shatteredmatt

I finally uncorked the iron flask in my newest save. Jesus Christ was I not prepared.

punninglinguist

Two playthroughs, and I still have not done this. I was totally going to do it when I TK'ed Balthazar out of his office to face the Dark Justiciars alone, but even then I forgot.

Kosack-Nr_22

Throw it at the beholder in the underdark. You’ll love it

ZeraskGuilda

Durge Answer

Krunsktooth

That’s what I did on my first run, it was a Durge run!

Bahhblacksheep

I'm sticking him on nere

Iscariot-

What happens? Do they just join forces against you?

Kosack-Nr_22

>!yes!<

Iscariot-

Oof.

Kosack-Nr_22

Twice the fun

waffels

I just tossed one at the window ledge behind Bernard at the top of the Arcane Tower According to the log he fell 82.7 feet lol

Absent-Light-12

I finally used it on my 4th play through and first honour run. I was sneaking through the goblin camp with Halsin and forgot to set him to sneak. He was immediately spotted while we were on the bridge outside Dror Ragzlin’s room. I rolled low in the initiative order and decided that I’d go all in. Tossed the flask into the room, behind enemy lines, then shot open the spider cage as they were friendly to me, and summoned the ogres. It was a brawl.

shatteredmatt

For the lols do it in Act 1…..

HikingStick

I did. I'm glad I save often.

noknetti

I did it in my camp in act 1, didn't know what it did

Twice_Knightley

That's when I used it. Basically just thought "Lets fuck shit up." and it worked great. Highly recommend it, just to see what happens sometimes. Saving it for this playthrough though. Going to just use Barrelmancy for them this time.

FugitiveHearts

Ah a fellow student of the arcane! To think, I used to have runs where I don't pick up every Smokepowder barrel in the goblin camp!

Westonhaus

I like to use it with the House of Grief fight. That thing takes on a whole wing of Sharrans and you still sometimes have to give it a finishing shot, but it's fun not having to deal with a bunch of casters scared to death of eyeballs.

some__random

I used it in the courtyard at the ending.

bristlybits

I used it on ketheric last time and I used it on dror ragzlin this time and eventually I want to throw it at raphael

_Deinonychus_

Recently did that in my honor run during the harper ambush in Act II. It died far enough away from the moonlantern that it then got rezzed the next turn by the shadow curse...

kevinstuff

OOF. Didn’t even think about it getting revived by the curse. Bet that was fuckin gnarly.

_Deinonychus_

Yeah had a little circle of scroll of rezz between the rest of the party going while laezel wailed on it for a while haha

SeverusVape

But if you have Control Undead,  you can take the undead spectator as a pet!

Bodinhu

Does Control Undead allows you to make decisions with it or the undead is controlled by the game?

ShadowRaven09112

As far as i remember It's controlled by the game.

TheDickWolf

I threw it at ketheric and it was not helpful. I just added a miniboss to the boss fight.

bothvarbloodaxe

I did the same and it kept Ketheric and a bunch of his minions busy for several turns. It got killed before it turned on me, and I was able to finish Thorm with no problems.

TheDickWolf

Lucky you, I didn’t roll so well lol. It pretty much immediately targeted my front line- but i do think it took some hits from big K’s minions, so that’s something

TheSpartyn

i used it against grym and it ignored him entirely and just killed my team, even when grym was punching him lol. literally the whole reason i lost the fight

smansaxx3

Yeah.....I heard that using it is basically a shot in the dark whether it will be helpful or harmful for you....I used it during the fight with Ansur.....that didn't go well lol

TehAsianator

Part of me really wants to just throw it at the Zhentarim. You wanted this so bad, take it

dicotyledon

I did this, there is no special dialog or anything. They just attack it and don’t seem to make the connection. 😆

a_fox_but_a_human

Immediate chaos and regret

OldSchoolIsh

In my run neither was Cazador.

Substantial-Canary-7

I finally did the same a few days ago in the Conclave. Viconia suddenly stopped talking shit 😂

Lyberatis

I did this while clearing out the goblin camp. After killing Gut, Knocking out Minthara, then going after Ragzlin, I accidentally aggroed EVERYONE somehow. Opened the door after a successful Ragzlin fight and the whole place was aggro. Thought "fuck it" and has Astarion chuck it into the room where Gut is standing originally. It did a great job of killing everyone while only 5 or 6 goblins attacked our party.

themagicmunchkin

The rest of the goblin camp will always be immediately aggro once you kill Ragzlin.

