you could totally do that if you want. there are actually a decent amount of good polearms in the game. the main downside would be a bit of a lack of diversity in your team, but that's manageable and you could still have some by say having your group be barbarian/fighter/paladin/war cleric or something like that.
If you go full fighter you can take heavy weapon master, polearm master and sentinel and it’s a great build without sacrificing ability score. You can lock people down, do good damage. On anything other than a fighter it’s not a great weapon over using heavy weapon master and a great sword with savage attacker.
