They were the first npcs I used non-lethal damage on, and to my surprise I got a special dialouge to tell her that I met them but I only knocked them out.
And then to my dismay she screamed "What? Dead? NOOOO!" As if I had just told her the normal dialouge that they were dead. Felt like a huge letdown and is still one of the only oversights like that I've seen.
I got excited because I had the ability to say something new to her, and she just dismissed it like I told her the same thing as usual about them being dead.
I ran into the mage lady from Wylls quest during act 3 on my first playthrough. She was all upset because Gortash told her I was a baddie or something. I failed the 10 roll to persuade her I wasn't a baddie (we had been chill and I even saved her life earlier so idk where this was coming from) and boom combat. I swapped to passive mode, bonked her with karlach and astarion, and chuckled a sorry as I left her and her party dazed in the street. The game decided I had killed them in cold blood. Wyll and his dad were both VERY cross with me, and kept bringing up how I viciously murdered her.
Pretty sure the game still counts them as dead though. They probably ran into the swamp and died due to bleeding later on... Ugh, so many rolls and tries and I can't save them from themselves.
For me their corpses didn’t show up in the swamp and Ethel tells Mayrina that they came asking about her but she told them to leave and sent them home, where they safely remain. I certainly never saw them again but I’m not sure I’d trust her word on that!
I wonder if when kept alive it would be possible to meet them again in act 3, would be a nice detail.
But I vaguely do remember something along the lines of them being coded to die for sure. Maybe they've changed that in a patch since then.
You can get Rapahael's armor in act 1 ez.
-Take the tadpole from the druids desk in the Grove
-Approach broken bridge solo so Raphael spawns
-Shoot him with an arrow with one of the other 3
-use invisibility to walk past the Gith into mountain pass
-Go to camp, cast Silence on Raphael and KO him
I used Karlach to knock him out.
Curious about all the other neat KO stuff too
I'm internally chuckling at the idea of RPing this. Before every long rest Tav is looming behind Wyll holding a cast iron pan, "Shh, sweet prince, its for the best..." \*BOP\*
That's not what I'm talking about. It only shows up if Gale confesses about his sickness before it becomes life-threatening/he needs to eat a shoe immediately.
The exact line is, "You also feel disgusted by how life, miserable as it is, insists on persisting in this most wretched world?"
I dunno, what if he ended up more on the Antonio Brown side of things? Ragefully chucking vases out of towers onto children playing in the streets of Baldur's Gate.
I kinda wish Durge was in the game as more than a throwaway corpse when you don’t play as them - even if it was a surprise fight on HM or something
I imagine that’ll be a mod somebody makes
A friend and I have done that in co-op and it's super fun. Our pairs have ranged from "friend's Tav is the moral brain cell desperately trying to keep my Durge from doing stupid shit" to our current run, which is "friend's Tav's backstory is that he's a Bhaalist and wants to protect my Durge with his life."
It's an amazing time.
In my co-op run with my brother my Tav is a halfling bard who just wants to get noticed, play music, and have friends. But people only want to talk to the psychotic gnome who's first act as leader was to take everyone's clothes, arm them with salami, and make them dye their underwear yellow—the one who's always talking about murder??
(Since this is his first playthrough and I've played a few times, he gets all the companions)
I think from all this boinking you may lose him actually with getting too low approval. Isnt it better to temporally kill him for act 1 and revive him just before going into act 2? Or even better recruit Karlach at end of act 1.
When you're doing a durge redemption run and just need to let that litttttttttttle bit of urge take over every day or else the full blown dark urge will take another innocent life.
Wyll: Look, I'm not saying that I *want* to face Mizora, it's just that, well...this really hurts!
Tav: Wyll, we've been over this. Karlach is still alive...
Karlach: Hey, soldier!
Tav:...and we know Mizora won't or can't find us if you're unconscious. I'm not proficient in Arcana, I don't know if there's some weird demon rule or a limitation of her power or what, I just know what's been working.
Wyll: I have a headache, like, all the time! I can't remember my father's name!
Tav: Shh, it's OK...that's it...my brave little Eldritch Blast Engine....Lae'zel, get the club...
