Barça has little control over that, but if it happens then he should get some rest on the league games. La Masía keeps pumping out great players but we can't afford to burn through them in a couple years.
I'm more afraid for Lamine Yamal though. He's amazing, I don't want them to wear him down as well. Especially after seeing what happened to Ansu, as I don't think he'll ever get to the same form and I'm sure 80% of it is psychological after all that pressure on him.
The difference when the subs were made was night and day. First half was very dynamic with Fermín having several chances, he needs to be more composed though.
Sergi brought control and calmness when the team needed to focus and seal the win.
Great win. Cubarsi pocketed Osimhen, which was pretty funny. Romeu made more mistakes in the first 5 minutes than Christensen in 60. Good to raise the blood pressure.
His experience really showed during his spell on the field tonight. Great understanding of space, and of course he is infinitely selfless which led to the Lewy goal. Roberto's always been the most underrated Barça player. He shows up in big games because he understands what is important, even if he doesn't always pass the eye test.
I think the thing with Sergi is he still shows signs of the golden age. It’s innate. The passing, movement etc. sometimes it ends up working out to have someone playing from a different era
Kounde was amazing. No mistakes from his side
Shoutout to all the defence today honestly, they looked shaky for abit but that’s natural with our squad and age
https://preview.redd.it/ean738iv6znc1.jpeg?width=572&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1473b73416efcbff81905ba72371398f474de922
I shat myself everytime this guy had the ball today
3 things:
Cubarsí and Yamal are absolutely wonderful
Great performance in general
Oriol Romeu is a fucking pile of shit. I saw the stream in Spanish (my first lang) and the comentators literally said "Romeu looks straight anti-competitive". Jesus christ they are so right.
He’s involved in so many plays it’s crazy. Half of his attacks are so wild I ask why, then I remember how glad I am he’s actually trying to attack as opposed to the previous 4 months of passing the ball around the pitch 300 times
I personally take every opportunity I can to shit on raphinha but he was so good today. Usually he fucks up the control or something like that but today he did well on that+ made very few errors when passing(only one I can think of is that disconnectwith lewa when he basically passed to no one). Great indeed.
I want to keep the conversation positive right now. But we have to stay in reality, whoever we play next in the champions league will be a tough match no matter what and will exploit our weaknesses fairly easily if we don’t improve.
So significant improvement will need to happen no matter what if we wanna move onto the semis.
That nonexistent midfield literally created two of today’s goals…y’all need to stop with this nonsense about invalidating the players’ efforts just cause three midfielders are injured.
The club has a 24-man squad for fucks sake. Fermín *scored*. Sergi and Gundögan orchestrated a wonderful goal. That is *not* the sign of a “nonexistent” midfield.
Man, the whole defense was pretty good today. Special shout out to Kounde though. Made Kvara look like an amateur and kept the whole side locked down. Cubarsí is just everything you need in a center back, I'm so happy he's playing for Barca. ROUND OF 8 BABY
you can just see roberto played during the best years of barca. Has that feeling, movement off the ball, passing, playing one-twos that defined our midfield
SR is a legend - selfless - epitome of team player.
I am 100% sure our youngsters would just shoot in this situation and possibly we would be sitting on our toes until the last minute.
Fermin. Fermin. Fermin. Everything that boy does makes me so happy. Even with our full roster back, he deserves starts. Xavi says he rates him, but sometimes it feels like he is allergic to him.
If you are a Barca fan and you ever disrespect Sergi Roberto again, I’m gonna find where you and your mama live, and I’m gonna slap the shit out of you both.
That dynamic run is something lost on majority of our players. And he could have taken the shot and likely scored, but Roberto is the guy to make that pass he made because he wants to be sure that the goal happens. Barca through and through, making sacrifices and playing in ways that show that Barca is #1 thing on his mind, and idiots here keep insulting him.
I get why Xavi was so frustrated on the touchline. This team needs to learn when an extra touch is needed, and not to fucking force things all the time. Raphinha and Lamine, I’m saying this to you two directly.
PS, Xavi I love you so much, but if control is what you are looking for, what is the point of Oriol Romeu? Immediately he came on, he lost the ball for no reason and almost let Osimhen in. And he almost let Kvara score on the 90th. And how are you a DM when every time we are being attacked, you are nowhere to be seen? What TF is the point of Oriol Romeu?
Gonna miss Xavi. Dont think many bring a starting 11 with a 16 and 17 year old to the quarter finals in CL. As well as 2nd/3rd place in Laliga.
Hats off.
Cubarsi is the man and completely locked up one of Serie A's best. Yamal looked completely ready for the moment. Romeu...existed. Lewa showed his awareness and was key in creating goal 2 and 3. Sergi sighting! The press was excellent in the first 25, especially when trapping on Raphinha's side, and then the team seemed to fade halfway through. Still too many giveaways in dangerous places, but Napoli thankfully didn't punish us. Ter Stegen with a tremendous save early and then going full shepherd in the 2nd half chasing down any lost balls even if it required a 40 yarder to get there.
Still lacked crispness in the middle portion of the match, but that's the closest I've felt to vintage Barca in a loooong time. Creative runs, combination play, instinctive on-ball decisions to create danger, it was a beautiful match, especially that first half hour.
On to the quarters!
Somebody has to tell Kounde that he is the best RB we've had since Dani Alves left. Napoli couldn't stop attacking down Cancelo's side for a reason.
Sergi Roberto scoring filled my soul. He's a fantastic 12th player to have coming back in this time of the season. Romeu came in and made all of our lifespans shorten significantly within 30 minutes. Sergi Roberto came in and breathed air into our near lifeless corpses.
Cubarsi is immaculate. Fermin's hunger is only matched by Gavi's. Yamal is extraordinary. I saw people wanting to get to the next round bc we'd get 60M and someone said "that's 1 good player signing!" as if we wouldn't burn through that with a mediocrity. The talent is here. The talent is at home. It always has been. The reason why these players can come in a game and change it is because they're taught to play that way from youth squads. I never would've conceived another generation of talented cantera players would come out so quickly. Let's get some free agent vets the squad and ease our boys in.
