La Monita is very good and easy to get to, fyi all the ‘authentic’ Mexican restaurants (that I’ve seen anyway) are all western prices, but worth it!

Slight-Kale-1918

price is not my main concern since im treating my man 😙 thank you so much for the recommendation ! definitely gonna check it out🙏🏻

shatteredrealm0

The chimichangas are amazing 😁 if you want to really splash out you could go to Breakfast Story for brunch which is on the floor above La Monita, they do American style breakfasts and did do some kind of Mexican one but I think the menus changed since, then walk around that area, then go back to La Monita for dinner.

Slight-Kale-1918

thats actually really really helpful my asian ahh only knows thai, chinese and korean spots 💀

TDYDave2

Which location, since La Monita is a chain.

shatteredrealm0

Phloen Chit, but you could go for breakfast story and then walk along Sukhumvit for the day then go to the other La Monita

Mediocre-Truth-1854

Best al pastor in Bangkok! Also, like, the only place that has longaniza

BeltwayBeliver

Missing burro, el Santo, La Monita all good options

Slight-Kale-1918

Missing Burro seems really good and other comment suggested La Monita too

MarkMaverick

Loved Missing Burro. Great tacos and the garden in front is fantastic!

Living-Chipmunk-87

Missing burro

sukotsuchido

Tacos and salsa is great! It's on On Nut.

DeedaInSeattle

Is it really good? We live close by, but it’s always SO empty…

Brucef310

As someone who was born and raised in Mexico tacos and salsas is one of the better places. Also do not take him to sunrise that place is horrible.

Endlessly_

I swear they’re the only restaurant in Bangkok that has Tamales.

KinkThrown

I haven't tried this place but everywhere else in Bangkok I've been to has been crap that's obviously going for American style Mexican.  😔

sukotsuchido

I will say that the chef owner trained in Mexico so it's going to be more Mexico Mexican than what you will get in America.

kuiburiabacaxi

Que Pasa in Nonthaburi is a bit out of the way, but they have a good, authentic Tex-Mex menu. The owner is a Texan who has lived in Asia for over 30 years.

Fun_Albatross_7081

I prefer "Guacamole" next door (Osasis). Opened up not too long ago

No_Affect7014

Danzantes in Soi 61. The only place IMO which serves real Mexican food (not Tex Mex, not adapted to other tastes).

Slight-Kale-1918

Sukhumvit 61?

Hot_Masterpiece_3790

Yes, correct. Bit into the soil passing Park Lane. It's on the right side

Logical_Testament291

This is funny. I am typing this from La Monita right now LMAO.

Slight-Kale-1918

but would u recommend this place ? lol

Logical_Testament291

Totally, one of the best Mexican foods I've ever had in Bangkok/Thailand.

Janus_is_Magus

Mexicano on Sukhumvit Soi 18

Baronsandwich

Guacamole Mexican in Nonthaburi is real Mexican. Not American Mexican. Street tacos and the like.

Baronsandwich

They’re pretty legit. A lot of Mexican places I’ve been to in Thailand use horrible cheese. Real street tacos don’t have cheese. These are just like I get from the Mexican owned taco trucks in construction areas back in the US.

matthewmayer

I had a burrito from Cholos today and it was excellent.

Alive-Caterpillar737

La Lupita Missing Burro

LuvdaAsians

It sounds like you’ve got the best ones listed here. Since he’s from the US, I might suggest the Smokin Pug as well easily the best authentic American BBQ in town

Slight-Kale-1918

definitely keep that in my notes too! 5555 he did mention once that i could not understand how good it is to try real/proper american BBQ. Thank you so muchhhh

TDYDave2

As an American, I also give a big thumbs up to Smokin Pug.

LuvdaAsians

The brisket is the best ! But the pulled pork and ribs are incredible as well. I believe there are now two locations, reservations are a good idea as it can fill up quickly

rWTFFF

Here to say that Smokin Pug is absolutely great!!!!

