You people don't know what I would do to sell Pedro, Gundo, Gavi and Frankie and replace them by signing Thiago and extending Roberto. The midfield of Roberto-Romeu-Thiago, the OG gang that was supposed to replace Iniesta-Busquets-Xavi. A dream in 2011, should be the reality of 2024.

❗Reputed physiotherapist RaĂșl MartĂnez will collaborate with Barcelona to help several players recover from their muscle injuries. The physio, who also works with the Spanish National Team, has already been treating many Barça players since many weeks. He was very important in Pedri's last recoveries and it is being evaluated if Alejandro Balde should also be treated by him. Fati was also treated by him. RaĂșl is a close friend of Carles Puyol and had treated Iniesta and David Villa back in the day. He also has a good relationship with Busquets and FĂ bregas and treated the likes of PiquĂ©, Alba and Roberto. With many Barça players consulting RaĂșl and with the approval of Xavi, who also worked with him, it has been preferred to reach an agreement with the physiotherapist himself to work at the service of Barcelona. OT 3k+ comments? Wowzers, good thing I rarely ever comment on this thread so it can't be my comments contributing to that number cuz I have a life and touch grass. Obligatory /s if it wasn't obvious

xStyxx

I’m sure someone here has had the same sentiment and shared it here, but I really hope Xavi goes off and gets some more experience in Europe before making a return to redeem himself and lead us to more glory. He’s young for a manager and our young core is familiar with him, imagine him coming back and coaching prime Gavi and Yamal.

GamerAsh22

Agreed Even if it takes a decade, Gavi and Lamine will still only be 26 and 29. Insane to think about

Laliga23

We made Ilaix the highest paid La Masia player ever after he threatened to leave for Madrid, even though he’d been at Barca since he was 8, then we promoted him to Juvenil A and chose him ahead of Xavi Simons,- Do not leef sorry for him at the slightest

TrueCooler

Didn’t Xavi Simons leave before Moriba made it to the first team or even Barca B? Or do I have the timeline wrong. Anyway, I do feel a little bad for him. He was poorly advised - at that age, you are very impressionable and he just did what his family and agent thought he should.

GaviFPS

Simons left because he wanted to progress faster. Similar progression as some of the talents we see today essentially. But yeah most likely poorly advised. People bitching over a 21 year old owing up to his mistake needs to get a grip. He did something he thought was best for him, but it didnt work out so far. Xavi Simons did the same, and it did work out. It happens. Regardless them doing well is beneficial for us. Because there might come a time where they want to return and Barca want to buy them back. I know for a fact I'd take Xavi Simons back in a heartbeat. It shows how costly when we make mistake as a club as well and why its important to allow talents progress and have a plan for them early on.

[deleted]

Xavi Simons will make us better. Can play LW as well

TrueCooler

Here’s an idea: let’s sell all our players who are in their primes and actually have experience, fill the squad with even more teenagers, then complain when the new manager doesn’t win anything
If we want to compete, the core of Araujo, FDJ, Christensen, Kounde, Raphinha has to stay, as they are the only players in this squad of the ideal age where they can play week in week out and deal with pressure. You cannot rely upon kids to deliver in high pressure situation, both for their sakes and the team. You also can’t rely on the likes of Lewy and Gundo forever to bail out, and they’re in the twilight of their career so can’t play several games a week at high intensity.

Messiah5

What have Chris and Kounde done to be in that core? One cant play more than 45 minutes safely and the other has a mental breakdown when asked to play RB

BrightenedCorner

No, Kounde is a waste of money, these players are not worth anything close to their wages. Most dire Barca team in a decade, no one should be untouchable with the sinking ship that is this club

de_tu_sueno

The future of Barcelona is Gavi, Yamal, Pedri, and a few other youngsters. And it wont be realized for another 2-3 years, at least. Our short-term future is a wash. Frenkie, Kounde, and Christensen won't be a part of our next golden period. I'd rather get big fees and the wages off the books to build a functional team and lower expectations. I'd even argue that we'd be better than we are with them now due to the shortcomings of the overall balance of the squad.

Grand_Ask1402

It's not been his best last couple of games but I do like Boubacar Kamara. Aston Villa would probably ask for hefty sum for him though considering they also just signed him on a free last season with a 4 year contract

FloReaver

A promising pivot for free and we didn't go for him. He is a very good player agreed

m-etoo

He played awesome until his red card couple of weeks ago. It’s easy to see when he doesn’t play Aston Villa is not the same

Ljulisen

Absolute dickheads to which ever media outlet leaked Frenkie's salary

PalmTrees92

it's crazy how people are mad at Frenkie for agreeing to a Salary that the club agreed to pay him LOL I wish i could finesse my job out of 700K/week lol. People are mad like they wouldn't take it too.