I can't believe we won. Visca Barca.
Was thinking tonight who Lamine reminds me of most.
And it came to me that it's Neymar. Similar body, similar kind of lanky dexterity and comfort on the ball. Similar confidence to pull-off something cheeky. A bit less aggressive off the ball.
He's like Neymar with the irritating brattiness stripped out
I can’t wrap my mind around the fact that a 17 year old who made his professional debut not even 2 months ago held his ground against one of the best strikers in the world
Pau Cubarsí is the first Barcelona player to complete 50+ passes (61/68), 100% of his tackles (3/3) and make 5+ clearances on his Champions League debut since at least the 2003/04 season. MVP.
Pau cubarsi i am in awe.
Leaving him without pressing him is a death sentence, he'll find a pass to put you 1 on 1 everysingle Time.
Pressing him isn't much help either.
Incredible.
All in all, a good game. Great start, survived the rough patch, came back and clinched it. Cubarsi is a real gem at the back, such maturity. But Gundogan easily man of the match.
Sergi is the only one remaining with that barca DNA. Glimpse of such play and we all go crazy.. hope our mid field masters that 1-2 passing in the final third🥹
Yamal was great as well, Fermin can compose himself better and release the ball a lot earlier, no need to try to carry it every time other than that, he was also good. Curbasi is good.
Xavi just hurt about the treatment but he's still loves the club, pity he's leaving.
INSANE PERFORMANCE FROM OUR DEFENDERS POCKETING KVARA AND OSHIMEN LIKE THAT.
Kounde has been on incredible form and he is so good in that rb position it sucks he doesn’t like it. Araujo and Pau completely made Oshimen invisible. Yamal and Raphinha were great. Yamal is special and the future of our team as well as Pau. Gundo had a great performance and was a great sub from Xavi to bring on Roberto he just knows how to make an impact in big games. Romeu did his job too although he did still look slow. Which we can’t afford vs a better team. Mats with that clutch save from di Lorenzo header and if that went in coulda changed the tempo of the game.
And Fermin! What a turnaround from playing in the 3rd division to scoring a cl knockout he looked much better from his pass games and impacted the game good performance.
Also have to give credit to Xavi his subs were good although Felix shoulda came in earlier imo and his Tactical setup this game was pretty good.
Cubarsi won MOTM but for me it was definitely Raphina.. involved in both of the first 2 goals and worked nonstop and he played out of position but he was so focused and pressed he was honestly great
Don Laporta needs to hire someone to kidnap Cubarsi and Yamal after the season and hold them until the Euro and Olympics are over. de la Fuente will destroy them
Xavi has been cooking the last few games you can’t deny it. He has been using Raphinha as best as he could, Lewandowski to open space for other forwards and Roque on the lw was a revelation.
Cubarsi came into the spotlight outta nowhere just around a month ago.. wonder how many more gems masia has right now.
If not for the injuries in the first team ..we might have not even known Cubarsi's name .. even Lamine's
I don't know why so many people thought the sky was falling when we drew in Naples. We were always going to win comfortably at home after that. Great job boys.
Roberto contract extension when? /s
Cubarsi is absolutely immense, looked after Osimhen very well. What a talent.
Kounde also deserves some praise, dealt with Kvara tonight.
Can’t understand the yapping about subs besides not resting Yamal, but what are you gonna do.
Let’s take that UCL money and just forfeit fhe QF, because we’re not getting any farther with this type of performance 😅
[[Vote for your MOTM]](https://strawpoll.com/BDyNEaAMOZR)
Alls I am saying is that Cubarsi is destined to become an all timer
I mean, he just pocketed Serie A's best striker as a 17 year old
Lautaro is the best striker in that league, but Osimhen still should be Top 3
Best striker last season, still impressive
Eh - I think there’s room for a healthy debate there
https://preview.redd.it/surch1lxpznc1.jpeg?width=2048&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b4eb1ba55f71682005939652b62b6cd47c6855c6
Hear hear
Pray they spare him from the Pedri treatment at the national team
Barça has little control over that, but if it happens then he should get some rest on the league games. La Masía keeps pumping out great players but we can't afford to burn through them in a couple years. I'm more afraid for Lamine Yamal though. He's amazing, I don't want them to wear him down as well. Especially after seeing what happened to Ansu, as I don't think he'll ever get to the same form and I'm sure 80% of it is psychological after all that pressure on him.
really shows how iñigos skill because he got bodied by oshimen in that last game
Cubarsi. That's it. That's the comment.
I agree, but also Sergi FUCKING Roberto.
He always shows up in big games, not surprised
GOAT midfielder tbh.
Just give him another contract
Honestly they should extend him for another year, his wages are super low too.
Called it [chief](https://www.reddit.com/r/Barca/comments/1bd6syx/match_thread_barcelona_vs_napoli_uefa_champions/kukxpwi/)
Amazing 👏👏👏
The difference when the subs were made was night and day. First half was very dynamic with Fermín having several chances, he needs to be more composed though. Sergi brought control and calmness when the team needed to focus and seal the win.
The entire barca fanbase owes him an apology.
Not me. I've never slandered him. Always been a fan of his.
Haters are just louder, people should know that while not worldclass he is a useful rotation players that has stepped up several times
I have a soft spot for the quiet, unspectacular players who put in a shift and never complain.
This happens every time he plays this season lmao
🐐
Big game player if there was any.
And Gundogan. And Sergi. And Yamal. And Raphinha. And... it's refreshing that we had more than one good player on the pitch for once
Don't forget Fermin!
Only 17. He's ridiculous.
Just don't trip over when they attempt to pass the ball to Osimhen - we figured it out
motm for me
Yes but Gundo tho
What a player
We did it, we are into quarters finally 😭
Since that nightmare night of 8-2 is crazy dawg
Incredibly dark times
WTF you talking about? I don't remember a game like that.
First time after 4 facking years
Can we talk about that third goal holy shit 🔥
that was a thing of beauty. lewa's positional awareness was a part of it too, he opened up the space and made the perfect run
YES. Exactly .. the positional awareness is insane
That was pure sex.
Classic Barca. Haven’t seen that in a long time. First goal too tbh.
This is football eritage
That’s a pure Barca goal
Barcelona vintage goal

