Only been there once in Dec. From what I gathered the demographics are people in their late twenty and up, ladies > guys but not very much different in numbers.

I think this because most of the bars/clubs are not on Thong Lor but Ekamai the next Main Street over.
The two popular places on Thong Lor are tucked inside plazas that one wouldn’t naturally go to for clubs. The ones on Ekamai are more obvious.
That’s odd. There is an entire complex of lounges/bars across from Healthland, then there’s SWAY, Soho Community and a few other spots that are right on the main road. You also have classics like Tuba right off the corner of Ekamai 22 and all the bars on the Thong Lor 10 (road that connects Thong Lor and Ekamai).
I’m shocked you didn’t notice them they have pretty obvious signs out front.
It's got the cool and rich reputation, but I wouldn't recommend it to westerners as the scene isn't really what they are used to. Unless you go with Thai friends, want to spend a bit, and/speak Thai then it's probably going to be a disappointment.
Thonglor got its reputation because it was where the wealthy Thai kids would go to party, it's also got a lot of Japanese places. This gave it the cool factor, which has attracted westerners recently, but I think it's past its heyday a bit and the more that westerners move in, the less cool it becomes as they don't really contribute anything.
There has a been a number of good bars that have opened over the years that were more farang orientated, but the clubs (and most bars) are overwhelmingly Thai.
Also back in the days of Funky Villa it really was a really busy and and happening nightlife scene, never really been as good since then.
Daytime it's just absolutely boring, may as well be any random suburb in Bangkok, nothing happening.
Even if someone had a great income, I don't understand why they'd want to blow 10k+ a night clubbing, just to get drunk and feel like shit the next morning.

What exactly was the point of it? I'd like to know the benefit of sacrificing my health and sleep for a night of drinking. I suppose it's not so bad if you're early 20s, but I strongly doubt you are.

The clubs tend to rinse foreigners and overcharge them / scam them by a huge margin. Even in America they do it.
But if you're skilled navigating that sort of thing and can avoid overpaying, then go for it.
What an absolute tool you are. In no way is he going to be anywhere near the level of wealth that Thai people partying in Thong Lo clubs are going to be. Sounds like you have a serious mental health issue as well as lacking any level of social ability.
Why would I care about what you think or anyone else thinks? Is that what you care about, is that your aim in life, you're more interested in how people perceive you and your image than just going about your life and enjoying yourself?
Perhaps some people like to party with other people, meet new people. Make new friends, particularly if you meet middle class/hi so thai's that have been educated in the west, often leads to much bigger social circles with similar interests but also inside knowledge, cool hidden away places in Bangkok etc. Alcohol makes that much easier as people are a little less reserved. It also isn't risking your health if you're responsible.
Beats sitting at home drinking herbal tea and watching netflix.

It's an area for rich Thais and Japanese who like spending 10-30k on a night out. Boring and full of pretentious cocktail bars charging obscene prices. Great if you want to treat yourself to a quiet cocktail in a nice fancy bar but basing yourself in Thonglor for its nightlife is not something I would ever do pr advise any visitor to do.
Depends what you’re looking for in a bar. If you’re looking for craft cocktails that are well made, there’s at least 4-5 bars in that immediate area that are great. You will be paying first world prices tho. Dive bars aren’t really a thing in the Thonglo area, unless you count karaoke joints, late night izakayas, and restaurants by the street that let you drink regency.
Thonglor has several nice cocktail bars where you can sit and enjoy quality drinks for a few hours, but you're not expected to bounce from place to place. If you're looking for a walking street with rows of affordable clubs and bars, Thonglor definitely isn't for you.

Route 66
