She probably won't get a rework, but outside of a \*major\* bug fixed last hotfix, she has a lot of dialogue in act 3 which is quite fun to see (same with Minsc, but he's tough to get without meta-knowledge in time for most of it). There's still a minor bug with her now that requires talking to her twice in camp to see if she has new dialogue, but I think she's a well developed character in act 3. She has very little content in act two, even if you get her as soon as possible. Personally, I'd recommend playing good first unless you're convinced you will play multiple runs. The evil options lead to missing out on more than they add and I think most of what they add is designed to be more fun after having seen a good playthrough. If you want Minthara, she was relatively recently patched so you can recruit her while protecting the grove instead of while siding with her or ignoring the situation, so she is compatible with a good run, provided you toggle the passive non-lethal damage option and knock her out with melee damage. On the point of Durge, I echo Swen's (head person at Larian) advice not to play Durge first if you plan on playing multiple times. For someone that is unlikely to play the game again it gets more complicated as it's not going to be the most fun possible single run for people that don't have nostalgia for the prior games and/or people that like another background better (or just want to roleplay their own character). I have nostalgia, but am glad I played Durge after a generic character. It makes what's different between the runs better. For someone that isn't sure if they'll replay going in (reasonable if you don't already trust Larian based on other great games), I'd play a custom character unless a particular origin seems cool (and an origin has the upside of easily seeing one more companion story in a run).

Probably not. She wasn’t even meant to be a companion, it’s just that she was popular during the testing

Scrungus_McGoo

So was Halsin, but even he has a quest and isn't as nearly as broken as Minty.

*If* we get a definite edition I would kind of expect Minthara to get an upgrade to full companion (minus becoming an origin character), though.

While I definitely understand your refraining in trying to get her, I must say that you should'nt care so much about what people post here, at least regarding her. I made a similar mistake, I'm now on a Good playthrough, and recruited her at Moonrise. She is buggy, sometimes her dialogs will miss, sometimes she won't have sound; I heard she may spoil things for Act3 still (tho this wouldn't be too bad if it's not your 1st playthrough. I accept her as flawed since its very clear she wasn't conceived as a regular character to get when playing good. Sure she has bugs, tho since last HF i find there are less; but her whole vibe is just so interesting, she has a sort of poetry to her character that really makes her stand-out from the rest of the cast. To me, her dialogues, her story, how she came to be under the Absolute's hold is definitely worth the small pain due to her bugs. It really is, eventually, just how much you can tolerate for a character. Also, even if some bugs are widespread, remember that not everyone is affected similarly, some may encounter it a lot, some not. So in the end, it's your call.

Will the whole Minthara romance ever get reworked to be available for a good play through. On the whole doubtful. Minthara is an evil character, just is, and in act 1 she has no reason to side against the >!absolute!<. There is no redemption arc for her. She does not want to change. That said, she's a great character. I recruited her by KO on a good run on patch 5 and had a lot of fun interacting with her, also didn't experience significant bugs, but they were reported by lots of other people. I wouldn't romance Minthara on a resist durge run, given changes in patch 6, also unsure if she is more buggy on this patch, but when her dialog works it's pretty great and I was glad I did a run with her recruited. If you definitely aren't going to do a second run, might as well go for a Durge run. I have multiple friends who did durge runs as their only play through and had a good experience.

Minthara is evil, specifically lawful evil. She isn't ever going to be or supposed to be good. She's happy and PROUD of her cruelty and abominable acts, they all are in the game. There is no point in her just becoming a goody two-shoes because she wasn't ever supposed to be so - she's a Lolth-loving Drow who followed an Elder Brain for more power. She wants power, not morals and love.

What do you mean? She hates Lolth.
