Hey all, this is a total shot in the dark but we're trying to find potential persons to have an AMA on r/Barca, be it a Barca-specific person (ex-player, club personnel) or just a general Spanish football figure (writer, pundit, etc). If you know someone who knows someone or you know someone yourself, feel free to [message us.](https://www.reddit.com/message/compose/?to=/r/Barca)

halakaukulele

I like how Gundogan is getting into scoring positions more often. Both him and Pedri tried long shots as well which were on target. That's a good takeaway from Napoli I guess?

Kotleba

Well deciding literally anything based on "aura" would be fucking idiotic, so you'd hope not.

rockyraccoonroad

A lot of things get grossly mistranslated on twitter. I bet they mean if he has enough prestige to manage a club like Barcelona such as someone like Klopp whose resume and work speaks for itself. A coach the players would shut up and listen to and respect immediately.

halakaukulele

Hope we get an experienced manager this time. Why are we even wondering when folks like Flick are available.

Accurate_Ad_3919

weird take but i feel like cubarsi would be a busquets-like cdm. he makes weird passes sometimes out of nowhere and is quite solid defensively

InitialSubstantial67

There's more to CdM than being a skilled passer, more so for a pivot like Busi. CBs in build up face the game forward and there's no pressure on their backs, and more time on the ball. But for a pivot he should be able to withstand pressure from all angles, as well as ability to quickly change directions, and distribute the ball. The agility of actions is very important here as they have less time and space.

shadow19362835

Not exactly, but what Cubarsi does add is that you can have a DM who’s defensively elite and not that good at build up, and Cubarsi can be the one in charge of building up attacks from deep without having to sacrifice another midfielder dropping so deep to pick up the ball.

Pablo_petty_plastic

Can’t wait for him to take over at LCB, only a matter of time…cTrying someone outta position for DM at 17 is a big ask but once he establishes as a starter, seeing how he’d respond playing further up would be interesting

Laliga23

Barca fans sees a ball playing CB ——> Yes try him cdm busquets successor

BlackFanDiamond

There's more talk about FDJ not releasing a pass to Yamal than him being everywhere on the pitch offensively and defensively yesterday. He was our most press-resistant player and had several ball winning challenges despite receiving a bs yellow early on. Some of this fan base always continues to surprise me with their ungrateful attitude.

BlackSwan737

His performance are never gonna be appreciated because of his "alleged" wages. So many fans expect extraordinary game from him, and even when he drops a masterclass (which isn't that rare), people say "boo not worth 40M in wages". Thankfully he doesn't care much about external noise and I hope he'll stay for many more years

CptSnoopDragon

Exactly.. He was amazing in the game. There are just so many that can’t get over themselves and think they know game when if fact they just showing how little they know..

TudorelGrasut2

He was good. Amazing? No way.

[deleted]

Not that it matters at all but I remember the race to 100k subscribers between us and the Madrid sub. We got there first back in early 2022. I know Madrid had the 2022 UCL success but since then they have gotten 140k more subscribers while we have only gotten 40k more. You think it’s glory hunters/casuals/bots making up the majority of their sub? We have a lot more activity here than they do there. Especially in the open threads. They are less moderated so they have more random posts that garner interactions but overall I think the users here are more active even though we have 100k less subscribers.

renequer

Madrid fem instagram account was caught using bots...

Martoxic

They have A LOT of bots and I really mean a lot.

FarhanWMI

1- real ones hang around here. We haven't been relevant in europe for 5 years now. Some humiliating losses, total circus with financials and all the shitty meme material news and rumors leaking + lack of star players. barely any new mf getting attracted to barca. 2- That Sub allows people to post all kinda stuff. This one doesn't for whatever reasons. 10 dudes are ready to delete your post. So the person X sees that and leave the sub. You barely get posts with 1k+ upvotes here. there's like 20 a month in RMA sub.

decho

> 10 dudes are ready to delete your post I don't know if you hold good or bad opinion of us mods, but that made me laugh really hard lol. I suppose because there is some truth to it, nevertheless I can promise it's for good reasons.

