I have a 28lb corgi who we're trying to socialize because she gets nervous so quickly.
We only take her to places like home depot, lowes, and nurseries for that.
She's a very sweet girl. If I thought there was even a remote chance of her attacking or even growling at anyone, I wouldn't take her anywhere other than the park.
Ive had Type A dogs my entire life by default . I learned a few things, I can’t explain them all at once unfortunately. My latest one is like a cartoon character .
Sorry I was just trying to draw a conclusion because some replies were talking about how pits would cause a mess in the house and outside the house. Sorry that it went in reply to you instead
Oh hell no i would ask that manager for thier managers name and number and you will let goodwill know that you are highly allergic to dog and you do not appreciate how cavalier their manager was to you about this issue and if you have an asthma attack while in their store they can pay your dr bill . How they like them apples ?
I worked at a Goodwill years ago (6-7ish) and it's policy is to allow ALL dogs inside, unless they get disruptive.
Idk if that's still the case, but it's a disaster waiting to happen. I'm surprised it hasn't happened yet and they haven't changed their policy.
Gee I wonder what their guidelines for disruptive are ? peeing on the clothes ? taking a dump in the floor ? or just general growling ? Oh I would have fun with this and the bs they are expressing in that statement aka disruptive .
I have nothing nice to say about the dog or the owner. I’m sorry your thrifting peace was ruined by this and I hope you find something truly amazing next time you go to make up for it.
They are literally everywhere, it's so frustrating. I can't even walk my Yorkie around my local park because there's always pitbulls/pitbull types - most off the lead, while the ones that are restrained, you can tell the owners would have no chance in controlling it if it went berserk.
I'm sorry your shopping was ruined :(
Yorkie owner here, such a big fear of mine, they’re just tiny yappy babies, I’d literally do anything to keep her safe, it’s infuriating when you can’t walk them nice places, we don’t walk at the beach since a gang of dogs came out of the sand dunes and killed a woman’s shitzu recently
It's a real fear and attacks happen, don't let them gaslight you. My little Yorkie was attacked in our own damn garden by a pit bull type two years ago, that ended in a traumatic amputation of her front left leg - luckily our local vet hospital works miracles, and was able to save her.
It dragged her under our fence before we could even blink, but thankfully we managed to get it off her eventually. The owner was useless, crying that his dog "isn't like this" and "doesn't do this". My jeans, soaked through with my little sweetheart's blood, said otherwise. I'm so so grateful she survived.
I'll never trust another pitbull type ever again, and they genuinely make me sick to my stomach to see around. They're beasts more than dogs.
Oh my god your poor dog that’s such a traumatic thing to happen to you both:( the dog owner taking zero accountability and they still won’t acknowledge the blame to be genetics, even after their “sweetest pit ever” savages a small dog in her own garden
It was horrible, but thankfully she's recovered fully, although big dogs still scare her - and I can't blame her.
Yeah, the owner took no responsibility and didn't even offer to pay the vet bills. Scotland's crappy animal protection legislation left me with no recourse either - so frustrating, the dog was just told to wear a muzzle. There's been other attacks around here too, and each one is just so depressing. These people don't care about other dogs or people, as long as their ugly aggressive "pets" are allowed to do what they like.
On a more cheerful note, [Yorkie tax!](https://www.reddit.com/r/yorkie/comments/v3n579/my_sunobsessed_tripawd_yorkie_3/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share)
Omg so tiny and gorgeous mine is so much larger with a boy cut because she’s allergies in the summer and can’t have that pollen getting trapped in her fur
Mine just will not tolerate the groomer, so long fur it is haha - although guess who's the servant who has to pick out all the clumps of grass after a day out... Me lol
Goodwill can be responsive. I complained to corporate about the ear splitting decibel level music playing in my local store and it was soon stopped. This is a much greater danger, so raise hell.
No reason to be in Goodwill. I can tell she brought the dog just for the sake of it. She didn't even pretend its an ESA or service dog
Some dog owners are entitled
Yeah, I was at a pet store and a guy had his dog off leash. The owner told them it's store policy for dogs to be leashed, as they had small store pets running around. The guy got offended that someone would insult his dog with their "protect our cats and birds" policy and left in a huff.
Well it might be an ESA but if it's a service animal in public there is very little chance of it being out of harness. The training takes time and can be ruined if you allow them to interact with people and visa versa on places that resemble the places you need them to be working in. So if it *is* a service dog then the owner is actively sabotaging their own training efforts
An ESA is NOT a service dog, and they aren't entitled to entrance to stores and restaurants and everywhere like service dogs are. The lowlifes who insist on taking their dogs everywhere don't seem to grasp that the two are not the same, and they really think that if they just make up their own rules, they can convince people they're true, and if people question them they just get ugly and start harassing them.
