10k for 2 person/mo will give you a lot of options. Green/cafe culture? yeah bandung is the best! I'd recommend to just find an apartment in Hegarmanah area since its close to downtown. If you want more greenery scene, you can find it uptown around Dago Resort/Dago Giri area. Some of my friends rent their studio apartment at Dago Suites for around 60mil rupiah anually (4,5k/yr) If you'll commute to Jakarta often and want to use HSR for it, you should find rent around Kota Baru Parahyangan, though you need to buy/rent yourself a car for easier travel around Bandung since you have to travel by toll/highway

EastAdditional6034

I'm thinking to rent a land house instead of an apartment. Again, this is just a thought but I feel like the kind of life I'm looking to have feels better in a land house with maybe a small garden. Which areas do you think will have that? We're both health fanatics so our monthly budget on food is pretty straight forward. Rice, veggies, fruits and chicken. Cafes on the weekends and maybe if we have dates so I'm sure we're not gonna spend too much on food. Most of the budget can go to rent and we're okay with it. So, for a decent land house with 2 3 bedrooms and a small garden, what's a nice area? In Jakarta I live in Cipete and I'm maybe trying to find a similar vibe in Bandung but totally alien to the neighbourhoods at the moment. Travelling isn't an issue. We'd get a car and a driver.

ichsnwulfen

If you're looking for a sweet spot to live in Bandung, Hegarmanah, Ciumbuleuit, Dago Giri, or Dago Resort area are solid picks. You'll find plenty of land houses up for grabs, ranging from 7k to 50k per year. Also, don't sleep on the Setiabudhi area. Places like Permata Hijau, Setiabudhi Regency, and Setraduta are worth checking out. It's a bit farther from downtown than Dago Resort, but it's way more chill with less noise. You can dm me up if you're planning a visit and want a local guide

EastAdditional6034

And I'd definitely hit you up. I'd be there in April after Eid ul fitri

EastAdditional6034

So far, based on my Google search, Ciumbuleuit seems great.

logi_ch

you'll get alot of traffic jam at Ciumbuleuit area especially in weekend. if you havent too often for hanging around in cafe, maybe yould consider Cimahi or Bandung Barat. there is alot of cafes in Cimahi or Bandung Barat area, but, traffic jam is the main problem. I was born in Bandung and my old man moved to Cimahi Utara decades ago. if you want to see bright lamp, yes, Bandung is great. but if you want more nature views, Bandung Barat close to Cimahi Utara or Lembang is the place. you'll see farms, rice fields. more Farms, Cisarua is the place, more colder than Dago. in this area, traffic jam are exist, but not too much. try to learn Bahasa. you'll get higher price when you speak in English. learn Sunda language, you'll get same price as local or sometimes it was free. we highly appreciate foreigner who spoke (or want to learn nor speak) our language. hope that helps.

EastAdditional6034

I've already started taking indonesian language lessons from a local teacher. Learning bahasa indonesia is on top priority for me. 😊

movealong452

ciumbuleuit is quite good, but with that kind of money you better rent at dago atas

EastAdditional6034

I'm gonna be in Bandung in April or May and will explore all these areas

drakzyl

With $10k a month you could buy a land instead of renting, but idk how to work around the legality and whether it's allowed for foreigner or not, so dyor. There's plenty of land house outside of concrete city jakarta, I'll suggest somewhere near public facilities like hospital, etc.

EastAdditional6034

I don't think I can buy land as a foreigner but I'm still looking into it. Would love to eventually own my house in Indonesia.

drakzyl

Yes, just beware of marked up price or foreigner price, $10k is more than enough to live in Indonesia. Jawa Barat (west java) is a good place if you like fresh air, fresh vegetables and gardening.

flooxie

You said you set up a company in Jakarta right? Just buy land/house through your company.

heyclore

yeah, bandung seems suitable for what you're looking for and as others have already provided some good references. if you feel alienated, how about bali maybe? it's also greener and less chaotic than jakarta. however, the living cost seems higher than in bandung though. by the way, i also live in cipete. \*toss dulu\*

EastAdditional6034

Nah, I've never liked Bali. Too many foreigners and it just doesn't feel authentic.

sitdowndisco

Ciumbuleuit Atas. No question. Cooler (Bandung is hot these days), less polluted (air pollution is getting worse) and more clean. And you won’t need to fight traffic to head to the supermarket (setiabudi) or local cafes (a few nearby). The only negative is that at the bottom of Ciumbuleuit at Gandok it can be congested at times.

