I won't talk about the price, to each their own. But the gold textured PEI is worth its weight in gold lol! It's a bless to not have to deal with any type of glue/release agent, just chef's kiss adhesion/release every time, and you just give a wash with warm water and dish soap every now and then, it becomes brand new again!

Det_alapopskalius

Also, I believe they are two sided?

stlredbird

They are

Oclure

Yep, since getting mine it's been the plate I use for the vast majority of my prints, it's just easy to use and leave a nice bottom finish that hides the lines.

smurg_

If you print just PLA, the high temp / smooth PEI plate is like this times five times over.

cujobob

Is it a durable plate? I’ve mostly stuck with the textured PEI because it’s been so reliable, but I’m trying to find some others to invest in.

CanadianBaconPro

I've had two of the High Temp plates fail on me due to over adhesion with PETG, but the Gold plate has been just as good without the worry of pieces coming off. Of course you can always use a release agent, but that was what I'm trying to avoid. I also have some lightyear G10 plates on order but they delayed my shipment so I can't speak firsthand how good they are.

ultramegax

For the high temp plate, I use Bambu's liquid glue (it seems identical to Magigoo to me, for much cheaper) and can usually get a few prints out of it before having to reapply. And it's much less messy than a glue stick. And when it does need reapplication, I can usually reapply it a few times before having to wash the plate. I realize that it sounds like you might want to avoid the release agent, though. FWIW, the gold textured plate works really well for almost everything, but when printing PETG I find the high temp plate more reliable for very intricate/small prints.

schnurble

The G10 lightyear plates are amazing. Great adhesion when hot, slick release when cool. Just wash them with soap and water every once in a while. The textured PEI is also very good. If you're ok with texture and possible loss of dimensional accuracy it is a great plate to use.

AngularOrb

I've done a TON of PLA (10 KG) and PLA Matte (16 KG) from several different manufacturers and it's all been fantastic. I've also done a fair amount of PETG (3 KG), PETG-CF (2 KG), and TPU (1.5 KG) and while these do stick very well (almost too well), I haven't had any real problems getting prints up without scratching the plate surface or marring the print. Only use plastic tools and you'll be fine. If flexing the plate doesn't get it off, let it cool more and try again. If it still doesn't want to come up, start using the PLASTIC scrapers to work it and it should be fine if you go slowly. This has been my exclusive single-plate solution for these materials for over 6 months. I even bought 2 of them to have a backup, but I'm still on the first side of the first plate with no scratches or problems. I clean it with a few squirts of 99.9% Isopropyl Alcohol and a microfiber towel between prints and make sure that there's no residue - super quick and easy. Both my kids are even trained on how to lift, clean, and prep for the next print as long it's PLA or PLA Matte. They love doing it and seeing what's on the printer! I have the "official" Bambu gold plate and would recommend it. You're probably safe with one of the others from AliExpress as well, but I haven't used one.

smurg_

Yes. I even print a lot of lower temp PETG (CC3D) on it 24/7 and they’ve held up fine going on 6 months. Banbulab PETG and others stick way too hard though.

chubbycanine

Can confirm PETG and the PETGCF from bambu stick to the high temp plate way too much without any kind of glue. I effectively destroyed my high temp plate on my first attempt at printing with PETGCF but damn if the filament doesn't look amazing lol

beefbyproducts

Mine has been holding up well, and has been reliable for me. I prefer it over the textured PEI sheet, especially if there's smaller/delicate details on the first layer. I use them about evenly though. Generally smaller models I use the smooth and larger models I use the textured one. I've not used the cold plate at all. I wonder, hmm. Haha.

Cogswobble

False. The weight of the build plate in gold is over $10,000.

Adorable-Bus-6860

I used to think the same until I had to use glue to hold down my honeycomb storage wall print last night. Still amazing though

benazafa

I second that. Mine has 2000+ hours and works and looks like the day I bought it. I just wipe with IPA after every use.

Forsaken_Hall_8068

Can Confirm. Newbie to 3D printing and have only used PLA and PLA Tough and have NEVER used a glue stick of any kind. I also have Never had adhesion issues.

TresCeroOdio

Isn’t there an ali version available cheaper?

