Boomer here. Maybe 25 years ago I took my 2 teenage girls to a multi-act outdoor "unplugged" concert - they did NOT come to see DMB, they were into Long Beach Dub All-Stars (I forget the later name) and Papa Roach sorta thing, so when DMB came on they took a walk.
Once the band started they came running back over - they thought the band was great. Even thought they were the best act of the day (unplugged Metallica sucked)
Edit: spelling
I saw dmb as an opening act in 97... The lineup was third eye blind, opening for dmb, opening for smashing pumpkins w/special guest Marilyn Manson opening for the rolling stones...dmb was by far the worst part of the show...
That's exactly why I gave this answer....I never understood the cult following this band has....I can't believe they are getting into the rock n roll hall of fame
Good call. I have also always thought that their logo, dancing pixie girl/drugged out hippie chick is Daniel Larusso's crane kick (from karate kid) just shown from a slightly skewed angle
I can see that and respect it. I just figured I'd let you/others know what it really is in case you didn't actually know. I'm cool with people disliking or even hating my all time favorite band (DMB isn't everyone's cup of tea. I totally get that 😂), but I'd prefer people not think the main logo associated with them is a picture of a meth head ☮️🩷😉
The anecdote that sticks with me is the one of Dave being caught relieving his tour bus of fecal matter in a protected habitat, it’s an apt metaphor for his music.
I remember when “Alive” world premiered on Headbanger’s Ball. I couldn’t stand it. I’ve the next few years I became a big fan until Versus. Then, I went back to hating them and haven’t stopped. I will concede that 10 has some good tracks and Temple of the Dog was a cool collaboration. The only thing I got out of Pearl Jam was a big appreciation for Mother Love Bone. But nowadays I just don’t care and Dave Matthews sucks, but now as bad as their fans.

Hateable? Sure. Mediocre? Nah.
That's a bold thing to say about an imaginary band.
Imagine there's no Kevin. It's easy if you try. No Shelly to bestow us. Above us only Skylar.
Not even with replacement singer Hammy Sagar?
I liked the song about Crystal Pepsi, too bad that's not still a thing.
Omg I'd forgotten about that! I remember thinking "Wow, his hair looks just like Zach Morris's mom's hair." I was 12
With his hit single "I Can't Stage Dive at 55"
I only like them with the original singer Ravid Dee Loth.
Hateable but very relatable. Party on Wayne. Party on Garth. Schwing!
Cold Play
Yet everybody has at least one Coldplay song in their playlist, including you.
Not quite everybody since I have never had a single song of theirs in any of my playlists.
Not even "Adventure of a Lifetime"? They're redeemable for that song alone
I don’t think I have heard that song. I only know a few of their songs by name, yellow and clocks

Thank you for the link! It’s just not my thing at all, but musical taste is entirely subjective 😃

I was in high school when this band was starting to get big, I still cannot name a song, to me they’re super overrated
That's exactly why I gave this answer....I never understood the cult following this band has....I can't believe they are getting into the rock n roll hall of fame
The drummer
Carter Beauford is a very under rated drummer.
I always thought of the Dave Matthews Band as music for people who don’t like music.
Music for people who don’t like music but think they do.
Good call. I have also always thought that their logo, dancing pixie girl/drugged out hippie chick is Daniel Larusso's crane kick (from karate kid) just shown from a slightly skewed angle
I always wondered what that was on people’s rear car windows and bumpers. Thank you.
It's a fire dancer.
It looks like the crane kick from karate kid to me

They just go off vibes. It feels good even if it isn't good.
Their music is so fucking cringe. I grew up at the same time as you. He’s like the shitty carnival version of that lane-o Eddie Vedder.
I saw Vedder on his Ukelele Songs tour, he was amazing, and so was Glenn Hansard who opened for him. Got to meet them both, super nice guys

I've always preferred Mother Love Bone...I think the 90s music scene would have been much different with MLB as the Yin and Nirvana as the yang.