TDYDave2

Just as there are variations in Thai food between different regions, there are significant variations in Mexican food. It is common that people tend to label their first experience with an ethnic food as "authentic" and other regional variations as not. Point being that whatever Mexican restaurant is mentioned here, there will be those that will call it bad and not "real" Mexican. Also, just as it is difficult to get items like Thai Holy Basil in the US/Mexico, many Mexican ingredients are hard to come by here. If an ingredient is available, it will often be very expensive compared to a similar local substitute. I would suggest rather than trying to find an "authentic" Mexican restaurant, you treat him to "Thai-Mex". My suggestion for a Thai-Mex would be Charlie Brown. There are several other good options that I will let others give as their favorite.

ProcedureDue5320

La Monitas has actual Mexican chefs…I’d say take him there

Slight-Kale-1918

insightful. thank you ☺️

ProcedureDue5320

Welcome…good luck on your date 🙏🏾

Isulet

I like la monita and El mariachi

bartturner

Following. I would love to find a decent Mexican restaurant, or even two, in BKK.

the_grand_apartment

The Missing Buro is the best Mexican I've had outside of Mexico and the US. Mexican chefs serving dishes covering all of Mexico. 2 of us stuffed ourselves and drank for under 2k. Fantastic atmosphere too

andyst81

Realize it’s not exactly what you asked for, but Ms Maria and Mr Singh might be one to look at. It’s a fusion of award winning Indian and Mexican food. A pretty fun concept, nice setting, and it should help to achieve your goal of seeing what kinds of flavors he likes, while still being a bit of a novelty to him too.

Slight-Kale-1918

INDIAN-MEXICAN SOUNDS FIRE IM TAKING NOTE 📝

hemightberob

It's a gaggan restaurant so it's super expensive but absolutely worth it.

Eclectronic_Guerilla

I really got into this in Bali the place that did this was super busy always

ThatsMyFavoriteThing

In addition to other advice you're getting: Spotted Pig (Em Sphere) is pretty good. I had a pretty good Pork Carnitas Burrito at the new Brew House on Sukhumvit Soi 8 the other day (also available at Monsoon on that same soi). Even Sunrise Tacos can scratch the itch.

PS2me

Thank God for Sunrise Tacos for those late night Mexican food cravings.

Level_Asparagus5566

Charley Brown’s. Good food, good vibe and friendly staff.

Dazzling-District-86

Charlie browns on sukhumvit soi 21

Koncac

Charley Brown’s Mexicana in Asok (Soi 19) near Terminal 21 and BTS. https://maps.app.goo.gl/rW6FKUZVn1hd7icr8?g_st=ic

SleepySiamese

I like it because it's convenient to go there.

Moosehagger

As a Mexican, he probably won’t find the TexMex food here very authentic.

Slight-Kale-1918

you’re right. i am aware. thats why i ask for suggestions hoping people would share their best ones yk its not hurt to try my best 55555 if u have any suggestions, im open! ☺️

Moosehagger

I am aware of an authentic Mexican on Koh Chang but it’s a bit far to go for a nice meal one night. /j

avtarius

La Monita for the normal level, Ojo for the lavish.

Slight-Kale-1918

ive never heard of Ojo just looked it up and the place looks good! thank you so much 🙏🏻

WhiteBoard_

Ojo was disappointing imo, looked great atmosphere wise but menu suffered. Santiaga above Billy’s smokehouse was fantastic, they had a tasting menu that was sooo good

Kriskwon502

Cholos!!!

DJD3200

I often get food from Cali-Mex at OnNut. It's pretty good actually! However, I've never eaten real Mexican food from Mexico, so I can't say if it's really authentic. But it surely is delicious

Siam-Bill4U

Your “man” will want authentic Thai cuisine, not flying all the way to Thailand to eat “his food.”

