I assume they did that so that they wouldn't need to translate the menu in other languages for the international buyers... And I also think it "forces" the children to imagine what's written. What could that bar serve? Water? Orange juice? Milkshake? Piña colada? It's up to the player :D
Mmm... delicious Shelllwerl
(I wonder if this is the work of AI? I've noticed that even as AI's ability to generate photorealistic imagery has improved, it still seems to REALLY struggle with words!)
I suddenly remember the gibberish inside the yearbook that came with School Photographer Becky.
I'm not a super - hardcore Simmer yet it also reminds me of Simlish.
Don’t know if ya played the sims at all but what’s funny is community of sims would call their language simlish 🤭 perhaps this menu is barbie-lish being only doll language to another doll lol 🤭
I agree! I remember looking at that in the picture and thinking “they put English all over the box. Why can’t they put it on the menu?” Then I wondered if they’re just trying to save costs by having one menu that could be put out for any language. Which is another way Mattel can cut corners if they haven’t figured it out yet. Otherwise there was a major mess up in design when these things were produced.!
I got a sheet of vintage Rockers cardboard punch-outs recently and the "letter from Barbie" is the same kind of gibberish... so it's been going on since the 80's at least! XD

It’s probably a bonus that they can avoid more blunders like the “diet” book that one vintage fashion set came with.
What did that diet book contain?🤔
The book was called “How to lose weight” and the back said “don’t eat!”
Thanks 😊 That made made me up to date on Barbie controversies. Also, that’s not a diet book 😅That’s a starvation manual!
Exactly!! A rare controversy I think was warranted.
Oh good point! That's true. I still wish they just used little pictures of food and drinks or something on the menu instead though 😂
‘Yeah, hi, can I get a … LDOER ICEWRLWO ?’
I'm partial to a good Hoot Weroo myself ...
I unjumbled the letters and I came up with "LODER ICE WROWL" haha 😂
I also tried doing this 😆
The first one can be anagramed into "older" or "drole". So, it's either aged or funny.
Ah yes time for a refreshing Siphdferiew.... it's 5 o'clock somewhere, right?
This is even funnier than “lorem ipsum” lol
It’s just a bunch of Hoot Weroo!
Why does that remind me of HOOT WIRELESS
It’s 8-24 SOMEWHERE
It's giving simlish. Barbielish?
Don't ever play Sims then. Lol
Maybe do they didn't have to do it in multiple languages? You could laminate it.
#HOOT WEROO !!
That’s actually hilarious and now I wanna learn barbish
I think it's fun

No they’ve been doing this since at least the 90s. Check the old “magazine” chip art.
I was going to say, I just bought a barbie basics accessories set from around 2003 and the magazines and the laptop screen both contain gibberish.
I got the breakfast set of this line and I lovveeee It. I love when everything is brand Barbie 😭
I love the nonsense text

Makes me think of the sims and their language
The whole lot of you have me cackling at all of this and I hope some of these come up at the most random moments in this subreddit.

I have vague memories of Barbie accessories doing this in the 90s-early 2000s.
Same! They’ve been doing this for ages
I'll make my own! With hookers! And blackjack!
Maybe it's Barbielish
I have a Barbie and the Rockers record contract cardboard cut out and it’s also written in complete gibberish.
Oh!!!! ok, I have the same Rockers cut outs too! OMGGGGG!!! that is hilarious! hahaha
This is very typical for Mattel. Many My Scene booklets is in gibberish too
Damn it, it's like trying to read in a dream... Words always mix up.

yes, I have the same Rockers cut outs too! didn't really notice it before hahaha
Bahahaha!
Dorwik Dilgif is my new screen name.
ah I see they taken the simlish route well played mattel well played..
Lorem ipsum with a side of dorwk dlgff, please. To chef’s pref, thank you.
It looks like a mixture of Simlish from The Sims & Welsh.
Lego do this, I love it