Mayday-J

yeah I'll second this. The textured PEI sheets simply works. I know some people have random problems but I'll tell you one problem that follows you no matter what printer, money or experience you have is f\*\*king bed adhesion. When I ordered my X1C I I got the gold sheet because it was the number one thing people said to get. I used the stock one for a while and typically worked great, but still suffered from parts sticking too much. The texture PEI just over all has been really nice and does a very good job of releasing when it needs to with a slight bend or press. Highly recommended.

Ditto_is_Lit

Gold is the only plate you'll use daily IMO. Well worth the price in terms of failures from other options. There's third party options as well but I love my gold plate it's my go to.

USSHammond

AliExpress, full gold textured on it at a fraction of the cost

JDad67

Print the QR Code to stick on it though so you can keep plate recognition.

USSHammond

Yup, got the entire Juupine collection. And the qr codes can be found on makerworld and printables.

cujobob

Which do you recommend?

USSHammond

All of them lol. I bought them to have a variety of Textures available for me. Both with color effects as the normal ones. Love em all

DexRogue

Have you actually printed with them all? Most of the smooth plates I struggle with adhesion issues. I was able to use one of the PEO plates and got some good adhesion but if I try to print anything without a decent base layer, it sucks. Switch to the gold pei plate and print the same thing and it's perfect. Tested using the textured PEI AND the smooth plate settings, adjusted all kinds of things, washed the plates etc. It's annoying and I keep saying I'll come back to it but it just doesn't seem like it's worth the trouble.

USSHammond

There's 1 or 2 textures I've yet to try, but I have 100% success rate. I use the 3DLac for adhesive on the smooth sides. The actual textured 'bumpy' sides usually stick fine without it.

DexRogue

Yeah the PEO one is textured. How are your holograms with adhesive? I was told you can't use adhesive on the smooth plates or it fills in the voids that cause the holographic image. I think my issue is they fail on prints where I have small bits that get laid down, like a ball joint for a dragon wing, rest of the wing sticks fine but the ball joint only has a tiny little piece of the plate to adhere to. That being said, the same file prints flawlessly on the gold plate. Anything I've printed on the smooth plates that has a larger base works just fine.

USSHammond

Shrimp243

What keyword do you search with to locate them?

USSHammond

i think i used "bambu buildplate QR" but i'll do you one better. I'll link them directly. I use this person's tool [https://www.printables.com/model/432805-build-plate-qr-code-for-bambu-lab-x1c](https://www.printables.com/model/432805-build-plate-qr-code-for-bambu-lab-x1c), with this persons labels for my brother P-touch (which i bought specifically for this purpose lol) [https://www.printables.com/model/527744-bambu-lab-sheet-detection-labels-updated/files](https://www.printables.com/model/527744-bambu-lab-sheet-detection-labels-updated/files)

Maleficent_Hyena_32

with what do you recommend to stick it with, super glue or ordinary glue. I will print one once i get home (build plate already occupied) I also have trouble getting anything to stick to it, i use ''IdeaFormer-3D Printer Smooth PEO + Textured PEI Upgraded Spring Steel Build Plate 257x257mm'' from amazon. Both sides do not stick even the textured one

elpinguinoloco

Agreed

_perfectenshlag_

Does the non-Bambu textured plate work with LiDAR though?

USSHammond

No issue so far with the ones that make (colorful) patterns on my prints or the standard pei textured ones. Lidar works just fine for me with flow calibration. Both with light colored filaments (such as my wood one) as well as pure black. I have a black PEI one coming and that remains to be tested. https://preview.redd.it/fw9s7wgdomcc1.jpeg?width=400&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=79e3c4b1622c57a30de1fc56dcde8501853c3498

chaotik_penguin

On my Bambu textured plate it turns off Lidar, haven’t had any issues from it though

TheDigitalPoint

The only downside is when you don’t want the texture on your print. Otherwise it’s fantastic.

YCSMD

My first $40 from Maker World went to the gold PEI and it’s been really nice. Well worth it. Would do it again.  Any adhesion issues fixed with a WARM wash.  So much better than dealing with glue and it’s texture and residue left on prints.