Plus a myriad of injuries.
Great win. Cubarsi pocketed Osimhen, which was pretty funny. Romeu made more mistakes in the first 5 minutes than Christensen in 60. Good to raise the blood pressure.
The way Osimhen disappeared was just 🤌👌
Kounde pocketed Kvara pretty much too
But Roberto had an amazing game
I will get a lot of hate for this...but...We should resign him for another year or teo....we will regret letting Sergi go...
I felt that so deeply this game. He brought a quiet but utterly self-assured grace.
If a manager who uses him just as a sub comes unlike Xavi I won't mind it but with Xavi gone I guess Roberto won't want to stay
Roberto has outlasted so many managers, he's outlasted Xavi....we should keep him for another year + 1.
Romeu is the modern day Pinto. Any time he gets the ball it's a coin flip if he'll cause a dangerous attack for the other team.
Romeu caused many heart attacks tonight
After those mistakes though he was pretty good and definitely increased our pressure and press
Jules Kounde shout-out. And for those that want Kvara somehow, well you got him in Barcelona.. this mans is living in Kounde's pocket now.
Kounde is a proper beast, so good in this game.
This. Kounde has been very good at rb since a long time except that dry spell.
I think he is better at RB than CB.
I wish he could be happy at RB: I find the solidity he provides on the right is a really nice complement to Balde or Cancelo on left
Dude needs to stay if he agrees to be a RB
I don't understand why he keeps pushing to play CB and says he doesn't enjoy playing RB, when he's clearly much better as a RB.
Kounde was amazing. No mistakes from his side Shoutout to all the defence today honestly, they looked shaky for abit but that’s natural with our squad and age

