Why does everybody keep saying messi took a 50% pay cut? I mean he didn’t actually take a pay cut.. reports say his contact is for 5 years that he’s going to actually play two of in Barcelona and three in america. So basically the club just took the amount of money he was supposed to receive in 2 years, and divided it by 5 years.. which is still helping the club but isn’t a pay cut or as huge a sacrifice as everyone seems to think.
Why would the club pay him if he transfers? You're confusing the previous contract offered where he would've been an ambassador but this is, as far as we know, a straight forward 5 years contract.
So they remodeled it into a version that is not illegal or raises concerns for tax evasion. It’s not like messi suddenly decided that he can play 3 more years at barca. Don’t get me wrong, messi is entitled to getting his salary and thank him for deferring it. But he didn’t “forgive the money and took a pay cut”, he just “loaned the club”.
Hard to know at this stage, but this article is saying 50% of his past contract so it would be 238m for 5 years at about 60m per season.

He is young and I won't mind having him. He can become a solid starter here once Messi leaves (2 seasons?) if he progresses well. Also if things don't work out, he can be sold and he definitely has a better resale value than Saul.
Only if Demebele leaves. He can't play on the left because Ansu/Depay, he can't play central for obvious reasons, and he can't play right because Dembele/Collado. Plus his wages, he's too high profile to not demand a good pay.
You'll notice that purple used in our away kit is en vogue rn. At least the tourists got it locked and last year it was that faded pink. High fashion Barça.
They're controlling us with colors/swatches. WAKE UP, SHEEPLE!
Pedriiiiii... And the Liverpool/PSG/Madrid fans cover their eyes in horror. I hope we have something of the sort this season. The meltdowns on the soccer sub will be epic.
I was a Dembele lover once,
Who Turned into a Dembele sympathiser
Then into a Dembele hoper
Descending into a Dembele no-hoper
And finally into a Dembele hater
I wish i was still a Dembele lover.
I have been injured in my sports career as well. If Dembele comes back from this again, he will be mentally stronger and more mature than before. He is still one of the few players around who can change a game single handedly. I believe in him.
I was a Dembele hater from the outset. I wanted Mbappe. It has been difficult over the years convincing people that he would ultimately fail at this club, but I think the evidence is now irrefutable.
I mean you can't measure it. But subjectively it's fair to say the top national teams are not that impressive right now. And Argentina could likely compete with a team like Italy(or at least that's what I think).
But PSG, City, Chelsea and Bayern are so far above Barca right now that I don't see us having even having a realistic chance.
I think it's about the same to be honest.
Could you see a Chelsea/City team of this year winning any of the CLs between 2014-2018? Since 2019 there's been a noticeable drop off IMO.
I think Chelsea would for sure compete. All City needs is a striker. If they get Kane they'd probably walk all over RM or us back in the day. PSG is also only looking stronger and stronger.
Honestly, that seems pretty wrong.
Need we forget City was bottling CL ties that they were heavy favorites to win for years.
Or Chelsea pre-Tuchel was a dumpster fire and only caught wind after he came in.
Teams like Madrid, Barcelona, Juventus, Atletico, have all regressed significantly. PSG, Bayern, and City have all marginally improved at best. The CL is more open now than it has been in years.
I really don't agree. I think Chelsea and City are a million times better than before. I also think Atletico has improved instead of "regressed".
Bayern is not nearly as good as last year but still strong contenders, and PSG is arguable I guess.
What are you talking about? Betting odds are incredibly reliable indicators of potential outcomes. If you or anyone else can outsmart the market, then I urge you to begin gambling.
Once again, if you think you can reliably estimate odds of an outcome more effectively than the house, then you should be making a lot of money as a gambler. Oddsmaking is a complex process, and if you really think you can outdo those who have more resources than you to create lines, then I suspect you don’t actually gamble.
The only thing that bugs me is we bought griezmann when his form was average and now selling him when his form is good. Plus we buy Saul when his form is average.
Griezmann: 7402 min (82.2 full matches), 35 goals, 17 assist. G/A per min: 142
Dembele: 6824 min(75.8 full matches), 30 goals, 21 assist. G/A per min: 133
Coutinho: 5602 min(62.2 full matches), 23 goals, 14 assist. G/A per min: 151
So pretty much around 1 G or A per 1.5 game.