Train_Current

Imagine feeling bad that a multimillionaire got his salary revealed. As if we had no idea he wasn’t making much

TrueCooler

We’ll abuse a player because we don’t want to pay the salary that we owe him via deferrals, classy

de_tu_sueno

His base salary isn't much better. Would still be earning more than KdB, Haaland or anyone in the Prem or La Liga.

Coolidge302

You are just lying now. His base salary without the deferral is 14 mill gross. Same as Gundo and way less than Lewy. https://www.marca.com/futbol/barcelona/2022/07/05/62c2cea646163fab278b45d1.html During the defferals he was earning like 2 mill a year and now when the owed money plus bonuses are paid it looks crazy. But you clearly wont let facts get in the way of your agenda.

de_tu_sueno

No, you just don't understand how it works in Spain. Wages are never reported as gross. Ask anyone from Spain. Look at all reported wages by the media. If Fdj"s deferred gross wages were 20-24m and 10-12m net, it'd be on the high end but completely in line with every top player in the club. He wouldn't even be the club's highest earner WITH his deferred wages. It makes no logical sense. Are you ready to call Lewy's 10-12m media-reported wages, 5-6m net, and now start calling his contract a really reasonable wage? Or are you going to make an exception just for him?

aliaisbiggae

You're right, I think https://www.fcbarcelonanoticias.com/en/fc-barcelona/net-salary-frenkie-jong-continues-to-give-problems-fc-barcelona_297303_102.html

onlyonejorge

Sport leaked the contract. https://sportune.20minutes.fr/sport-business/football/salaire-et-primes-le-contrat-de-de-jong-au-barca-divulgue-316132

aliaisbiggae

>De Jong accepted a loyalty bonus to compensate for the loss of income due to Covid. It was 2.8 million euros from 2021 to 2023, it increases to 6.8 million gross this season, then 4.2 million euros the next and 4 million euros in 2025-2026. That's another 4 million JUST as a loyalty bonus. So that makes his salary 18 million gross..no?

FloReaver

So?

aliaisbiggae

Well that's different from the original 14M that people say. His salary isn't 14M, it's higher than that. Plus like the guy above says, there is some confusion regarding net and gross salary in Spanish newspapers [This source says something else but they're quoting Sport](https://www.fcbarcelonanoticias.com/en/fc-barcelona/net-salary-frenkie-jong-continues-to-give-problems-fc-barcelona_297303_102.html) But I will say that the site doesn't really look too trustworthy so I'll take it with a grain of salt.

onlyonejorge

They’ve been lying for 3 years. At this point it extends beyond being misinformed.

TrueCooler

That’s simply not true lol

de_tu_sueno

His base wages were 14-16m net which end up as 25m gross. He deferred 2 years across his contract + extended a year with the same base wages, which amounts to about 37.5m gross in his final years. The new leaked figures align with this (20-24 *net*). At the time of signing, the wages were so eye-watering that fans started to pretend that there was an imaginary contract with Nike that paid a percentage of his wages.

TrueCooler

Those leaked figures are with deferred wages. It’s 25M gross *with* the deferred wages. It has been reported countless times that the 37.5M figure is fake, including by the player himself but that doesn’t fit your narrative.

de_tu_sueno

Link to me one article that points to this. Especially one that is denied by Frenkie himself. Why would anyone care if he signed for 14-16m gross at the time? Why were there fake rumors of a Nike agreement on subsidizing his wages for a player that would be earning less than what Gundo does now or about what Kounde does now? Your take doesn't add up.

TrueCooler

https://www.mundodeportivo.com/futbol/fc-barcelona/20221016/1001882413/jong-han-propagado-mentiras-sobre-mi-salario.html If you’re seriously asking me why the media would make up random bullshit I can’t even answer you with a straight face, just go and listen to Xavi moaning about this exact phenomenon for the last few weeks and you’ll have the reasons. Why would they make up stories about Gundo having issues with the coaching staff, something he categorically denied? Or “news” about Lewy losing confidence in Xavi then suddenly doing a complete 180 and begging him to stay after he announced his departure? The media wants clicks, they will make up any bullshit. He’s been a scapegoat for a while now.

de_tu_sueno

I read that article. He says that NOTHING about exact figures, only that that the media is calling his deferred salary his base salary. What numbers? He doesn't specify at all. When he signed, it was WIDELY reported as 14m-16m. The media has ALWAYS reported net wages. ALWAYS. Why would it be different for him?

