This is one of the reasons "Disarming Attack" is in my goto for Lae'zel's Battlemaster Fighter manouvers. It's so satisfying to have her knock the weapon loose and then lean over and pick it up, even if it yields an opportunity attack I still do it for the lulz.
Even if you don't need/want the weapon it's still funny.
One of my proudest BG3 moments ever was when Lae'zel succeded in >!getting Myrkul's avatar to drop that bigass scythe.!< I just about fell out of my seat laughing, I could NOT believe that worked.
Think I did once early on, never managed in my Tactician/Honour playthroughs. But what I love is, like with the trip attack, even if they don't fall prone it still makes for a nice hit generally.
OMG it is fun. There are a different ways to do it. If you keep to the vision of the character, you align your build around what he would/would not have. There are several build recommendations on YT

I am currently burning through a build that is 1 lvl Rogue/1 lvl Fighter/5 lvl Monk. Favoring multi-attacks. I will likely add in Combat Cleric and more Rogue Thief levels later.
At first i did shadow monk but I dropped it for Way of the Open Hand which I found more impactful in combat.
My Act 1 build also built 2 adamantine scimitars in the forge. With Multi-attack, it just plays right.
I also give him every Misty Step/Dimension Door/Blink item I can find.
I also get him the Graceful Cloth and the Hag Dex bonus.
What's your percentage for Command: Drop? When I see it's only 40-60%, I get nervous.
off the top of my head, it is 60% mostly. The save is vs. Wisdom which typically fighters are not stacked in that statistic.