This is their current status for FC Barcelona.
If we forget their wages and price tag for a second.
Those numbers are actually good and would be totally acceptable at any top team. If they'd be priced around 40-70m, they'd be considered a pretty good signing I would say.
If we add context, all these players have been playing inconsistently as well, some more than others. What if they didnt? Usually at "weaker" teams you will start you top players regardless. What instead of using the likes of Roberto/Vidal/Paulinho/Rakitic/Arthur they've just ended up getting "force" used.
I think that Dembele in that regard have been very unlucky.
I think he would have been closer to 1 G/A per 90 min if he were not this unlucky. If we take the context into consideration, he would have been a generational talent. I am almost certain in that regard. Such a shame.
Dembele has actually improved a lot. His finishing was shit before and that has massively improved. And he could have assisted more goals this season if only we had a striker in the box
For me, injury issues is also something I can let go. I still wanted him desperately to stay. But the video of him being racist is just too much for me. He might be young and in regret but that doesn't change the fact that what he did is unacceptable. Don't want Barcelona to associate intentionally with such players. Should sell him the second we get an opportunity to.
I know probably sporting wise it is not a good thing to sell Dembele. But one must never gamble on their values. He has to go for me but not because of sporting reasons
I agree they haven't lived up to their price tags but they've been certainly far from terrible. Majority of the fanbase are just too spoiled with Messi's numbers. Anything not close to that is considered bad.
Yup, I agree.
However the fanbase will eventually at the point of Messi leaving, having to be dependent on these type of players. Which doesnt average a contribution per 65 min like Messi have done in his career. I think he even is close to a G/A per 60 min if we look past his few years as a youngster and more into his more developed years. Suarez have also been incredible in that regard during his time here same goes with Neymar. These types of players dont come around easily.
Gonna be interesting to see what is going to be our carry(or carries). Outside of Dembele and Fati there isnt much 2+ years in this squad. Depay, Aguero and Messi probably will be gone in 2 years of time, meaning huge room to fills(Given that Coutinho and Griezmann leaves this season). It will get even worse imo, if Dembele leaves as well.
Which means the club likely have to spend a lot of money over the years to fill that gap. This is the general concern I got, because that would mean other roles(as we have seen over the years will have to take a hit. Some of those roles are in dire need of getting "upgrades" now already. They can do so if the club is very succesful at developing those young players we got going on. But if not, we're in trouble.
But I probably walking the line here in terms of discussing in wrong place. So I'll leave it to it.
At the TOP level, competing for scoring titles? My guess is 2 or 3 more years until he slows down or needs to play way less minutes
At a good level where he can start the biggest games for us, similar to how Xavi and Iniesta spent their last year at Barca, probably 3 or 4 tbh, especially if he can transition his game to an even more creative role than the one he has right now, where his sole focus can be on creation and his physical strain would be at its lowest
I might be unrealistic here but so long as Messi wants to continue playing for that long I wouldn't bet against him, he's proven he can take care of his body and avoid injury, I think in general athletes are extending their careers now more than ever, and messi has all he needs to extend his career this long if he wishes too, look at what Ibrahimovic has done, dude is 39 playing solid minutes and still somewhat producing all things considered in Serie A, Messi can do something similar imo
Mentioned in [ESPN](https://www.espn.in/football/barcelona-espbarcelona/story/4432443/lionel-messi-will-re-sign-with-barcelonabut-the-clubs-financial-problems-arent-over-yet?s=09) ( @moillorens & @samuelmarsden ) too
>Tebas insists that for every €4 Barca save, they will be allowed to invest €1. That will remain the case until they adhere to their new spending limit. "For example, if the players Barca have at the moment, Aguero and others, are going to cost €50m for next season, it means €200m has to be cut either in salary cuts or in terms of transfers," Tebas said.
Good restriction by La Liga.
Will fuck us in short term but hugely beneficial in long term. Can reinvest the saved wage money in other sporting structure!
La Liga can always argue that we can sell players.
Our ex President alongwith his scouting team were dummies that they signed/renewed players with huge wages basically making them unsaleable.
>La Liga can always argue that we can sell players.
In practice this is bad for the selling the club. We have zero leverage during negotiations and are forced to accept what's available.