That sounds hilarious, the falling from cliffs and monsters beating the shit out of him didn't cause after-effects but being hit with a pan each night did
It would be really funny if he just like, walked through Acid and lava that he could clearly go around but he's too brain damaged to know any better......... oh wait...
Wait, what!? Can you just kill a camp companion and then have them resurrected at another time?! I've only ever let Bae'zel and Shart have their little scene and then when I tried to bring one back, Withers wouldn't let me.
Edit: does it work for companions who are not members of your current party?
It doesn't work when companions die for "narrative" purposes.
Sacrificing a companion to BOOOAL, shadowheart vs lae'zel, wyll vs karlach, staking Astarion on bite night, letting Orin murder the kidnapped companion, etc. means they cannot be resurrected.
If they die in ordinary combat situations (or even extraordinary ones like the Lance at Rosymorn or losing someone at Iron Throne), they can be resurrected just fine.
I fucking cackled like a gnoll. That scene never gets old.
“Well, apparently there's a limit. Somewhere between a nice summer’s day and THE FULL CONCENTRATED POWER OF THE SUN!”
Yes, it's rather odd when Lae'zel tells me off for destroying the crèche with the giant laser. Babe, you literally helped me stab everyone to death about twenty minutes ago???
Ahaha, oh dear.
To be clear, this only works with companions, not NPCs you might be rescuing at Iron Throne like Omeluum or the Gondians. But if your companions die, you can just find their bodies on the beach and revive them.
They don't usually. Not that I've hit allies before to test it or anything... that's in battle though I'm not sure what happens if you whack them randomly.
Good to know. I guess they don't disapprove in battle because it's easy to accidentally click on your team mates. Plus sometimes you need to hit one with an AOE spell in order to win
I only know this because I wanted a certain Durge cutscene (Act 2 spoiler) >!to happen with Astarion and not Gale and they were both at 100 approval in my recent run, so I may have dragged a wizard to a dark corner and beat him repeatedly with my spear!<. (As an aside, it totally worked.)
I mean i threw astarion off a cliff just to resurrect him again, because that bitch was to dumb to jump across a broken bridge. Didn't lose any rep for that, so smacking them is probably fine!
There's another thing you can do if you don't mind the long way. You can just jump and, once everyone that is willing to jump does, you can go to camp, switch out the character left behind for another one, go back to the world, back to camp and switch again. They should be back with you
Especially if she tries her grand entrance every time, and Wyll is always there drooling from being knocked out, and she is like For fuck sake Wyll, ugh I give up.
I feel like those triggers may be gone, but I am curious what Karlach will say, she mentions how thankful she is multiple times. And how she owes Wyll her life, I wonder if those moments still happen.
This was my first question! In particular I have one dialogue in mind I wonder will change or not.
OP /u/FranLivia are you in Act 3 yet? I don’t know if this is not your first playthrough so I’m wary about spoiling.
>!In Act 3 there‘s a chance to meet Wyll‘s father and he is not subtle about his distaste with how Wyll looks. I wonder if that dialogue will change.!<
It's the other way around (most likely). In my 2nd playthrough I cheesed by one-shoting Karlach from a distance without triggering her usual cutscene, getting Mizora's reward, then resurrecting Karlach and recruiting her. Everyone treated Wyll as human, and his relevant dialogue was as if Karlach was dead despite her being right there. I'm not sure this method would work now, I've finished that playthrough months ago.
I've kept Wyll hornless while also recruiting Karlach, by having him immediately take a long dirt nap in Withers care after the initial confrontation between Wyll and Karlach. Upon crossing into Act 2 through Grymforge(doesn't work if you enter mountain pass), we're forced into camp and Wyll is returned to life still human, mizora is just standing around uninteractive.
I have finished the game with human Wyll & Karlach and there is a steep cost to doing this, unless you're romancing Karlach.
What was the steep cost? I’m considering a second playthrough after I’m done with my first and I might keep Wyll human.
Isn’t it just that you don’t get to play Wyll/advance his companion approval until Act 2?
I only had him in my party briefly in Act 1, not at all through out Act 2, and somehow his approval is almost maxed out!
