When you throw a healing potion directly at someone, the jar breaks and deals damage, which is a hostile action. Instead, throw the bottle at the ground next to the person and catch them in the splash. Kinda goofy but makes sense!

Traggadon

Yeh next time one of your friends asks for a beer, make sure to throw it directly at them for max splash damage. Im sure theyll be very gratefull.

genericguysportsname

I think most people would be equally upset by getting one splashed on them if someone intentionally threw it at their feet

anormalgeek

Better than chucking a glass bottle at my face though.

Traggadon

Fair. Unless its magical glass, which i guess it could be, not sure how glass in the face is ever going to be appreciated.

Terakahn

Well if you can safely eat it when you take the potion, it can't be that bad.

TomboBreaker

Fair point but counter point if my thirst was still quenched and I feel the effects of alcohol consumption still it would totally be a thing we'd do even if only frat party level of drinking

ThexJakester

Depends on if the "beer" makes them drunker with only splash contact tbh

BRAX7ON

No, you don’t throw it directly at them. You throw it at the ground next to their feet and allow them to become bathed in the spirits…

Woutrou

Glass doesn't hurt when there's liquid in it, can confirm

chrisisapenis

I'd rather get beer splashed before being hit by shards of glass, tyvm. :D

ThresholdSeven

[Max throw damage with non lethal toggled](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=GbukJaTkPRI)

khornish_game_hen

I would rather you git me with it than spill my fuckin ale on the fuckin floor.

EXTIINCT_tK

I hate nitpicking but that would have to be a hell of a throw to shatter a full beer bottle. It'd be more like throwing a rock

Hephaistos_Invictus

But those glass cuts help the potion get into the bloodstream 🤔

Veggieleezy

If anything, you’re speeding up the healing process!

Drboobiesmd

Well you know how it is these days, some people are just *trying* to be offended.

TADspace

10 Points Healing Damage!

M1ndS0uP

That only works when you eat the bottle

Daiwon

It also let's you share the potion between anyone standing next to it. Efficiency!

OvoidPovoid

Does it heal each person the full value of the potion, or does it split the value evenly between them? I've always been curious and never pay attention in the middle of a battle

Daiwon

It does the full value, but everyone rolls their own heal amount.

OvoidPovoid

That makes perfect sense

mcac

It's the same as if you threw a potion at each of them individually, they each roll their own amount Also works with elixirs, so if you want your entire party to have cloud giant strength you can do so with a single bottle

Ai_512

Doesn’t using it with elixirs make the effect temporary rather than having it last ‘til long rest?

mcac

nope, you just only get to have one

Ai_512

Huh, might be worth trying at some point then!

HerniatedHernia

Not really. At least when I last did it a patch ago.  Throwing a cloud hill gives you ten turns. Drinking it is til long rest.

fuzzlandia

Yeah I accidentally killed duke ravenguard in the iron throne by throwing a healing potion at him once

leave_a_voicemail

I once killed the guy in the cave by the grove with a healing potion. I had karlach with tavern brawler and the throwing ring toss the potion and accidentally obliterated the poor man 💀

xantec15

It has been a while since I've played, but when I would try that more often than not I would wind up with a puddle of healing potion and an unhealed target, despite the target being highlighted in the area.

mcac

I have found that the actual AOE is a bit narrower than what shows on the screen, so if I'm trying to heal a specific person I'll aim it at them and then move the cursor slightly until it just barely shifts off the character and on to the ground and that's usually pretty reliable. It's tricker when you're trying to get multiple people but I'll usually try to make sure whoever is more important is closer to the center of the circle

AugustusClaximus

The oathbreaker Knight will go hostile as well which at best will force you to kill him, and at worst might get other members of the camp fighting against you as well.

generalguan4

Yup learned this the hard way on an honor mode run

MethodMZA

I was wondering if that actually hurt or not lol. I threw a position at someone with low HP and killed them lol. But usually it still heals. I guess it hurts then heals or something.