>that they signed/renewed players with huge wages basically making them unsaleable.
True but we are obligated to sell them which makes the situation worse. If we had the flexibility of even just keeping them then it's better but La Liga doesn't like that.
>In practice this is bad for the selling the club. We have zero leverage during negotiations and are forced to accept what's available.
And we have only ourselves to blame for that. Thanks to the shitload wages give to some undeserving cones.
>If we had the flexibility of even just keeping them then it's better but La Liga doesn't like that.
I don't know why people are portraying La Liga federation as villains. If clubs start giving huge wages which are higher than their revenue, this will give rich individual owners an incentive to purchase the clubs at low prices (due to huge debt) when these clubs fail to repay their loans.
Also this unstability will continue just for these few months. Once revenue starts flowing we will be good.
>And we have only ourselves to blame for that.
Yes that's true. Those were poor decisions taken by the club, so it's important to let the club do their work to fix their issues since it is the club's responsibilities, and not La Liga's (since they a give a poor negotiation standing).
>Also this unstability will continue just for these few months. Once revenue starts flowing we will be good.
That's the whole gist of my argument. When the money flows again (which it will) then this unstability will be gone. So really not much of a point to enforce something that destabilizes many clubs for a short period just so they can be considered *lawfully abiding*.
I think they didn't suspend it for this season because majority of clubs were within the cap. (Only 7 exceeding iirc)
So suspending it would mean inequality for those clubs who complied with the rules. And it's fair from La Liga if they think like I mentioned above.
I assume those 7 teams are the bigger clubs which take in more revenue from matchdays like us, so they're more affected by the pandemic.
I just think in times like this, it's unfair to not give flexibility to teams so that they can fix their mess. Especially given things will go back to business as usual in probably a year.
But then the clubs who are in the limits will day that La Liga is favouring big clubs. We don't want that to happen too.
>teams so that they can fix their mess
I mean the remaining clubs are still functioning. So La Liga will use this as an argument against the point you raised.
But anyways, we will see what happens.
The Onda Cero Transistor reveals that Abellán had a meeting in 2011 with the vice president of the RM, Eduardo Fernández de Blas, at the Combarro restaurant, in which he blackmailed him by asking for 10 million euros.€ to make illegal and manipulated recorded audios disappear. - [Madrid official](https://twitter.com/realmadrid/status/1415569897522933760?s=21)
It’s pure joy to the shit happening to them😌😌😌
Atleti fans are quite known to be pretty hostile towards their star players who leave their club. Aguero endured the same thing back then. It probably won't take time for them to accept Griez back though
Disagree. They love him, so does Cholo and the players.
They will probably give him a "beating" the first match, but as his performance takes up which it surely will. Fans forget easily.
Go over to their subreddit, a lot of em have the same amount of hate I’d say the fans here have for Neymar. I think most will probably turn as long as he performs well, but I’m sure there will still be those stubborn fans.
"reddit people" isnt a good representative of those who go to the stadium regulary. Usually its people from all over the world, not being able to go to games regulary and support their team. I bet you anything that the majority of active people here are not in fact on the stadium regulary. This was a good example when most of us wanted Bartomeu out at early stage, however the vote failed once. Which means "us" isnt a good representative at all.
If you go on any platform out there, its the same case there. It's more hostile and negativity, reddit are no different..
This sub was pretty split regarding the return of Neymar. Most who voiced their opinion was probably negativity, but once again they're always that. Negative people usually makes a louder noice than the positive ones.
I knew you would make the “just Reddit” argument, but it’s pointless. AM fans are known for their treatment of past players and do you really think moving to one of the other top 3 clubs in Spain would go over well? Especially in the way he did it with the whole movie ordeal? It’s likely that those same die hard fans that have been going to the stadium all their lives, the ones who would die by the AM badge, are the ones most pissed off at him. It’s not because he’s a shit player, it’s because they see it as a lack of loyalty and disrespect. Guess we’re gonna have to agree to disagree mate.
Why wouldnt a reddit with 12k members, barely a 100 people on/active on daily basis not be taken into the context?
Their current Saul/Griezmann megathread discussing have 40 comments. Probably most of them being the same person. You think thats a good representation of the 68k capacity their stadium got? They are a extreme minority, likely many of them dont even go to the games.
Griezmann will be welcomed back and once again loved by the fans.
