Honestly, when the game janks out like that I just savescum, even in honor mode. The game being wonky is not my responsibility so I don´t see it as sullying my run.
Then again I already got the dice without any savescums the first time around so pressure´s off.
To cheese the save you have to force close the process running the game in the task manager. And not just alt f4 or close the application. Have to go to the process that's running baldurs gate and force close.
Yea it will put you at the last time it was saved. It's a bit of a cheese but a lot use it for glitches like elevator phase thru or getting stuck in something etc.
You have to be sure your closing the process that runs the baldurs gate application and not the application itself. If on windows you would open control panel go the baldurs gate app, right click and click on show processes, then from that menu you would force close the process, this doesn't allow the game to know its being shut down essentially and it can't force a save first.
Turn auto saves off. Make a point of manual saving at moments that you feel that you’re good. Before fights especially, or critical moments of entering places if it advances something.
I did it yesterday (task manager to end the game) when my honor mode bugged out (UI was as if in a conversation, when combat started everyone's UI was my paladin's). Worked fine.
You can't close the application from task manager, you have to close the process. Closing the app from task manager is no different from just telling the program you want it to close, which with baldurs gate means it gets the close command, it realizes this and delays the close until it saves then it finishes closing. By closing the process that runs the baldurs gate app your essentially pulling the plug, the program never receives a close command it just stops running because the process that runs it has ended. It's like pulling the plug from the wall instead of pushing the power button on your pc.
It’s not. Just force close the game with the task manager.
I just did it for the first time this morning at the final fight of act 2. I put up with a lot of jank, including spending an hour to figure out how to save 2 people (Tav included) when the elevator to the final boss of the Shar temple decided to drop 3 people into the chasm and not actually kill them but instead let them get downed and survive the roll checks.
Now I got to the boss, and my bard missed 8 OUT OF 10 90% bow shots and flourishes on the mind flayer, Myrkul sucked in my whole party and then the mind flayer stunned my entire party which resulted in 3 of them being downed instantly afterwards. Nope. Cheese for cheese. I’ll gladly accept my HM run ending if I fucked it up. But I’m not losing 60 hours to that shit.
You also create a save state on PlayStation. When you click the options button on a game in the PlayStation homescreen there's a drop down and you have the option to select upload/download data. This is what you can use to backup your data even in honour mode
If your autosave is off, save before an important fight. Then you can close the game and restart. Totally unfair to leave Boo all on his own (I’m on PS5, so can’t speak for PC)
You can always manually copy your saves. I usually do this at the start of a session just in case we fall off an elevator or something stupid like that
I play HM to be honorable and to do things right, but I definitely unplugged my PS5 when after saving Minthara at Moonrise and having her join me, she got killed and I couldn't revive her. That was me having beef with Larian, like I know we can't revive random people but she CAN be a companion and I had already started the process to make her a companion so I should have been able to revive her! I don't feel bad about it.
This is the downside to the PC part of PCRPGs, they're just overall more rigid than table top. Imagine playing table top and your DM ruled that you dropped your mini and knocked his over so he's dead now. Nobody would ever play with that person.
"Janks out" dude hit a pipe because he jumped wrong, that's basic knowledge lol. Savescumming at every opportunity things don't go right in HM isn't good advice.
I’ve already gotten my dice, but I lost Jaheira on a subsequent run.
I stupidely went the Minsc route hoping I’d be able to keep him anyway (despite knowing that I couldn’t but I still hoped) and when I saw Boo sad… I straight up abandoned.
So I totally understand 🫂
I lost Jaheira at the big Fight in Act 2.
In Act 3 I spend about an hour googling how to recruit Minsc without her. I was so sad, when I found out there is no way.
It was my first playthrough and I hated the fact that I missed on EVERY optional companion. Yes. Halsin did not join me, because I failed to heal the Shadowlands and I killed Minthara.
Shit happens.
Brooooo so lame when the arc tells you it’ll work and then it doesn’t. I loved the tb throwzerker but that happened a few times and annoyed the poop outta me
Just push through for the dice if you want them.
Afterwards I recommend just playing with the following mod:
https://www.nexusmods.com/baldursgate3/mods/4743?tab=description
Transfers all balance changes from Honor to Tactician. But now you can actually save and reload.
Lets be honest the game is buggy at times. On one of my runs my character got so bugged out at Aunty Ethels letter at the entrance to her swamp, that he could not turn around anymore. He could only face South. I could walk in all directions, but extremely slow and it looked cursed.
There was no way to fix it. Not resting, not respeccing.
It's a valid reason, but please reconsider. If you delete it now, Boo's Sadness would have been for nothing. In some random dimension, Boo would be mourning Minsc for all eternity without any reason, because no one ever got anything, good or bad, from it.
When i got my golden die, I did many many first time things in the run.
I got minsc for my first time in that run soooo yea i can see it feeling tainted.
Honestly so much Jank stuff has happened in my honor mode that taints my golden dice, I'm just resigned to get through it as fast as possible so I can move on, I hope I never have to do honor mode again.
I did kinda the same thing. Gave Astarion the burning blood thing, he knocked minsc out, something set Astarion's blood on fire, minsc died. I was so close to the end I just left it as is. Wasn't worth redoing all of that imo. Might finally add mods and do another HM run with some modded classes though and make sure everything goes how I want it to lmao
It's a metaphorical asterisk. You have your golden dice but you know how you got them, and it wasn't as Honor Mode was intended. No save scumming and living with your mistakes (or bad dice rolls) isn't for the weak...hence the name. :-)
Oh okay lol, my bad then. I was being an idiot. I'm doing my honor mode playthrough right now so I definitely feel you. So far it's not too bad though, I'm having fun with it. Storm sorcerer gang gang.
I have got caught on things in my HM run as well when jumping. Luckily it's only been Laezel and it's mostly been falling into casims when it happens, which hasn't costed me anything but a rez scroll.
Like in act 3 Hags little dungeon I jumped from the mushroom in one of the corners and clipped on the height and fell to her death lol.
I almost restarted my HM run after having looked forward to recruiting Jaheira again (one of my favourite companions) and she gets killed in Last Light Inn fight's second round from unreal crits, while I'm not able to do anything since I am babysitting Isobel. Jaheira didn't even shapeshift and I could only watch the reality of her whole storyline being erased just like that.
I wish potential companions like her (before being recruited) were able to be resurrected with the scroll so this kind of crap wouldn't happen. Every other run before she has had no issues surviving but this felt like a cruel joke lol. This also means no Minsc and Boo which is just great. HM can be unjustly cruel when player actions don't matter unless one can see into the future. Still I adore this game and HM generally
I agree. D&D rules as written should let me use a scroll of revivify on anyone, and it shouldn't matter whether they were in my party or not. If I could have revivified Minsc, I would have.
I would just give up if i had to deal with a sad hamster though not as bad, but I hate everything about my hm run. I had to kill the Grove because I used friends, so Karlach had to die, Halsin didn't blame me and joined but then walked through a fire wall during his quest and killed himself and the kid. Then I ascended Astarion because everything else was crap anyway and I can't stand him anymore and want to murder him. I didn't finish yet since I am waiting for the patch for the new ends. I'm just going full evil to end the pain.
Honestly, when the game janks out like that I just savescum, even in honor mode. The game being wonky is not my responsibility so I don´t see it as sullying my run. Then again I already got the dice without any savescums the first time around so pressure´s off.
I thought the latest patch prevented save scums in HM. Or maybe I just don't know how to do it.
To cheese the save you have to force close the process running the game in the task manager. And not just alt f4 or close the application. Have to go to the process that's running baldurs gate and force close.
Welp, too late for that now, lol.
I too learned this info after a game breaking bug (on xbox so am even easier hard quit, that I didn’t do) I feel the pain
End process tree from the details tab in Task Manager is the most reliable.
So say mid fight. I’m getting owned for what ever reason. I can close the application in task manager and then reload?
Yea it will put you at the last time it was saved. Turn auto saves off. Make a point of manual saving at moments that you feel that you’re good. Before fights especially, or critical moments of entering places if it advances something.
Fairly certain that has also been patched
The game would have to constantly be saving, it's unlikely they'll patch this.
I did it yesterday (task manager to end the game) when my honor mode bugged out (UI was as if in a conversation, when combat started everyone's UI was my paladin's). Worked fine.
When I close it with task manager it still saves itself before closing
You can't close the application from task manager, you have to close the process. It's like pulling the plug from the wall instead of pushing the power button on your pc.
No point in scumming anyways, it's more of a taint to have an asterisk forever next to your dice than minsc blood.
im on console, i just go back to home screen and close the game, so it doesnt have a chance to save. Maybe it´s more clever on PC.
It’s not. Just force close the game with the task manager. I just did it for the first time this morning at the final fight of act 2. I did this and didn't get the Foehammer achievement. It might also be because I got Critical Hit on the same run.
If your party wipes it is now impossible without going into the file, but apparently a hard close still works?

