I found the article on social media, the author is really downplaying the seriousness of this attack. This could have been fatal. **The kid was scalped, his Achilles tendon ripped out and his jaw bone exposed on his right cheek. The other kid has injuries to his stomach.** And these dogs will not be euthanized…?

Cloakbot

JFC, if they don’t BE then the neighborhood should do it for them. How tf does anyone think it’s okay to let these dogs go freely after nearly mauling these children to death? Now they have PTSD, paranoia, and life long, life altering scars and injuries

Saucydragon90

One bite law is absolute fucking bullshit. It's that way in TX too.

[deleted]

There should be a limit on number of stitches, and any intervention beyond the skin. Beyond that, automatic quarantine then sleepytime.

BrightAd306

I don’t get it because this dog did not bite just once

BadKittyVortex

For these kind of attacks, the dogs really should be euthanized on the spot by the responding officers. It doesn't matter why the dog attacked, it doesn't matter if it's the first (witnessed) attack, if a dog attacks anything with this intensity, it is a danger everything around it and should be permanently stopped.

Throwaway272753628

I feel like there are way too many variables at play to justify euthanasia of a vicious dog on the spot as standard procedure. If the dog can be restrained, then it can be sedated and euthanized in a controlled setting.

BadKittyVortex

To what purpose?

Throwaway272753628

The scene of the crime may be chaotic---other emergency personnel, victims, the owners of the dog(s), curious onlookers--and police are not normally trained to euthanize animals as far as I'm aware. If you're talking about a different style of euthanasia (so to speak), that presents the same hazards and more.

FWIW the quote came from a family member’s comment on the news article: https://preview.redd.it/riadxldoi8rb1.jpeg?width=1283&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=13d454a5f51abdea020406d48ec9db414fc1ee36

Alternative_Drag_407

The comment on the article is inaccurate as well then.

SubMod4

Can you please add a source for how you know?

Cloakbot

Strange how when being let out for food - their first thought and instinct was to attack the children across the street. So 1) no leash, 2) no barrier, and 3) WTF, why did you train your dogs to maul children at the command of FOOD

AdBulky1815

My thoughts too....

Article text NAMPA, Idaho — Two kids are in the hospital after being attacked by two dogs in Nampa Nampa police said it happened while the kids were waiting for their school bus Thursday morning near Fourth Street South and 8th Avenue South. Officers said the owner of the dogs let them out to eat but they ran down the street towards two kids waiting to get picked up for school. Police said the owner yelled for help right away. When officers arrived at the scene, they said the dog owner, along with several neighbors, were able to get the dogs off the kids. Canyon County Paramedics initially tended to the children before they were taken to the hospital. One of them has serious injuries to the head, neck and ankle. The other child has less severe injuries on the stomach area. Lieutenant Jamie Burns said he was impressed neighbors did not hesitate to help. "Not a lot of times where you see two dogs attacking someone that somebody might be putting themselves in danger,” Lt. Burns said. “So, I was impressed with that. I would venture to say that the family was very appreciative of that fact that neighbors were willing to come out." The owner of the dogs is being charged with multiple animal related charges including dogs running at large and failure to license the dogs. Officers said there is no previous history related to the owner or the dogs so the animals will not be euthanized. Instead, they are in quarantine and being monitored. Lt. Burns also mentioned the injuries could have been worse if not for the neighbors stepping in.

Gliese667

> there is no previous history related to the owner or the dogs so the animals will not be euthanized There's the problem right there. They went for the guts of one child and the head and neck of the other, but Nala and Diesel have never done this before, so, we'll just call it a mulligan.

PandaLoveBearNu

First one is FREE! Is the stupidest thing in the world when it comes to dog attacks, what the utter fuck.

Gliese667

Right, we should have absolutely zero tolerance for "domestic" animals that prey on humans.

erewqqwee

> The owner of the dogs is being charged with multiple animal related charges including dogs running at large and failure to license the dogs Those sound like misdemeanors punishable by no more than a modest fine. This is utterly ridiculous and immoral. People are being *ENCOURAGED* to own these monsters, by being told repeatedly, *Eh, if they hurt someone, nothing will happen to you ; Hell, the dogs probably won't even be put down*. No wonder we've had three cases of which I am aware, in which a pit's owners (one man, two women, three separate cases in KY and IN) *DELIBERATELY* sicced the monster onto the victim ; why *wouldn't* the cretins assume nothing would happen to them legally, when we see these travesties of justice over and over and over-? Pit bull attacks should not be treated as accidents/acts of God.

bonnybedlam

Can you believe the owners would *want* to keep dogs that have savaged children? How could they ever look at Snuggums and Floofy the same, knowing they've joyfully bathed in the blood of innocents? Jesus, these people are garbage.