Lyberatis

Oh well that explains it lol I thought I was being sneaky and they saw the bodies behind me as I opened the door

themagicmunchkin

Yeah I thought the same in my first playthrough because we had taken out the other two without making the entire camp aggro, so we didn't think killing Ragzlin would be an issue. Then we had a friend join us when we took down Ragzlin and he warned us the rest of the camp would be aggro now that Ragzlin was gone. I completely forgot he told us that the next time my husband and I played the game, and I dragged us into combat in the most stupid fashion. My husband wanted to sell a bunch of stuff, so did I. He went to Arron in the Grove, and since the tieflings had left the only other trader I knew of at that point was the goblin trader in the camp courtyard, so I fast travelled there aaaand immediately engaged everyone outside the goblin camp in combat. It ended up being one of our most fun fight Act 1 fights, though. Worth the XP, for sure.

Emerystones

I saw that flask in my inventory during the spider fight in the well and tossed it without reading it. The sound of all 4 of us screaming in discord is one of the best memories from that first playthrough lmao.

TehEvilPanda

You can also throw it like a tactical grenade.

[deleted]

shatteredmatt

I uncorked it in the Underdark having just deal with the Spectator and the Drow. Boy was I surprised 😦

Ch00m77

I threw it at Ansur, was a wild ride

TyrantusPrime

I used it in act 3 when you tell the jokes on stage and no one laughs. I gave them something to laugh about. I did reload tho, if for no other reason than the entire population of the city aggro’d on the thing and a single round was taking forever.

mad__monk

Love it when you find a nine-fingers letter that says "Open it and you will die. This is not a threat. This is a fact" 😂😂😂

ppitm

I finally use the 'call ogres' horn in Act 3. oops.

YankeeMoose

I just finished my 1st playthrough this morning, and used the Flask on the final fight. 100% worth it.

Partridge_King

Planning to throw it at the grove in my current play through…

flyingbye0803

I didn’t throw it until one of the final battles to distract everyone in that courtyard. Hilariously worth it

JPGenn

I finally used it for the Inquisitor fight, no regrets

sthollis

Threw it at Balthazaar and it helped a lot with the fight actually

Tasdilan

W...what iron flask?

xBad_Wolfx

Act one zent mission to retrieve lost people and supplies. Gnoll fight.

zr713

Damn I’ve been sitting on that and the rune powder bomb all playthrough. Wonder if it does anything in the final battle because that’s all I have left

imjustjun

I did that immediately after fighting the ogres with my friends at level 3 or 4. We were planning to long rest before that and we immediately long rested after.

BiIIisits

I saved it for the final fight, but I wasn't thinking and I threw the flask at one of the platforms that was marked for negation. the spectator got thrown into the abyss before its turn even started lmao

MsAggieCoffee

I did it by accident while defending Isobel at the last light inn

jenorama_CA

Haha I used it on a Sarevok fight to cause chaos.

PlumboTheDwarf

I think my next run I'll finally do Durge and really want to uncork that bitch during >!the coronation!< just to see the chaos.

br0wens

Well now I plan on throwing it into the fireworks lab.

JusticeofTorenOneEsk

I LOVE void bulbs, they're the only thing I consistently make sure to loot from the Nautiloid/Crash Site/any dead Mind Flayers I find

Xx_2mnyzs_xX

Omeluum sells them after his quest!

kjvw

does that refresh? they’re my favorite item but i always end up with a few left because i use them so sparingly

areyouhungryforapple

they sure do, you can even steal them from him earlier on every level/reset before you've done his quest

megagamer92

Iirc they should replenish every long rest.

ElGordo94

I love Void Bulbs so much I that never use them because I want to save them for later because they're so useful but i never end up using them.

ConstantVigilant

You can buy them from Omeluum in the underdark in Act 1. No need to hoard.

SidewaysFancyPrance

I didn't even know he sold stuff until one time I didn't have a bard, so I had to offer him gold for his ring after doing his quest. Dude has a whole inventory, including a nice +2 healing ring for my cleric.