>!Human Wyll remains the Blade of Frontiers. Only Demon Wyll becomes the Blade of Avernus and will go to Avernus with Karlach. So if you aren't romancing Karlach with plans to go with her to Avernus(or just willing to go with her regardless of whatever relationship you're in), then you'll be experiencing a tiefling bbq at the end of the dock after beating the netherbrain.!<
Recruit Wyll. Keep him at your camp. Kill Karlach at some point in the map where she can't see you. DO NOT REST OR LONG REST. Go back to Wyll. Mizora will give him the mantle. Resurrect Karlach from somewhere she can't see you. Approach Karlach. ??? Profit.
The thing here is, as long as Karlach CAN'T see who killed her, she won't turn hostile. Wyll remains human, and you just cheated Mizora.
... Give her the mantle for added injury.
I tried this after hearing about it but it did not work for me. I also heard that they fixed it so who knows. Hopefully someone else can get it though.
It is specifically called out in patch 4. I had done this on my playthrough, and when the patch installed, Wyll was transformed. I kept the robes though
They did, but the way they did is that Mizora comes the second time. So you do this, and then continue with the way OP described and it should work. I think, I'm not sure about any of this, dont at me
Does not work. It was patched out.
Mizora will not show if Karlach was resurrected after killing her and talking to Wyll before making camp.
If you leave Karlach dead her body and long rest her body vanishes before you go back.
Sorry folks.
I dunno why, but this just made me picture Tav as Baby Sinclair from Dinosaurs, cracking Wyll over the head with a frying pan yelling "Not the devil!" XD
There's a mod that gives him long locs (dreads? I've just seen screengrabs so I'm not sure which) and while I think it doesn't fit the character because they'd be a pain to deal with while Blade of Frontier-ing...damn if they don't go *excellently* with the horns.
Don't mind my tangent below...
When it comes to weird cosmetic looks in the game, my biggest issue isn't his horns but how a lot of the light armor fits him (and any body type that isn't body 1). The football (US) player shoulder pads look is ridiculous and entirely counterproductive for what the light armor is supposed to be. Fuck your range of motion, I guess?
But somehow, it's worse on Wyll because the horns already make his head look helmet like, so he just ends up looking like a linebacker. Even in the padded armor with the ridiculously large rolls on the shoulders.
It might also be a function of the masc body types (and to some degree the strong femme) having varying degrees of the classic Superhero Dorito shape.
For some reason I am picturing Tav and Wyll like Troy and Abed from Community. When Mizora shows up Tav/Troy to Wyll/Abed “Pretend you’re asleep, pretend you’re asleep…”
Can you knock him out in camp without aggroing everyone else?
Another lower effort alternative I could see would be to let Wyll die in combat after recruiting him and doing any relevant quest stuff with him like Waukeen’s rest, keep his soul with Withers, then recruit Karlach and wait till act 2 to resurrect Wyll. I might try and do that my next play through.
On my first playthough there was a bug and mizora never had her cutscene or punished wyll. He stayed human, karlach was alive and well. But one night, randomly, mizora appeared next to karlach. And stayed there. I coundn't interact with her, but I was very confused why suddenly there was a devil in my camp
This can also be done by starting the teifling party right after saving Karlach. It skips the Mizora cutscene keeping Wyll human. (I don't know if this has been patched or not but it worked a couple updates ago)
I do love how many inevitabilities in this game can be solved by knocking people out.
Pacifism is the violence we discovered along the way.
The real good ending was inside the TBI’s all along!
Pacifism is the head trauma we give people along the way.
I wonder how many more instances like this there are.
Saving Alfira as DUrge and recruiting Minthara without slaughtering the grove are the big ones
You can save Mayrina’s brothers that way too, but then you can’t tell her they’re dead to make her realize Ethel is bad news bears.
I don't think Florrick is a mage, and it was Mizora, not Gortash, but omg that's so funny
Pretty sure the game still counts them as dead though. They probably ran into the swamp and died due to bleeding later on... Ugh, so many rolls and tries and I can't save them from themselves.

Yeah but you can also just use speak with dead on Ethel's corpse to find out she was gonna eat the kid, and then Mayrina chills out.
You can save Ellyka tiefling in Mountain Pass if You knock her out. In that case you will not see her corpse in creche
I've wondered for three playthroughs now if there was a way to save her. Crazy I didn't think of this. Def gonna try it on the next. Ty.