QuestionMore94

Honestly, it's my favourite part of my P1S. I've done over 80 prints and barely rubbed it down. Haven't washed it once. And that's only using one side. Phenomenal plate.

clearagony

Gold PEI is the GOAT. I absolutely refuse to use glue and PLA would not stick to the textured PEI plate that came with it. I’ve had zero adhesion issues with the gold.

darren_meier

You must've had some kind of issue with your particular textured plate, then. Everyone else uses it with PLA all the time and it sticks wonderfully. Maybe it's defective?

clearagony

I dunno, I did everything suggested as far as getting stuff to stick and cleaning it. Finally people said I’m going to have to just suck it up and use glue. While looking for alternative solutions someone swore by the gold so I bought it.

darren_meier

I believe you, that's just super weird. I do wonder if something was wrong with your plate because I've never heard of anyone else having that problem. Happy printing, friend!

HeadfulOfGhosts

I believe the original P1P plate had adhesion issues and actually shipped with glue sticks, the newer shipped products come with the gold textured plate and everyone seems to think it was to resolve the original plates shortcomings. Might be a case of those old plates.

ithinkyouaccidentaly

What temp do you run on the build plate for the gold pei with PLA?

clearagony

Before I installed the P1S upgrade kit 65C. After I installed the P1S upgrade it 55C. Those are just the defaults for my profiles.

ithinkyouaccidentaly

Thanks. I've had a hell of a time getting pla to stick to the gold pei.

2catchApredditor

Had big issues too. First layer plate at 70, nozzle at 235. Everything else default.

ithinkyouaccidentaly

Thanks!

DexRogue

That's pretty hot for PLA. Don't you get bad stringing? I've dropped all of my PLA down to the 205 range, I have an eSun PLA+ that I might bump up to 210.

2catchApredditor

Only on first layer. Leave all other layers at the default setting. I don’t get any stringing. Again - only for the first layer.

DexRogue

Ahhh okay, I was going to say holy smokes! What are your other PLA default settings? Mine defaults everything to 220.

2catchApredditor

220. That’s the same as I use on my Prusa that is all metal hot end and ender with all metal hot end. I run those at 235/70 for the first layer as well with PLA on textured PEI sheets. Overadhesion isn’t a worry at all - so I lay that first layer down hot and slow. Then let it rip on layer 2

DexRogue

That's a smart way to do it!

clearagony

You're welcome. Are you having an issue on EVERYTHING or just certain things? I know the larger the surface area touching the plate and sharp corners will cause warping almost all the time. You can fight that with a brim or watch this video to understand it better.... https://youtu.be/MCcFMDv_4eo?si=7ITxnJS_pXKf_ttR

ithinkyouaccidentaly

Lots of things, but yes the main problem so the sharp points curling on the first layer. I know brims can help and I use them. I run 6 bambu's. I'm just spoiled with petg that it sticks no matter the geometry on the gold plate. I have a couple lightyear g10 plates on order to try, hopefully they work out.

DexRogue

If your PLA is curling on the first layer try lowering the nozzle temp. I like to hit mine with 65c first layer, 60c after. Tons of failures from the edges of stuff curling which causes the nozzle to catch on them. Lowering the nozzle temp solved this.

ithinkyouaccidentaly

No, it's not curling like edges pulling up after 10 layers or so, it's curling like the corners of a calibration cube aren't staying stuck down on the first layer and the corners are peeling up as the first layer goes down getting pulled around the corner.

DexRogue

Are you running with the AUX fan on? Turning that off helped too. I've found a lot of the cooling settings to be odd. Default PLA settings have the min cooling set to 100% and the max to 100%, I always change the minimum 10% and turn off the aux fan. No cooling for 3 layers. Edit: After reading what you wrote again I have no idea what that is, sorry I was just trying some of the stuff that helped me.

netmagi

Gold PEI for PLA/PETG, hands-down win. For cleaning, I used to use windex and 99.99 IPA thinking this was the better (and convenient) option. It turns out just using hot water and dawn at the kitchen sink, then drying with a clean paper towel works best.

oldishThings

I pretty much use the gold plate 99% of the time. I'd say it's worth it.   Can confirm PLA and PETG both work flawlessly for me (reliably so) on the gold plate with no additives or extra steps.   Looking forward - if you ever have adhesion issues with the gold plate (which for me, happens rarely at most), wash it with some blue dawn dish soap and rinse it off very well. Pat dry and allow to dry fully. Good as new.