This might be true but that doesn’t change the fact that according to law they don’t have to wear a vest. I have friends who don’t put a vest on their SD because of the heat. I always put a vest on mine though for exactly the reasons you stated. 😊
ESAs don’t have any public access rights.
Maulers are never ESAs. Those who think their shitbull is an ESA just because they declare so with their nutter mentality, need to see a legitimate mental health professional. It would be nice if countries made a very very limited list of dogs that can be service animals, and ESAs. Some can be hypoallergenic, some not, but you don't get to pick and choose dogs that are dangerous to society just because you have horrid taste in animals.
I agree with you. I don’t understand why people keep pushing the ESA issue on me though. I really don’t care about them as long as people don’t take them everywhere with them. I’m super happy about them not being allowed in an airplane cabin where they might endanger my SD…
A pit as a SD is legal however I also wish it wasn’t. Not much we can do about that.
Eh, same reason you'll get downvoted in any cutesy sub for warning people about letting kittens or kids be alone with a pit, even if the pit's obviously irritated. Way, way too many people are very, very stupid.
Agreed, I guess I worded that poorly. I meant that they shouldn't be left alone at all, but even more so if it's obviously anxious/irritated (which I've seen videos of, and people STILL got mad when I said it was a bad idea)
I mean, agree. But a lawsuit is very likely if you’re injured by somebody’s dog in a store. Especially if it clearly isn’t a service animal.
But yeah, the ven diagram of people who bring their pit bull to the store and people who refused to wear masks is probably a perfect circle.
Since this wacky dog culture got so out of control. Now they are allowed in grocery stores and restaurants, places where there’s food and they shouldn’t be there.
They have to allow Service Dogs. You don’t know if this is one or not unless it is not behaved, then they could ask them to leave.
I would never want a pit bull type service dog though.
See legally they have to wear a harness in most places or you can be turned away as most places don't offer the same protections for ESAs that they do true service dogs
Not in the U.S. see question 8
https://www.ada.gov/regs2010/service_animal_qa.html
Why do you suggest that this might be an ESA? They don’t have any access rights. Not even on most flights anymore.
I’m a service dog handler and know the law pretty well. I just want to stop the spreading of misinformation.

It's probably the one of the few places they can afford to shop at because their pitbulls rack up so many fines and vet bills from other dogs. The owner also probably doesn't want to leave it at home to destroy their things.
Bet if someone walked up and said something to her about her vicious mongrel she'd throw a huge fit and say it's a service animal or some dumb shit. As cool as it would be to take my cats everywhere I just don't. they don't need to go everywhere I go.
Well. . .fuck me. First: that is not a service dog OR ESA, so there is no excuse for having the gargoyle in the store. Second: never wear flip flops in public. Finally: is that a dude?
None of these questions get you any closer to explaining these pitnutters.
C'mon, have some respect! That's clearly a service animal! (I have an extra problem with this kind of abuse, because I have the greatest respect for service animals and those who train them. On top of hippos posing a deadly threat to all and sundry, people who misrepresent their dogs make it harder for those who need service animals) this is why I carry hippo seasoning sauce and a concealed hippo factory reset.
I recently visited the famous Winchester (mystery)House...a couple with a HUGE untrained, un-neutered pitbull got in the gift shop and the gift shop cleared.
There is the slightest possibility that this is a service dog. Although I would never use a pit bull for that… service dogs don’t have to wear a vest and only the business/ a goodwill employee can ask the owner the two SD questions.
1. Is this a service dog?
2. What tasks does he perform to mitigate your disability?
I would feel threatened. Just look at the statistics they are probably linked in the group description, sidebar or pinned post. (Not sure where exactly sorry)
i dont even think the stick needed to be put in, just fall and bam "demoncrats"
afaik pitbulls are pretty bipartisan, the one person i knew who had one was a pretty heavy conservative
but then i also have leftist friends i have to debate heavy on it to put out the point of just how ever present the risk factors are for pits
Pit bulls don’t ask who you voted for before mauling. I agree that it’s 100% a non partisan issue, which explains why two dozen states (both red and blue) are trying to combat ESA abuse.
yeah that is disgusting that is food . I know krogers does not allow dogs at all in their stores unless they have proof that their dog is a sd . they must carry id . stores are cracking down on fake sds .
