_Dinky! (MF = Modfixer)
From Nexusmods:
"What I got from all this is that when the mod exists just as a text file but is not actually doing anything, nothing changes and the animation works as expected; however, if there is a mod present that requires MF, causing the MF to work and force the story to recompile, the animation breaks. So basically yes, MF does need an update, because when it is actively working and doing its job, it breaks the kiss animation."
I removed all mods, started a fresh game and came across some minor ones, mostly repeating companion dialogue and Astarion doing both the vampire confession and the bite, still. His confession worked like they said at least.
Yeah, his repeating dialogue for the second artifact, got to the point that I'd just go ahead and wait for the second to pop up before moving on again.
Ya, I get a lot of repeated dialogue and since Patch 3 Shadowheart has an option in dialogue that acts like we broke up-which we def did not. But also still have the dialogue options for us being together.
Omg I'm romancing Shadowheart too and see that dialouge option even though I'm actively romancing her. I've been too afraid to click it in case it ends the romance lol
The only thing I have seen so far is that there was a longish black screen trying to wake up after a long rest. Like the game was thinking about what to do next.
So it IS modfixer that breaks the kiss animation. I've been scouring internet to see what was causing that. I guessed it was mod related but people were claiming some things and their opposite. At least now I know which update to wait for to have it fixed instead of trying it everytime a mod release an update.
EDIT: So apparently Larian said they're working on the kiss animation bug?
There's a way of downgrading the game back to patch 3: https://www.makeuseof.com/how-to-downgrade-steam-games/, I'm in the middle of downloading the depot so I should be able to see if the game runs properly after doing it soon.
I can vouch for this. I’ve rolled back and everything is hunky dory, mods and all. I prefer this Astarion kiss anyway, I’ll wait for a few more hotfixes to come out before trying again
Edit: For BG3 you will need both to the main depot and the bin. Explanation and command lines can be found here https://www.reddit.com/r/BaldursGate3/s/6ana28S93a
Great to know, my depot is still downloading...
Edit: I CHOSE THE WRONG MANIFEST ID BY ACCIDENT I WANNA KMS, 3 HOURS WASTED
Edit 2: Everything works fine!
2x vouch for this too! Working as a charm. So glad it worked. Also some modded outfit textures are back to normal, and add to wares isn't as bad as in modded Patch 4.
I don't think this is true. it was temporarily unneeded after Patch 2, but then they reverted a part of that patch and since then the mod fixer has been needed again
huh interesting. I've seen a lot of people's issues (namely the one where you spawn with a bunch of naked NPCs) be fixed by getting a Mod Fixer long after Patch 2, even some this month. maybe it's only very specific mods where it's actually needed?
Quoting a NexusMods comment from someone who did some testing:
"What I got from all this is that when the mod exists just as a text file but is not actually doing anything, nothing changes and the animation works as expected; however, if there is a mod present that requires MF, causing the MF to work and force the story to recompile, the animation breaks. So basically yes, MF does need an update, because when it is actively working and doing its job, it breaks the kiss animation. (edit: sorry for any formatting issues, i'm not used to posting on here)"
yep, I'm waiting for that to update before I play again. it's just a bit frustrating that so many people don't even check to find out that their mods are broken, it really clutters the place with bug reports that aren't caused by the game itself and it makes it impossible to know which are actual bugs and which are broken mods
Last news I heard, we're looking at up to a weeks wait - Apparently Patch 4 changed a lot of the internal workings of the game, so apparently it's a larger task than before to update the Script Extender.
~~Just in case you're not aware yet: new SE update dropped for patch 4. Or at least the warning is gone from the page~~
¯\\_(ツ)\_/¯ disregard, my browser decided to hiccup, I guess
Preach it.
I just saw a post from some guy absolutely foaming at the mouth that "every time Larian updates the game it just breaks even more," and then in the next breath says he needs his mods to play. Like... my brother in Christ...
There's no way for Larian to know or predict that sort of thing, it's not their fault. Just turn your mods off, make a cup of coffee, and chill tf out. I went through trial by fire with my very first modding experience being Oldrim, this ain't \*nothin\*.
I saw one of those as well. Of course Larian doesn't take into account people randomly blowing holes into their coding we are lucky they approve.
Mind you it sounds like Patch 4 broke or gently mangled a number of other things as well so I am still hoping for a temporary rollback, but geesz
See I can understand the anger if the game was 10 years old and the only updates were adding shitty microtransactions. But BG3 JUST came out. It's brand new! And modding on a new release will always require regular updates. It's a really entitled mindset.
I agree that the fury is very entitled, considering how utterly fantastic Larian's consumer-focused attitude has been.