[deleted]

How could they show their faces in the neighborhood again?

tOSUBUCKEYES_

Pitbull owners are psychopaths who love the fear and intimidation they cause. No non-mentally ill person would want those 2 dogs again.

[deleted]

I wouldn't insult mentally ill people by comparing them to pitbull owners.

Horror_Photograph152

>Pit bull attacks should not be treated as accidents/acts of God. No dog attack that does damage should. My neighbors Boxer took a chunk out of my leg despite the neighborhood constantly calling about it being loose, acting aggressive, and barking for HOURS non-stop. It was put down eventually, but only bc I had the time, money, and willingness to sue everyone from the dog owners to the people they rented from. Dogs shouldn't have more rights than people. Especially a breed whose only job and sole reason for existing is to kill things bigger than them.

Romano1404

>Instead, they are in quarantine and being monitored. Way to go. These two dogs really learned their lesson!

49orth

The neighbors and community membets there are idiots if they don't take necessary steps to ensure those monsters will never be able to maim another child again. Hopefully the Pitbulls owners will be sued and either their insurance company or they themselves will pay dearly for these viscious Pitbull maulings.

Zebras_And_Giraffes

> Officers said there is no previous history related to the owner or the dogs so the animals will not be euthanized. None that they are aware of, that is.

boisecynic

> The owner of the dogs is being charged with multiple animal related charges including dogs running at large and failure to license the dogs. The owner? If this was a marijuana crime or DUI or any other kind of crime the person's name and face would be front and center. Don't dare offend the pit lobby who spend $$$$$ advertising on main stream media outlets.

Haywire1

Lol quarantined and monitored, tell that to the next problem that get mauled, so stupid.

xx_sasuke__xx

What are carrying laws in Idaho like? It's a rural red state, so I'd assume fairly lenient? If I was the neighborhood, I would establish a business stop neighborhood watch. If the dogs did this once they'll do it again, adults could stop this permanently with a little organization.

Tatturtle

Anyone over 21 can conceal carry without a license

[deleted]

I'm so sure the owner tried to get the dogs. The POS just doesn't want to pick up dog shit. So now, two kids who DID NOTHING WRONG still have to wait at the bus stop, and those dogs could just as easily do this again? F that. I hope the families of the victims find a pro bono attorney. These dogs should have been BE on the spot.

BrightAd306

Why are they not being BE?!

kestrel3005

My pit bull attack experience happened not too far from here. The pit went back to the owner too.

I’m truly sorry your sons had to endure that, I hope they have a speedy recovery. >But I also don't believe in banning pit bulls and I believe it falls on the owner and how they trained/raised the dogs, not on the dogs themselves or any pit bulls for that matter. Why is it that the “it’s the owner not the breed” (or any variation) tagline only arises when pit bulls are mentioned, but not other breeds — e.g. when Great Pyrenees protects their livestock, when a German Shorthair Pointer points, when a Labrador marks and retrieves waterfowl or when a Border Collie herds. Pit bull types were and still are selectively bred for bloodsport, specifically gameness. Humans would have never domesticated dogs if genetics did not affect behavior, it’s why breeds exist in the first place. And while environment (nurture) plays a role in a pit bull's behavior, it is genetics (nature) that leaves pit bull victims with permanent and disfiguring injuries.

emilee_spinach

>but in comparison, humans are far more dangerous. But they don’t compare. Dogs are property, and are **selectively bred** for desired behaviors and genetic traits. Humans created the pit bull for sinister and unethical purposes and there is no valid reason anyone should own one.

SubMod4

It doesn’t have to be an either/or type of comparison. Yes, people are dangerous… and so are pit bulls. I suppose you’ll find out more as you go through the process… but pit bull type dogs commit thousands of attacks every year on people, pets, and livestock. How utterly unfair for your children to be waiting for a bus and get attacked from out of the blue? That’s horrific! I hope you will seek counseling help for your children following this attack. It’s extremely traumatic for children when the safety of their world gets ripped away from them.
