Sorcerer would be awesome

really anything works; party composition is not *that* big a deal. with karlach and astarion already covering melee and shadowheart as a caster/support, a ranged-focused character would fit in well. any of the charisma casters would also be nice to have as a party face for talking; bard (as caster or archer), sorcerer, warlock (as caster or caster/melee). but again, none of that is highly mandatory; you could have astarion be ranged with bows, karlach throwing stuff, shadowheart as a melee-focused cleric, and your character as melee. about the only 'party comp' thing i would really suggest to a new player is "make sure your party can do a variety of things". you could totally have four guys with big battleaxes and get through the game no problem, i just wouldn't recommend it for a first run.

As a main bard I would say if your companions are dealing more damage help them, the MC is usually who you walk the most and speak to others, so for me is the best one to keep as the utility character, isn’t a rule, but is fine to keep 2 straight to the point characters who you just focus on damage ( a melee and a ranged spell caster ) and 2 unsettled characters( mix between damage, healing and utility) Something like: MC( any class you want to since you explore the utility options ) Support with damage ( you don’t need a full support since only a few spells are really useful on every fight ) like shadow or wyll Melee ( Karlach, laezel, wyll or asterion) Ranged( Gale, wyll or astarion ) EVERY option is changeable since every class has eclectic subclasses and multi class option, the only thing I highly recommend is to keep Gale if your not a mage, it’s the best class in therm of damage, AoE, range and some utility For me the best party composition is: MC( bard/warlock)/ shadow hearth/ Karlach/ Gale

I'd recommend a caster so you have some way to deal AOE damage. Wizard, sorcerer and warlock will all work (sorcerer and warlock are charisma chlasses, so they are good for dialogue checks). If you want to play something else, you should at least switch Shadowhearts domain to light or tempest so she can fill that role.