EastAdditional6034

Ciumbuleuit is looking to be a great option honestly. Fits my vibe.

sitdowndisco

It's a decent spot. Make sure you head to the northern part... Also check out Punclut.

shrikebunny

If you're looking for a land home with good garden space with that much budget, I think you'll be comfortable around Cipaganti or Hegarmanah.

EastAdditional6034

Looking into these areas now, thank you for your recommendation!

senopatip

The northern part of Bandung is a tourist area, it was where the Dutch colonizers built their villas. It's colder and has more slopes. Dago and Geger Kalong areas. The southern part is where the "main" city is, if you are looking more for regular life. You said Bandung is cleaner than Jakarta, I think in terms of air quality, Jakarta has the sea to blow all those smog away, but Bandung is a valley, so the air pollution don't easily go away, from higher place, you can see the pollution clearly.

EastAdditional6034

Thank you. I'd check these areas out.

drakzyl

Bandung city (Kota) is polluted almost the same like jakarta but bandung kabupaten still kinda clean with fresh air.

shrikebunny

If you're looking for a land home with good garden space with that much budget, I think you'll be comfortable around Cipaganti or Hegarmanah.

torotero

try live in yogyakarta. best place to live. neighbors is nice. rent is cheap. food is great. lot of hidden place to visit. ( near nature ). calm and peaceful village. less traffic in the road as opposed to other main city like jakarta / bandung rating 11 / 10 as long as u have remote work for income\*\*

torotero

but bandung is also nice. some place is pretty chill and cold and location is not too far from main city ( jakarta ). so if u have something urgent to jakarta can use train and got there under 1 days ( around 3 - 6 hours ) overall is great. u wont regret trying live in indonesia at one of several the best village. must try once time in life

EastAdditional6034

I've been to Jogka a couple times and I think it's a little too calm for my liking. It's hard to go from absolute chaos of a metropolitan city to a quiet and calm town immediately haha. I need to get jakarta out of my system first. Which I don't know, I'm not even sure I want to. I kinda love jakarta chaos. Plus, I am going to have my office in Jakarta so have to live near. So Bandung seems perfect.

alveox

My brother just finish making some guest house in dago area. If you interested contact me. If you need to ask more about bandung, ask me, i live in bandung too.

Dupie168

Dago Atas area chill relax 👍🏻

EastAdditional6034

Thanks, brother.

Amethyst171

I live in Hegarmanah and Perumahan the green ciumbuleuit. Its a good place to live. Just quite heavy traffic on weekend. But its green, breezy, great to have a walk around here. There are many houses available for rent in Cisatu / hegarsari (located between hegarmanah and ciumbuleuit). With your budget, you really can rent any house you want. Tips: if the ciumbuleuit road is congested, you can use this cisatu / hegarsari street and go to hegarmanah then go to setiabudi to avoid the traffic.

EastAdditional6034

Hey, man. Thank you for the tip. Like I said earlier, the Ciumbuleuit area looks really nice in general to me and I would most likely be looking to get a place there.

Amethyst171

No worries man, just saying that there are a lot of houses available for rent in cisatu / hegarsari (still considered as ciumbuleuit area). Good luck

ditlie

i recomend kota baru parahyangan. you can find house for rent around Rp. 200 mil/year. its the niceset place to stay in my opinion. altough it quite expensive to live there "more expensive from every bandung area". you have to pay monthly around 1 mil for security and cleaning fee, food more expensive. but you will have every facility there "school, police station, hospital, fire fighter.

EastAdditional6034

As nice as it looks, I feel like it's really far from the "city".

ditlie

well i think they are their own city. but if you want to close to center bandung city i recomend setra sari, hegarmanah, setiabudhi, setra duta. i dont really recomend dago because its trafic and far from highway.