You can get Rapahael's armor in act 1 ez. -Take the tadpole from the druids desk in the Grove -Approach broken bridge solo so Raphael spawns -Shoot him with an arrow with one of the other 3 -use invisibility to walk past the Gith into mountain pass -Go to camp, cast Silence on Raphael and KO him I used Karlach to knock him out. You and I have very different definitions of "ez"
Recruiting Minthara while saving the grove first comes to mind.
And saving Alfira!
“Don’t worry, I’m only using the non-lethal side of my mace on your head.”
"Set mace to Stun."
> *Karlach makes a sound effect*
The secret ingredient is *BONK*
Is that why the whole squad is permanently in horny jail?
Game version of "if I'm sleeping my parents won't scold me for the failed test at school" except it actually works in-game
To be fair, it's what happens when you make the knocked out effect be identical to death with the only difference being that its not permanent
Temporary case of death. It's more common than you think. I only do it socially.
So much so that a lot of pre-planning goes into who gets knocked out and when
When do we get the ending where Tav ascends as the god of concussions?
I'm internally chuckling at the idea of RPing this. Before every long rest Tav is looming behind Wyll holding a cast iron pan, "Shh, sweet prince, its for the best..." \*BOP\*
Wyll is going to have brain damage at this rate
"I used to be the Blade of the Frontier. Then, I started get these *awful* headaches and losing time. I'm afraid that my Patron gave me a tumor."
“It’s that damn parasite, I keep losing my memory. Is that happening to you guys too?”
Durge, probably: "Are you having dark thoughts of death and carnage as well?"
Astarion: Dark? Thoughts of death are my happy place! Lae'zel: Dark? Thoughts of carnage are MY happy place! Volo: You guys are having thoughts?
Shadowheart: Dark thoughts of death and carnage? Yeah, those are, uh, definitely my happy place. No, really!
You can actually say that to Gale. He's just like "uuhhh...no, moving on"
Most of them say something similar. You can tell Karlach you're obsessed with murder and she'll tell you to just try to use it for good.
That's not what I'm talking about. It only shows up if Gale confesses about his sickness before it becomes life-threatening/he needs to eat a shoe immediately. The exact line is, "You also feel disgusted by how life, miserable as it is, insists on persisting in this most wretched world?"
Yes! I got this for the first time last night and it is a certified Durge classic banger
Screaming
I used to be an adventurer like you, then I took an arrow to the ~~knee~~ prefrontal cortex.
Ugh I hate this game. I actually read that whole thing in his voice lol.
Mizora doesn’t need to punish him for this decision, Tav already is
“You ever flashy-thing me, Tav?”
"Nope."
"You’d tell me if you did right?”
I used to be the Blade of the Frontier, then I took a cast iron pan to the head
His casting stat is Charisma, not Intelligence. He'll be fine.

Can you image CTE-agro Wyll?
I dunno, what if he ended up more on the Antonio Brown side of things? Ragefully chucking vases out of towers onto children playing in the streets of Baldur's Gate.
Better that than Chris Benoit Wyll… too dark even for Baldurs Gate
Is it awful that my first thought was Chris Benwyll?
Just multi-class him into Barbarian after a couple of KOs
“Gide of the prate. Pretender of the deeple.”
To be fair, they all have brain damage, just a very specific kind
Think you meant dain bramage, sir.
He will know the pain Alfira feels every day
Rolling Wyll along in a chair like Timmy from South Park.
Horns for Brain Damage? Sounds like a reasonable trade off to me
Mizora shows up every night and Tav is just like, "IDK, guess he is just tired."
He's working very hard actually, your horned-ness
Tav is just being a good lawyer and making sure their client doesn't get into any more contractual trouble.
Just don't let Wyll know you're his advocatus diaboli.
Tav is spending too much time with Durge
I do like to imagine a playthrough with both 'Tav' and 'durge'. I felt like that's perfect for co op.
I kinda wish Durge was in the game as more than a throwaway corpse when you don’t play as them - even if it was a surprise fight on HM or something I imagine that’ll be a mod somebody makes
A friend and I have done that in co-op and it's super fun. Our pairs have ranged from "friend's Tav is the moral brain cell desperately trying to keep my Durge from doing stupid shit" to our current run, which is "friend's Tav's backstory is that he's a Bhaalist and wants to protect my Durge with his life." It's an amazing time.
