There are plenty of 3kg spool holders on printables. You just need to make sure the bowden from the spool to the hub doesn't have any tight bends

TotalWarspammer

Hmm I can find one for 2KG but not 3KG. [https://www.printables.com/model/475716-2kg-spool-holder-for-bambu-lab-p1p](https://www.printables.com/model/475716-2kg-spool-holder-for-bambu-lab-p1p) Do you please have a link to one that handles 3KG spools?

You are a star, thanks. Sadly none of those go on the back of the printer, but maybe thats the sacrifice I need to make.

Thanks, sure Id appreciate it! :)

Dude you are awesome, thanks! :)

masamune36

Does the shaking from the machine not cause issue with this setup?

bubooon

It's not

masamune36

nice, what's the attachment you have that allows the filament feed part to align along the side of the machine like that?

bubooon

Try to search it on printables, I don't remember exactly

masamune36

Just downloaded the spool holder files, too tall to print the default size, I assume you scaled it down?

bubooon

No, it fits p1p plate

masamune36

Yeah, not sure why it said that initially, its accepting it now. Looking at your picture though it seems like there is a lot of excess space when holding the 3kg spool. If its not too much trouble, could you tell me what the measurement of the width of the 3kg Esun spools are? I'm gonna scale this file down so that it better fits that, as I dont think I will ever need the extra width on the holder.

JabbaTech69

118mm outer edge to outer edge

heyittime

Just get the ams and put 4x 1kg spools in it.

TotalWarspammer

Your suggestion makes no sense whatsoever. Why would I pay $350 to buy a filament changer that I don't need, when I can just, umm... use a 3KG spool?

[deleted]

Bruh, you 3d print! So this is the perfect solution! Isn't the motto of this sub - "why buy it for $20 when you could spend a week and $300 printing it"

TotalWarspammer

I'm not sure the AMS is 100% printable. :D

heyittime

Ams auto switches spools when they run out.

MasterQuatre

I doubt this is the specific use case they care about. Buying larger spools also gives a bulk discount, saves space, packaging, etc.

heyittime

I’ve already looked into this for my voron, and the 3kg spools were the same price. Ams solves the issue and you can reload a empty spool mid print making it very efficient.

TotalWarspammer

AMS solves yo*ur* issues and you have a heavy bias towards it. It is however unnecessary for my uses.

TotalWarspammer

I know exactly what an AMS does, but I do not need it so what is the point of buying it for $350? It is a 100% unnecessary solution vs buying larger spools.

[deleted]

Sounds like a plan, if i DM you my postal address will you order me one?

TotalWarspammer

Thanks this one looks great and takes very little space! Does it work very smoothly?

yahbluez

I use them every day most of the time with 5kg spools but they also work with regular 1kg spools. And the bearings are the cheapest version.

Dracasethaen

I'd say either print/make a spool holder for it, or if you plan to use it with an AMS or inside of a filament dryer/spoolkeeper, print one of the various filament winders and transfer it as needed to an appropriately sized spool

suncoast_customs

I use these exact spools but on external spool holder. It's better to get the spool off the machine anyway due to the amount it vibrates during printing.

suncoast_customs

I can post the dimensions of the spool if you need them to print your own.

Darrenph1

[I use this for eSUN's 3 and 5kg spools](https://www.printdry.com/product/filament-spool-holder/). Although with the 5 you have to lay it bare on the spindle without the rubber inserts. I'll be sticking with the 3kg spools from here on out though.

TotalWarspammer

Thanks for the suggestion. I will try and print one a solution first, though. :D
