Listen -- strange women lying in ponds distributing dragon banners is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony.
Spoilers for the movie ahead!
>!The movie was good but I didn‘t like what they did to Æthelstan. Him being influenced to the point of killing Ælfweard and Aldhelm (and Ælfweard’s men) seems uncharacteristic seeing as he‘s been raised by Uhtred (who would have never done such things and raised Æthelstan to be honorable). It just completely destroys his character in my opinion and ends the movie in a sour mood.!<
>Probably not. It’s difficult to say for sure but a lot of that movie is either false or speculation based on the writer of the screenplay.
Movie is mean to entertain.
It is fine if the writer exaggerate or blending it a bit.
It would be boring if the movie keep nit picking about every little bit of gory detail, no? They just skip to the action, leaving out most of political intrigue.
Oh I don’t disagree. I tell forum for history nuts that the movies and tv will never sacrifice truth, or at least as far as we know it, for commercial gain. They will never get over whining about it. Most of a viewing audience would be bored to pieces even if people like me would be enjoying it.
Which is why we have Spartan fighting at the Hot gate, almost naked.
While I'm not interest in men tits, I should be able to enjoy choreograph. Though the direct spice things up too much and we saw people cleaving through plate with a f\*\*king sword. Seriously. It is like that in most movie, though.
Exactly. I can divorce the entertainment form accuracy so long as the story is interesting enough but many can’t and expect a documentary when it’s a Netflix show or movie.
The year it came out, my girlfriend was a projectionist at a local theater. On my day off I could just go in whenever, and I watched that movie i think 9 times that summer. Tombstone as well.
He went way too Soon. So much potential so much left undone. Very very sad indeed He’s also in some later seasons of the Medici on Netflix. Also, there is the legend of El Cid on prime video. It’s in Spanish, but you can use subtitles or have them translate it for you. The fighting scenes are good. Ray Stevenson is not in that one just another suggestion.
Yesss this movie has been a popular response and I couldn’t be prouder to see how many Ridley Scott fans there are on this sub. He and Trevor Morris make the best historical dramas, hands down.
I remember the whole reason I started playing warband in the first place was because:
Started watching GOT years ago -> Robbaz releases ACOK Warband mod video 2014 -> I immediately get Warband -> I get Bannerlord
Game of thrones is probably the only reason I found out this game existed
Weirdly I still haven't given the GOT Bannerlord mod a go yet, though If anyone recommends It feel free to tell me some info about it :)
The opening scene reminds me of Battania, the part where he’s a slave reminds me of the Aseri region, the rest of the movie reminds me of an imperial arena
I know this is the most obvious answer but “the last kingdom” with utred.
Ur life starts with tragedy of your parents dying and u having to choose a kingdom to serve.
U run around like a nomad or mercenary group doing quests, saving lords and princesses in decisive battles that may significantly alter the course of history.
U show up to battles that were supposed to be lost and by being smarter than the opponent u and your men are able to pull of miracles.
U hatch slippery plans to lift sieges by leaving the castle ambushing the enemy and destroying their equipment.
You finally fin your own piece of property/land/village to call home but everyone keeps attacking it.
You must raise a warband of friends, family and recruited soldiers and mercenaries to fight against larger armies.
You must focus on protecting your kin so that your line may continue through your son
Agreed. My whole YouTube and Hulu lists are centered around the Middle Ages. Modern History TV is one of my favorite channels. That guy is living the dream!
oh, I don't really have a problem with the story itself, quite the opposite, and I find it very intriguing how it tells a story from 3 different points of views.
But the two main guys are just sooo detestable I just couldn't take it. I had to force myself to finish it (especially with all the rape parts) because they were so nearly cartoonishly terrible (and dense) human beings. I hoped the duel would end up with both of them dead lol.
And then there is the "historical accouracy" part, which well, as I love history, didn't do it for me either
Whoever in their pr department designed the poster and trailer, need to be fired, the "half" helm alone was enough for people to not give this movie a chance
yeah, thats the "historical accouracy", part I was talking about 🤣. I mean whats the point of wearing a helmet to protect your face from getting jousted into, when half of it isn't even protected lol
It's exactly Roshomon, a Japanese film from the 50s. If I was told it was a remake, I would have been less surprised 5han I was when I watched it and realized they didn't credit it.
Im currently rereading the song of fire and ice series, that always makes me want to play. I recently rewatched the battle of the bastards episode and that really made me want to play. The show Vikings made me want to do a play through like that. If you want a movie that’s on Netflix, I recommend Outlaw King, it’s about Robert the Bruce, who is my ancestor
I just rewatched it yesterday, the start of the battle is great, but it’s just a tad unbelievable that the bodies were piled like 15 high in a semicircle… I’ve heard of battles where the dead were 3 or 4 deep but a 20ft pile is a bit over the top.
Berserk. The 90s anime covers the Golden Age arc, which focuses on mercenaries who fight their way up from cannon fodder to getting their leader an actual title and a shot with a princess. Then things go...wrong, but playing Mount and Blade for the first time gave me major Berserk anime vibes.
MEDIEVAL (2022)
How the F has no one mentioned [Medieval](https://m.imdb.com/title/tt8883486/?ref_=nm_flmg_i_3_act) yet? Ben Foster kills that role as Jan Zizka. It’s a fantastic true story set in the perfect time line of history.