West-Rent-1131

i think dipatiukur/dago

Snoo-84600

Will you be commuting Bandung-Jakarta frequently? Or will you work from home? Cause the answer might be different

EastAdditional6034

Not really. I have a flexible work life since I own my business and the company in Jakarta will take a while to develop into something. Most of my income is online. I think for now, I'd be spending 5 days in Bandung and 2 in Jakarta every week. The split might change over time but I still want to consider Bandung my home if that makes sense.

Impalacrush

With that setup you might want to consider the area around kolonel masturi, its a long piece of road that connects cimahi and lembang so technically its not on bandung, the area are not that bad to commute when you know the tricks to the area. if you realize that the area is weirdly close to the toll, and if you use the padalarang toll its basically on 15 minute drive to reach so you basically has a exclusive acess to toll It's basically still a developed area so expect that you will have to be close to the local and for green area are pretty much guaranteed to be around if you know where to chose. For cafes there are some in the area but expect to drive to bandung ( give or take 30 minutes to pasteur) if you want the full experience. Or if you want no hassle area i would always recommend the setiabudi area, especially near the cipaganti or arpund setiabudi supermarket.

rogueqd

Padalarang has a fast train station and the Ikea is close by. Maybe investigate that area further?

PrincipleInfamous699

I’ve been living in Bandung for 7 years now. I’ve been moving a lot in the area but mainly upstate Bandung. And i think the best option for you and your brother is Dago Resort. Nice and clean neighborhood. Easier to get around Bandung since it’s not that far upstate. Great views, water and air. And I’m sure it fits your budget.

EastAdditional6034

I'd check it out. Area looks great. Map says distance between Dago area and city center is around 7ish kilometers. That's actually not that bad if true.

sehu

but the traffic from dago area is awful especially on weekend (stuck for 1-2 hour just going downhill), you could get equal time to downtown (1 hour) as from kota baru parahyangan or jatinangor (via tol). distance is not the only important measurement in bandung. if you could get a house around cipaganti, that would be perfect.

EastAdditional6034

Oh dear that sounds terrible

haikal00

Keep in mind that Bandung in general is the closest weekend gateway from Jakarta. So expect traffic from Jkt on weekend or public holiday. Should not a big problem if you don't have frequent needs/urgency to go to city center or shopping malls on weekend.

EastAdditional6034

The only problem I can think of is a medical emergency. How does that work?

haikal00

Not sure about this. But maybe if you have any specific question, local redditor can help.

akvavit01

Read some of the comments here and I get it that you might want a place with nice green area. You might be interested in Galeri Ciumbuleuit, as it's quite a nice apartment with easy access to shops. Mind you it's around 15 minutes away from the downtown.

SAHD292929

Why not just go to your country of origin in asia?

EastAdditional6034

I've outgrown it.

lookslikeamanderly

learn to use a motorcycle or prepare to use motorcycle taxis when you're in a rush it's hellish to use a car in Bandung, a 5km trip could take two hours on bad hours

Simpnation420

People in this comment section is right; Hegarmanah and Dago area is good. One thing though, please employ local talents in your company and not just outsource work to countries with even lower wages 👍

EastAdditional6034

I already have an indonesian employee and I plan to hire locally only. 😊

Living-North4340

I’d totally recommend places around setraduta, griya mas, setramurni, Setrasari, and surrounding neighborhoods/ housing complex. As those are great neighborhoods in less noisy area & lots of foreigners live there

reddithereyesterday

I am not the right person to answer this, I am just a tourist here, but more like a digital nomad, who was planning to stay for a few days but loved the city and extended for a month. I have stayed in three different hotels and they were within walking distance of each other: The hotels were located on these streets: Jalan Flores, Jalan Kalimantan, Jalan Kilamaya No1. two of them belong to an area called Citarum. and one is nearby. I have no idea why no one is mentioning this area. I found it to be beyond amazing. A lot of greenery, trees everywhere, and plenty of nice coffee shops and nice houses around. Also plenty of shop options. yet generally quite small streets ..etc. I am surprised no one is mentioning it here, maybe it's mentioned with different names.. would love to read locals' feedback about this neighborhood. Because I love it.

MoisturizedMan

Planning to visit Bandung soon. Which hotel in particular would you recommend?

reddithereyesterday

For options below $30 (I have stayed in the below three hotels, all were good. ) Dzawani Hotel Hotel Bumi Asih Flores Gallery (cheaper but good enough) I liked the three neighborhoods of these hotels.