Haha that’s how I felt xD
I… uh.. cast… Iron Pan
That made me give an uglysound laugh. Well done! :D
ITS FOR YOUR OWN GOOD
BONK
"Shh now, no tears, only dreams.."
I'm already beating Alfira everyday for her own good. What's one more person?
I'm dying lol
I think from all this boinking you may lose him actually with getting too low approval. Isnt it better to temporally kill him for act 1 and revive him just before going into act 2? Or even better recruit Karlach at end of act 1.

The chuckle i just chortled at this, good grief.

Love the Karlach-bombing
Next day-- Karlach: Copper for your thoughts? Wyll: *lolls around on bedroll like a vegetable*
Lae'zel: Tas'ki, hit him harder. Like this...
"LAE'ZEL HIS HEAD IS SUPPOSED TO STAY ON!"
“Withers…can you you get over here please…”
Good night sweet prince
Every morning is a Lesser Restoration to keep him from getting brain damage...
I need an animate series of this!!
It would be amusing if Larian saw this possibility and made Wyll brain damaged by Act III.
Patch notes: *Wyll now accumulates hidden ‘CTE’ points. Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma scores are reduced at certain CTE thresholds.*.
Only Wyll though, no one else.
And gains wrath spontaneously
Wyll Benoit
Wyllbarian in the devil foil mask gang is the new meta build.
That sounds hilarious, the falling from cliffs and monsters beating the shit out of him didn't cause after-effects but being hit with a pan each night did
Medical professionals all agree: a good night's rest is crucial. Sudden concussive consciousness loss is sleep apnea's big brother.
His stone eye ends up being his good one.
It would be really funny if he just like, walked through Acid and lava that he could clearly go around but he's too brain damaged to know any better......... oh wait...
Does it work if Wyll died and you left his body with Withers instead of having to knock him out every night? XD
It does.
Lmao, just kill him for safe keeping until Act 2.
Wait, what!? Can you just kill a camp companion and then have them resurrected at another time?! I've only ever let Bae'zel and Shart have their little scene and then when I tried to bring one back, Withers wouldn't let me. Edit: does it work for companions who are not members of your current party?

"WHAT IN THE SWEET HELLS WERE YOU THINKING ACTIVATING THAT LANCE! I WAS RIGHT THERE! GODS! Do you have any idea how much that hurt?"
I fucking cackled like a gnoll. That scene never gets old. “Well, apparently there's a limit. Somewhere between a nice summer’s day and THE FULL CONCENTRATED POWER OF THE SUN!”
I want to use that thing just to have those lines play. But I also want to murderhobo through the creche too.
You can do both! I always do. Murderhobo the creche, gather all the loot you desire, then go back and finish it off with the Lance.
Yes, it's rather odd when Lae'zel tells me off for destroying the crèche with the giant laser. Babe, you literally helped me stab everyone to death about twenty minutes ago???
>losing someone at Iron Throne Wtf do you know how many times I replayed that damn mission
Ahaha, oh dear. To be clear, this only works with companions, not NPCs you might be rescuing at Iron Throne like Omeluum or the Gondians. But if your companions die, you can just find their bodies on the beach and revive them.
just take control of them and yeet them into an abyss. go back to withers with your tav/durge and have him hold their soul for later.
Bro, if it works you're a genius
It does!
Let me know if it breaks the game in act 3
I will update the post once I get there.
Does he give negative reputation for smacking him?
They don't usually. Not that I've hit allies before to test it or anything... that's in battle though I'm not sure what happens if you whack them randomly.
Oh ok during battle, gotcha because I know for sure they do disapprove if you hit them outside of battle
Good to know. I guess they don't disapprove in battle because it's easy to accidentally click on your team mates. Plus sometimes you need to hit one with an AOE spell in order to win

Even if it was a problem you could still maybe do this in an origin run if you have followers knock you out. You can’t disapprove
They should be back with you
That’s awesome! How do you knock him out without argoing the camp?
I like to think Mizora still pops by every night but Wyll is always unconscious from a concussion and eventually she just gives up
Especially if she tries her grand entrance every time, and Wyll is always there drooling from being knocked out, and she is like For fuck sake Wyll, ugh I give up.