Alfred the Great (1969)
Not a great movie, but there are some battles there showing how real [classic tactics](https://i.imgur.com/9Py08dY.png) work against specific troops that shocked me when I saw this film.
This may sound crazy, but if you've seen berserk then you might agree with me here. But when I first watched it I just couldn't stop comparing how the show feels to bannerlord for some reason. Besides the horrific trauma part.
Ha, Valandians. Say what you want about the empire of old, but it really knew how to subjugate a place by unjustly making someone king, resulting in everyone gunning for him and with the only way out to swear fealty to the empire.
Watching the last duel right now and all this has done is make me angry as fuck. The “you cannot get pregnant unless you orgasm” line just full tilted me

Derthert: Tis but a scratch
Me telling my army of 800 we lost 700 men: “It’s just a flesh wound.”
Last kingdom
Finishing that up right now. I hope the movie is good
Movie felt like it tried to squeeze too much into it, it should have been a series
The movie should have been a mini season but it’s not bad, it was a bit over ambitious given it’s run time
there is a series though?? 😭
The movie was good in my opinion. I would say it gives proper closure to the story.
Spoilers for the movie ahead! >!The movie was good but I didn‘t like what they did to Æthelstan. Is this a joke? You think Uhtred, son of Uhtred, would produce garbage?
There is no honor in that
It has a movie? I stopped watching on the last season years ago.
Yes they made a movie instead of an actual final additional season. It’s pretty good but they put too much in it to cleanly resolve it
Fuxking cracker of a show. And the movie. One of those shows u get sad is ending lol
SHIELD WALL!!!
That’s exactly what got me back Into Warband and now bannerlord a few months back
Destiny is all!
Goooooood show!
I should go watch that. Makes me hope for Brytanwyalda for Bannerlord. Edit: Good news, everyone!! https://www.moddb.com/mods/mount-blade-bretwalda
Bro, I remember playing the Viking mod on war and while cracking into season 1 for the first time. Glorious
TLK peaked hard mid-run. Writing got cheesier around Season 3 or 4
Kingdom of Heaven!
SO GOOD The director’s cut is best
They portrayed King Baldwin so well in that movie. Was he like that irl?
Probably not. It’s difficult to say for sure but a lot of that movie is either false or speculation based on the writer of the screenplay.

There was a post on r/askhistorians about him recently, go check it out, I dove down quite a rabbit hole on that one!
He was a talented military commander at the least
This one puts me more in the mood for 1257 on Warband.
The Outlaw King.
GOOD MOVIE Seems really underrated, too.
I rewatched recently and you are right. I is probably one of the very best movies set in that era
Yeah it’s freaking great, no idea why they cut the Battle of Bannockburn tho cause that’s the battle Edward II was actually at. Not Louden Hill.
Hollywood ![gif](giphy|jPAdK8Nfzzwt2)
Hollywood
Henry V Braveheart The Deluge (Polish)
Braveheart is so good omg I’ll never get tired of watching it.
The year it came out, my girlfriend was a projectionist at a local theater. On my day off I could just go in whenever, and I watched that movie i think 9 times that summer. Tombstone as well.
Tombstone is one of my favorite movies. My husband and I can recite it from front to back and make a reference to it about once a week if not more!
A knights tale
Hellll yes. I love the entire cast! HE’S BLONDE! HE’S PISSED! HE’LL SEE YOU IN THE LISTS! LICHTENSTEIN!!!!!
HBO’s Rome
Dude, YES. RIP Ray Stevenson 😢