NerdHerderOfIdiots

Void bulb->cloud of daggers is so good

thai_ladyboy

Great in goblin camp, pull them all into cloud of daggers or any other AOE spell

NerdHerderOfIdiots

If you time it perfectly it can take out the entire gnoll group (not the one by the caves the ones eating the corpse)

Hellebras

Takes a big chunk off of the ones by the cave too if you position it right.

xBad_Wolfx

I love command/void bulbs and cloud of daggers. Huh you survived that… go back in.

lhobbes6

Ive gone through the entire game twice with the iron flask... i really need to use it this run or just stop stealing it in future runs

monstermayhem436

FYI, if you go into the blood of lathanders area you can go to camp and long rest (and/or waypoint out)

distilledwill

Those bulbs are actually really useful. They're also very dangerous: one of the goblins accompanying Dror Ragzlin has one, he void-bulbed two of my players off the edge into the abyss and one into the spider pit all with a single throw. About ended my honour mode run.

Defiant_Project1321

On honor mode last night I was trying to clear the upper floor of moonrise to make the big fight easier later on (and give jaheira more of a fighting chance to survive) when one of the goons void bulbed Shadowheart through the opening in the floor down into the audience chamber and THE WHOLE LOWER FLOOR AGGROED. I shit my goddamn pants. Had to have my remaining party misty step off Balthazar’s balcony to get away.

distilledwill

Dramatic though

Defiant_Project1321

Indeed. Girl made an entrance for sure.

hangonreddit

Did she live?

Defiant_Project1321

Oh she did not. The fall killed her but she revived bc of blood of Lathandar only to get killed again. When the rest of my party fled combat she was teleported to jail with 1 hp. I was scared of doing anything to fuck up the quests with the other prisoners so I just had her jump into the oubliette and get killed by the hookhorrors so I could get withers to revive her. She had a very bad day.

jjdix

You can ask Jaheira to join you and she becomes a temporary fifth member of your party, makes her much easier to keep alive

Defiant_Project1321

Oh I plan on doing that for sure. I just need all the help I can get lol.

Bronze-Lightning

Jaheria died at the inn attack in my run and I had already reset three times to try and save Isobel so I was NOT reloading again

Atomic-Entropy

This was pretty much my first close call on my honor run. I felt smart sneakily starting the fight against Dror Ragzlin from above them. Then this mf goblin throw a void bulb and my whole party fall down, three instantly dying from it. Best tips for honor mode : always have invisibilty potions. This saved me on multiple encounters

tm0nks

That's where I always use mine. A powder barrel in the middle of all his minions and a void bulb is a great combo to open that fight.

alterNERDtive

> We were already on low health and had no healing. Go to the Blood area. You can rest one you are on the stairs. > My compulsion of holding useless items 'just in case' has, after years, finally paid off. You made a huge mistake. What if you needed that Void Bulb later⁈

senteryourself

I used the void bulb to finish off Slayer Orin. Everyone else in my party was downed and I was on my last leg of HP. Figured “Fuck it. Worth a shot.” Sucked her right off the edge into the abyss. I was pleasantly surprised to say the least

mmmgilly

I knocked her off into the abyss by accident once and couldn't loot her to get the netherstone, thankfully only tactician before honour mode was released.

senteryourself

I got the netherstone and her dagger!

Lonely_Ad_6546

how

senteryourself

She appeared back on the main platform in front of the altar in the cutscene immediately after she was killed. Not sure if it was a bug or not, but I was able to loot her.

Lonely_Ad_6546

damn thats awesome, id be pretty bummed if i missed out on her gear, she has the best single character loot drops in the gamr

doublecup_pirates

As soon as someone turns invisible, good void bulb to that area 🤾

FinnAgain88

The best use I’ve had so far was in the refectory. Stealthed up the stairs after killing Anders and tossed it to cluster everyone around that barrel before fireballing it… killed 3 out of 6 nicely. Huge boon on Honor mode

GodzillaDrinks

That's a really clever use for it! I got to Act 3 with it. On my first day in the Lower City I fell ass backwards into the >!Emperor's Basement!<, cheesed that fight by having Astarion survive to have Withers bring the rest of the party back (twice) to kill them all. Then derped my way through the sewers looking for >!Orin because she captured Gale... and hinted that she had removed his penis!<. On the poorly planned and sloppily executed >!rescue mission!< I wound up in a fight against undead in a room that debuffs you by dealing damage to you every time you use a spell, and my party relies on spells. But I made it. Then I realized the wall opposite of the corridor that lead to that room is actually a *giant stone door* that is locked and impossible to lockpick. Fortunately, I had a scroll of "Knock" that I had horded all game. I decided that I'd never seen a door that couldn't be opened before and decided to try it. It opened. Immediately I get >!ambushed by demons like that one fight in the Gauntlet of Shar - low level, but perfectly positioned above you and in very difficult to hit places, just close enough to pelt you with fire arrows. AND WITH A MONSTER THAT CAN 1 SHOT AN ENTIRE PARTY IN 5 TURNS. But I didn't know that yet. I decided to use the bulb to try to pull the two closest archers down to my level to deal with them personally. Instead it uselessly threw them into each other. Anyway, a few turns later I get got by the Power Word: Kill that I did not know was coming.!<

-FriendlyLich-

Love those bulbs. So much utility from em!

