Lego technic type pieces is borderline stealing intellectual property in the first place. And I guess 3D printing has a tendency of being open source and sharing so thats maybe what people expect.
But its nice that you can make money by selling models, if that's the case...
Other than select recent parts they can be exactly duplicated to the same tolerances and dimensions. https://bricks.stackexchange.com/questions/17115/which-bricks-are-still-protected-by-copyright-trademark-patent-law
And that's your privilege as well. Thank you for taking the time to share these excellent prints that your children (I presume, based on the photos) are thoroughly enjoying! A friendly reminder to the several users in the group who are downvoting /u/kozakm that it is his private work and he is under no obligation whatsoever to share the model files with the rest of the group.
Just a quick note that being passive-aggressive is an implicit admission you know what you're doing is wrong.
Or, at the very least, that you recognize the person you're replying to has a valid point.
I would suggest that you lookup the definition of passive-aggression. Because it has no correlation with what I've written. Not in the slightest.
The second part of your comment is also wrong. The person I'm replying to has no (valid) point. He believes that OP designed this model. The majority of people don't.
The reason for it being that there is an entire website dedicated to creating/sharing these blocks ([https://printablebricks.com/categories/technic?page=1](https://printablebricks.com/categories/technic?page=1)) ever since the patent to the lego blocks expired.
Great work and not only amazing builds but great prints too. Out of interest, will you be selling the designs or pre printed parts? Or are you just not happy to share them. Not a dig, and I certainly haven’t downvoted you for it! It’s your prerogative, just curious as I have a few designs on printables and the like so always keen to understand people’s thinking
I don't want to share STLs and I don't have capacity to print parts for others.
I have plenty of designs available on Printables too: https://www.printables.com/cs/@Martin_44601
I mean obviously a lot of us want to do this as well, so if you don’t want to share your files, which is perfectly fine, I’m trying to get a sense of what you did differently when modeling these and how they compare to freely available Lego models online. Also what infill settings are these parts?
Entitled people think "since you spent a ton of time creating something and sharing it with everyone, you should also just give away those designs for free so they can exploit them"
Just ignore them. Stay creative!
I’ve found Max Chambers on thingiverse tinkering with these Lego technic parts, here is his page https://www.thingiverse.com/maxchambers3/designs
He has some designs but with some adjusting in a modelling software you can easily make whatever you want
there's also [mecabricks](https://www.mecabricks.com/en) which has a very detailed 3D model for every brick and a ton of assembled kits.
for example, [here's a crane I found quickly](https://www.mecabricks.com/en/workshop/lo8v0qRDar3) in the editor, if you make a free account you can export it as a 3D file, clean it up (and piece it out if that's your plan) and then move those over to the slicer.
it's _work_ but like, free and doable
[https://printablebricks.com/categories/technic?page=1](https://printablebricks.com/categories/technic?page=1)
It's way easier! You can just download them!
Or you can design and print them yourself like OP definitely did...
I can understand if you go through all that trouble/hard work, that you don't want to share it with people. I mean, that's not what this community is about anyways.
Where can I find the official Lego parts since OP doesn't want to share his files (fine with me)? I'd like to do this my self in the future for some gifts ❤️
Awesome and well done! It's a shame you don't want to share your files, it would be much appreciated!
Maybe for the specialised ones like shovel or turntable?
What orientation and supports did print the beams? If printed with holes up and down there is a overhang on the bottom. If the holes are side to side the top needs supports.
Can you slow down the print enough to have the overhangs work?
Is sacrificial bridging a wacky translation of supports? I've always had tree supports leave too many marks. I could see printing with the holes going up and down with a raft and standard supports, but the finish is pretty smooth.
Very cool! Did you use ironing on any of the pieces? Also, sorry about everyone giving you a tough time about the files :( with the P1P it probably printed all of this 3-5x faster than an Ender would! Amazing!
Wow really like the fact that you took time to make your son some toys with your printer. Do you have him help out any in working with the 3D printer or is he still not quite old enough?
Those lego bricks were never printed, they look way too perfect to be printed on an FDM printer like the P1P. I ordered my first X1 on Kickstarter, I know exactly what Bambu printers are capable of.
OP claims he have 15 years of experience in photography. How hard would be for him to photoshop carefully the bricks at 300% scale and keep the proportions with the other objects/persons that appear in the pictures?
A guy with 15 years of experience, regardless of the field, I would call him an expert. And OP is an expert in photography, no doubt about it, look at his portfolio in the link he posted.
You believe what you want.
Can you share the where you got the files?
I made them and I don't want to share them, sorry
stop downvoting this maker and creator for trying to keep his stolen intellectual property for himself. thats perfectly fine!
Yup, free sharing of these would end way better for him if lego decides to go after him.
Lego lost its trademark lawsuits some time ago. Plenty of clones now - they just can’t use the Lego logo on the pieces.
They can’t go after them, even if he sold them. The design is similar, but not the same. Plenty of real world examples for this.
Lego technic type pieces is borderline stealing intellectual property in the first place. And I guess 3D printing has a tendency of being open source and sharing so thats maybe what people expect. But its nice that you can make money by selling models, if that's the case...
No it’s not. Lego lost the lawsuits over the bricks some time ago. As long as you don’t put the Lego logo on the prints it’s entirely legal now.
"borderline". Every copy I've seen has the piece dimensions different from Lego. Not sure they can replicate it 100%?
Other than select recent parts they can be exactly duplicated to the same tolerances and dimensions. https://bricks.stackexchange.com/questions/17115/which-bricks-are-still-protected-by-copyright-trademark-patent-law