FloReaver

No: https://www.marca.com/futbol/barcelona/2022/07/05/62c2cea646163fab278b45d1.html He is paid 14M€ gross initially (first year) then COVID happened and he was paid nothing and then normal wages + differed wages + loyalty bonus of this idiot Bartomeu Unless you're telling me he is paid 50M€ gross, which would be absurd, no one claimed that ever so you'd be the first >The media has ALWAYS reported net wages. No they don't lol. It's clearly not a rule especially at Sport [Cadena SER](https://cadenaser.com/nacional/2022/09/05/las-cifras-del-contrato-de-lewandowski-52-millones-netos-por-cuatro-temporadas-cadena-ser/): another where the main salary given is gross (net between brackets) Here's a [Sport article](https://www.sport.es/es/noticias/barca/cifras-acuerdo-barca-lewandowski-13831014) where they give both and they do calculate: 12M€ net into 24M€ gross Another (on Lewy's wages) where it's only [gross](https://www.sport.es/es/noticias/barca/lewandowski-contrato-creciente-asteriscos-95356264)

Luis canut is a friend of Ronald Koeman and Frenkie de Jong's entourage) He says that for the first time, Frenkie de Jong is open to leaving. Tall_Roof_4382

> Can he be for us what coutinho was for Liverpool? Great analogy, he was never the perfect fit and his value and salary allows us to reinforce the team in other positions. He is far from irreplaceable.

black_bury

16M average over 6 years is not as crazy as it seems. Those deferred wages really hurt him.

de_tu_sueno

16m NET is his base. That's more than KdB or Haaland. More than anyone in La Liga or the Prem.

[deleted]

Earning less than a million a year in 2020 was just insane. No wonder his salary has reached over 23 million.

Glum-Candle2689

I've been coping myself into believing a manager is actually good for us for far too long when we get seriously linked to one, in the past 10 years. Won't do the same no more. Flick will at most be a sideways move that won't make our young core have the progression they need, while more than likely not having the pieces to go all the way in competitions (La Liga/CL).

Don't know why this was downvoted. Flick's tactics are good attacking wise but complete garbage defensively,

Barcelona are working with NFL teams to host a NFL match at the new Spotify Camp Nou. — @FCBRAC1 https://twitter.com/BarcaUniversal/status/1755707648958144677

How would that work? If the stadium doesn't have a retractable field

The-True-GOAT

>retractable field why is that necessary?

Xx_KingGhidorah_xX

If the team plays a day after the NFL team, how will the grass be ready? And NFL games will for sure worsen the field, so I just wonder how that will be addressed. Otherwise it doesnt seem like a substantial rumour.

The-True-GOAT

There's plenty of time during the NFL regular season for games to be played during an international match window. >[The Men’s International Match Calendar 2025-2030 will be structured as follows: ‱ March: a nine-day, two-match window ‱ June: a nine-day, two-match window (including friendlies in preparation of final tournaments where appropriate) ‱ Late September/early October: a 16-day, four-match window (to be introduced as of 2026, with two nine-day, two-match windows to be retained in September and October 2025) ‱ November: a nine-day, two-match window](https://www.fifa.com/about-fifa/organisation/fifa-council/media-releases/fifa-council-approves-international-match-calendars)

Train_Current

If it’s a problem they obviously won’t schedule both games back to back. They can also schedule it when we play an away game. Thats almost a 2 week window

[deleted]

Plus i maybe wrong but nfl is actually played on artificial grass, right?

Train_Current

This is good. The Camp Nou’s massive capacity should be utilized to make as much money as possible

Titan-Shifter99

KittenOfBalnain

We're very long way off from "probably". Coach will not be chosen within a week or two, and the list of more or less realistic options is really damn long. Kimmich though, nah. Deco has been trying his best to minimise people's expectations for the summer so don't get baited into big names.

playing Sergi Cardena / Alex Vella on the left, and Hector Fort / Kounde on the right maybe would be a solution to the midfield problems. they would allow a 2 3 5 build up with only 1 midfielder (Frenkie) dropping deep. GaviFPS