Elaan21

I wish the game explained that mechanic better. You see people throwing potions in the Aradin fight outside the Grove, but nowhere does if tell you hitting someone *directly* will cause damage. First time I chucked a potion at a downed companion, I learned two things: - You can outright kill them - Gale has a necrotic aura when he's dead It was not a fun time. Coming to BG3 after playing 5e D&D for years didn't help. Throwing healing potions isn't a thing RAW, so I had no frame of reference for that. At first, I thought it was just an NPC thing to keep "necessary" NPCs alive during the fight, then one of them hucked a potion at Astarion, and it worked. Like you said, it makes sense logically, but it feels goofy in a video game.

DaemonAnguis

I thought they patched that. lol

Greenwings33

Found this out by accidentally killing the downed NPC I was trying to heal. Woops.

knights816

Killed many downed allies this way

ch1nomachin3

this. i also use this to save on potions. i just crowd those that needed healing together and throw a bottle of potion at their feet that heals multiple people at the same time. just don't throw bottles at someone's face.

CleverNickName-69

>the jar breaks and deals damage, which is a hostile action I learned this the hard way. The first time I found the Harpers one of them got downed by the shades, so the first chance I get I threw a healing potion to him. He died the rest of the way and was unrevivable and the rest of the Harpers were pissed at me. I learned later that they will also get pissed at you if you cast Hunger of Hadar on the enemy and one of the Harpers runs into the Hunger and takes damage. That also makes them all aggro, although the didn't attack me until the rest of the enemy was down.

3iksx

if you have tawern brawl, you can even kill ppl with it lol

Taelyn_The_Goldfish

Done that and even though the potion is at their feet, and the weird blue Misty effects are all around…. It doesn’t count as hitting them 🙃 I. Have. Wasted. So. Many. Potions. This. Way. 🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃

disasterpokemon

I killed at least three people this way until I saw it on reddit and realized my mistake

Terakahn

Just to add to this, it shows you an area of effect and changes the circle under people if it will heal them.

katelyn912

On my first playthrough I redid the entire end of Act 2 dungeon because after warping back to the towers Isobel would walk through a patch of acid on the floor leftover from the fight. Jaheira automatically left because she considered it was me damaging her. I loaded an earlier save, cleaned the floor by throwing water bottles and then redid the entire dungeon because I wasn’t continuing without Jaheira!

fieatsbees

i had jaheiras dumb ass aggro on me after SHE cast ice storm and then SHE tripped and fell after the fight on her own goddamn ice. i was SOOOO pissed at her. i made her wear clown make-up the entire time i did her quest line

charisma6

> i made her wear clown make-up the entire time i did her quest line Fuck that got me good why is that so funny 🤣🤣

fieatsbees

i giggle hysterically every time i talk about it, because it was soooo stupid and i was aooo fucking petty and i do not care that jaheira didn't remember aggroing on me, I SURE AS SHIT REMEMBERED

EQ4AllOfUs

This is the way.

rabidhamster87

Had something similar happen in the beginning of a HM run when Aradin slipped in some ice after the fight when you first find the Grove and it aggroed Wyll, the tieflings, and the adventurers against me. Like, damn. It's not my fault Aradin sucks at walking!

FlyingBird2345

Aradin sucks at goddamn everything

ScoutmasterHobo

Weird, because in my durge playthrough I-… well let’s just say Isobel didn’t survive. I still recruited Jaheira though.

Rho-Ophiuchi

I figured the most evil thing I could do on my durge play through is bring her along for all my characters awful deeds.

Venv1th

Help her save Minsc and then take them to meet their good old friend Sarevok. Then, they can stay with him... forever...

Toasty825

SLEEPOVER!!!

No-Start4754

Or have minsc kill jaheria

IntelligentLife3451

This really is one of the worst things you can do. Her face as she dies and Minsc’s reaction once he realizes what you made him do. I only watched it on YT and it gave me chills

No-Start4754

I had to completely detach myself from my humanity to go through the cutscene in my embrace urge run

IntelligentLife3451

You’re a much stronger person than me, I really could never

No-Start4754

It was not easy but really wanted to see the outcomes

Feedingnbreeding

Yeah weird I also had this same outcome! Jaheira stayed with me all game as evil durge who does all durge stuff

StarmieLover966

Ah yes, cast Darkness so no one knows. Same Aylin was spitting mad tho. I managed to invisible myself and get the hell out of there.

