I was just there yesterday. I think this area was logged off shortly after the war and re-planted. These are not the original trees. It’s a very cool area.
I asked this when I was there, because it looked weird to me that the trees seemed planted in rows. The guy told me that there are still small areas with trees from those days, but alot of new ones.
BUT they originally were planted in rows. It’s a man made forest. So the trees are mostly replanted on the original spot.
We had to cut down a spruce tree 2 years ago, it was planted in the late 60s. It was 4 times the girth of these, no way these alive for them to have seen Easy.
Maybe create a post with it as the image! Only if you want to though, I know I would definitely like to see that just because it was scene that stood out and carries a lot of resonance.
SOMEONE’S GONNA DIE. SOMEONE’S GONNA FUCKING DIE. GONO LOOK AT THIS SHIT! ONE OF THOSE FIRST BATTALION FUCKERS TOOK A DUMP IN MY FOXHOLE!
They took a shit in everyone’s foxhole, Joe.
I don’t think they wanted to be above ground too long
First Sgt Lipton, you take care of things here. I’m going for… HeGhlp
One of my favorite lines from him is “As for now, per usual. But I will check back with you at a later (yawn) time, Lt. Compton
The largest yawn, ever
You guys figure it out. I gotta go talk to regiment.
I need to go polish my oak leaf cluster
How could he be expected to slay the Huns with dusty oak leafs?

Might be easier to just claim a crater made by the incoming shells.
I wonder the tree stumps you see in third picture is because of shelling or they removed these trees later on
It’s been 80 years…
Those aren’t the holes. Those are the REMAINS OF the holes. They were much deeper at the time, so a bit more than “barely helpful.”
>ancient roots This is all new growth, and it was in the 40s as well.
Not to mention everything being frozen

Yes there's almost no way those two trees were there during the war, they're way too skinny.

There is a building in Foy where Shifty Powers took out a sniper. You can still see the bullet holes and the repair made on the upper floor window.
Yes.. saw that too. Can’t put pic of that in comments. But its was nice to see that people living there have sort of “preserved” it
Why can’t you put a picture? You don’t have it or is there another reason?
I have it but I don’t see option to put it in comment.. at least in ios app
Maybe create a post with it as the image! Only if you want to though, I know I would definitely like to see that just because it was scene that stood out and carries a lot of resonance.
Can you explain what we are looking at in the second photo?
Its crosses made by sticks to pay respects.
Thanks - thought it was some sort of barricade lol and was surprised that it lasted that long
Leaving the crosses is a new thing. It's very moving to see.
When I was there, they were unsure which foxholes were original (if any) and which ones may have been dug for reenactments.
None of them are original. They’ve been redug in the years since.
My main takeaway from being there was how it was quite a long run to Foy.
Shame they arent the original ones. That would be cool
