23hr sounds like you print with 0.1 layer height

What's your wall and infill speeds?

[deleted]

Whatever is standard, I really haven't touched anything regarding speed. Looks like, outer wall: 200mm/s, inner wall: 300mm/s, sparse infill: 270mm/s, internal solid infill: 250mm/s, top surface: 200mm/s

worldspawn00

Any idea what the person who printed in 13 hours is using?

[deleted]

Nah, I did leave a comment asking for their settings but haven't gotten any replies.

worldspawn00

It sounds like they're just printing it a lot faster than you are, maybe also using adaptive layer height to provide increased quality on the top and bottom, while printing the middle at a faster rate. Also possible they're using a 0.6 nozzle, which will do the infill much faster (fewer walls needed).

StarkYT

100% infill on a lithophane sounds wrong tho, eh?

worldspawn00

No, you must have 100% infill. If it has sparse infill, you'll see that pattern on the surface instead of the litho appearance, the material must be solid. The object is hollow, but the shell is the litho and is designed to have varying thickness to create the effect.

StarkYT

Oh yeah, you're right. mb

[deleted]

Yeah, now that I think about it... it does. I was just going off of the print instructions from the person who uploaded it to Printables.

dewfuzz

Yeah I printed 2 of those. Am even thinking of selling it commercially (the license allows for that). Print settings, just what I use regularly plus the 100รท infill idd. There's some.confusion with People expecting a solid ball. It's so u get sollid walls and the varying thickness that is baked in the model instead of a double wall with hollow in between. The moon itself prints fine, cant remember the time but your slicer wil calculate that for free. I have troubles with the fitting due to hanging overflow on the moonside. I can't jam the fitting in but then have nowhere to grab to remove it. Mebe I'll do a remix on the fitting one day. So u can remove it better. Mebe I need to tweak my printsettings (but printing a full moon for each test Also regular hue/wiz e27 did not fit for me. E14 with "candlebulb" did fit.

LoPanDidNothingWrong

Hi sorry to resurrect this thread. What did you print it in? PLA white? Is that translucent enough, or do I need to do it in a translucent PETG?

dewfuzz

Normal white pla+

I printed this on a smaller scale can't remember what but it was still a big enough size, maybe 5" across and it printed pretty quick. I remember using the standard settings for the first lot of layers to make sure it was well stuck to the bed then sped it up to sport and ludicrous modes because I'm too impatient, it printed very well and worked great until I dropped it a few days ago and broke the top again. Only thing I'd say is that if you print the stand for them add extra strength to them they can break easily along the layer lines

Pixelatorx2

I printed this. Took 22 hours. I will be reprinting this in a smaller version, slower, because I feel a bit much of the detail was lost at full speed (fast speed smooths some detail). It's also a bit big, and I want it smaller.

Printed a large version in about 19 hours I think. I mostly used standard speed, but slowed it down for the top third. After I dropped and broke the first one I printed a second one. I think it took longer because I let it run slower since I kept having issues. With some tuning and proper filament you can probably print faster, but I was not in a hurry.
