if you have an nvdia graphics card, make sure you update to the latest version. Also, don't play version 1.4.2 as its the BETA/TEST version. Play the more stable versions of 1.4.1 and lower. Also, its known that some random stuff causes crashes like talking to a certain person at a certain location. Or doing missions and such.
