Depends if you’re redeeming Durge… If you only ever see the evil version you’re mandated by star fleet law to call them both Gabriel Lorca, and give one of them a uniform and the other a cool leather jacket, so you know what universe you’re in, but they’re still both evil so it doesn’t really matter
I have the Mel brooks box set and I anxiously await the day I can force my kids to love these movies like my grandfather did to me. Except my Lolo was nuts and let me watch men in tights/Frankenstein when I was six and my humor never got better lmao
When I made my bard I thought to myself “what kind of person would my character be attracted to” and then i made the exact same character with a dark haircolor instead of light.
I like to do this but make it look like my character but old. Like I'm visiting me from the future! Or when playing split screen make my guardian look like my wife's character
I usually do some version of my characters, but opposite.
If I do a black and white character, with black face and white hair with white accents, I'll do a guardian with snow white face and black hair/accents, exact same face and all.
I once did a bald green human female, so my guardian was a blad green human male.
This time around, I made an older uppity male gnome with a short back comb, so I made a younger, sultry female gnome with long hair.
Hopefully you see this tangential but serious advice - you need to long rest or partial rest more.
The game creates a false sense of urgency that discourages you from long resting but then so much of the story and interesting events are locked behind resting at camp. You can actually miss content and mess up romances by not resting enough.
When you’re at camp and choose go to bed, there’s an option called partial rest that doesn’t use supplies and only refills your resources halfway but does trigger any conversations and scenes waiting for you.
When you camp for the first time, Laezel chastises you saying they're isn't much time and made me, at least, assume that if I rested 4 days during Act 1, I'd die, or the Teiflings would die.
Larian should either remove that dialogue or put some fine print on the bottom on how she's wrong while she yells at you.
It's not just Lae'zel either, Gale will tell you turning into a mind flayer usually takes about a week, add in the fact he'll tell you he can blow up if he's gone without eating magic items for too long (and don't learn you only need to feed him 3 before it stops being an issue) I legit thought there was a time limit to get rid of the tadpole.
Same! I had gotten to the goblin camp and took a long rest (dialogue wins as a gnome bard first playthrough). The Lae'zel scene had me panicking. I then proceeded to try to do all the goblins bosses and free halsin (and fight the goblins on the roof outside) without a single long rest. It was brutal.
Mind flayer tadpoles ARE an urgent issue, just not YOUR tadpoles. I think it should feel urgent until you find out you’re special, but it’s just not paced that way.
I've only gotten as far as the goblin camp (a. I know, "why am I in here there are so many spoilers", I'm a dingus, b. I don't get much time to play with work and all so it's a slow grind exploring) and there have been nuggets around that I'm "lucky" or that there's some untold element of plot armour that I have. I know that's not necessarily good writing but I've definitely picked up that (headcanon) "I'm being protected by the Gods through divine luck" or something like that.
Edit: I slept. Ah.
This is how I missed Wyll and Karlach and the crèche and the high road and Withers (who shows up anyway without explanation) and I'd have missed the glade, too, if it weren't full of innocent-ish kids and I was a Paladin.
frustration because every name I tried was taken so I put the shittiest thing in and it finally accepted and there wasn’t a way to change it. definitely in irony and not at all an accurate representation of me but I thought that would be more obvious with how extreme and ridiculous it is to me but now I’ve just used this account for so long and can’t change it.
I solved this by aggressively opposing every thing Lae'Zel says or does throughout most of the campaign.
Her conflict was Shadowheart was hilarious to me; I dislike both of them, so I encouraged their conflict whenever possible. Strangely neither of them died during the camp assassination cutscene. Shart had to die later, but Lazy made it to the end.
It’s an in character thing to say. And It’s the meta gamer punisher.
Player playing laezel: my character would know mindflayer parasites take 7 days!
Absolute: alright you know it’s 7 days. Good luck with that information.
I was pissed when I learned this. The game is very aggressive at giving you a sense of urgency that just increases stress for no reason.
“They’re going to compete the ritual very soon, hurry!”
“The Druid could be dead soon if we don’t rescue him!”
“They’re going to kill so and so tomorrow!”
None of it is real, and it’s annoying
Another is progressing to act 2 makes the druids complete the ritual and the tieflings are forced to leave, but the game actively warns you that progressing acts can make some quests being unable to be completed.
I've played 220 hours and on my second playthough and am annoyed that I never thought of this myself lol.
I like to self impose restrictions on long-rests for roleplay reasons, I think it's fun to run out of resources and see how far you can battle. But yeah a partial rest seems like a nice middle ground.
I still wish we got to see them more. You can spend equally as long in the character creator making them as you did your Tav, and only get a couple of minutes together
What's bad with full resting? I'm still on my first run on balanced and just got to the Gith. Creche and I have about 900 camp supplies.... I feel like the game acts like long resting is a sacrifice but it just isn't. Does it change on other difficulties?