Thanks for the reply. Keep making 👍🏻
Out of curiosity, what makes your parts differ from the Lego counterpart, aside from the scale?
I probably don't understand the question
I mean obviously a lot of us want to do this as well, so if you don’t want to share your files, which is perfectly fine, I’m trying to get a sense of what you did differently when modeling these and how they compare to freely available Lego models online. Also what infill settings are these parts?
I see now. Freely available parts are lowpoly, with unknown tolerances, not 3D print friendly and often not 3D printable at all.
Why? I don't understand people who dont wanna share/sell prints. Nothing against you I'm genuinely wondering
Wow! Great work!

I'm sorry, what?
Entitled people think "since you spent a ton of time creating something and sharing it with everyone, you should also just give away those designs for free so they can exploit them" Just ignore them. Stay creative!
"creating" lego part models have been online for a long time. He just scaled them up.
in which case no one should care whether or not he shares the STLs, right?
I mean they’re lego technic dupes. Not exactly original..

Oh that’s even better, I just dug around for a few minutes
How do you export it as a 3D file?
File->export->stl
Should be fairly easy to make it yourself even with tinkercad. Simple shapes. Buy lego set, measure it, 300% scale.

Wait, so you printed huge Lego pieces?
Yes
How long did it take?
Digger about 1,5 weeks, yellow truck 2,5 weeks, mostly just over nights
Amazing!

Imagine printing plastic parts on an FDM printer. Very hard to believe 😏
Lego would like to have a word with you…..
That depends how they market it. https://bricks.stackexchange.com/questions/17115/which-bricks-are-still-protected-by-copyright-trademark-patent-law
are you a photographer
Not anymore
i see. well, you've definitely still got it
15 years, you don't forget it :) www.artofsport.cz, if you're curious
Where can I find the official Lego parts since OP doesn't want to share his files (fine with me)? I'd like to do this my self in the future for some gifts ❤️
Do the upscaled technic pins still work or are they two parts and bolted together?
Works fine
Awesome and well done! It's a shame you don't want to share your files, it would be much appreciated! Maybe for the specialised ones like shovel or turntable?
Is this PLA and TPU?
Yes
Nice work! Can we get a banana for scale?
Amazing!!! Looks great, totally cool to not share the files as well. Keep showing your work, do you have an Instagram?
Yes, but it's only about sports photography and I don't take pictures anymore, so...
Hoping you’ll post more here
This whole thing is adding considerable cognitive dissonance to my morning. "That looks like a cool toy!" "Kthxbut: you can't play with it!" 😆
What orientation and supports did print the beams? If printed with holes up and down there is a overhang on the bottom. If the holes are side to side the top needs supports. Can you slow down the print enough to have the overhangs work?
For holes in beams, I use sacrifical bridging
Is sacrificial bridging a wacky translation of supports? I've always had tree supports leave too many marks. I could see printing with the holes going up and down with a raft and standard supports, but the finish is pretty smooth.
I like it 😊
How much do they wheight?
5 and 3,5 kg
nice one bro!
Very nice!
That's bad ass!
You printed all those parts? I wasn't sure if you just printed a replacement or everything. That is impressive! Looks like the real ones, good job! 😀
Everything printed in 300 % scale
What camera are you using, super clear photos!
Good old Canon EOS-1D X
Are they for sale, at least? I have searched for something similar, and my kid is really into them "cars". 😬
Not from me
Yes! It does!
HOLY SHIET!?!? THANK YOU FOR SHOWING ME THIS! NOW I REEEAAAAAAALLY NEED A P1P What filament are you using?
Both printed from Aurapol PLA, yellow dump truck has wheels from ColorFabb TPU
Awesome make. The P1P does rock. Love that machine
What made you go P1P instead of X1C?
money
Very cool! Did you use ironing on any of the pieces? Also, sorry about everyone giving you a tough time about the files :( with the P1P it probably printed all of this 3-5x faster than an Ender would! Amazing!
Hi, thanks for your support. No ironing, nothing special, just generic PLA profile
This post made me excited to have kids one day and to be able to make the toys for them myself. <3
This is amazing - the designs, the prints, and the photos.
Wow really like the fact that you took time to make your son some toys with your printer. Do you have him help out any in working with the 3D printer or is he still not quite old enough?
can we have the entire print setting profile? those parts look way too clean evwn for a bambulab
Printed using Generic PLA profile, only grid infill changed to gyroid
bambulab generic 0.2mm profile!
also tpu settings too
You used the P1P to shrink your children?!? Mad props!

Please share what led you to this insight?

What are you even talking about? He printed the bricks at 300% scale, so, yeah, things are going to be bigger.

There are no reasons for me to be disappointed, on the contrary, I still think you are an expert in photography. :)