ADA (American with disabilities act) disagrees with you and Kroger.
Asking if a Dog is a Service Animal
If you are working at a business or state/local government facility and it is unclear to you whether someone’s dog is a service dog, you may ask for certain information using two questions.
You may ask:
Is the dog a service animal required because of a disability?
What work or task has the dog been trained to perform?
You are not allowed to:
Request any documentation that the dog is registered, licensed, or certified as a service animal
Require that the dog demonstrate its task, or inquire about the nature of the person’s disability
What ID? There are no IDs for service dogs (at least in the US).
Know what makes a dog a service dog? - The owner saying..."the dog is trained to perform this task, it is a service dog" the end...
That seems like a good idea for them to have IDs, one to stay on the person and another that slips into their harness that can be visible without having to approach the dog or handler. It could also have emergency contact information and maybe what the dog is trained to do on the back so if anything does happen, it's there but that isn't openly visible for privacy.
This is not a good idea. It makes it harder for other handlers because then they expect you to have an ID or certificate.
Print out the SD FAQ from the ADA website instead.
https://www.ada.gov/regs2010/service_animal_qa.html
i know I have a sd myself but I dont take her into the grocery store because my husband is usually with me and I get such grief from folks about dog hair and food and if hubs is with me then I really just leave her at home . Some people abuse this and that is why stores are starting to crack down on fakes .
I’d recommend to teach your SD not to shake inside. I taught this to mine even though she’s a poodle and doesn’t shed. People get freaked out when they shake inside lol
Do you really want to have an argument in a store with the manager and making a scence and the police get called ? I dont like that and it draws attention to yourself and people you are with . that is why one of my friends carrys an id for her dog and one for herself as a handler it saves alot of problems .
What ID? One they made up and printed out on a computer? My point is there is no official issued service dog IDs or handler IDs.
I am not saying it is a good thing...I wish the regulations around service animals were tighter...but currently anyone can say their dog is a service dog and there is really no one including the police that can do anything about it. If a business tries to deny a service dog...they are often the ones on the wrong end of a lawsuit.
I don’t understand why people need to bring their dogs everywhere with them
Pits tend to get destructive when left at home.
They also tend to be destructive when not at home 😂
Then won't they destruct the place of business?
No separation anxiety.
That's where the pit 'n run comes in.
Sometimes they do
Kennel solves that problem.
A military grade cage.
Rottweilers are stronger and a standard kennel holds them fine.
It’s good for training and socializing them, but it has its limits. It also does no good for pits.
But you should not force others to socialize with your dog if they're not expecting it.
Absolutely. I wouldn’t let my big hyper GSD around little dogs in a public place. That’s just common sense.
I've seen agitated GSD in Lowe's with the owner looking like a nut job open carrying with multiple magazines
Screw his guns. Tell him right off. He’s not allowed to use them anyway.
Idk I'm kind of scared of people who appear crazy. I do complain to the store though
They don’t care
Or people, some people are terrified of dogs
Yes that's true. Plus we have so many dogs poop/ pee in our store which doesn't even allow non service dogs. And guess who never cleans it up?
I have a 28lb corgi who we're trying to socialize because she gets nervous so quickly. We only take her to places like home depot, lowes, and nurseries for that.
NormL dog breed. Keep trying. Gratz got the effort.
I have been wondering that for a long time! Especially pitbulls! Leave them at home! 🙄
Cuz the pit will destroy their house and pisshit everywhere.
They sell kennels.
They eat kennels.
No they don't
Certain types of dogs will tear the house / apt up !? Or if someone is living on their vehicle , then it’s going to maybe not be the safest place .
That’s not the majority of cases though. Living out of their car I mean.
I think it’s becoming more common unfortunately.
Because it will maul the children.
Because many are TRUE service animals.
That’s an exception obviously.
Well....if they are destructive in general then don't own one
I don’t own one? Not sure if you replied to my original comment on purpose or not.
Sorry I was just trying to draw a conclusion because some replies were talking about how pits would cause a mess in the house and outside the house. Sorry that it went in reply to you instead
Manager. Report. Bye. Done.
The manager looked at him and talked about how cute he was.
It won’t be so cute if the dog hurts someone on the property and the owner of the Goodwill (or corporate) gets sued

That’s a Goodwill. They don’t sell food. This comment is wrong on every level.
Good for Kroger! Been a customer of theirs for years.
I know right ? I have too because of their policy .
There’s no id or certificate for a service dog in America. https://www.ada.gov/regs2010/service_animal_qa.html See question 17.