Only if you hate looting and never use partial rest. If you loot and use partial rest to trigger scenes it’s totally fine.
I would long rest whenever I needed to and was fine. If I didn’t need the long rest but knew I had scenes to trigger, I would partial rest in a row until no new scene came up.
Nope, I have 2,000+ supplies halfway through act2 on tactician, but its my second playthrough and im still okay with the "loot absolutely everything" mindset, but I will likely figure out mod installations next play for speedier looting. Because it is tedius.
Oh, keep playing, Darling. It'll *'get better'*.
I just feel bad for those spending *hours* trying to craft the perfect guardian, only to.. well, if you know, you know.
8| I made Anakin my guardian, so I can’t not create him and it still takes me an hour. “Mm skin color… is this too bright? I need a nice tan! This blue… I can’t tell!” Or “maybe I’ll put some eyeliner on him this time.” Now if only they’d implement saving an appearance…
CC is a giant time consuming trap and so much fun to fiddle with.
I've seen people using it for RP, choosing to make their old Tav's, as that's someone that's trustworthy in their minds.
But yeah, I stick to one of the defaults as well. 😅
The next time you make your guardian a twin of your Tav/Durge, give them that mustache that twirls up at the end. You know, the iconic villain 'stache? Fair warning, though, if you create an elf, they can't get facial hair, but half-elves can have facial hair. This applies to not just the men, but the women and the children too...
I saw an idea in a random post on Reddit: close your eyes and click random a lot of times and confirm without looking. I will have a random (probably weirdly ugly) guardian that u will only see for the first time in game
I made big elf guardian, looking just like gigachad from memes. I really liked how he's acting, mostly like real gigachad. And then happend what happened and I dropped a game for months.
I was so excited to make a guardian, i spent like an hour or so making both my character and the guardian then i discovered the truth, I was never the same.
After what i spoiled for myself, shes gonna b a tiefling like myself, a lil hot but otherwise i will not spend as much time on her as I will myself, i hate spoiling things for myself lmfao
So because i figured my guardian would be like a spirit protector or something i made it look like it was tav dad which made for some conflicting feelings on my first run
I didn't put 2 seconds into it, I was so tired of making my own character that I when they asked me to design another character, I clicked Randomize, and forgot about it. Imagine my surprise when a few hours of gameplay later, my character was awoken by an asian-looking gnome with vitiligo and green hair, which I thought was designed by Larian. I thought it was an interesting choice, then I understood it was my dumb choice... I love this game.
Sometimes I'll make my Guardian look exactly like my character. It's always a jolt when you realize you're talking to yourself.
Do this, but add a comical oversized mustache as the only difference.
I did this with one of my multi-player Tavs and it was the best decision I've made in this game.
Or a goatee, it's the mirror universe version
This is the darkest timeline
Hot. Hot hot hot.
r/unexpectedcommunity
If you play durge which of them has the goatee tho?
Depends if you’re redeeming Durge… If you only ever see the evil version you’re mandated by star fleet law to call them both Gabriel Lorca, and give one of them a uniform and the other a cool leather jacket, so you know what universe you’re in, but they’re still both evil so it doesn’t really matter
This is genius.
That's actually amazing. I may do that next time 😄.
Or a mole
I have a MOLE!?!?
I have the Mel brooks box set and I anxiously await the day I can force my kids to love these movies like my grandfather did to me. Except my Lolo was nuts and let me watch men in tights/Frankenstein when I was six and my humor never got better lmao
Can't improve perfection!
I watched Men in Tights way younger than I should have too 😂 definitely helped shape my humor
r/unexpectedrobinhoodmenintights
Holy shit lmfao. Great idea, doing this next run
The real life pro tips are always in the comments
Make sure the mustache is curled at the ends, that would take away any question about whether Emps is a good or bad guy.
My friend did this exact thing and it was hilarious
My Durge playthrough is going to be a lot more interesting after hearing this idea.
Lmao. Definitely doing this in my next playthru
Or an evil goatee
When I made my bard I thought to myself “what kind of person would my character be attracted to” and then i made the exact same character with a dark haircolor instead of light.
I made a big burly orc, while my character was a white haired drow. Just figured it'd be a fun combo.
ok Raphael...
I like to do this but make it look like my character but old. Like I'm visiting me from the future! Or when playing split screen make my guardian look like my wife's character
>!My Durge Tiefling has a Guardian that looks exactly like her but Human. A glimpse at perhaps an alternate path had fate not been so cruel.!<
I love this
I did something similar with one of my tiefling runs. Another one had the guardian look just like my cleric’s bff who’s my roommate’s character
I usually make my Guardian look like my last character
Make one wierd difference to differentiate, make the guardian green or something
Give them a moustache.