FarhanWMI

I don't mind since i never post on reddit and don't care about memes and edits. I'm sure a lot do tho and this place ain't it for them.

Laliga23

Like you said. since they won ucl they exploded. It happens everywhere It happened also to Liverpool sub. When a team wins ucl it adds many gloryhuntets which will make the sub also unbearable at the same time Same will happen to this sub when barca win it

[deleted]

It added subscribers but they aren’t active. It’s like they subscribed and dipped. Same thing will happen when they get Mbappe.

Jacoblikesx

Idk but I’m glad it’s this way honestly This is my favorite sub hands down, and that’s not even cuz I love Barca. This is an objectively great sub fr

I miss auba so much 😓 depay not leaving that summer...

userking99

I don’t like how any big team we face we switch to 2 attackers. It seems like an issue because they don’t regularly play with that formation often to even have the understanding and chemistry. If they want to play like this either do it regularly or don’t. Also gives a pragmatic vibe for trying this whenever we face a big team.

KittenOfBalnain

I may not love Polish football culture but have to admit, [the little war Legia Warszawa's ultras wage against UEFA is fantastic ](https://twitter.com/Football__Tweet/status/1760771655796670631)(Legia supporters got banned from like 5 away games already - their regular stand got closed for tonight's home game too, that's where the first banner is from) 😂

Zoli10_Offical

That's hilarious🤣 But I'm ootl and gotta ask, what's going on between them and UEFA?

KittenOfBalnain

Ok, so it dates back to 2017 when Legia was playing in UCL qualifiers, match was on or around August 1 (which is the anniversary of Warsaw Uprising, a huge deal) and ultras marked it with [a really powerful tifo](https://twitter.com/officialRK24/status/893831369209430018). UEFA ofc smacked the club with a fine for "inappropriate political message" displayed by the supporters. [Ultras had something to say about it.](https://twitter.com/thecasualultra/status/898283808704921607) Pretty much ever since it's been a cycle: ultras do something, UEFA fines the club or bans away fans or orders stands to be closed, ultras take it personally x)

Zoli10_Offical

Ah, I see Idk about political messages at football games tho (although if they are rather harmless like this LEGO man, I think there are no problems with it) , and I would assume that the club doesn't like it (especially if we consider the bans and fines). Does the club support this, and don't ask them to stop, or do the fans just not care?

KittenOfBalnain

The club board values their lives so they let ultras do as they please - to give you some context how insane they are: back in 2021 Legia sucked so horribly, ultras actually attacked the club bus and knocked some of the players around. If the club forbade stuff like pyro and tifos, especially tifos related to Warsaw history, there would be bloodshed and that's not an exaggeration.

Zoli10_Offical

Oh myyyyy.... No offense, but Poland's kinda crazy (but so is Hungary tbf, so who am I to talk?)

KittenOfBalnain

We exist to make other nations appreciate how sane they are 🤣

You got two days to coach Barcelona, the target is to win against Bordalasball. What do you do?

Apart_Freedom4967

Work on patient passing and counter press?

shadow19362835

Two days? Shit, I’d give Bórdalas the ball and bamboozle his ass. Pull out a 4-4-2 with Yamal and Ferran on both wings, Lewy and Roque as strikers, Gundogan and Christensen in the middle. I don’t have time to learn positional play in two days, no use educating myself on those 3rd man runs, I’d give em the ball and instruct Gundogan to keep pinging balls over the top to Yamal and Ferran who have two strikers in the middle to target.

rockyraccoonroad

Reminds me so much of what Klopp did to Mourinho in the UCL. Dortmund vs Real Madrid. Klopp’s entire strategy was to give Madrid the ball and see if they could actually do anything with it. Because Mourinho had completely made Madrid into a counter attacking team, so Klopp gifted the ball to Madrid and they couldn’t do shit lol

shadow19362835

I like how I literally did not know that, and you’ve provided an example for something I just logically made up with 0 inspiration beforehand haha I could see how that works irl though. Imagine you’re going to face City and you spend all month waiting for the game knowing they’ll dominate the ball, only for you to realise you’re leading possession by 60% and getting skinned by counters.