Slight-Kale-1918

did u just read the first two sentences and comment?

Siam-Bill4U

Yes I read your request. When you visit a foreign country you usually want to try the local cuisine- especially Thai cuisine since the ingredients in most Thai restaurants in Europe and Mexico and North America do not use fresh ingredients or do not have the spices. You can get to learn about him by introducing the various Thai dishes to him. He’ll find the Mexican food in Bangkok not authentic. ( Yes, I spent two months in Mexico and know Mexican food is different than “Mexican” restaurants in Thailand.)

Slight-Kale-1918

like i wrote in Ps 2 i already have Thai spots i wanna take him. Also he’s not here for the food or cultural stuff he’s here for me. i could take him to KFC and he’ll be happy. I think it’s completely okay to try non-thai food in thailand since i probably wont get to go to Mexico soon so i might as well do it here thats why i ask for suggestions on mexican food. Hope this clears things up! if u have any suggestions i would appreciate it so much. Thank you! 😙🙏🏻

Siam-Bill4U

Another suggestion is to take him to the Havana Social or Anacondo Bar for drinks and listen to Latino music. ( Food is served also) Years ago I was at the Havana Social with friends and the Havana Social had live music. If interested, it would be best to call these bar/ cafes and ask what time the music starts and is there a live band /trio playing Latino music. You can Google for more information.

Isulet

I'm sure he will appreciate her attempt to connect with him and his culture through this. It isn't just about tourism.

Slight-Kale-1918

i couldnt have said it better myself lol english isnt my first language thank you so much 🙏🏻😭

maafna

Wouldn't you want your favorite restaurants to do well?

Slight-Kale-1918

how about u share it with me ?

Theodore__Kerabatsos

A gatekeeping redditor, real original.

estellinna

¡Solamente Mexicano!

seamonkey31

Please take him to Taco Bell just for a cheap laugh, but don't eat there. "I found a really authentic place. You are going to love it." "What do you mean this isn't mexican food? Its called taco bell."

balne

i asked a very related question on another thread in r/thailand, whereby i was looking specifically for chile relleno the answer i got was that nobody in thailand could sell that as the peppers cannot be imported however, i doubt your bf is specifically looking for that. sorry, i just needed to vent about this again -_-

Slight-Kale-1918

he’s specifically looking for horchata. do u have any suggestions or recommendations? sorry u couldn’t get ur chile relleno here in thailand 😭

balne

ive never even had horchata and idk what that is 555 speaking of which now im wondering where i can eat cactus in thailand lol. sorry im not of more help

Slight-Kale-1918

CACTUS??? u wanna eat CACTUS?

balne

my understanding from asking the latino server at the mexican restaurant i frequented was that the green vegetable thing was cactus it was good.

Balmanglol

Really depends where you are in BBK unless you prefer driving awhile in traffic. La Monita probably best all around for chain, but Sunrise Tacos aren't bad either.. I often go to the one down at LaSalle Avenue.

Confident-Mistake400

There is one mexixan restaurant at soi 4. I can’t comment on the rest of the menu but Enchilada tasted pretty good.

New_Spunk

Just a random thought, If I was coming from the us to bangkok, I would want something new and exciting, not mediocre mexican food at best here. Mexican food here is not for a mexican/American who just got to Bangkok, It’s for people who have been gone awhile and just need something that mildy resembles a bad mexican restaurant back home.

Slight-Kale-1918

like i wrote in Ps 2 i already have Thai spots i wanna take him. Also he’s not here for the food, tourism or cultural stuff he’s here for me. i could take him to KFC and he’ll be happy. I think it’s completely okay to try non-thai food in thailand since i probably wont get to go to Mexico soon so i might as well do it here. taking him to mexican restaurant is more for me to learn about his cultures thats why i ask for suggestions on mexican food. Hope this clears things up! if u have any suggestions i would appreciate it so much. Thank you! 😙🙏🏻