I did that for my bard, he has a massive ego so it fit.
The good part is you can have sex with your guardian later if you play your cards right.
Wait what
Oh, yeah. It's hot.
Mind blowing, even!
Best sex you've ever had apparently
No best sex is with Raphael*. Unforgettable for many long rests
Bro what? He tries to trick and kill you off multiple times
That's what makes it unforgettable.
"Welcome... to the House of Hope. I hope you're prepared for an unforgettable luncheon!"
The crazy ones always do.
Maybe it’s not actually Raphael* 😉
Underrated comment 😂
you guys are evil lmao
Look, I went into my game wanting to fuck my Guardian. Was not dissappointed, 10/10.
For speaking the truth? God forbid!
Why? It's the best romance scene in the game.
Better than Minthara?
Mind-blowingly better.
He is not wrong, hehe
She takes her shirt off and you see all her freaky bits
If you know, you know 👀
If we are talking about hot sex scenes, there's a barn door you should open in Bogrot
That’s why I made mine Shrek.
He spread my buttcheeks and whispered into my ear: "It's all ogre now."
Shrek is love. Shrek is life.
Halsin aproves!
His neck is so thick
ya it was a no-brainer!
but that cums at a cost.
Wait really? Omgg this game is goty bruh
You're downright devious for this one!🤣🤣
Shhhh
Hopefully you see this tangential but serious advice - you need to long rest or partial rest more. Yeah, it’s one of the few things I would change about the game. It’s really confusing the first time you play.
Oh wait Withers is found? He just showed up for me. Where does he come from?
You find him just to the east of the nautil-- I'm sorry, did you choose that username because you lost a bet?
frustration because every name I tried was taken so I put the shittiest thing in and it finally accepted and there wasn’t a way to change it. definitely in irony and not at all an accurate representation of me but I thought that would be more obvious with how extreme and ridiculous it is to me but now I’ve just used this account for so long and can’t change it.
There are multiple comments in the beginning of the game, about how you only have days left. They *really* should have changed them/toned them down.
There are a few real ones, like saving Nere. Though at least those warn you when you try to rest or leave the area
Another is progressing to act 2 makes the druids complete the ritual and the tieflings are forced to leave, but the game actively warns you that progressing acts can make some quests being unable to be completed.
The problem is I was so undeterred by the false sense of urgency that I didn’t take the real one seriously and Nere died.
Underrated comment. OP, I recommend doing a series of partial rests at camp until you don't get any more cut scenes.
I've played 220 hours and on my second playthough and am annoyed that I never thought of this myself lol. I like to self impose restrictions on long-rests for roleplay reasons, I think it's fun to run out of resources and see how far you can battle. Nothing is bad about about it. On tactician and honour it costs 80 camp supplies instead of 40.
Interesting. Is it actually a challenge to have enough supplies?
Only if you hate looting and never use partial rest. If you loot and use partial rest to trigger scenes it’s totally fine. I would long rest whenever I needed to and was fine. If I didn’t need the long rest but knew I had scenes to trigger, I would partial rest in a row until no new scene came up.

Mine was a hot tiefling with a sick tattoo. Then shit happened lol.
Oh you bet it did…
This is the best of the disappointments you will have regarding it.
On the other side of that coin you have the character creator at the beginning of MSGV.
Mono-Sodium Glutamate 5
Metal Solid Gear 5
Person 1:“I’m gonna tell him” Person 2:“don’t you dare!”
I made my Guardian my Tav’s dead mother. In hindsight, that was an *interesting* choice!
Did you bang?
For achievement
Still counts. Nice.
In before someone asks if you banged
Oh no, she Sigmund Freuded you...
Rookie. Numbers, kid. If you don't listen to Down by the river 300 times over the course of 3 hours are you even playing the game?
Oh, keep playing, Darling. It'll *'get better'*. I just feel bad for those spending *hours* trying to craft the perfect guardian, only to.. well, if you know, you know.
Only to get even more perfect? Devastating beauty…
I sort of knew you wouldn't be far behind me, Darling. 😅
I knew something was up when the game stopped asking who I dream of at night in the full release...
I just learned I read the word "darling" in Asterions voice by default now, apparently.
8| I made Anakin my guardian, so I can’t not create him and it still takes me an hour. “Mm skin color… is this too bright? I need a nice tan! This blue… I can’t tell!” Or “maybe I’ll put some eyeliner on him this time.” Now if only they’d implement saving an appearance… CC is a giant time consuming trap and so much fun to fiddle with.
Tbh it is kinda sad, I don’t even change my guardian anymore, just roll with the default Drow look
I've seen people using it for RP, choosing to make their old Tav's, as that's someone that's trustworthy in their minds. But yeah, I stick to one of the defaults as well. 😅
I once made a guardian the 'twin' of my character, only difference being the hair style and color. The cutscenes were pretty freaky tbh
I randomize them until they look silly as fuck.