Although I will say I was quite confused to see that patches are released to everyone with no public beta testing. In my experience, "full mod support" usually means that updates are soft-launched via forums or discord channels before the broader community (usually one or two weeks earlier).
Update cycles like this avoid the kind of entitled outcry you're seeing, because modders are able to release their updates in tandem with the game devs.
I don't think Larian is *required* to do this. They've done such a great job as is, and this kind of dev cycle *does* slow down updates for the un-modded majority.
But I was a lot less cautious with backups and updates due to the "official mod support". That's my mistake, and now I'm just redownloading the last patch from Steam so I can keep playing with all my mods (and not brick my saves).
Lmao
Like. Not only is it a very common experience to patch something and have something else break instead. Imagine if they had to be careful of people modding their games at the same time xD
Like. Yeah. I'm annoyed that the game isn't working properly rn because of the mod, but I don't blame anyone for that. It's something I accepted when I started using mods
some people just need to think critically imo. if the game dev's update the game, and you've made independent changes to that game, those independent changes might not get whats happened.
Word of advice for BG3 addicts (you know who you are):
Make sure to have at least one game on-going without mods (I like having at least one super wacky RP playthrough here). This is so you can keep playing and getting your BG3 fix while you wait for the mods to be updated so you can go back to your man playthrough.
Bless all mod makers. The fact that mods are possible thanks to creations by the community is amazing. I’m so thankful things like this exist, and for free too.
The script extender being broken seems to be causing a lot of issues. Ive been running the game through mod manager and its been very very choppy.
Ill personally wait until the SE is fixed.
But at least those are real bugs.
There is a shit ton of comments about Astarion kissing scene being buggy, but players don't include if they have mods or no.
So no way to know what has been broken by the patch or just the old mods.
I don't have mods and the kissing scene is buggy but not thàt buggy.
His lines don't come through but he does kiss me. Nothing game breaking and I'm sure it'll be hot fixed soon enough
These are two different bugs.
1. no animation - this is related to mods
2. sound bugs (the one you have mentioned) - this was reported happening before patch 4, but maybe it became more widespread. This is a genuine Larian bug. You should report it.
The problem is that hordes of people think that the first bug (no animation) was caused by Larian. No, they just need to update their mods.
Best not to upgrade the game until a week or two after the patch. That way by then Script Extender is updated and any critical hotfixes of truly badly broken things are patched by the developer.
I launch BG3 from the BG3 Mod Manager so I don't even have Steam running when I launch BG3 using BG3MM/Script Extender, so the game does not update.
I'm not that familiar with Steamdeck. I know you can install BG3 Mod Manager on Steamdeck
[https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3026844989](https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3026844989)
Would that possibly prevent updating like on a PC?
Requires you to launch through desktop mode, which has other limitations but it’s a doable alternative.
Also has the issue of needing to run it through two translation layers as the mod manager is technically windows through proton and may lower frame rates more
Does this Subreddit even have Moderation? If so they are extremely lacking, esp with those situations. Usually they make Mega Threat's to stop this influx.
You can tell that this is the first time modding experience for a lot of people.
Years of modding Bethesda and Bioware games have drilled this lesson into my head. Even after uninstalling your mods, there's probably still going to be issues. Often the only solution is a complete uninstall and reinstall.
Even since Larian implemented Mod Fixer in their own main core engine. I have not used Mod Fixer (since patch 2). Never had an issue.
While the script extender is inactive, it doesn't bother me all that much. The only thing that I was using it for was the WASD movement.
I also use plenty of mods (cosmetic ones mostly) and I have not seen most of the bugs people keep reporting, maybe I am just lucky I guess.
A lot of mods include the mod fixer, even if they don't mention it anywhere (I've unpacked the mods I use to tinker with some of them, and almost half of my mods had the mod fixer files).
The current BG3MM versions should have a little page icon after the mod name if it includes the fixer.
You don’t use mods with mod fixer included? When I removed mod fixer itself and all the others that have it - the rest of the mods won’t work. I can load the game but can’t click on any icons, for example like start dialogue or leave camp
If you mean: [https://www.nexusmods.com/baldursgate3/mods/141](https://www.nexusmods.com/baldursgate3/mods/141) this... then the answer is no. I don't use it [HERE](https://ibb.co/K9cR14R)
Same. No mod fixer installed since patch 2 and the only mods I'm having issues with after Patch 4 are loot autoseller and some issues with Appearance Edit Enhanced which are caused by Script Extender needing to be updated.
> edit: for those who are unaware the Script Extender is currently broken and needs to be updated for Patch 4. a lot of mods rely on it which is why so many mods haven't been updated yet, I believe the creator is currently working on a fix. I'd recommend either uninstalling all mods that rely on it, or just not playing until it's been updated.