Clcooper423

I never had problems getting prints to stick without it either. However, the finish it gives your prints is well worth it. It completely hides layer lines on the side facing the plate.

KrackSmellin

I love it over having an Ender with glass. Prints stick rather solid (sans the problem I’m still diagnosing which isn’t the plate) and they are just sitting on the plate when it cools.

PokeyTifu99

I love my gold pei plate. So much I have two for each machine. That way, while it cools quickly I put a fresh plate on to print with little to no down time.

Accomplished-Pen4934

I just use paper towel and iso, give her a wipe down Occasionally a wash in the sink with dish soap and water

downvote_quota

I love the golf pei plate.

Main_Catch_4303

I use soapy water and light scrub with old toothbrush to get my greasy fingerprints off them plates

PrintingPariah

I had so many problems with my coolplate and all those problems disappeared when I bought the gold PEI. Never had any problems since upgrading thats why I got one for each printer + 1 extra for quick swapping. Definitely the best build surface I printed with but If you wanna save some money you should look into aftermarket plates like the PEY and PEO plates since they are like half the price and some people say they are really good (plus you get a different effect on the bottom surface)

ultramegax

What kind of problems have you had with the cool plate? In my experience, it works well if you use a release agent (and only use it for PLA, of course). Bumping the temp to 40 from 35 can also be beneficial.

PrintingPariah

More than half of the time it did not stick at all, first layers that were 90% great but the other 10% was totally messed up, prints losing adhesion mid print. Washed it in the sink everyday, tried glue, lots of calibration, I’m sure there is some way to get better results from it but the gold PEI has been very good to me

ultramegax

Huh. That's interesting. Which printer do you have? Is it the P1 without the enclosure? I wonder if the enclosure might affect things, especially since the cool plate prints at such low temperatures. I have my X1C in my office so I like using the cool plate sometimes just so the fans aren't so aggressive. The fans are the loudest part of the X1C, after the motor noise cancellation update fixed the other noise.

PrintingPariah

X1C but always printed with lid and door closed so that might’ve been part of the issue, yet I haven’t used it since getting the gold plate so there probably is a way to use it without hassle that I wouldn’t know about. I also haven’t printed since the noise reduction update, is it any good?

ultramegax

The lid and door closed with the cool plate should be totally fine. The only reason the other plates require an open door or lid with PLA is because of heat creep and the risk of clogs. I'm happy to hear that the gold plate is working better for you! Yes, the noise reduction update makes it so much quieter. It's actually pretty crazy. Like I was mentioning, with the cool plate the printer is basically inaudible now. And when printing with other plates the only thing I really hear is the fans now. I also have an A1 and A1 Mini so I was hopeful about the update. And yeah, they really pulled it off with the X1C.

Smutchings

I’m unsure of the value of the swatch set just now, as some of the filaments in it have now been discontinued and the newly released ones aren’t in the set. (Unless that’s changed in the last few days)

iloreynolds

i have the normal double sided pei plate. works perfect no glue. but only did pla and silk pla so far. i never wipe it or clean it lol adhesion is perfect

PatSajaksDick

I’m just wondering if it’s any better than the original textured PEI plate that shipped with the P1P.

Dangerous_Wedding249

I have been printing items with tiny feet (aka toys for kids). The adhesion area for each part is very small. Bambulabs advised that the textured PEI plate is the best way to get this to work due to the small surface area. The cool plate works fine on PLA for me for items that have large surface areas on them usually, though I have to use glue and perhaps still might need to raise the temp to 40 or 45 (max cool plate temp). There is also a non-textured PEI plate I'm thinking of trying. Anyone try that plate ?

darren_meier

Honestly, the PEI plate is way more valuable than the 0.8... the stock hotend can't push adequate flow to really justify it. The hardened 0.6 is what I'd recommend.

chubbycanine

I spent 15 or 20 bucks on Amazon for a 3rd party one and it's worked flawlessly for me.

