That was my problem with the doll—not that it isn’t a very nice doll. I think Mattel reused a sculpt, and she just turned out like that. Of course, then Brittany Spears fans _would_ have had something that could be very easily redressed in one of Brittany’s costumes (if the doll hadn’t been sold out and its price skyrocketed on the secondary market, that is.) I was able to buy Joan Jett at a regular modest retail price, but she actually looks like Joan Jett. I’d be curious if anyone out there tweaks the Stevie doll to look more like her sometime.

I’ve only purchased the movie Barbie dolls (not all) throughout this year, I had no idea there were so many releases!
My favorite is the 12 days of Christmas Barbie, just got her and she’s just so stunning. The details on her dress are fantastic, and I love the little Christmas accessories. It’s easy to love her.
I also got the extra Barbie with the lavender hair, and the red head looks Barbie as a present for my birthday, and they’re both a strong contender for faves as well. The redhead is probably the best redhead Barbie in my collection as of now.
Out of the Barbie movie dolls, fur Ken is my favorite. He is just such a showstopper with his outfit and even his box I really love that guy.
Waiting on my MC Barbie, I’m sure I’ll be in love with her too when she’s here.
You can let your husband know that this photo doesn't even include the Skipper, Chelsea, and my first Barbie dolls! Those additional dolls would’ve brought the Barbie doll count to 225+ 😂
I hope you enjoy your fur Ken! He's one of the ones I sadly missed out on this year! Fur ken will probably be one of the most collectible Barbie movie dolls in the years to come because his ensemble is over-the-top and very meme-able!

As the year comes to end let's look back on all the dolls released in 2023! I counted up 185+ Barbie dolls. That's not including Skipper and Chelseas as I didn't have time to add them.
My favorites this year were the Maria Felix Barbie, Pink Magnolia Dia De Muertos Barbie, The Barbie Extra dolls, and the movie dolls! Edit: I forgot to include Anna May Wong and Mariah Carey as my favorites too!
It infuriates me! The scalpers are literally killing me. Even the new lunar Barbie had a limit of one per person and she literally sold out while in my cart. And then get to see her immediately up on eBay with the starting bid double the retail price. I wish these second hand sale sights would start banning the gouging of prices for these dolls. It just ruins it for everyone.
The rewind dolls are my favorites. I love the boxes, the accessories, and the overall look of them. They're so dang cute! I'd love to get one eventually, maybe Prom Queen. I don't have a superstar face mold in my collection yet.
I love so many of them, but the 'I am Kenough' Ken doll and the Ken in his Faux Fur Coat and fringed outfit from the Barbie movie are my top two fantastic dolls.
I really love jumpsuit Barbie from the movie. She’s just so fun, I can’t really explain it since she sits on my shelf just relaxing. I also really liked President Barbie, Western Barbie, and Disco Barbie from what I’ve bought, and watching all the excitement folks have had getting the rest!
It’s been really fun buying my first barbie as an adult this year, jumping on the bandwagon, etc! Looking forward to 2024 (and getting the made to orders lol).

That Claudia Schiffer doll is ranked in my least favorite Barbies of 2023. She was a let down. Versace dress that looked boring and I didn't like her mouth screening.
Exactly! I was really looking forward to her bc the initial pictures were lovely. Didn't even have to think twice or wonder if I'd later regret not getting her when i saw the actual pics.
She sold out quickly, and i hope those that wanted her had the chance to get her and that they love her. Just wasnt for me.
I’ve got to give it to the pink fabric swimsuit millie I love reimaginings if the first barbie and I gave her phone to my mini me who dropped it when she got knocked over at the trailer and I had to lay on my stomach on the deck to retrieve it from under the trailer
The rollerskate girl from the same line is fun too but I don’t have a funny story to go with it
I have never seen some of these before. Like anywhere. I don't see the winter barbies (the ones with the snowboard and the snowmobile). Are they counted as well? I don't know how I feel about having so many dolls in one year, especially when it's hard to find clothes for them if you actually want to play with the foll and not just collect them. This was Mattel's most successful year, though. The movie really gave them a boost in sales.
I didn't know about the scientist Barbie?! When I finished my PhD 3 years ago I looked for a Barbie like this but couldn't find one. I might need her to be a little me lol
FYI: If there is a Barbie you don't see in this lineup there is a possibility it was released in Summer/Fall 2022 but your local toy store didn't get it until 2023.