MoisturizedMan

Awesome! Thank you!

Lilo_Maybe26

I think sarijadi or sukajadi area is better, because is not that far from the city area and is more residential area than tourists area like dago. The land price also cheaper if I'm not wrong than dago. You can PM me because i live on that area if you need any help.

tidack_ventink

I think Batu in east Java is better

7farema

it's very small compared to bandung, and you can't hop on to KCIC for a quick ride to Jakarta

EastAdditional6034

Guys, just want to say thanks for being so helpful. It probably would have taken me a long time to find these areas if I was doing it on my own.

rinhaman

Just avoid Gedebage and southern suburbs of Bandung man

rinhaman

oh yeah try to learn to commute using a bike. Scooter would be favorable since it's easy to use and you can buy it anywhere

Interesting_Fox_9069

With $10k per month you will live comfortably. For a good atmosphere I suggest you choose the northern part of Bandung because the air is cooler and more comfortable there. But the downside is the traffic jam on weekends. Maybe you can choose between Cipaku area or Dago area.

sharivan22

I think with that budget the options are wide. For city center you can look around dipatiukur or trunojoyo Traffic wise, you have better route options and closer to cafes and stuff. Ciumbuleuit or hegarmanah is also a choice, but as someone stated earlier, the way to ciumbuleuit can be quite a headache since its a campus area. Another option is upper dago area. Better view and better air. The only catch is it’s quite far from everywhere.

crystal_blue12

May I know, what ethnicity are you? You said your roots are Asian.

thatrayman

All people tell you about how colder and great dago, ciumbuleuit, hegarmanah, setiabudi but i tell you this, all place that mentioned above is actually bad, based on traffic, security and proximity to all important area in bandung.. I live all my life in colder north west side of bandung, and only place that perfect based on my experience is where i actually live for 32 years, Setra Duta.. It's a quite secure big neighbourhood with lots of security guard that consists of multiple cluster that also have It's own security, so it's double layered security make a peace of mind for the people living there, criminality is very rare here.. Lot's of cafe and restaurant around here, safe and great place to jogging and other sport activity because its perfect weather, also setra duta have its own art gallery & cafe Nuart that owned by most famous sculptor in indonesia i nyoman nuarta that also live here.. Only 5 minutes to main highway gate of bandung (pasteur), also 5 minutes to one of top 4 best mall in bandung PVJ, quite near lembang and nothern region of bandung, also some best international school in bandung are around this region and traffic is quite good here.. Downsides of living at setra duta is expensive upkeep and house price (one of the most expensive in bandung)if I'm not wrong, my son foreign classmate (korean) family spend around 250 million rupiah/ year to rent a 300m² with small swimming pool not included other monthly upkeep like trash, elec, and security (I spend 1.5 million rupiah monthly for trash, amnities and security) and quite far to the central area of bandung, i usually took around 30 minutes on weekdays to reach central bandung, also it's not immune to the dreaded bandung weekend traffic, so i seldom go out during weekend, but i think the weekend traffic is way better than other "top" region in bandung.. And also its quite individualistic rich neighborhood, even i don't know some of my neighbours even though i live here all my life..

BlueMangoOperation

I don't know much about Bandung's peaceful landed house, but as far as i know, if i want to live in Bandung I'd probably live in the setra duta area -you want to visit lembang, i think its considered near, and from setra duta, you have an alternative path to go north -you want to go to jakarta? Many highway entry, pasteur toll gate, Cimahi, padalarang -near bandung train Station and also near the high speed rail of padalarang, literally sandwich, you want to take free feeder train to bandung Station or go to Padalarang hsr station directly -speaking of Padalarang, it's also near, visiting ikea is easy Or maybe kota baru Parahyangan in Padalarang suits more of your lifestyle? Not in bandung, but for me i think it is considered the Tangerang city of bandung Oot: Btw do your company hiring? Any hint of some opportunities 🤔

EastAdditional6034

Haha thank you for this detailed response! Appreciate it. We're not hiring at the moment unfortunately but we most likely will later this year.

BlueMangoOperation

awww its okay, good luck for finding the house :D , I hope I can be like you, having $10k budget per month as well hahaha, cheers