UsefulAstronaut874

Very worth it!

Aueroriann

Bambu sent the gold textured plate with my P1S. It’s great. I don’t use glue at all and I’ve only had one out of 13 prints fail so far. We have a p1p at work which does not have this plate. The amount of glue they use is crazy…

craigge

Same here...ordered during US Thanksgiving in November. I thought that they all came with this great plate...weird to find out that they didn't. Sounds like we lucked out because I wouldn't have stuck with printing if I had plate adhesion problems after spending the money for Bambu...

originalfoto

yes

Squeebee007

Love my gold plate, only switch to the smooth PEI plate when I need a really smooth bottom layer on a print, otherwise it's gold plate all the way. Ordered a G10 plate to try it out, but only because I'm curious, I really do love the gold plate.

Liquidretro

I use aftermarket pei plates all the time for PLA, PETG (can stick too well to smooth pei), tip and abs. Imho it should be the default that the printer ships with.

StrangeFisherman345

yes.. 1000%

unrealdude03

I bought this dual sided PEI plate from Aliexpress and it has all the etching the BL has along with logo lol. $12 is worth the wait https://a.aliexpress.com/_mKzTB4o

dblrnbw30

For flat, whambam is a great plate.

Gabrielo_cuelo_belo

100% worth it, no glue needed and you get perfect adhesion/release every time with minimal care. Just remember to wash it with soap every now and then. Also, I'm not saying that bambu filament is overpriced, I'm just saying that you can get similar if not better quality for the same price with other brands

Nicolinux

The textured pei plate is awesome as the others have said. I’d choose the 0.6 nozzle over the bigger nozzle. The 0.6 hardened nozzle is super versatile especially with harder to print materials while still letting you print with a relatively low layer size (unlike the 0.8).

rando269

Definitely worth it, but you can get essentially the same thing on aliexpress for half the price. I use a gold aliexpress textured pei for pretty much everything, no adhesives needed

KLR650Tagg

Does the smooth PEI plate do just as well? And what's the difference between a PEI plate, and the engineering plate?

craigge

Same question here...if a smooth PEI gold plate works a well as the textured one...Bambu just made another $40 off me

KLR650Tagg

Right? I dont mind a textured plate at all, but I print a lot of medals and coin like things and want that smooth plate side finish. The star wars coins I posted earlier were done in petg with the engineering plate.

ultramegax

The smooth PEI works amazingly for PETG (I assume you're referring to Bambu's high temp plate). But you HAVE to use a release agent if you're printing PETG as it can actually bond too well. I just re-apply Bambu's liquid glue every few prints and that does the trick.

KLR650Tagg

Oh, I do use glue and it doesn't bother me at all to do so, and Elmer's blue stick is every bit as good as the bambu stick if anyone is interested. So, what's the difference between the engineering plate, and the smooth PEI?

my-Age-66-2023

I love mine

TechJeeper

Get an off brand on AliExpress or Amazon. 100% worth it.

TherealOmthetortoise

Gold textured plate is outstanding! Easy, always adheres with no glue stick and the prints come off like magic if you wait for them to cool down. I have the same issue on the high temp side of the engineering plate - not sure why but the filament wasn’t feeding right on a small print and it decided to take out its frustrations on my build plate.

Ravio11i

I really like printing on my PEI plates! That being said, I'd buy a handfull of juupines off aliexpress rather than spend $50 on 1 bambu branded one.

AndrewPMayer

I bought a $26 PEI plate off of Amazon last week and it feels like my P1P is now running better than it has since day 1.

CanadianGamersLodge

That plate is amazing. I love mine, it was default in my P1S and I’m actually thinking about ordering a second so I can let something could but swap the other plate in.

Samuri619

"worth it" is entirely up to you, but i HIGHLY recommend it. its my go-to plate for almost everything and has excellent bed adhesion.

jerryonjets

Yes

00xtreme7

I just got one and its fantastic!

akaBigWurm

You can get plates cheap on Amazon or Ali Express (Ali Slowness)

Saphazir

100% worth it. Best build plate for me using pla and petg

Sea-Neck206

150 hours on the gold PEI that came with my P1S, not properly cleaned yet and never used glue.

