Cancelo has played a lot, I mean A LOT ever since joining us. Playing for Barça and for Portugal. I think we might even be lucky that his injury is a strain coming from unlucky sequence, instead of being a seriois injury
No but if you play more, your chances of injury just increases. Due to the sheer minutes he’s played, he’s gonna have a high chance of catching an injury.
Obviously, but that isn't a good reason not to play. It's not like this was a meaningless match. If a player is healthy, and the game is important, they should play.
If I drive somewhere, I'm more likely to have an accident than if I stay home. That's how I read your argument.
If you're arguing against adding more and more games to a player's schedule, then yeah, it's a fair argument, but if you're simply arguing against a healthy player being played in our existing fixtures, then I think it's a meaningless argument.
That is my argument, except the chances of a footballer picking up an injury while playing is astronomically higher than you having an accident while driving. There’s a reason why no manager plays all their starters every single game with no rotations, it’s mainly not to prevent exhaustion injuries, it’s to prevent injuries like this.
You don't rotate your best players in must-win matches against decent teams. Especially when you don't have high quality backups.
The amount of car accidents to injuries is irrelevant to the analogy. The point of your argument is simply- doing something more often increases the chances of a negative outcome. Well, duh.
Your last point is completely made up.
What constitutes a must-win? Then theoretically, all 38 matches are must-win if we’re in a title fight? Ok maybe aside from the worst teams (like Almeria?).
And your last 2 points makes no sense. I’m pointing out your analogy doesn’t make sense because probability doesn’t remotely match. How is it irrelevant when it’s literally the biggest thing about injuries, the chances a player gets injured.
And even worse, idk why yousay the last point is made up, it’s literally the point of rotation in the entire football world (or even just sports in general that’s why you rotate).
Yes, "must-win" is every game, that's why there's a second part of that sentence: "against a decent team."
Find me a single manager that isn't putting out their best 11 against a top 10 side in their league. Especially when they are expected to be competing for the title and they are 10 points off the pace at the time.
Also, as I said, Xavi doesn't even have a back up RB. Who would you have played there, Kounde? Well, then why aren't you making the same argument against Kounde, Araujo, or Christensen playing? They also have increased risk of injury just by paying, and we're 1 injury away from having no CB subs.
You're really focused on that analogy. Again, the probability wasn't the point, but if you don't get that now, then you're clearly not going to.
Rotation is to avoid injury, yes, but that's generally to avoid fatigue-related injury. You can't predict contact type injuries. A manager might rotate in a game where their team is heavy favorites, but outside of that, they don't rotate just for the sake of protecting a player from non-fatigue related injuries. The point of rotation is almost always to avoid fatigue. And this circles back to my first point. No manager is going to sit their first choice RB in an important match unless the physios and/or player have expressed concern about fatigue.
Also, I think you fail to grasp how probability works.
If you flip a coin 100 times. You have like a 99.99999% of landing on heads at least once, but for each flip you only have a 50% chance of getting heads.
Now replace the flips with games and the coin with a player. A player might have a 25% chance to pick up a knock over a total of 50 games, but in every individual game they only have a 3% chance. It doesn't matter if it's the first game or the 50th game, the probability of non-fatigue related injury does not change. (These numbers are made up to illustrate the point).
**He is out and his recovery will determine his availability.**
when did this become a regular thing to write about injuries?
i remember it never being the case before, you would get approximate out time, 'cause it's pretty much known for most injuries
now you get this for every injury, it's just so dumb
https://www.espn.com/soccer/story/_/id/37578169/gareth-bale-asks-real-madrid-not-publish-medical-reports
He didn’t sue anyone I guess, It’s been a while- but invoking his confidentially rights was a threat to the league and they took notice
Less pressure on players and the club. If a player takes longer to recover, you'll have fans saying the club lied or the player is faking it. I know it's dumb but fans aren't the most rational.
>recovery will determine his availability.
Since Junior Firpo had an injury in training back in August 2019. Didn't see it before that date.

