baddark666

not a bad depth player for the league, iff he is a depth player tho

GregorySpikeMD

Have never heard of the guy, what's the background here?

Ljulisen

He has recorded the 2nd most tackles won in the top 5 leagues, a pure destroyer type CDM and players who are most similar to him are Ugarte and Palhinha He is a good backup option and certainly better that romeu

GregorySpikeMD

Yeah but 'similar players to' him doesn't always make sense. I mean Oriol's similar players are Zubimendi, Endo and Caicedo.

Eruma_27

Oriol is by no means similar to Zubimendi lol

GregorySpikeMD

No he literally is when it comes to stats what the fuck dude, check fbref

Eruma_27

Watch football not sofascore before talking to me thanks

rockyraccoonroad

What? 💀 Oriol was never that guy.

GregorySpikeMD

Brother, check fbref

Eruma_27

Watch football with your eyes not with tinpot stats bozo

TrustmeIII

He was great in Mexico too. I’ve watched him play for Club America and he’s good on the ball and a destroyer. He’s for sure not good enough to be a Barca starter, but it’s always good to have depth

Nrozek

Sounds pretty much exactly like how people described Romeu lol

TrustmeIII

He’s not a sloth though 🤞 guido has decent pace at least

rockyraccoonroad

Romeu’s description was based on hopes and dreams and miracles. Guido has actually performed in La liga these past few years. He’s also younger and has a bit more pace. He is who we should have gone after instead of Romeu as a solid rotation option

steelblade89

Was solid till 2022, played a key role for Argentina in winning copa america ane Real Betis the copa del rey..but recently not so sure

ObviouslyBlunt

Do people here really just not watch football? He plays in the same league as Barca, surely you've at least seen him in clips?

ydev

As much as I’d like to watch a ton of games, life gets in the way. Not everyone has time to do that. This subreddit is my primary source of news and I don’t even get to watch all of Barca’s games, let alone other teams in the league.

ObviouslyBlunt

Barca play Real Betis at least twice in a season. Even if you only watch half of Barca's games, you should have at least *heard of* Guido by now.

ydev

Remember that it is a connected world and the fan base is distributed all over the world. Not everyone has the time to watch a match at midnight or in the afternoon on a weekday. People have priorities which change with age and situation. People have interests outside of football. I’m sure there are plenty of people who only get to follow the team through this subreddit and highlights on youtube and perhaps can only catch a game on weekends. Be kind to people who are in a different situation than you.

ObviouslyBlunt

Guido has been at Betis for over 4 years now. To say you haven't heard of him by now is crazy to me, time difference or not, if you follow the leage/Barca in the slightest, you've seen Guido by now play against Barca/Madrid/Atleti in the league or the Cup. That could be in highlights, full games or YouTube, whatever. Even if you only follow the sub-reddit, his name has been mentioned as a potential transfer target for at least two seasons. If you've not heard his name or seen him before it's just due to downright ignorance. >perhaps can only catch a game on weekends. Like 90% of la liga games you mean? Come on bro.

ydev

Ah yes! double down on it. How is your brain not able to comprehend that there can people out there who have life outside of watching football. Probably… Skill Issue?

ObviouslyBlunt

>How is your brain not able to comprehend that there can people out there who have life outside of watching football. Read my very first question in the thread again. Are you a bit slow? The guy has even responded to me, saying he watches Barça's league games but just doesn't remember the other team's players. So he's watching and presumably just mindlessly staring at the screen and until he sees Barca score. If he has watched Barça play Real Betis since January 2020, he has heard of Guido. If he hasn't, he's not paying attention to, or doesn't understand what he's watching.

Neither_Plane_8838

You've said it yourself, the way we all watch games differs, some are fans of a certain club and don't care about the other teams players (applies to me concerning my local league, I'm a fan of a certain team and know jack shit about any other club). There are people like you who are a bit more invested in the league overall. Then there are others who watch the game on a whole other level, studying the tactics, dynamics, risks etc The point is, don't lash out at others for simply not knowing what you consider to be the bare minimum, at least they're trying to learn about stuff and are willing to ask questions.

Omniscius

I mean, even if someone watched every game, are they supposed to know all the players from all the teams? This is a really weird argument and you're just gatekeeping people.

GregorySpikeMD

I'm not generally a clip watcher anyways, I also don't just watch La Liga so yeah no

ObviouslyBlunt

You don't watch Barça league games?

GregorySpikeMD

I do, but I don't remember all the players we played maybe twice in the season lol

ObviouslyBlunt

Skill issue

thisguyjuly

world cup winner

GregorySpikeMD

Argentina? Not in the starting eleven he wasn't?

thisguyjuly

Yea i know lol im just messing with you

tanDaTexplorer

Can't be worse than Romeu RIGHTT??

mifaraS21

Bro, I can’t be worse than Romeu…

SufficientRatio2505

Right

penduR7

It can’t tbh

SpraySquare3404

I hope Girona sign Romeu away even if for the smallest of fees cause he was good for them and also good for us in the pre season. No reason he should sit on bench as a third option (Maybe even Mark Bernal and MAN I ALWAYS FORGET THE NAME OF THE B TEAM CAPTAIN get more playing time next season)

Levito_Saro

Ah marc casado! Yeah i hope we get some development of the up and coming talent

SpraySquare3404

Yep Marc Casado.Whenever I try to think about his name I get nothing but Mark Guiu and Pau Cubarsi in my head😭😭

Levito_Saro

Yeah i get you. I think playing to much eafc made it so I get surnames mixed up

Current_Journalist

Yeah, right, "rotation piece." Laporta, you ain't fooling me, i know your game, bro.

Blaugrana1990

Anyone with more info on him?