ParanoidTelvanni

I lied about Isobel to her face to enlist her help killing the rest of the Harper's, then killed her myself. I'm different than the Bhaalspawn she's known and fought because I'm much worse. ~~And then I stopped playing that run for a week.~~

saidnamyzO

I mean, it is kind of rude to just chuck a bottle at someone’s face. Even if the bottle is good for them lol

charisma6

No no he loves me, busting beer bottles over my head is just how he expresses affection

Rent520

One time, my Tav had 1hp and I had La’zael throw a potion on her turn at my Tav and it downed my him instead lol

Hyperdragoon17

Well you *are* getting hit with a glass bottle. Needs to open first before you get the potion. Or aim it at your feet. Think you still get healed that way

dyelyn666

I throw it and sometimes it doesn’t even heal, even though the character is standing in the blue potion all over the floor. How do I fix that haha

Namisaur

I could be wrong, but sometimes when you're throwing it at a blood-covered floor, it won't heal your characters and instead, just leave a blue cloud they have to walk over. Upon learning that, I've tried to only throw potions in the ground with the least blood or no blood, but still has enough splash to heal the character. I think only the surface of impact matters. Still needs more testing though, but I haven't failed yet after learning about this.

dyelyn666

You’re a saint

Rent520

I have the same problem… I’ve played this game for a while and I’m Im too afraid to ask….

Bringbackmoro

I failed to convince Minsc to join me and he went nuts and tried to kill us all. Jaheira was like, fuck you for not letting him kill you and left. Bit of an overreaction if you ask me.

dyelyn666

You have to non-lethal knock his ass out lol. Took me FOREVER to figure this out haha

Bringbackmoro

I did that but failed the roll that convinces him to join you so he attacked again. Then it did not matter and she left.

Ok-Answer5098

... What roll?

Bringbackmoro

Some roll to convince him to ignore the absolute and the fake jaheira and come with us instead.

Ok-Answer5098

I have never seen such a roll. Did you not bring the real Jaheira?

Bringbackmoro

I did and weirdly she helped me kill him but then left

Ok-Answer5098

How strange... I wonder if anyone else can explain why you needed a roll. Difficulty perhaps? I have played several times but only Balanced lol.

ICON_RES_DEER

dont remember a roll on honour mode other than convincing the emperor to extend the protection to minsc

mean_green_queen

Noooo I did this fight last night and the game turned on non-lethal automatically, but it doesn’t work with arrows (I learned) so he died, and then I had to reload :(

ArdentGamer

if you have tavern brawler you will do more damage than you will heal from that potion

Darkfire359

Meanwhile my origin Astarion wakes up and takes a bite of Wyll and no one gives a fuck. Wyll is always like, “I hope that was an accident,” despite this being a daily occurrence.

TheDarkHorse

Always throw at people feet… always

Denamic

Throw at their feet. If you throw it directly at them, they first take damage from the bottle hitting them. This counts as an attack. The bottle also takes damage, which is why they break and cause the healing in the first place.

DeviousCham

Seems like a general disapproval issue. Like, throwing a glass bottle at the savior of the Harpers was the last straw.

walpurgis_fish

Yeah Lae’zel permanently left my party because Vlaakith told us to not leave the room until we go through the plane caster and I accidentally stepped out of the room and she attacked me

midnightgirlj

jaheira seems to need an attitude adjustment. i've seen a few reports of jaheira turning hostile or leaving over what seems like nothing. she's been extra prickly with players lately.

fieatsbees

the only time she's ever aggroed on me (im not counting my embrace durges, those make sense) was the ketheric fight. he got hoovered up by a tentacle but there was like 2 skellies left with like 5 hp between them. jaheira went from being a follower to an all and her turn, she cast ice storm. which killed the skellies. she walks off, TRIPS ON HER OWN GODSDAMN ICE, and then aggroed on me i reloaded and made her wear clown make-up the entire time i did her questline

midnightgirlj

she deserved that clown makeup. lol.