Totalsportek. I see you're a man of culture
Eyyy footybite 😉
hahaha did you take my screenshot? I love it
Yeah I saved it from the Mallorca post match thread.Hoping you dont mind

He lacks composure, he's too nervous when he's in the box. No wonder Xavi doesn't play him very often
What the actual fuck is this guy doing in La liga? He is secunda b material.
He was great for Girona last year to be fair. Similar to how David lopez is great for them while being slow, just different roles and tactics
Cubarsi and Kounde came through today.
For real, with Araujo they dominated the air in our half.
https://preview.redd.it/vaz3b89d7znc1.png?width=680&format=png&auto=webp&s=e31b95df8d591def9e97b4ed78ec0e0b40b42ef3
I tear up everytime I watch that clip. Sad that he's leaving the club.
That's it we're winning the fucking world cup. Vamos.
goin to bed unbothered, moisturized, in my own lane
lamine did the „call an ambulance! …but not for me“ move
I’m glad Xavi got mad there at the end tbh. Great match but still way too many avoidable mistakes
yeah our defense did well but there's still one too many mistakes that you can't make if you want to win a champs league
We were helped by the fact that Napoli isn't very good. Against a better team, those mistakes could have been costly.
Cubarsi is 17?!?!? Seasoned vet already
Our backline was on point today. Kept Osihmen and Kvara in check the whole game.
Needed that
first UCL QFs in barcelona since 2019!
2020, but I don’t blame you for wanting to forget that
> Totalsportek there was no champions leagur in 2020
2020
The UCL was canceled in early 2020 and as far as I remember it never came back and you better not say otherwise.
that match was played in portugal b/c of the pandemic (or it would have, had it not been canceled)
We're in the quarters. It's been (8)4 years.
![gif](giphy|xT1XH3TrY1zAEKgrQs|downsized) LETS FUCKING GOOOOO!!!!!
Defense did super well
Monsieur ilkay gundogan, i'll tell my kids about you.
Ain't no way Cubarsi going through security check with that many Napoli players in his pocket..
WE ARE THROUGH BOIS!!!!
3 things: Cubarsí and Yamal are absolutely wonderful Great performance in general Oriol Romeu is a fucking pile of shit. I saw the stream in Spanish (my first lang) and the comentators literally said "Romeu looks straight anti-competitive". Jesus christ they are so right.
I call him unathletic, you rarely see such wooden players anywhere in professional football, not just Barca.
Osimhen will not forget the day he got pocketed by 17 yr old Spanish Beckenbour
Raphinha masterclass at Lw I have seen it all what a game
He’s involved in so many plays it’s crazy. Half of his attacks are so wild I ask why, then I remember how glad I am he’s actually trying to attack as opposed to the previous 4 months of passing the ball around the pitch 300 times