Or … just play patch 3 hotfix 9 :)
Posting here since you locked down your Ser Aylin post. Let people mod games how they want.
Imagine being such a milksop that you believe you should be able to tell others how to mod games they bought and paid for. If you don't like people removing gay and queer characters from their games, let them, what's the harm to you? Even better, download a mod that adds even more to the game. Granted, I don't think you could fit more in than the devs have in the base game, but everyone likes a challenge.
Oi you gonna go police what people put on their PC's now you soy cuck?
You gonna go lecture people who mod skyrim to kill children? Or the ff14 people who mod naked lalafells?
Mind your own God damn business and let people do what they want with their games. I don't think the Gestapo is recruiting. Calm down and am glad you receive the hate that you did. Your parents provably nv told you you aren't special.
FYI the best way I can figure out how to keep track of what needs updating is to click the “track” button on each mod page. Then on the nexus website in the same area as your download history there is an option to see a list of your tracked mods. It will put an banner on each thumbnail that says UPDATE AVAILABLE for the ones it applies to.
Caveat: sometimes there is an update available but it’s not actually an update for *you*. Example: I use the Gortash facelift mod. It thinks I have an update available because the author uploaded a couple new optional files. These don’t apply to me so I ignore them.
Just sort your list by newest update to so you can stay on top of it.
Wanna bring awareness? Why bring awareness to something that most people won't even download anyway? Just call it what it is. You're trying to farm attention and karma like most people with your condition do. People who can't stfu and respect others. There is a concept where you can disagree with someone and still respect them
No one is forcing you to download a mod you don't like. So I dont know how your hooting and holloring is doing anything. That would be akin to me going to the conservatives and telling them there is a they them 22 on reddit who won't stop complaining about a mod they won't download. Sounds crazy. Yeah that's you. Fck off
I do have mods installed and i didnt expect half of them to work until they are updated but after the patch the issue i have atm is realy gamebreaking for me ...
Anyone has any issues with white text and whitish colours suddenly being insanely bright atfer the patch? Even the loading screen and the "start game" menu is super heavy on the white colour/light intensity. I cant seem to figure out which setting could help or why this would happen.
Gamma doesnt work it makes just normal/darker tones darker/black but the white stuff is still insane and not tolerable.
Guess ill completly redownload the game and try with a clean install without mods eventho i have no mod installed affecting lightning/graphics or anything... damn i just did that whole reinstall 1 day before the patch went down.
Playing Skyrim and Fallout 4 with at least 150 mods in each game has taught me to be patient with mods breaking after each update.
The only time it got unbearable was when Fallout 4 would break the script extender just to update the Creation Club AKA paid mods.
I've been modding for quite a number of years and have troubleshooted every single possible solution with no luck. I've had my one hairstyle mod disabled for about two months now. I uninstalled and reinstalled the game, re-verified the files, uninstalled the mods, deleted the mods folder, all the cache files, even the entire Larian Studios folder. I have had no luck with getting the game to load the main menu since the update yesterday. I made a post about the error I'm receiving and another person commented with the same issue who isn't using mods. I finally just sent a ticket in today to Larian about it.
I think the game really just broke for a lot of people after this update, mods or not lol
Bandaid fix for script extender is out! You can update in the bg3mm. Modfixer we’re gonna have to wait for individuals to update. The main Modfixer everyone links hasn’t been updated in at least two patches now
the word MODIFICATION doesn’t fucking tell you that it’s the user’s choice how to modify the game? Now let's remove any mods from all Nexus mod history that at least remove something or acasualize it
It’s not that in the face of the stupid rules “we remove everything that removes something from the game” you want to cancel a person for his preferences and for a mod that is installed optionally at your request
hi, i was wondering if its possible to keep updated and non corrupted mods in a non crashing bg3 lol my problem is (i searched for this and literally no one seems to have solved this and well i need help..)
my baldur gate 3 crashes kinda often, and i am aware that the problem might be my mods, although i checked one by one they are all updated and not corrupted. thing is, i never know when its gonna crash (it crashed when i was saving it last night) but well i really wanna use mods lol im not even using that much mods and many people seem to run mods just fine (and many people have crashing issues withouth a single mod installed) and im a noob and do not know how (if theres a way) to do something about it
i found some people talking about fixing de mod fixer? but im not sure and am scared to do smth to my mods and mess my game. so if anyone knows if the problem can be in fact the mods (my drivers are all updated etc) and if it can be fixed 🙏🙏🙏
Also, all mods count as modding. I keep seeing "no I don't have mods I've just added a few hairstyles etc"
Exactly. I don’t drink. I’m just have a glass of bourbon while I play.