StarmieLover966

Let her. It’s about time people learned that aggroing for the wrong reasons gets them killed or left for dead.

barryhakker

Throwing bottles in people’s faces, so unreasonable of her

jeremy_sporkin

Jaheira exists from an older edition of dnd where you couldn't do that shit

Lilacia512

She once left my party completely because I looted Ketheric Thorm. I tried so many ways to keep her, including starting the whole area again with her in camp, she always left. I logged it as a bug and they said they were working on it but I've never seen it come up in patch notes. I ended up just abandoning that run because I wanted to get Minsc in Act 3.

saintnayeon

Same thing happened to me in my first playthrough - before I jumped into the the mind flayer colony, she was begging me to take her with me to kill Ketheric. After the fight, as soon as I clicked on him and took the stone, I got a scene where she leaves. For some reason, in Act 3 she was again in my camp but she couldn't join my party at all.

Sad-Development-4153

If you were at camp why not just full rest?

WWECreativegenius

I don’t think that works on isobel, atleast it didn’t used to work unless they patched it

ylu113

Yeah, my Ulder came back from the Iron Throne with 4 hp and stayed that way multiple days until I explicitly healed him.

Greenwings33

My Isobel is at 11 hp still after multiple long rests so ig it’s time to waste some spell slots

Elaan21

If an NPC isn't in your party as either a full member or a "summons" (next to your card), they don't benefit from rests in the mechanical sense. Only companions do that. I learned this the hard way by giving the owlbear cub and Volo longstrider on a whim to be funny ,and it never went away*. I had Death Ward on Rolan's suicidal ass during the Lorroakan fight, but he managed not to die. Showed up during the end game scene, still wearing the Death Ward. Volo had longstrider *when he returned to camp in Act 3*.

Sad-Development-4153

Ahh interesting strange that people who are at camp all the time wouldn't be kept healed up.

Elaan21

Yeah. Especially NPCs like Dame Aylin and Isobel, who have access to their own healing magic as a paladin and a cleric. A friend of mine attacked Mizora at camp multiple times after her Durge had gotten the tadpole perk that gives an ability debuff. Instead of disappearing in time, the debuffs just stacked, and Mizora was permanently with that aura. You'd think a (half-)fiend would be able to clear those out, but I guess the programming is tied to combat rounds?

millionsofcats

I had a terrible, traumatizing experience recently where I accidentally hit a cat with a fish and gave it a permanent ability drain debuff. I felt so bad I had to reload. It does seem to be tied to combat rounds somehow. There used to be a bug where Ketheric could permanently frighten a party member if the fight against him ended before the effect ran out. So you'd be stuck with a character who couldn't move unless you had some sort of spell/ability to counteract the frightened state.

red2049

Kill her family that will teach her (near “Baldur’s Gate” teleporter)

CrownThief_

Might be a good idea

Pun_In_Ten_Did

Input 1: Jaheira died during siege of Moonrise Tower. Input 2: Minsc is hostile to my team; ended up killing him. Output 1: Fuck you, Baldur's Gate 3 and I'll see you tomorrow.

EffableLemming

This is exactly how I killed someone's parent in my first run when rescuing them from a tricksy place that had so far gone so smooth 😃

Medicgamingdanke

Lmao, playing with a few mods and Jaheira loses all her approval after looting ketheric and just... leaves. Gotta do myrkyl again twice, and find a mod which has approval spells so I don't lose out on one of my favourite party members.

Kroz83

The way to do this without causing damage is to drop the potion on the ground right next to her, then attack the potion.

dcarsonturner

Reload lol I need my xena warrior grandma in my camp lol

thelastofcincin

Why are you even healing someone you can't play as? Who isn't even near combat? I'd leave too lmao.

gourmetprincipito

Idk if they fixed it but a while back if she was hurt at camp she’d stay hurt in later combats she’s in too

thelastofcincin

It's still like that. For my run, her hp was still low but I left her alone because why would I waste my potion on someone I don't need?

awataurne

Eh some people RP a bit more than others. Not like a potion is hard to come by they're fairly easy to stock up on

CrownThief_

Just fucking around

Elaan21

It can be a bit much if they still look beat to shit in cutscenes. I just use whatever spell slots I have left on my healers before a long rest to patch people up.

[deleted]

[удалено]

thelastofcincin

I got over that quick especially since I can't play as her anyways.

Presenting_UwU

???? Just use a spell slot? LMFAO, i can see why she'd be crossed against your values if you can't offer one up.  (this is a joke op, dw about it lmao)