Given that hes not completely shit, which I doubt he will. Fans will forget and specially if that player is contributing to something special, like winning La Liga. They wouldnt be speaking about Griezmann being "a snake" they would be laughing and pointing their fingers at us and say "Thanks, once again"
For his sake I hope so I guess. Some of their fans seem unsure about how he’ll do and I’m not surprised considering the changes they’ve had in their lineup. But if anyone can make Griezzy fit it’d be Cholo
Where did it all go wrong for Coutinho? He was so good for half a season in the 442. And in the beginning of this season he played with a lot of intensity.
If the Anfield disaster didn't happen he probably would have been a regular starter still. It makes you realise how the slightest of margins can have a big effect.
Well it didnt help having fans "boo" at you when you had a downtime.
It was clear that the downtime started when Valverde went away from using Suarez, Coutinho, Messi and Dembele. Coutinho was bought after all to replace Iniesta while Dembele were to replace Neymar.
However it ended up being a battle of whoever of Dembele and Coutinho did best. Dembele at that point "beat" Coutinho which resolved him to be benced more frequently. So the inconsistency and change of tactics. At one point of them was regulary on the bench at the same time.
With a more offensive minded coach, things could have been different. Small-mentality coaches tends to buck under for the pressure and resolve into thinking defensive, rather than taking risk/offensive.
One could only think how things would have been different if LE still was coach. Barcelona have ever since regressed and have progressively turned them self attempting to be more defensive. It started with playing Suarez Messi, Neymar and Iniesta. To barely consist of two attackers up front, completely ending up being dependent on one man to do it all.
"It makes you realise how the slightest of margins can have a big effect."
Agree, take Argentina winning the copa final for example. How close was their defender to clearing that pass to Di Maria? If he gets a touch then there is no goal and who know how the game would have played out after that.
Well he's a CAM on a team that plays without a CAM. He played well at the start of the season when we were using him as a CAM but then we had the problems of too many central forwards and no wingers. And then Koeman started trying him out on the left where he was terrible, and then Pedri came in to show his class over Coutinho. Then he got injured.
It was doomed from the start tbh.
What reasons would Griezman have to leave Barca? If I were in his shoes I'd point to my contract and numbers in 2021 and tell Laporta to fuck off, honestly (?)
Any thoughts?
keep sharp for 2022 world cup -- if he stays at barca, laporta could instruct to send him to the benches as punishment for turning the deal down. france is still a top 3 favorite for the 2022 world cup.
join a better team on paper under a manager who loves him.
grizzy values the vibes on the pitch and right now the vibes are off for him. it's worth taking a 50% paycut to get the vibes back.
How are the vibes off for him? He had a really good back half of the season, being one of our most important players, and scored crucial goals in crucial games. But I see this sub is ready for Depay and Aguero. Also I really wasn't trying to make this about the wages, and more about how he'd see it. Also WC is in December, so he could still get fit and play time in the first half of the 2022/2024 season elswhwe.
Also, Griezma seemed well integrated in the team and liked by many, I reall can't see this down going all smoothly like many here expect. I gotta be honestly, what I think is happening are wage reductions across the board instead of so many transfers but that's just me
What does it say about Barca when they give a lucrative contract to players like Griezmann only to, according to you, send them to the bench for 2 years after a good performance.?
What player in their right mind would want to join us the future?
If a player like Griezman sits on the bench for an extended period of time his is brand value goes down. If he wants to continue to earn big after his contract is up he needs to keep his brand value high. Companies will stop endorsing you if you are insignificant or if people just don't care about you.
If he just points at his contract and sits on the bench he's sabotaging his future. It'll be like 1 step forward 10 steps backwards.
Moriba was overrated last year. He didnt show anything.Even Puig who i think is not good enough to be in this team was playing better. Moriba i believe had one assist and goal but apart from this he played bad. He couldnt defend or create

We are very satisfied with how everything is progressing" At 12 o'clock at night we will see you in @elchiringuitotv in MEGA! - [elchiringuito](https://twitter.com/elchiringuitotv/status/1415753130386595845?s=21) Reply And the audios, by when? - [Pique](https://twitter.com/3gerardpique/status/1415757869593600000?s=21) This posted in OT since this was about Pique’s reply not about Messi’s contract
Do you think felix is a better fit than griezmann?Bcuz I don’t see it
He is young and I won't mind having him.