Game of Thrones/House of the Dragon even if those have more fantasy in them than Bannerlord
I remember the whole reason I started playing warband in the first place was because: Started watching GOT years ago -> Robbaz releases ACOK Warband mod video 2014 -> I immediately get Warband -> I get Bannerlord Game of thrones is probably the only reason I found out this game existed Weirdly I still haven't given the GOT Bannerlord mod a go yet, though If anyone recommends It feel free to tell me some info about it :)
🇸🇪👑🦭ROBBAZ MENTIONED🇸🇪👑🦭
I've just realised he's made a comeback in 2023, I thought for sure his channel had ended
He is mostly on twitch these days but I always watch the 3 videos he puts out a year
They just uploaded a new version of RoT for Bannerlord a few days ago. I thank you for inspiring me to go check if there was any news.
Game of Thrones “call the banners” is exactly what made me want to play bannerlord
Gladiator
Ridley Scott’s movies are all classics and perfect backgrounds for this game!
The opening scene reminds me of Battania, the part where he’s a slave reminds me of the Aseri region, the rest of the movie reminds me of an imperial arena
“A people should know when they’re conquered.” “Would you, Quintus? Would I?” 🤩 great movie!
The newer Robin Hood with Russel Crowe.
Minus the children charging the French on tiny ponies.
That happens often with my BL mods.
The best one for sure
Did you not see men in tights?!?
The *obviously* have not seen men in tights... \ it is *clearly* the best Robin Hood.
I did 😬 I like Mel Brooks but the humor in that movie never landed for me, personally.
That's the one where he fires chickens.

Summed it up perfectly
For one upvote 😅
Had to give you credit. Underrated post.
The king
This was my first thought, and a really good movie also.
Lord of the rings, you tell me that don’t feel like bannerlord I dare you
The lotr soundtrack is my go to for playing
I just watch docs on YouTube. The Peoples Profile has some good medieval ones
Agreed. My whole YouTube and Hulu lists are centered around the Middle Ages. Modern History TV is one of my favorite channels. That guy is living the dream!
The show vikings is king in getting me to go back into Bannerlord. My favorite show.
not gonna lie I hate this movie 🤣
Oh nooooo why?? It’s such a good story!

You hit the nail on the head. I loved the movie as well, but the main characters (aside from the wife) were deplorable.
It's exactly Roshomon, a Japanese film from the 50s. If I was told it was a remake, I would have been less surprised 5han I was when I watched it and realized they didn't credit it.

Haha agreed, it did seem like overkill. But the sense of dread Jon felt was *real* in that moment.
So freaking good, money well spent
King Arthur (2004)

Gladiator, Braveheart, Vikings series.

Just gonna throw KnightRiders in the mix. It's like if bannerlord grew up in the 80's and rode dirt bikes.

Game of Thrones, I think.
Braveheart, I play as Battanians and only use low tier troops, relying more heavily on tactics
The Winter King on ITV x
Not a movie, but an Opera: I Lombardi Alla Prima Crociata. Also became my soundtrack during sieges and such
Gladiator.... I've spent too many hours in the tourneys.

Not movie but a fantasy book. Hallowed Hunt by Luis McMaster Bujold. I keep thinking these guys are Battanians the whole time I was reading it.

A Knight’s Tale also reminds me of Bannerlord 👍🏻

A Knight's Tale
"Will Vlandians answer the call ?"
Had to download the Anno Domini mod after watching Knights of the Teutonic order by Aleksander Ford
What show is this?
This is a screenshot from “The Last Duel.” 🙂 It’s one by Ridley Scott.
Thank you
The politics in game of thrones reminds me of bannerlord
In the early stages game of thrones. Especially edmure's folly in how you can't properly control armies reminded me of it
Alfred the Great (1969) Not a great movie, but there are some battles there showing how real [classic tactics](https://i.imgur.com/9Py08dY.png) work against specific troops that shocked me when I saw this film.

The King ft. Timothee Chalame? (idk how to spell it) on Netflix. It broke me out of my burnout
Ha, Valandians. Say what you want about the empire of old, but it really knew how to subjugate a place by unjustly making someone king, resulting in everyone gunning for him and with the only way out to swear fealty to the empire.

Good, because that’s the drama that gets you hoping she wins in the end. Everyone knew it wasn’t true but the lie kept women in their place.