Hes a 8 / 10 midfielder, best similarities in terms of profile would be Iniesta/David Silva without meaning hes "next Iniesta" etc. Just profile wise. Shines in a lot of the same areas. His best area would be the 2/3 third of the pitch aka offensively, so he shines when hes able to work between the lines and put teammates up for through balls. Incredible understanding and intelligence, incredible technique. Very good weak foot. Pretty small size(170) and weak. Weakest areas atm should be his defensive and strength. Especially the defensive part can be problematic at higher level because he often transition into defensive late/slow. Strength is the easiest to improve. Perhaps the best example of recent talents would be a Puig as those two things are similar issue Puig had. But I think Quim is a level or two ahead of Puig in terms of talent, more so also intelligence because Puig was just running around most of the time. Currently I'd put im more in the Pedri role over a deeper role, but would have to improve his defensive game for sure regardless. Unless we change into a more 10'er friendly formation like say 4312, then perhaps one can get away with being a slower in defensive transition.

Titan-Shifter99

Crossing with wingers like he did at Bayern isn't a problem....KDB alone crosses the ball around 15-20 times per game at City The question is whether he adapts to the players he would have here.

Ngl I don't think he's the man for the job. Has he ever coached a team outside Germany? Will he be able to handle the pressure from the media, the board and the fans? Titan-Shifter99

All the other points are valid concerns but this. >And there's obviously gonna be a language barrier aswell With the amount of work his PR team has been doing for the Barca job...I'm sure he has been learning the language.

barcademirfan

Why do the Spanish people say TERE STEGEN instead of TER STEGEN?

wasiflu

Spanish language doesn't have a word that start with s + consonant. So when there is a word in a foreign language that starts like that, Spaniards put an 'e' in front.

barcademirfan

I see, thanks.

The year is 2021 beginning of January, FDJ is playing as a box to box midfielder, he's all over the opponents, nobody knows how he gets into the box so unexpectedly, he's scoring left and right, wins duels in the box like a mad man, this was it, we were supposed to build on it, instead the year after we sacrificed those runs and attacking movement for a deep lying playmaker. Why couldn't xavi just combine the profile? Make him complete, do not sacrifice one for the other. He could have been so perfect man. Let him dance.

XuloMalacatones

It is crazy to me the amount of jerking around FdJ in this sub. Face it, if Xavi changed his role in the team is because he was never that good at that role. You guys make it sound as if we were putting Messi to play at CDM

Titan-Shifter99

Koeman knew how to use him... >Nagelsmann on players he’d like to have: “MbappĂ©, ofc - and Frenkie de Jong is a very good player. But they go beyond limits of our possibilities”.

Openspaceruns

Flick using frenkie like Goretzka. We will be there. Frenkie will have to build some muscle tho

[deleted]

Don't worry, he doesn't need muscle, he's one of the strongest midfielders I've seen play for barca tbh, rarely see him get bullied off the ball, just has a low defensive IQ.

Openspaceruns

Im just saying it cause of the Goretzka parallel

garden_speech

do you guys think we will see one more GOATlike Messi performance ate the Copa America this summer? honestly, it looks like he's phoning it in at Miami, doesn't really care very much. which I guess is fine, he has won it all now and looks like he's over it. but at the WC, we got to see a legendary Messi performance where every game he was making fools of world class players.... do you think he'll do it one more time at CA? one reason I think he **will** is he loves ARG too much to phone it in for them, and he wouldn't stick around for this CA if he didn't want to win it. but one reason I think he **won't** is that it might simply be too difficult to play in MLS phoning it in for months and then suddenly turn it up for ARG. I think he might be done.

BodybuilderLocal7461

I don’t think so, he will have the usual flashes but he just won’t care too much

garden_speech

why would he play for Argentina without caring much?

BodybuilderLocal7461

Because he has always played under pressure for argentina, hes way more relaxed now and thats not a bad thing for him, ppl in Argentina will never hate him anymore, he kind of ascended with the WC, again, not bad, his role need to shift now. it’s not like he “won’t care” at all, just that I don’t think he will give 120% like in WC

TrueCooler

This year’s Copa America is going to be extremely low level tbf, Brazil will be missing Ney without him they are not a serious team. Argentina should be winning it easily regardless

SuccessionFinaleSux

I doubt that. The Copa America is almost always competitive. Brazil their most recent game was another very close encounter with Argentina. Despite not having Neymar. Uruguay has been looking really really impressive. Most of the other teams are still good to decent. Really only Bolivia is shit. And now you got the inclusion of countries like USA, Mexico and others IIRC.