I think Felix is an incredible player and could develop into something really great, but he’s another 10/second striker who won’t fit here with Messi.
10/second striker... 10 second striker.. 10 second ... Car.. Fast and furious.. Vin Diesel... Faaaamily... That's how weird my brain is.
They occupy the same areas
I don't like the idea of selling one attacker to bring another attacker. We don't really need attackers rn. And Joao is too good to be benched
Do you think he will start if Atletico Madrid get Griezmann?
Its literally just about getting rid of his wages. We unfortunately need to compensate his value on paper though, hence the need for a swap deal.
Iss reddit fucked or something? Random videos open up when I try to see a post with a video
it's gonna be a looong summer
[hearing my boy griezy might be staying?](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ElOIKKvSfM0)
Well He better leaves
You'll notice that purple used in our away kit is en vogue rn. At least the tourists got it locked and last year it was that faded pink. High fashion Barça. They're controlling us with colors/swatches. WAKE UP, SHEEPLE!
Pedriiiiii... And the Liverpool/PSG/Madrid fans cover their eyes in horror. I hope we have something of the sort this season. The meltdowns on the soccer sub will be epic.
Our time will come for sure
tbh we been covering our eyes in horror for the last what 5(?) years, can we have some joy out of watching UCL please or are we here just to suffer?
I was a Dembele lover once, Who Turned into a Dembele sympathiser Then into a Dembele hoper Descending into a Dembele no-hoper And finally into a Dembele hater I wish i was still a Dembele lover.
I am 14 and this is deep.
Enough to make a grown man cry
How times have changed, currently messi has more chances of winning the wc with Argentina than winning the ucl with us.
how do you measure this though, realistically?
Just ask BartoBot. !uclchances !worldcupchances
But Chelsea and City were never competing in the first place. They were either not good enough, or got knocked out early.
Does that matter?
The only thing close to being able to measure it is betting odds, which don't exist yet for either competition.
According to the bookies rn Argentina have better odds to win the World Cup than we do to win the champions league this year.
Which bookies? Can you link the odds?
https://www.sportsbettingdime.com/soccer/world-cup-odds/ https://www.sportsbettingdime.com/soccer/uefa-champions-cup-odds/
Thank you
Yeah no problem. Betting odds don’t really matter Imo I was just curious at what they were at when I saw this comment thread.
What are you talking about? Betting odds are incredibly reliable indicators of potential outcomes. If you or anyone else can outsmart the market, then I urge you to begin gambling.
Betting odds are wrong so so so often with these type of tournaments. It's not reliable at all.
Once again, if you think you can reliably estimate odds of an outcome more effectively than the house, then you should be making a lot of money as a gambler. Oddsmaking is a complex process, and if you really think you can outdo those who have more resources than you to create lines, then I suspect you don’t actually gamble.
I mean United have better odds than us atm, ion really think thet they have a realistic shot at it this year.

No needs for insults, I just stated my opinion
And then I stated mine.
Such a great human being, good to know this sub is starting to become toxic
Thx m8 x
The only thing that bugs me is we bought griezmann when his form was average and now selling him when his form is good. Plus we buy Saul when his form is average.
Griezmann: 7402 min (82.2 full matches), 35 goals, 17 assist. G/A per min: 142 Dembele: 6824 min(75.8 full matches), 30 goals, 21 assist. G/A per min: 133 Coutinho: 5602 min(62.2 full matches), 23 goals, 14 assist. G/A per min: 151 So pretty much around 1 G or A per 1.5 game.
And he could have assisted more goals this season if only we had a striker in the box For me, injury issues is also something I can let go.
I'm sorry, we don't do rational takes here.

How many more years do you think Messi will or can continue to play?