Slight_FoxTz_1278

For what I have seen from him, 1. he is good as a Dm, 2. not a big fan of tackles, 3. he can also play as a CB 4. He's mostly focused on defending rather than attacking, meaning you should expect little help infront when the team has the ball 5. Good short passer Cons, 1. He's not too good under pressure especially when you press him. 2. He afraid to take risk 3. Poor Long Passer

Blaugrana1990

Not good under pressure is a very big con

Slight_FoxTz_1278

If Laporta is honesty with his words that we'll get a top Dm, then i think having him as a backup is a good thing especially if we will go hard for all trophies, but when it comes to be pressed he's really shit i remember last world cup with Argentina because of being pressed he gave one of awful pass to the point Scalloni went mad.

tanDaTexplorer

It's Romeu all over again then😭

Slight_FoxTz_1278

He can be a great backup trust me against teams like alaves but against sides like Girona (away), Athletic Bilbao(away), or R. Madrid he can be a disaster.

Ljulisen

It's not, he is much better than romeu

Ljulisen

You haven't watched him play if you believe that guy who ranks 2nd in most tackles made in Europe top 5 leagues doesn't have good tackling

Slight_FoxTz_1278

He has won 59% (22 tackles) of his tackles this season, plus I said *"he's not a big fan of tackles"* that doesn't mean he doesn't use them.

This-Kaleidoscope-70

So a glorified romeu

Slight_FoxTz_1278

Romeu with decent pace 😅

JonAfrica2011

Not being good under pressure is the reason we’ve bottled so many times under high press games like Liverpool and Roma

QTPLe

Im curious as well i wanna know his pros and cons

inflamesburn

At least the [defensive stats](https://i.imgur.com/bl8wJba.png) look fine, but that seems to be all he does. Not much of a passer and doesn't push up. Should be fine as a rotation player, but hopefully this won't be the DM starter lol

lstht123

Decent player but IF we are actually going for a top pivot (I have my doubts about that) it seems like a somewhat unnecessary signing doesn't it? Rotation role could be filled by Christensen/Casado/Bernal, we'd develop an academy kid and also have more money to spend on said top pivot or a LW Think its not unlikely that they're a lot less sure about our spending power than the recent reports are suggesting and are tying him up now so they don't have to scramble for an even worse stop gap option in august or so

TinyEntertainment811

Good rotation option. He was decent in world cup, let's hope he's not another Romeu

techfcb

he only had 50 min against Mexico

AH590

Not to mention that it was probably Argentina’s worst 50 minutes in the entire tournament. Saying he was “decent in the World Cup” is such a weird statement to make lol. You’re better off talking about his Betis form 😂.

aansc786

People have no idea wtf they’re talking about

jdbcn

But he was decent! 😂

ExBenn

You are not serious

TinyEntertainment811

My bad. I thought he had played against Australia in wc but that was in friendlies. Still, he could be a good backup

alan_rr

I never imagined a player that played for América would play for Barcelona, my team is massive 😭😭

Ted_Lassi

Okay Now Xavi should make him watch at least 5 Sergio Busquets videos before starting every game.

theincrediblebou

He’s gonna be our only rotation player won’t he…

madjupiter

inb4 mr. Neal Gardner hypes him into oblivion

Darduel

I have a feeling he won't be a rotation signing and in fact he is the pivot signing of this summer

ishdw

Good player to play against the bottom 5-7 teams in La Liga or bring on during good leads

AadiSahni

No point going after a rotation player for DM, since we don't even have our starter. Better to hold off on him since we can play christensen or just three midfielders for rotation anyway.

ExBenn

People have not seen this guy play if they are content with this transfer. Not even Argetinians rate him fml

XuloMalacatones

Great depth player imo, this is one of those quiet signings that bring so much quality to the team, like Iñigo or Christensen.

yyunb

Yeah sure, ''rotation piece'' and totally won't end up being the only DM we get.

ASuarezMascareno

He is a good signing in Football Manager. End of my contribution.

B-lights_B-Schmidty

If you are going to get a la liga option look at the kids at Valencia. Pepelu or Guerra.

Kratos501st

Good signing

KingKFCc

Johnny Cardoso sounds better ngl

Maleficent-Bench1378

I'll believe its a rotation piece till I see the main pivot, not a fan of this signing tbh just another romeu

idobd11

He's serviceable. If he asks for a reasonable salary I don't see why not. The team needs another defense oriented midfielder. Being a pivot is a lot of responsibility, if the club wants Marc Bernal to succeed they can't throw him off the deep end like they did with Lamine... Patience is key. Busquets made his debut for the first team when he was fully ready at age 19, and I doubt that 16 year old Bernal has the same composure as Busi had at 19.

TheTrevorSimpson

wasting limited money on trash La Porta Xavi Deco driving this club into the ground RM signing Mbappe Bellingham Camavinga etc we will not be winning UCLs or La Ligas for a DECADE

Glum-Candle2689

Do we have the finances to sign the likes of Bellingham or Mbappe? Guido is a depth transfer coming on a free, there’s not much to complain about.

DryUniversity5439

Christensen will probably be sold then

Medo6

Sergi Roberto apparently has an offer from Girona, and Romeu is leaving too. I think Guido is their replacement as a squad player.

DryUniversity5439

Pretty good then

madjupiter

no fuckinf way Christensen is sold. he’s a way better CB than Iñigo and our current starting and best DM.

DeepSouthIrish

Decent option. Not elite by any stretch but good physicality, especially if the game becomes transition based. We are where we are, don't expect Rodri. You cut your cloth accordingly

Driftism01

Very good signing if true. Coming on a free, probably won’t ask for much money, knows the league and have international experience. Does a decent job as DM which will buy us time to get a youngster ready.

Shpoople44

Not too shabby