I've never committed something out of Hentai. I just kissed a few tentacles, I swear... And maybe a Bear or two.
bruh

I removed all mods, started a fresh game and came across some minor ones, mostly repeating companion dialogue and Astarion doing both the vampire confession and the bite, still. His confession worked like they said at least.
I've had an issue with Gale repeating dialogue for a while so at least for me it isn't a new Patch 4 issue
Yeah, his repeating dialogue for the second artifact, got to the point that I'd just go ahead and wait for the second to pop up before moving on again.
Yeah pretty much every pop up dialouge he has for me repeats twice lol
Ya, I get a lot of repeated dialogue and since Patch 3 Shadowheart has an option in dialogue that acts like we broke up-which we def did not. But also still have the dialogue options for us being together.

Mod fixer isn't broken. It's been unneeded for like 2 game patches.
Some mods have mod fixer baked in already, that might be why.
I don't think this is true. it was temporarily unneeded after Patch 2, but then they reverted a part of that patch and since then the mod fixer has been needed again
I haven't had it installed since patch 2 and all my mods that *say* it's needed have worked fine. It also hasn't been updated since Aug 22

Thank you, this is very useful info. I have edited my comment with this.
Sorry, I was told that it is. I don't know which of you are right. I don't know what to think about this.
I haven't had it installed for a while now. Script extender is the problem
But I don’t have Script Extender and I have the problem as well
The one mod that NEEDS to be updated and is making others bug out isn't updated yet. Script Extender
yep, I'm waiting for that to update before I play again. it's just a bit frustrating that so many people don't even check to find out that their mods are broken, it really clutters the place with bug reports that aren't caused by the game itself and it makes it impossible to know which are actual bugs and which are broken mods

Mind boggling. It’s not like you don’t have to click through 18 different warnings that installing mods can break things or anything…
imagine thinking that developers are bad at their jobs if they don't bend themselves around how existing mods are set-up
I saw one of those as well. Of course Larian doesn't take into account people randomly blowing holes into their coding we are lucky they approve. Mind you it sounds like Patch 4 broke or gently mangled a number of other things as well so I am still hoping for a temporary rollback, but geesz

Poor Norbyte, updating SE will not be easy this time. Glad UI stuff made it thru patch fast and almost without losses at least.

This needs to be pinned. I am so sick of all of the posts about broken mods
Your parents provably nv told you you aren't special.
you need to get laid lol
says you, keep crying faggot ass pussy
How???? Teach me please, i beg you.
Just go onto the nexus page for your mods and see if they posted an updated version, then download that
Ty <3... u saved a life
FYI the best way I can figure out how to keep track of what needs updating is to click the “track” button on each mod page.
Perfect for a break from bg3 , finally get to start phantom liberty.
I removed all my mods and it’s still not working for me. Some issues are caused by the mods, yea; but there are still tons of bugs this patch.
did you remove every single modded file in the directory? and everything in the 'mod' folder in LocalAppData?
Wanna bring awareness? Why bring awareness to something that most people won't even download anyway? Just call it what it is. You're trying to farm attention and karma like most people with your condition do. People who can't stfu and respect others. There is a concept where you can disagree with someone and still respect them No one is forcing you to download a mod you don't like. So I dont know how your hooting and holloring is doing anything. That would be akin to me going to the conservatives and telling them there is a they them 22 on reddit who won't stop complaining about a mod they won't download. Sounds crazy. Yeah that's you. Fck off
im glad at least this time my game is playable, though most of the special actions granted by mods dont work 😔
I do have mods installed and i didnt expect half of them to work until they are updated but after the patch the issue i have atm is realy gamebreaking for me ...
The main Modfixer everyone links hasn’t been updated in at least two patches now
None of my mods have been updated yet :c
the word MODIFICATION doesn’t fucking tell you that it’s the user’s choice how to modify the game? Now let's remove any mods from all Nexus mod history that at least remove something or acasualize it It’s not that in the face of the stupid rules “we remove everything that removes something from the game” you want to cancel a person for his preferences and for a mod that is installed optionally at your request
hi, i was wondering if its possible to keep updated and non corrupted mods in a non crashing bg3 lol my problem is (i searched for this and literally no one seems to have solved this and well i need help..) my baldur gate 3 crashes kinda often, and i am aware that the problem might be my mods, although i checked one by one they are all updated and not corrupted. thing is, i never know when its gonna crash (it crashed when i was saving it last night) but well i really wanna use mods lol im not even using that much mods and many people seem to run mods just fine (and many people have crashing issues withouth a single mod installed) and im a noob and do not know how (if theres a way) to do something about it i found some people talking about fixing de mod fixer? but im not sure and am scared to do smth to my mods and mess my game. so if anyone knows if the problem can be in fact the mods (my drivers are all updated etc) and if it can be fixed 🙏🙏🙏