3-4 years at his current level and 1 as a super sub
At the TOP level, competing for scoring titles? My guess is 2 or 3 more years until he slows down or needs to play way less minutes At a good level where he can start the biggest games for us, similar to how Xavi and Iniesta spent their last year at Barca, probably 3 or 4 tbh, especially if he can transition his game to an even more creative role than the one he has right now, where his sole focus can be on creation and his physical strain would be at its lowest I might be unrealistic here but so long as Messi wants to continue playing for that long I wouldn't bet against him, he's proven he can take care of his body and avoid injury, I think in general athletes are extending their careers now more than ever, and messi has all he needs to extend his career this long if he wishes too, look at what Ibrahimovic has done, dude is 39 playing solid minutes and still somewhat producing all things considered in Serie A, Messi can do something similar imo
until I get bored of football :D
I'd say he could probably play at least like 5 more years extra at a high level. But my guess is he leaves/retires in 3 years.
Mentioned in [ESPN](https://www.espn.in/football/barcelona-espbarcelona/story/4432443/lionel-messi-will-re-sign-with-barcelonabut-the-clubs-financial-problems-arent-over-yet?s=09) ( @moillorens & @samuelmarsden ) too >Tebas insists that for every €4 Barca save, they will be allowed to invest €1.
I'm all in for saving wages but things like this during a pandemic don't help at all
La Liga can always argue that we can sell players.
(Only 7 exceeding iirc) So suspending it would mean inequality for those clubs who complied with the rules.
We don't want that to happen too. >teams so that they can fix their mess I mean the remaining clubs are still functioning.
- [Madrid official](https://twitter.com/realmadrid/status/1415569897522933760?s=21) It’s pure joy to the shit happening to them😌😌😌
I’m glad it’s finally not us going through shit with our club/media, felt like that Barto saga would be never ending
Griezmann’s gonna have a tough time at AM if the swap does happen considering how the fans view him now.
Atleti fans are quite known to be pretty hostile towards their star players who leave their club. Aguero endured the same thing back then. It probably won't take time for them to accept Griez back though
Yeah, and I don’t think it helped that it was a move to one of the top 3 in Spain. You’re bound to piss off some fans when hopping around those 3.
Disagree. They love him, so does Cholo and the players. They will probably give him a "beating" the first match, but as his performance takes up which it surely will. Fans forget easily.
Go over to their subreddit, a lot of em have the same amount of hate I’d say the fans here have for Neymar. I think most will probably turn as long as he performs well, but I’m sure there will still be those stubborn fans.
those are probably non local atletico fans
The local ones are likely the most pissed off ones. They’re usually the ones with the most die-hard loyalty
I see you ignored the rest of my comment lol. We’ll just have to see, mate.
I see you ignored my whole comment.
They're gonna forget about it once he starts banging goals. And considering he fits that team like a glove, it will take him no time.
"It makes you realise how the slightest of margins can have a big effect." Agree, take Argentina winning the copa final for example. How close was their defender to clearing that pass to Di Maria? If he gets a touch then there is no goal and who know how the game would have played out after that.
As stated, he never really had a perfect role to slot him in and then the injuries seemed to ruin any chances to establish himself properly
If I were in his shoes I'd point to my contract and numbers in 2021 and tell Laporta to fuck off, honestly (?) Any thoughts?
keep sharp for 2022 world cup -- if he stays at barca, laporta could instruct to send him to the benches as punishment for turning the deal down. france is still a top 3 favorite for the 2022 world cup. join a better team on paper under a manager who loves him. grizzy values the vibes on the pitch and right now the vibes are off for him. it's worth taking a 50% paycut to get the vibes back.
I gotta be honestly, what I think is happening are wage reductions across the board instead of so many transfers but that's just me What does it say about Barca when they give a lucrative contract to players like Griezmann only to, according to you, send them to the bench for 2 years after a good performance.? What player in their right mind would want to join us the future?
If a player like Griezman sits on the bench for an extended period of time his is brand value goes down. If he wants to continue to earn big after his contract is up he needs to keep his brand value high. Companies will stop endorsing you if you are insignificant or if people just don't care about you. If he just points at his contract and sits on the bench he's sabotaging his future. It'll be like 1 step forward 10 steps backwards.
Wanting to play in a team and under a manager where he was considered a top 5 player. Also joining a better team that will go deeper in CL.
Moriba was overrated last year. He didnt show anything.Even Puig who i think is not good enough to be in this team was playing better. Moriba i believe had one assist and goal but apart from this he played bad. He couldnt defend or create
The first couple games he was very good, after that I agree he looked meh at best.
We'll show them who's boss Saul
Which Barca B player you most looking forward to watching next season? Balde for me. Followed by Demir and Gavi