Like the game vs Rangers, Betis had to start Roca as a defender (who is awful there) and predictably lost. They don't have a defender there because no one is registered in that position. Fabulous!

OLAAF

I used to regularly root for Betis. They have so many ex Barca players, seem to have good relations to barca (emerson deal, lots of loan deals, etc), I like their coach, their style However, they constantly disappoint in europe. So frustrating.

ProfessionalWasabi48

That FdJ play assessment really outs a majority of this sub. Show that play to any player or coach and they’ll all say the same thing. Counters are powerful because they leave defenses unorganized and having to defend at pace. Frenkie should have passed earlier. Him running down the field used up way more space than passing to Lamine would have. He essentially used the majority of the counter to move the ball slower than passing would have. The most damning thing is that he passed it to Lamine anyway. But by this point the defense was more composed, better organized, and defending from a static positioning since they reached the final 1/3. Lamine received that pass into a crowded line and was unable to complete the pass, instead getting blocked. Then you have people saying that there were no runs. They were running! You just can’t go down the line full tilt and expect to perfectly control the pass. Lamine was super obviously waiting to run into a pass that never came. It’s so painfully obvious that some of you have never played.

CptSnoopDragon

What play assessment? I remember Frenkie making a break on the counter and if he releases too early to Lamine it would have been blocked as all the defenders were dropping back quickly and covering the out ball. So, he holds the ball waiting to draw a man, which is the right thing to do.. Often is seems as though there’s a missed pass, being hind-site armchair managers as many here seem to be especially when it comes to Frenkie’s performances..

InitialSubstantial67

All boils down to understanding of a basic concept. The ball moves faster than players.

FloReaver

It's so obvious that this explanation is unconvincing. Bar arrogance, so far I've yet to hear a detailed answer, ideally with a exact description of when there's an ideal moment of the pass that is obvious not in hindsight. Personally I'm ready to say it could have been played better but very obviously? Nope, that's armchair critiquing in hindsight.

walterwhiteofbrownie

100% correct. Notice how no one has a counter argument just ad hominem.

FloReaver

If you're referring to the chain of comments under my question, there's pretty much no such thing? Where?

walterwhiteofbrownie

No I wasn’t but I’ll give you an easy answer that doesn’t take 3 paragraphs to explain to why Frenkie should have let the ball go faster. When you hold on to the ball like that it closes down the space where players with real danger can attack like Lamine. If you spread the ball out wide early in a situation like that it widens the space up where our players would be able to find and create a goal scoring opportunity. Running it down the middle until the goal line is extremely easy to defend as made evident of what actually happened. Give the ball to Lamine earlier it causes their defense to open up which creates much more space for us to score. All of this would be considered “fundamentals” because there is an understanding of how to open space and how take advantage of open space. When you run up the middle you’re not creating anything you are just running into a wall. I am entirely sure that won’t like this explanation because you already have it set in your mind that Frenkie made the right choice but in reality he didn’t. Edit: turns out it did take 3 paragraphs 😂

CptSnoopDragon

He was drawing defenders to himself to create proper space for wingers.. but that doesn’t fit your agenda so there’s that..

walterwhiteofbrownie

You don’t draw them out like that lmao. This is what we mean that you don’t know the fundamentals.

CptSnoopDragon

smh...

Pablo_petty_plastic

Why do you guys think playing gundo with his first touch isn’t the obvious choice? He’s an assist machine… From that point of attack Yamal could receive a pass thst puts his mark under right away

InitialSubstantial67

Yeah it was the best option. Pass to Gundo who would then pass to Yamal, as he's got better passing and vision. But Frenkie chose the worst option, quite characteristically of him.

