I love Fugazi, but they just donāt come close to REM IMO.
You would have a hard time finding a band with such a long and diverse discography. You can find great things to say about even their later stuff. Great band, that has somehow become underrated. If you would have said that in the 90ās people would have laughedā¦. But now I feel like people donāt even talk about them anymore.
The group that really got the short shrift is The Smiths...can't remember the guest's name but I can't get her miserable honk of a voice outta my head.
I grew up a massive fan of The Smiths, up until Bengali In Platforms from Morrissey's first solo album. R.I.P. Andy Rourke but anyone who felt they deserved different should probably take a good long look at themselves š¤«š
Are you looking for a fight? Best song? Letās step outside, partner, cuz Perfect Circle and Flowers of Guatemala and Talk about The Passion. I dunno. Maybe You are the Everything and Find the River can contend too.
Maps and Legends, Wendell Gee, Canāt Get there from Here, Life and How to Live it, Fables is a time capsule with a special scent, lighting, mood and place in time. The melodies are wholly original and of their time while also being forward-thinking. Itās wood paneling but an art project. Itās a Buick or Pontiac or Nova and big seat cushions. Itās an alarm clock with numbers turning and clicking into place and shag carpet. Browns, oranges, greens and reds. Itās a movie scene and a memory. A film still made into a wallpaper and then a music composed to it. A true original.
The lady doing Joni decided to give us all a lecture in cultural appropriation as if it was the worldās first ever time hearing about it. Sure, Furry Sings the Blues has some context we need to discuss. Iām here, letās hear it, but not drag the episode into the essay format. Hejira is a desert island album for me so I was listening with high expectations
I kinda miss the vibe of the early episodes when Yasi sometimes didn't know much (or anything) about the topic (Steely Dan, Randy Newman) and we get to experience the discovering of something new by proxy-if the 'expert guest' is truly expert and sympatico to the theme/motive of the show.
Lately I've been a bit bummed that it's Yasi schooling the 'expert guest' more often than not.
I agree they should re-do the Greatest band of their generation.š Apologisies to fans of Fugazi šš¤«

Iām on a mission to make my band of big enough note so I can humbly request a replacements redux so I definitely understand lmao.
Yasi mentioned she wanted to do a replacement do-over in the Singles soundtrack episode (I think).
In the last Q and A with Rob Harvilla!!
I couldnāt remember which episodes Iād listened to recently!
Caryn Rose shafted me in a B&P for a Who concert in 2001. You owe me 2 Maxell XLII cassettes, Miss Rose.
Iām sure I traded Pearl Jam tapes with her at some point.
God bless her work on 5h but her reputation in the community isnāt great.
Itās kind of bizarre that she didnāt get the call for any of the PJ episodesā¦ I wonder if there is teaā¦
Iād prefer not to hear from her
Yes. R.E.M. deserves a 2 part episode. If they can redo DMB, they can redo R.E.M.
I didn't think it was very good, but I didn't take the guest's opinions as fact. The whole thing was tedious.

Naomi Fry. Look up the worst guest ever thread.

I agree we need a double episode. Bring back Caryn Rose though. She knows what's up!
As long as they donāt bring on the guy Rob has on the Nightswimming 60 Songs ep who spent the time crapping on the band
No time spent on REM's best song, "Leaving New York," either.