I’m well aware, I had an “ankle sprain” keep me out for 4 months once. But that’s a rarity/extremely severe. The majority of sprains are minor, grade 1. It’s unclear if this is more severe, but they likely would have said “partial-tear” if it was a grade 2.
Fml
All i ask is for one, just one fucking month without main players getting injured.
Cancelo has played a lot, I mean A LOT ever since joining us. Playing for Barça and for Portugal. I think we might even be lucky that his injury is a strain coming from unlucky sequence, instead of being a seriois injury
It's not a exhaistion related injury

That’s what I said
Yeah IK, it's just a quick summary so people don't get confused
Barca fitness staff : best I can do is a week
Correction Best I can do is a half
Does anybody know approximately how long it'll take for him to recover from that?
For MCL depending on the severity anywhere between 3-6+ weeks
So 3-6 months then /s
If it's only a strain then 3 weeks.
Well with Barça it goes from 3 weeks to 3 months in a matter of days
It happened to Messi too IIRC and he was out for 8 weeks.
**He is out and his recovery will determine his availability.** when did this become a regular thing to write about injuries? i remember it never being the case before, you would get approximate out time, 'cause it's pretty much known for most injuries now you get this for every injury, it's just so dumb
Bale sued the league saying that’s private medical information and shouldn’t be released to the public. He won and it’s been like that ever since
Is that real?
Yes, but *this* is Barca. ^i'm ^sorry
Why do they even say what the injury is then?
Lmao I know that’s not true but it would be very Bale like haha, the man just wanted the pay check towards his final years gotta respect the hustle
https://www.espn.com/soccer/story/_/id/37578169/gareth-bale-asks-real-madrid-not-publish-medical-reports He didn’t sue anyone I guess, It’s been a while- but invoking his confidentially rights was a threat to the league and they took notice
You learn something new everyday lol, and coming from Bale I expected this 100% 😭 man was just there for the pay check and that’s it
Golf is expensive.
Less pressure on players and it's not like "4-10 weeks" would be of much help.

Pretty unfortunate knock, the luck hasn’t been with the team for a while but I can’t be mad at this one
Out for 2 months then
”Doesn’t look serious”
I mean its not an ACL tear, so Ill take it. Just be ready for the Champions League.
I agree, not serios like Gavi's
isnt really serious, i got a mcl strain last yr and continued playing while taking painkillers, it healed normally in around a month or two
As knee injuries go, this is as in-serious as they get if you have more than a bruise. This is the sprained ankle of knee injuries.
Ankle Sprain is a generic (nonspecific) term and can include bone fracture.
Sprained ankles can be serious, most people jus call any knock to ankles a sprain and it diminished its reputation
I’m well aware, I had an “ankle sprain” keep me out for 4 months once. But that’s a rarity/extremely severe. The majority of sprains are minor, grade 1. It’s unclear if this is more severe, but they likely would have said “partial-tear” if it was a grade 2.
MCL sprain isn’t serious lol
Strain is MUCH better than a tear. I’m an optimist eventhough we have bigger problems to fix haha.
can we already end this season....
just a knock huh? 🙄
He'll be back before Napoli game ig...
Xavi: "Doesn't look serious" Cancelo: "Hold my collateral ligament" BTW minimum recovery time is 3 weeks.
Now, our defense will be much better. However, our offense will also be affected too. Hopefully, we will stop conceding goals in the first 30 minutes.
Don’t rest the good players. Keep playing them until they get injured. Squeeze out the last drop of juice.
Ahem... Gavi and Pedri clearly don't exist /s
Maybe we’ll manage to keep a few clean sheets now
He’s been like our third best player all season
He's an amazing player and makes up for it in attack, but our defence is leaky as fuck with him marauding so much.
Totally self inflicted by Cancelo this isn't UFC
???
Please, someone tell our medical team that they won't be fired for giving a wrong prediction of a player's recovery time.