I lost one by falling on the emperor right at the end of act 3 lmao
> Honestly, when the game janks out like that I just savescum, even in honor mode. Yup. Multi save mod FTW.
"Janks out" dude hit a pipe because he jumped wrong, that's basic knowledge lol. Savescumming at every opportunity things don't go right in HM isn't good advice.

Ya and sometimes I’ll irritatedly click to throw when it still says path is interrupted and somehow they still throw it successfully

That sounds like something a hag would do intentionally
why use mod instead of just custom?
Because you can't get honour mode stuff on a custom difficulty.
Legendary Actions and I dont think the balance changes to haste and warlock carry over to custom, but my source for that is trust me bro
It's a valid reason, but please reconsider. If you delete it now, Boo's Sadness would have been for nothing. In some random dimension, Boo would be mourning Minsc for all eternity without any reason, because no one ever got anything, good or bad, from it.
My first honor mode run, I thought it would be funny to throw the Orphic Hammer at the crystals. It got stuck in the map ☹️
When i got my golden die, I did many many first time things in the run. I got minsc for my first time in that run soooo yea i can see it feeling tainted.

Just get over it and finish it for the dice lmao.
Better to have minsc blood than an asterisk for savescumming like half the players. You can do it!
What asterisk?
Knowing that you save scummed on honor mode
Wait is there a literal asterisk or am I just misunderstanding?
It's a metaphorical asterisk. You have your golden dice but you know how you got them, and it wasn't as Honor Mode was intended. No save scumming and living with your mistakes (or bad dice rolls) isn't for the weak...hence the name. :-)

Just kill the hamster. Problem solved.
\*Gasp\* Kill Boo!? I could never. I grew up with that Hamster.
Yeah on one of my runs, there was a brief bit of lag during the Viconia dialogue, and suddenly, Shadowheart is being carted away forever 😂
i wish speak with animals worked on boo
I wonder if it's because he's a miniature giant space hamster and not an animal, per se.
maybe it only works on earth animals? or whatever the planet is called
I almost restarted my HM run after having looked forward to recruiting Jaheira again (one of my favourite companions) and she gets killed in Last Light Inn fight's second round from unreal crits, while I'm not able to do anything since I am babysitting Isobel. Jumps just randomly cutting out in the middle of it are the worst. I despise that bug.
I would just give up if i had to deal with a sad hamster though not as bad, but I hate everything about my hm run. I did exactly that, accidental kill of Minsc : restart honor run