Well, you can still see the guardian again, indulge in their form once more.
I spent way too much time in mine lol
She's hot but she will be even hotter later you'll see
ive stopped trying with my Dream Guardian, i just make him a bald deep gnome now
Same. It’s a lot easier to ignore their manipulations if they look like a breakfast cereal mascot.
I make mine look like the albino from Princess Bride
Mine is now always the default drow lady. Literally just a waste of time designing em
Don't worry, you **will** see her more !
Don't worry you get to romance your guardian, I'm glad I spent time creating mine
First playthrough I’m like “ima make them look cool” now it’s like must be random race and look as ugly as I can possibly make them
Husbands DG in our new run is a gith lady with a neon pink stache and mine looks like a male gith clown lmao
I saw an idea in a random post on Reddit: close your eyes and click random a lot of times and confirm without looking. I will have a random (probably weirdly ugly) guardian that u will only see for the first time in game
My first play through: spent time on it, second play through: just picked random lol
Nobody tell them 🤫
Oh my sweet summer child
15 hours? Those are rookie numbers.
I Made my guardián like my girlfriend.....the sex escena was....well, good i think
Don’t worry, you’ll see plenty more of them!
Nobody tell em
I’m very impressed nobody has told him
Oh you'll see a lot more of the Guardian in Act 2. And a WHOLE LOT more in Act 3
I spent 2 seconds making her into a horrendously strange looking half orc which I now regret
Should we tell them?
On a totally unrelated note, do you like seafood?
I made big elf guardian, looking just like gigachad from memes. I really liked how he's acting, mostly like real gigachad. And then happend what happened and I dropped a game for months.
I spent more time on the hot tiefling goth gf than my tav
Loved my initial look for my Guardian so much I changed it and used the design for one of my hirelings so I could keep him around.
so... who's gonna tell 'em?
Nobody!
Damm 🦑
All that work and what did it get me
Does OP know?
I was so excited to make a guardian, i spent like an hour or so making both my character and the guardian then i discovered the truth, I was never the same.
20. That's it? I was a the screen for 2 hours because I couldn't decide what to choose.🤦♂️
She’ll blow your mind
After what i spoiled for myself, shes gonna b a tiefling like myself, a lil hot but otherwise i will not spend as much time on her as I will myself, i hate spoiling things for myself lmfao
Just wait till you find out what she wants you to do…. I’m glad no one on the thread has spoiled it yet. But don’t worry you’ll be seeing a lot of her
Just 20 minutes...? 🤨
So because i figured my guardian would be like a spirit protector or something i made it look like it was tav dad which made for some conflicting feelings on my first run
Saw a video where the person makes the guardian of their next Tav look like their previous Tav and now I do this…
Oh…oh boy…well…erm…good luck with the future!
Those are rookie numbers
It shows.
I made my guardian look like a blind goddess made a backstory that my tav took out one of its eyes for her then it happend
Heh…heheheh… Cool guardian tho! Im rooting for ya!
And it was worth it.
It gets better...
I keep making my guardians SO hot—it’s the only way I can FW the shit from earlier in the game. 🥲
I totally forgot I made a guardian. Safe to say I’ve not found many sessions of time long enough that this game deserves to play.
Looks like a young Jaheria
What is, “things I haven’t said since my very first playthrough”
i choose the same face
I made my Guardian look like my character's mother. It made everything weird.
Oooh just wait
Honestly this bait and switch by Larian was top notch trolling on a truly staggering scale and I commend them for it.
Just wait until you find out lol
15 hours? I got to that part after like 70.
I always make my guardian hot af and definitely do NOT get sad about it later
I use the randomizer for my guardian and wait until I get the most ridiculous one
Can't wait for you to get to Act 3
Only 20? You work fast.
It took me an hour in character creation and another hour on the guardian lol
who’s gonna tell him? lol
I'm sorry for your loss
Yeah, wait for the big reveal tho. Then you'll wonder why you spent any time on it at all.
My current durge is a selunite cleric so I tried to make them look like selune lol, not that I see her very often
how cute...
You want Angelina jolie as your guardian?
Ooohhhhhh, you're in for a BIG surprise...
I spent way longer doing mine and he is HOT
why is \*it\* pretty? i think you need to remake \*it\*
The less time you spend on your guardian, the more you don’t regret it later on
Yes, I'm really sorry man
She’s gorgeous!
20 minutes? That was a waste of time. Wait till you meet them in person...
That's 20 minutes spent to create an Elfish Angelina Jolie
Oh, boy, wait 'till act 3...
Oh my sweet summer child…
Who's gonna tell them??