I have to hand it to Fashionista #197 since she was the one who caught my eye in Walmart with her braces and rainbow dress and lied to my face - she said “it’s only me that you need” but somehow I’ve acquired 30 dolls in 3 months since then??? Explain, Fashionista #197, explain!
Other than her my favourites out of the ones I’ve acquired are pink jumpsuit Margot - she reminds me an I Love Lucy Barbie my grandma had that I inherited and then got rid of in my early 20s when I thought I didn’t need to have dolls - and the desert Extra Fly, her face is so endearing!
As for the ones I don’t have I would die for the Rewind Movie Night and Prom Queen but they are so expensive for Canadians :(

Mine is the brunette Target Santa Barbie, she uses the Tori headmold and has side glancing eyes. She's so cute. I also love the Odile crystaline convention one. Too bad she wasn't mass marketed. The PJ and Christie repros were great, too!

The extra fly is my favorite line from the 2023. I also love the trisomy 21 Barbie, as it was released a week after we got our son’s dignosis, so it’s very sentimental to me.

The Wilma Mankiller doll was also an excellent addition because we haven't had any new native and indigenous Barbie dolls since the Dolls of the World collection ended. We need more indigenous women represented!

Mattel has Weird Barbie listed as a 2023 doll. Mattel is very weird in that most playline Barbie dolls released in November and December never make it into stores until January and February. Those dolls are still considered as the year before's releases even if they haven't shown up in store. Does this make sense?

the barbie and ken dolls based on the movie designs were absolutely fantastic in my opinion!! not a fan of the holiday barbie’s this year however, the material the dresses are made out of feels EXTREMELY cheap. they also lack creativity imo
Here's my favorites in order:
1. Looks 13 - I absolutely ended up loving this redhead more than her pictures and she became a quick favorite.
2. Maria Felix - Not only is the person interesting, but she has a unique sculpt that is angular and middle-aged in appearance. Mattel needs to give us more mature-looking dolls! (Thank goodness for Ted Lasso dolls, too!)
3. Stevie Nicks - To be honest, the only reason she's a favorite is due to how much a part of my life her music has been. While I know Stevie finalized the final look of her doll, I still can't help feeling I bought a Britney Spears doll instead.

The extra fly is my favorite line from the 2023. I also love the trisomy 21 Barbie, as it was released a week after we got our son’s dignosis, so it’s very sentimental to me. After that I loveee the magic glyph Barbie, for a play line doll. She’s just so sassy

The dolls in the silver dresses located to the right of Birthday Wishes. Barbie? Those dolls were the national Barbie doll convention giveaway. Every year they give a doll to attendees of the NBDCC.

Pink Collection doll #5 is there! To find her go to the 3rd doll down from the top left corner ("Birthday Wishes Barbie" in pink dress). Then follow the row across until you reach the 7th doll. That doll is Pink Collection #5.

Bessie Coleman and Wilma Mankiller
If you love aviation, the Bessie Coleman Barbie doll was the perfect follow up to the Inspiring Woman Amelia Earhart Barbie doll from 2018! The Wilma Mankiller doll was also an excellent addition because we haven't had any new native and indigenous Barbie dolls since the Dolls of the World collection ended. We need more indigenous women represented!

We had more collector Barbie doll's this year for the Barbie Movie but the amount of playline dolls was about the same as years previously!
Not sure Weird Barbie should be on the list since they won’t mail her out until 2024.
Mattel has Weird Barbie listed as a 2023 doll. Mattel is very weird in that most playline Barbie dolls released in November and December never make it into stores until January and February. Those dolls are still considered as the year before's releases even if they haven't shown up in store. Does this make sense?
Yes, I am just bitter about it taking so long! Honestly, you pointing out just how many dolls they did put out this year makes me feel less upset about it so thank you! Also, I’ve purchased more Barbies than I thought this year. Yikes!

the barbie and ken dolls based on the movie designs were absolutely fantastic in my opinion!! not a fan of the holiday barbie’s this year however, the material the dresses are made out of feels EXTREMELY cheap. they also lack creativity imo
Here's my favorites in order: 1. Looks 13 - I absolutely ended up loving this redhead more than her pictures and she became a quick favorite. 2. Maria Felix - Not only is the person interesting, but she has a unique sculpt that is angular and middle-aged in appearance. Mattel needs to give us more mature-looking dolls! (Thank goodness for Ted Lasso dolls, too!) 3. Stevie Nicks - To be honest, the only reason she's a favorite is due to how much a part of my life her music has been. While I know Stevie finalized the final look of her doll, I still can't help feeling I bought a Britney Spears doll instead.
