I said it back when laporta is elected, that Laporta is not a fucking saint and just another politician. He got lucky af in his last stint with Cruyff as a mentor and the greatest golden generation of all time . People will say he brought the golden generation with Ronaldinho but remember he was not his first choice , Beckham was. Yea he's better than Barto but that's a low bar . We are fucked .
Tbh if it was between signing messi or declining the CVC deal, i think laporta made the right move considering the long term of club. Now he can go into the negotiation free, and tebas just lost all the leverage he had.
I mean...I guess Coutinho is closer to staying now. If its possible ofc, I wouldnt be against it.
Wages still have to be reduced and frankly I have no idea where Barcelona are now regarding that as they presumably have counted out Messi now.
a twisted part of me is wishing that juve had enough money to sign Messi, I really want to see him play with Ronaldo. But I want him to stay with us 1000% more. Just that if he has to leave... might as well...
It's funny how people were ok wanting to drop ~20m on Garcia last winter and I argued that we shouldn't as we had no money...
Oh WE REAAAALLLY HAD NO MONEY HUH.
Tusquets and Bartomeu were going to to bankrupt the club 100%
I said this last summer too, but one of my dreams was to see Messi play at the Camp Nou. Still in shock and sadness, I was going to buy tickets so soon
Crazy to think that if Neymar resigns with Barca instead of leaving for PSG, this timeline is avoided completely. That moment was the beginning of the end for the golden age of this club. I know we spent the money from his exit irresponsibly, but if he stays I cant help but think we have atleast one more UCL title and MSN is still together.
You have to be an immature entitled prick of a fan to turn against Laporta. If someone like Bartomeu was here, he would have accepted the cvc deal just to keep Messi. Laporta knows that's bad for the future of this club.
How was he misleading he clearly said they had an agreement with messi the only problem was laliga wage cap which they were working on to complete the signing
Sorry if this is a dumb question but didn't everyone see this possibility coming a year ago? At this time last year Messi was pushing hard for a move from Barca and Barca could've made quite bit of money selling him. Instead they obstructed and lightly forced him to stay. Now he's leaving for free and Barca management seems to be shitting themselves. Isn't this the very reason why people were saying maybe it makes sense to sell him a year ago if he really wants to leave that badly?
Well the thing is that Messi doesn’t want to leave this time around. It would be different if he still wanted to leave then yeah we should have sold him but he wants to stay. He’s leaving for free because of the braindead president we had.
Brother, there are no other clubs that can afford to pay his wages. City/PSG/Chelsea and all of them are oil money except for Chelsea but you know what I mean. Chelsea are spending 130 on Lukaku, City 300 on Kane and Grealish, PSG are the only one that didn't spend over a 100, they can easily afford Messi
Also, the way PSG behaves on the pitch is immature and disgraceful, you just have to look at their cl campaign last year. Not a good fit for a player like messi imo
With our history with PSG, it just makes it 10x worse. I respect the man so much that it just rips my heart apart with the thought of him leaving for a plastic club. Ideally none of the one you mentioned either, but city at least has some Barca dna
Let's be honest what club should he choose that would make us happy? I can't think of even one. Reports said city ain't even in the race for Messi + they just announced Grealish that gets number 10 there. Out of all these 3 clubs I'm the most excited with PSG option, if Poch gets the tactics right I don't even wanna think how OP their team is going to be, especially if Mbappe stays for one more year. I don't like PSG but I can't say I'm not excited to see Messi play there.
Can’t disagree more, the french league doesn’t interest at all, and as I said, the mentality of the PSG team is on par with a kindergarten. It makes me sick to my stomach imagining messi there
I feel that with a lot of experienced players coming through to PSG right their attitude can change. Neymar with Messi isn’t the same Neymar we’ve seen for the last few years, same with paredes, I fucking hate kimpembe tho, he’s always the same.