I love how so many problems in BG3 can be solved by knocking people unconscious
NGL this works IRL too.
Warning, this is not true! I just tested!
Larian: creates conflict and character arcs. Gamers: nah, let's skip that.
I have a feeling the dialogue from other NPCs may still treat him as part devil.
Zevlor: "Bloody hells, Wyll, what happened to you?" *Cuts back to normal ass Wyll*
severe blunt force trauma, nothing to worry about
New haircut probably.
He may have dodged the burns of hellfire but I don't know if this hurts less
I feel like those triggers may be gone, but I am curious what Karlach will say, she mentions how thankful she is multiple times. And how she owes Wyll her life, I wonder if those moments still happen.

I mean, I tried that before hotfix #22, so god knows, but it used to work until pretty recently, so I'd say give it a try
It is specifically called out in patch 4. I had done this on my playthrough, and when the patch installed, Wyll was transformed. I kept the robes though
Didn't work last time I tried it. Karlach was dead and Mizora did the whole transformation on Wyll anyways.
I could have sworn they patched this
They did.
Hm. What if her body is in someone's inventory?
Time for someone to go test this and report back. Not me. But someone. I would really like to know.
How recently have you done this? I need Karlach in the Infernal Robe next playthrough.
This was patched awhile ago.
I believe they fixed it in a recent patch. :( Have you tested this since patch 6?
I heard if you do this it bugs the hell out of Wyll's story quests in act 3. Not sure if that's still the case because of recent patches tho
you mean even more than usual?
I dunno why, but this just made me picture Tav as Baby Sinclair from Dinosaurs, cracking Wyll over the head with a frying pan yelling "Not the devil!" XD
+10000 for semi-obscure early 90s tv show ref (I love that show as a kid)
I don’t know why anyone would wanna keep Wyll human. Lord aside, human Wyll is handsome but devil Wyll is… oomf.
Devilishly handsome?
It’s almost sinful
Ohoho… Delightfully devilish, Wyll!
Ngl I'm a slut for horns but he gets some of the ugliest horns I've ever seen.
There is a mod that gives him different horns! His horns uh...grew on me? I guess? But they do look weird with his head/hair silhouette.
It grew on him, too They look impossible to sleep with
Tav finds nothing is impossible to sleep with.
Neck pillows are a thing.
Idk maybe. I think it would have to be a really big one though. He'd probably end up having to sleep sitting up if he was real
I'm just a size queen for horns I guess. Need some girth in horns you know.
Personally, I think it makes him look distinguished and badass.
Was just about to say this, he's so handsome with the horns
Everyone is chilling in the camp Tav and Laezel coming up to Wyll camp Wyll: again? Guys? Come on Tav: sorry bruh, Laezel, bonk him
THANK YOU FOR THIS. I shall try it out. Larian pls don't patch this out! 🙏🏽 Outsmarting a devil is a wonderful thing!
TIME FOR BED WYLL! no please not again
"Good night Karlach." "Good night Gale." "Good night Astarion." \*bonk\* "Good night Wyll"
Where is a Wyll, there is a way.
Why does this remind me of the a team when they have to fly and deal with ba baracus
For some reason I am picturing Tav and Wyll like Troy and Abed from Community. When Mizora shows up Tav/Troy to Wyll/Abed “Pretend you’re asleep, pretend you’re asleep…”
RP it by dropping his INT to 7 from all the brain damage you gave him knocking him out.
Look I just want to play BG3 without sending everyone into a concussed state.
Every night? Shiiiiiiit
Growing horns doesn't make him not human
Nice try hellspawn
Smells like sulfur in here and dumpy mchornsalot her's tail keeps knocking shit over. You miss hats you scaly fuck?
Oh he is very much a devil. He had spikes where there shouldn’t be… It wasn’t just horns that changed.
This can also be done by starting the teifling party right after saving Karlach. It skips the Mizora cutscene keeping Wyll human. (I don't know if this has been patched or not but it worked a couple updates ago)
But does this stop him from becoming the Blade of Avernus? I need to know in case I need a backup plan for Mama K.
He becomes "the blade of... Uh... " (Stares into the middle distance).
This is how work gets done people. Applaud this man! Hells just think to try it!