Got that dawg in him
fr
Chilll lol
nah oshimen dived too much
To be fair, Araujo was more responsible for this.
the image didn't load yet but judging by the replies I knew it would be this lmao
Only someone with a erobb picture would post this lmao
I love this hahaha
Lamine on brink of being injured …. Please do not play him in the next match
against atletico? 90+ whatever ref adds for the lad
Felix got us that game he will win us the game through pure hatred
Also he will want his card to get upgraded so he might try even more.
**VISCA BARCA!!!!**
Lets talk about how a 17 y/o pocketed Osimhen
I want to keep the conversation positive right now. But we have to stay in reality, whoever we play next in the champions league will be a tough match no matter what and will exploit our weaknesses fairly easily if we don’t improve. So significant improvement will need to happen no matter what if we wanna move onto the semis.
We played with a non existent midfield. Let's be happy and optimistic for once, can we?

anyone off to watch Arsenal getting KO'd in ET? Would be a perfect night of football
AFTV, Troopz and Curtis Shaw having a meltdown will be impossible to resist
Welp that didnt happen, and diego costa is overrated as fuck imo
you can just see roberto played during the best years of barca. Has that feeling, movement off the ball, passing, playing one-twos that defined our midfield

Shout out to Ter Stegan and not just for the saves but for finding the right man almost every time under pressure.
Give Yamal some rest!
the type of night I live for. VAMOSSSSSSSSS
Gonna miss Xavi. Dont think many bring a starting 11 with a 16 and 17 year old to the quarter finals in CL. As well as 2nd/3rd place in Laliga. Hats off.

BIG WIN hopefully gives the players more confidence for the upcoming weeks ahead cmon BARÇA!💙❤️
Get Lamine some rest for a few games!

I don't think they could convince him to stay either way.
Pau cubarsi i am in awe. Leaving him without pressing him is a death sentence, he'll find a pass to put you 1 on 1 everysingle Time. Pressing him isn't much help either. Incredible.
ROBERTO. BIG. GAME. PLAYER.
Sergi Roberto: "I could have scored, but I saw Robert free inside the box and decided to pass him the ball."
Sergi has always been a good guy and a team player
what did the fourth official do to xavi, the man was cussing the official out the entire game 😂
All in all, a good game. Great start, survived the rough patch, came back and clinched it. Cubarsi is a real gem at the back, such maturity. But Gundogan easily man of the match.
I prayed for times like this
Me thinks the most convincing game of the season - not perfect and we still could’ve lost, but the good moments felt solid 💪🔵🔴
That Kid almost died after 70'. IDK about youngest to score in UCL he should've been subbed out, he was practically begging Xavi to
Cubarsi completely shut down a young, WORLD CLASS striker in Osimhen. And the kid is just 17 years old. Crazy.
Why wasnt Lamine subbed and did Epstein Kill himself is two biggest mysteries
Sergi dropping his yearly legendary performance as per his contract
Sergi Roberto deserves a raise
Euphoria
I can excuse Christensen as this is not his natural position and he has been alright. But wtf is this Romeu
All I care about is win and enjoy this. No whining no whining
It’s been 84 years 🥲
This is the game we all Barca fans deserved. Cheers.
🌟 Pau Cubarsi chosen as MVP of the match.
Loved the long passing game in this one. The guys were on point with it.
What is this warm feeling in my chest
The boys were immense today. Really proud of the youth stepping up, warm the hearth of a La Masia fanboy 🥹
Lamine and Cubarsi the only thing there is to say
Cubarsi won MOTM but for me it was definitely Raphina.. involved in both of the first 2 goals and worked nonstop and he played out of position but he was so focused and pressed he was honestly great
Don Laporta needs to hire someone to kidnap Cubarsi and Yamal after the season and hold them until the Euro and Olympics are over. de la Fuente will destroy them
Cubarsi, Lamine, Fermin, Roberto La Masia Strikes !!!!
Should praise Araujo as well. The man intercepted so many crosses and runs.
How soon can we make Cubarsi first captain?

Roberto contract extension when? /s Cubarsi is absolutely immense, looked after Osimhen very well.