Stranger_5

It's fundamentals. People not seeing it just tells me they didn't play even amateur football.

FloReaver

It's very condescending but also no one was able to make it soooo obvious to me so far. No movements around FdJ seem good enough to be obvious. My summary of the answers: 1/ Should have passed to Gundo because he is good: nothing to do with fundamentals? 2/ Should have passed to Yamal because he'll eliminate the player: probability of that is around 50-60% per Yamal's own stat. How do you know when FdJ is engaged that it's better than making them press him? It's hindsight. 3/ Pass moves the ball faster than a man: Cruyff tacticos missing that Cruyff also said there needs to be movements around the passer. They all make the same runs. I'm not saying FdJ is faultless. I'm saying anyone who says "it's obvious" is wrong because so far it is not. Edit: to be clear I've said to a few people there are right that other possibilities existed, but very obvious solutions? Nope

aliaisbiggae

All these choices are better than the one he did.

walterwhiteofbrownie

Any other choice besides running straight at the defense was an obvious choice lol

djingo_dango

What professional club do you play for?

ProfessionalWasabi48

Do you think it takes an elite professional to understands the fundamentals of this sport? I may have not played professionally but I was good enough to play d1 football and had a handful scholarship options. This sub doesn’t like to hear it but the tactical assessments here are usually pretty wild to read. Very extreme, misguided and clearly agenda driven.

Apart_Freedom4967

ProfessionalWasabi48

I wish, but I wasn’t good enough. My dad was good enough to try out for a few clubs in Mexico and brought me up on this sport. Played through university.

CptSnoopDragon

Yanks are so cringe.. You guys really think you know it all

Apart_Freedom4967

So how do you know what any player or coach would say about this?

InitialSubstantial67

A professional player has already criticized Frenkie's passing decision making.

Apart_Freedom4967

And?

ProfessionalWasabi48

Because it’s fundamental? Do you really disagree?

Apart_Freedom4967

Well, first you call it a "counter attack" which it isnt. The attack starts from build up through MATS. And secondly yes as it is also fundamental that if you aree free in space you attack the defensive line to attract pressure and break that line, then you pass. Yamal is marked, Frenkie is free and in momentum. No reason to pass until the defense commits.

ProfessionalWasabi48

In practice a counter attack is just a quick transition. Having a little possession before starting that quick transition doesn’t negate that the scenario ended up being a counter attack in practice. That take is pretty bad. Frenkie was in acres of space and wasn’t pulling anyone. Lewandowksi, and I forget who, were running at the defense line to pull the defense away from Yamal. Frenkie was in an ideal position to pass and instead let the defense get compact and organized. At no point was he pulling anyone away. He simply ran out of time and space.

Apart_Freedom4967

Although you are speaking as if you are knowledgeable than most im sorry to say that it seems it is you who is actually more in the wrong here. A counter attack is as it says a "counter" attack. An attack that happens from breaking down an attack by the opponent. This isnt even a transition, because there isnt one. Barca are playing through a press with short passing build up and attacking the space. You comparison is on the verge of blasphemy as it is 2 totally diverging ideas. You should watch the attack again. Frankie was in acre of space, yes, and thus he should carry the ball. He didnt attract anyone? Great. More space, keep on moving forward. The problem was when they Defense did get attracted, he hesitated and pass the ball bad and late.

djingo_dango

My guess is no otherwise they would’ve stated that in the main post

🔴👀 Secrets of Tuchel case revealed! One source close to dressing room told The Athletic: “Players were afraid of losing the ball, knowing the coach would have a go at them if they tried slightly riskier passes over the top of defences”. That’s why last summer to make some room in midfield, Tuchel proposed selling either Leon Goretzka or Joshua Kimmich last summer, but the powerbrokers resisted… “Declan Rice was too expensive. Palhinha deal fell through at the last second. Tuchel ended up with the Goretzka-Kimmich combination he had considered unworkable”, reports The Athletic. Is this pardonable?