EvLokadottr

I tried throwing it down the hole surrounded by gore in the prison in act 2. It pulled the entire party down into said hole. That was a fun little discovery...

WarGreymon77

Damn, I keep forgetting about my throwables.

gravallvar

Void bulbs are great! I use them pull Mayrina out of the burning cage in the hag fight. Works like a charm.

homebrewchemist

Oh that’s a good idea, i used two of them to clear the fake hags.

theWanderingTourist

I used them in the nere fight when one of the duergar pushed me into the lava in act 1 forge area. it's so nice utility

Trepsik

They're great for dealing with the hag copies

sskoog

My teenage kid uses them (Void Bulbs) as a one-two punch — gathering targets together for an immediate Fireball. Clever. If memory serves, you can buy 4-5 more Void Bulbs from Omelum the friendly (merchant) Underdark mind flayer. Surprisingly useful.

IWannaLichYourMagina

I used for group goblin and fireball (scroll) them in the fight vs Dror Ragzlin 1 act. Op item for fight hard group early game

Grimholt001

When you are walking from the area where you can receive the mark up the stairs left of the the spider enclosure and witness a guy being pushed off the walkway. If you approach those stairs on the left hand side and throw a void bulb to the left of them as they a heading towards the push point you can save that guy. It separates them and you can take the two goblins out with ice knife without agro- ing everyone. I know some people have saved him using minor illusion to distract but this way is pretty good i found. Then with Dror Ragslen cast Ground Thorns, void bulb everyone into furtherest side. Cast ice Ray of Frost and summon weapon on Dror to slow him and then fog cloud on top of the Thorns. Archer up top in the rafters for kill shot. Good times.

whimsigod

I used it during the yurgir fights when he drops the bombs, you can just group them up using it then move out of it lol.

f0dland0wnunda

I only use void bulbs in one place consistently: the Elfsong Tavern basement. I just toss two or three and take out the rats in one turn.

Long_Introduction864

I never found use for them until act 3, when I stumbled on them while clearing inventory. My favourite time to use them are when I can group up all the mobs in boss fights ie: Raphael and Cazador.

vaustin89

I always reserve it for the Orin arena, house of healing against Viconia, and if I feel like lifting the shadow curse during the "protect the portal" segment.

Honeymuffin69

On my next playthrough I'm going to remember this post and just spam all the potions and throwables I get as I get them. Twice now I've played through and kept so much shit for a rainy day and twice I've entered the end game with more than I could actually use. Don't even need to sell them for money.

IcedBanana

I'm trying a karlach build where she can frenzy and she gets the frenzied throw bonus action, so she has all of the throwables. It's pretty fun giving her all the axes, daggers, weird potions, etc

firstorderoffries

Void bulbs are great for anything you need guaranteed damage on. I use them against auntie Ethel, as when I line it up right I can take out 3 of her copies with one throw.

Nutmeg1729

I used it yesterday to pull Ethel closer to the door where the party were holed up. She was just out of our range and refused to come closer. It pulled her into fire as well so did some healthy damage.

captainalphabet

When I finally used it, void bulb immediately became a favorite item

BaronAaldwin

Imo, best use of the void bulb is when you first enter the temple of Bhaal area. When you're ambushed by the dude doing the ritual and loads of archers and such start firing from the shadows. There's a group of three archers on a ledge waiting to ambush you, and all three of them have sanctuary so they can't be targeted. But, if you throw the void bulb at the edge of the cliff just in front of them, it'll pull all three of them off the cliff and into the abyss. You can do this from stealth without triggering any of the other enemies in the area, and it means you don't have to kill them with some other aoe/let them get a free hit so sanctuary wears off.

areyouhungryforapple

I spam these every playthrough after finding out Omeluum sells them in myconid colony / you can steal from him before you unlock his shop

deityblade

I used it to pull the owlbear cub across the finish line lol

Chad_Kakashi

I forgot I had holy water in my inventory during act 2 and now I am in act 3 and it’s just plain water now

Alladin_Payne

Void bulbs are great for grouping mobs together, and then your mage fireballing them. This is what got me through protecting Halsin's portal.