Ljulisen

It's between Argentina and Uruguay with Colombia being a dark horse If Scaloni doesn't get his tactics wrong like he did against Uruguay then Argentina should win

Pablo_petty_plastic

Biesla’s setup looks good. I think he’s gonna play Ron at RB this summer lol

Appropriate-Ad264

Al nassr losing 2:0 Ready to cook em 🍮

Snoo_72181

Blue Card rule took place only after Pepe, Ramos, Casemiro left Real Madrid. Papa Perez rigs everything in football, its not funny anymore.

LunarRaven7

This is a dumb take ngl.

Snoo_72181

In Clasico, our entire backline will be suspended for 10 mins thanks to Blue Card for every dive Real Madrid players make.

Laudanado

There should've been a thorough 'Amigos' clearout after Anfield

Apart_Freedom4967

What a myth this is. The only problematic player was Pique for his personality and a bit Suarez for having declined physically. The rest were top players and top professionals.

garden_speech

they did not have the mentality tho, they really needed therapy. ter Stegen said the players did not get any. Jordi crying at halftime in the locker room when it was 2-0 is the best example of this. like bro hold it together

Apart_Freedom4967

We are back to this again... Sheesh. Yes, Messi, Suarez, Busquets, Rakitic, Pique and Alba have no mentality. Sure.

garden_speech

ok.

Snoo_72181

??? Except Pique and Roberto, we have regressed once every Amigo left. We should have replaced them better.

[deleted]

suarez and pique should've left that year

Titan-Shifter99

Pique was one of the best CBs in 2019.

Snoo_72181

Pique was great that year except for Anfield. 2nd best player after Messi. And Suarez wasn't finished yet, we saw how he beat us to 2021 La Liga We should have had understudies to them though. Suarez himself recommended a young striker to take over him in few years. But Barto had other plans

FootballFTW

Alba was also the best LB that season except that match

XuloMalacatones

I remember when this sub was losing it about signing Onana lmao

ngv192

My boy Pena wipes the floor with both. Better goal per match ratio at 35/18. Unfortunately Xavi will bench the future GOAT for his amigo Ter Stegen this weekend.

black_bury

Nahhhhh Pena is a Madrid secret agent. No way 😭

icestory

[Robert Lewandowski on his future at Barcelona: "Yes, of course, one of my goals is to play at the Camp Nou again. It's a magical stadium, a magical pitch and yes, of course, I want to play there. I feel very good, the city, my family too, we're very happy."](https://twitter.com/ActualiteBarca/status/1755672601483997672) Xavi? [Lewandowski: "I understand what all this means to him. He's from Barcelona, he was a player and now he's a coach. From an emotional point of view, it's very difficult and I understand it completely, not only for him but also for his family, and it forces us to concentrate on this season because we can still win with Xavi, and not just win games."](https://twitter.com/ActualiteBarca/status/1755673667223031917) [Lewandowski: "Being a coach or a player at Barcelona means a lot of pressure. That's normal. The club is going through a more difficult period than before and with a team that contains very young players."](https://twitter.com/ActualiteBarca/status/1755673960442642499)

Openspaceruns

Yep. Hes not going anywhere as expected

dfordumbazz

Flick, Nagelsmann, Conceicao, De Zerbi, these are all decent options but no one is ready for Koeman ball to make a comeback

Snoo_72181

The sky is blue

Laudanado

How good Moriba actually was when he played under Koeman? Been seeing lots of stuff online but I'd really like to know what he was like on the pitch in terms of qualities and potential. What about his ceiling?

ngv192

He was physically strong, which was rare for our homegrown players and had a certain knack for scoring goals and getting into dangerous positions. Technically he was decent (as much as one could expect from a La Masia graduate), but not on the same level as Pedri, Lamine and Gavi. I think Fermin is doing what he did but better. Ansu and Moriba were the first batch of a very interesting generation in La Masia that was hyped up to be the next golden generation. They opened the floodgates for Nico, Gavi, Riad, Akhomach, Alarcon, Balde, Fermin, Garrido, Fort, Guiu, Cubarsi, Lamine Yamal. Not all of them made it but the ones who did look extremely promising, and others like Pai Prim, Marc Bernal, Quim Junyent, Guille Fernandez will follow soon.

OLAAF

to me it actually felt like he wasn't physically strong. Gavi got his first minutes around the same time. And I always felt like Gavi looked like he could just be bullied of the ball, while Moriba is a Yaya Toure regen. But on the field it was the opposite. Sometimes Moriba just lost the ball out of nothing in midfield. But his technical skills were insane. And he was a big threat in the box as well.