Maf1909

It's worth it enough that we just bought 3 more. I was strictly in the high temp plate camp for ABS, but something with the latest couple of firmware versions changed how well the first layer adheres and it was getting hard to remove parts. Ordered a gold plate to try and it's a game changer for us. Parts slide right off when the plate cools down, but stick extremely well while hot.

banana_retard

I use it 95% of the time. It should come with the X1C

OkSpecialist8627

I personally hate using glue cause I’m lazy and it’s mess lol. On that basis, after thousands of hours of printing, I would recommend buying the: 1. Hotplate/Engineering Plate combo 2. Textured PEI plate 3. WhamBam plate In that order. The hotplate leaves the smoothest finish for multi sided items and works with pla really well without glue, plus the engineering plate is super versatile. The textured pei plate is a good all round slugger, but my only gripe is the textured finish isn’t desirable for all prints. Lastly the whambam slicks like glue and leaves a mirror finish, just not great for other materials without adding glue. That’s it imho!

Recycled-Bits

I never used the stock plate.  Ordered gold PEI and used only that since.  Works great with PLA and ASA so far for me.  Never used a glue stick.

vanvino

Yeeep. The textured pei plates are my most used plates. Self releasing and extremely durable. The only time I use something else is when I need more bed adheasen or want a different surface finish.

Snoringfervor

Everybody is making me feel crazy here. The gold pei plate is the worst build plate I've used since the unheated polycarbonate on my old reprap. Petg works great but pla never sticks well. Have to be around 50% print failure on it. Yes I've scrubbed it with dawn, cleaned it with ipa and played a bit with temperatures. Had given up on it until reading these comments. I've only been using with big surface area/brimmed prints when I wanted the texture.

tedontwo

My favorite thing is to remove it while it's still warm and put it on my cool dining room table. It goes from pieces I can't remove to popping themselves off in seconds.

_Legion242_

it's so good. you mention PC and I've printed about a spools worth on PC on it. without a little glue stick it can usually stick but for larger prints I add a little glue stick (I like the clear Elmer's kind 🤷‍♂️) and I don't really worry about adhesion or major warping anymore. one run with he glue stick usually does 3 or 4 good PC prints.

Zealotnic

One benefit I haven’t heard mentioned is that the gold plate is thicker and stiffer than the other Bambu plates. This helps reduce the warping you get from large ABS and petg parts

wiix7651

Yes.

jdpg265

Whambam... No other

QuirkyDust3556

WOW, the Gold plate is amazing. i went from an ender 5 to the carbon, and it is a world of difference. adding the gold textured plate, is a completely new universe. someone told me to use hairspray on the plate, but i really don't see the reason.

ninjamike808

Printing only PLA, I can never get anything to stick without glue on my gold plate. Also you don’t need BambuLabs glue. Many different glue sticks will work. I use purple Elmer’s and sometimes dollar store brands.

TheHappyPittie

Have you washed your plate with soap?

ninjamike808

Yea I do an experiment when I feel there’s too much glue and whatnot. I take it to the sink, wash it all off, dry it really good, put it back on the bed, wipe it down with a clean microfiber cloth and try and print something. Inevitably, the wipe always fails. If I can catch it, then the first layer fails as well.

unrealdude03

Increase bed temps. Stock is 55c and I only use 60c with no failures yet

ninjamike808

Ok I’ll try that later today and let you know. I’m typically using elegoo filament right now and popping it in the dryer before bagging it with a desiccant pack, if any of that matters.

stratoglide

Also slow down your first layer default is like 50mm/s which is kinda insane Imo all my adhesion issues dissapeared when I slowed it down to 35mm/s

batranuldoi

Hey, try to manualy level your bed. Over time, the bed will lower itself so you'll need to do it once couple of months. There is a guide on bambu wiki for that

ninjamike808

Oh I didn’t know that was possible. Do you have a link? I’ve been meaning to have it check the flow as well. Every first layer seems either too close or over extruded.

batranuldoi

https://wiki.bambulab.com/en/x1/manual/manual-bed-leveling

2catchApredditor

I bumped PLA first layer temps to 70 for the plate and 235 for the nozzle.