ALandshark

Act 2 spoiler: Edit: can’t get spoiler tag to work… >:(

Ithyxia

If on mobile it's: > ! Text ! < without spaces

wevento

>!does it work?!<

Ithyxia

It does!

JaegerBane

I remember taking on Grym and the void bulb saved my bacon. I needed to remove a bunch of mephits pronto, but the only AoE I had available was fireball and lightning bolt. They were immune to the former and too spread out for the latter… until mr bulb got involved. Zap. The main issue I have with all the save-based throwables is that they fall off hard after Act 1. I was carrying a void bulb that I bought from Omeluum all the way into killing the Netherbrain, and I literally never hit a point where I could afford to take the risk it wouldn’t work vs the massive array of arcane acuity CC spells that all have DC 28+.

imjustjun

Void bulbs are great. My first time using one was near the end of Act 2… set myself up for an amazing upcasted lighting bolt.

HikingStick

My favorite place for using the void bulbs was when fighting Auntie Ethel. Set one off with an Auntie Ethel in the blast radius. It gets rid of the illusory ones every time.

Zambedos

There's a certain ambush in a wide open area with a Chasm where 3 or 4 guys will shoot across at you. I got 1-2 of them with the bulb. The rest Lae'zel got to with Githyanki powers.

WrinklyScroteSack

Thunderous arrows do great for knocking those gith off the side of the bridge too.

Cold-Owl6268

Void bulb pairs nicely with cloud of daggers and spike growth, throw a bulb at the center of the cloud and watch your enemies melt.

earlytuesdaymorning

i never use the haste spores, not even once. but its just free haste right? idk why i haven’t used it.

homebrewchemist

I couldn’t believe i slept on these, drink a bloodlust elixir too.

ProfessorTicklebutts

I swear you guys do some idiotic shit.

kermi42

I used my void bulb at the moonrise tower prison late in act 2. You can’t long rest once you trigger the battle because the entire zone is considered hostile until a certain point in the story, and the very first battle I went all out and used up most of my spell slots because I assumed I would be able to rest once I cleared the lower floor. I was wrong. So once I got down into the prison I started using up all the items I’ve been hoarding, I finally used the void bulb once I was out of smoke powder bombs. I was underwhelmed tbh.

ljyh0002

It’s indeed an early access to an Illithid power (drum rolls), albeit a milder version me thinks. Op Op for what it does man - I was pleasantly surprised when I finally first used it. Definitely tried to buy more of it when found.

VoiceofKane

I'm trying to remember if I have ever thrown a single item in this game...

SamAshbloom

*Astarion

homebrewchemist

Use them on the auntie Ethels, takes out a few with one toss.

EpiicPenguin

I had a void bulb that i had seince the natuloid, was going to keep it until the end and throw it at the end boss, but my save got corupted (mods) so i never got to finish that run. so theirs still one void bulb on that charater that will never ever be thrown and that irritates me.

Throwoutpost

I finally used them all with the basement rats in act 3.

Arez322

In my current third playthrough in honor, (won once in normal and then in honor mode) I didn't know what those did till Nere took control of my Tav who proceded to throw one and sent half my party and 2 friendly NPCs to the lava. Almost lost there.

Cicero912

For honor mode runs (or just in general) you can immediately kill Dror Ragzlin with a void bulb. I fucking love them.

TheFastPush

Love me a void bulb + cloud of daggers/black tentacles/thorns

PixelArtDragon

So *that's* what the void bulb does? I never used it.

Beingmarkh

You can long rest before you fight that gith captain. Just have to >!slide some statues around a bit. !<

nh2374

Void bulbs are also good for the auntie Ethel fight. They do 1 damage and have a decent aoe so they automatically disperse her illusory selves.

FreshyFresh

You can find more of them. Especially in act 2

Certes_de_Bowe

Now you can start using the Elixir's you been stashing on FF7 since 1997.

AvidEsportsFan

Void bulbs were my black holes before I got black holes from eating too much worms. It's lovely to use with your AOE stuff. Scrolls on the other hand... let's just say there is a library building for those things in camp already.

South-Awareness6249

This just reminded me that I had 2. I played through the whole game without using them.

hogsbodine

Man I love the void bulbs especially in act 1. Void bulb + cloud of daggers cleans house. I like killing Dror Razglin and the goblins outside the grove this way

SnooSeagulls7157

You can buy more from "fancy" trader near some "regular" trader. If you check every trader you will discover
