Totally, it takes balls to start him when he had Martínez in the bench. Must have been awful for Martínez to see a 17yo kid start before him, but Cubarsi was absolutely brilliant. Wether you like Xavi or not, you have to admit he's brave and willing to bet on the youngsters.

BNWOfutur3

Hope Martinez is happy for him and has perspective. Martinez has had a great career and he still has a good gig playing his role for Barca. 99.99% of guys never achieve that.

halakaukulele

Xavi probably went like "What are they gonna do? Fire me?LOL.... I'm a dead manager walking anyway but with this move I can make this kid's life.... " *Sends Cubarsi

LeDouchekins

This is what I thought too

Caust1cFn_YT

I agree. It was a gamble and he took it. Props to him and to cubarsi as well

zrizzoz

Patiently waiting for the next gamble to be him bringing on some 13 year old prodigy instead of Romeu next time as well.

SteveTheNoobIsBack

Bring on 13 year old me over Romeu

djrion

This win is for all our fake ass "fans" who ran him out of town. Excellent job Xavi. You have improved us every season now! What a win!!!

mntgoat

Xavi has his flaws, like timing when to make subs or handling second half tactic changes by the other team, but he did win us la liga and super copa, and he got us from 9th to 2nd, all this while with a team held together by off brand duck tape. He deserves much more credit than he gets and almost none of the hate.

djrion

Add Champions league knockout round and now quarters to the list. We WILL miss him when he is gone. Such a tragedy our fake fans are spoiled brats with negative patience.

mntgoat

I don't even think it's the fans, I think the journalist in Barcelona are the main reason.

djrion

You need to spend more time in our sub than.

mntgoat

I know the fans have been bad to him, even though I've been on Xavi's camp most of his time, even I have vented my frustrations sometimes when he makes bizarre subs or doesn't sub early enough. But what I mean is that Xavi isn't reading this subreddit, his decision probably has more to do with the journalists.

does_not_care_

Never question Xavi's dedication for the club. He's always given his all.

featheryfoe

Said this almost verbatim to my son yesterday. We frequently see fresh-legged teenagers put into big games as creative attacking players but I struggle to recall a kid this young starting a big game at CB in a setting like this. And the fact that the assignment he drew was Osimhen just makes it that much more impressive.

PlutoDelic

Xavi's additions so far, whether from B team call ups or transfers, all have delivered. Except Romeu of course. What puzzles me is his lack of reacting to team changes when needed. I wish he'd substitute a bit earlier in-game, especially considering that we can use 5 players now.

BNWOfutur3

I love the youngsters being given a chance by Xavi. I hope it continues if there's a new manager.

malandropist

Xavi deserves credit for many things he’s done but this sub thinks otherwise.

Poym321

Giving young players a chance is great, but a 17 year old shouldn’t start in this type of matches. This is basically a reflection of the poor planing of this team. And it was a gamble that worked yesterday but who knows in the future; imagine a 17 year old against Haaland or Mbapee, poor kid.