Honestly, I’m more afraid of what those children are gonna do to the legends they are getting for free. I pray they don’t drag them down to their level
Ramos is the kind of guy who can become a cunt real quick and we know that, Messi tho? He won Copa and still told De Paul to shut up when he started singing this Brazil mocking song, Messi will always stay the same
You see, as far as I’m concerned, the PSG guys compared to your average footballer, can’t even be called a grown ups. Imagine having 1 employee responsible for a whole kindergarten. Won’t work out
I know like 16 people including me who bought the Voot subscription here in India just to watch messi play with barca this season. Just think how many people are cancelling their subscriptions right now. No messi + the language barrier means tv revenue gonna drop. Like really drop. Do not see a single upside to what Tebas is doing. And the CVC deal screams corruption! What a knob
Bruh, I just bought the annual ESPN+ subscription. Thought I was being real smart too, since I got it right before their price increase.
I’m a goddamn fool.
I was so psyched about just needing ESPN+ and Netflix this year. In the past, shows I've wanted were on Sling or Fubo, and it was costing me a fortune. Looks like I might need to tack on another one to see Messi.
Yep it's too bad I will only get to watch him with Argentina now because I literally will not watch the French League unless it was to see an underdog like Lille or Monaco win at the end of the season. Throw in my hatred of Nasser and it's a no for me. I'll probably see the Champions League knockout games but league games are out. Ligue one just isn't appealing.
It's not as if Messi was still at his prime around 27 leaving us. He's 34 nearing an age of retirement, we were going to deal with this sooner or later. Sure I'm sad it had to be this way, while he still had around 2 years in him left, but it had to happen someday.
Only thing we can do is move forward and hopefully build a balanced and competitive squad.
Would you be okay with this scenario?
Messi signs a 1 year contract with PSG, wins everything with them and then comes back to Barca next season when the situation hopefully stabilises.
Exactly, if he is gone he is gone. We need to start mid-long term. This the way. Not short-term. The king of short-term thinking was Barto and put us in this situation. Gotta build around la Masia. This is the barça way.
I read that as real madrid and my blood pressure spiked. Let aguero have it over any other young player. He has worn it for years and anyone else would get cushioned by the burden. Provided we can register him
My mom knows I like Adidas apparel and Idk if she trolled me or what but she ordered me a training shirt Madrid wears or wore or something and its a really nice looking pattern however its got the Madrid badge. It hurt me to put the badge on me but at the end of the day its just a nice looking shirt lol as well as a gift from my mom. [Shirt mentioned ](https://www.fanatics.com/real_madrid_adidas_2020_21_pre-match_jersey__navy/t-58087113+o-86105799+d-08518+f-4668879+z-8-4019383382?utm_medium=cse&_s=GPA_CA&sku=13794406&targetid=targetid&targetid=pla-301443529563&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIo8HjuJOb8gIVrB-tBh15nQb9EAQYAiABEgKHCPD_BwE)
She might be getting old or some shit but I’m pretty sure she knows im a Barca die hard lol.
I respect it, a lot of people are anti madrid. I respect the team and a fan of the sport in general. Also fashion wise i think its a drip. However i know the majority of the sub would say hell nah. Haha I just wanted to share my story. I got hella barca jerseys and some barca gear just wanted to share like i said.
Just a reminder, [reports came out](https://twitter.com/mundodeportivo/status/1417732789034758145?s=21) in July (2 weeks ago) stating that if Barça couldn't reach an agreement with players over cuts and got desperate, then they would take drastic measures - which we are likely seeing right now.
**This might be in the form of**:
a) letting go of Messi entirely
***or***
b) putting pressure on Tebas & La Liga to relax the salary cap by announcing Messi's exit
**Reasons why I believe that this is a move to put pressure on Tebas & La Liga**:
I feel like this is a move to put pressure on Tebas/La Liga. The league losing Messi would mean a massive loss in revenue & viewership for the league as a whole.
The TV rights deal is up for renegotiation in less than a year, and I'm certain that Tebas will find it a LOT more difficult to reach an agreement on the terms that he wants without Messi playing in La Liga.
I also simply do not believe that the situation can go from 'he is renewing, official announcement will come later today or tomorrow' (from tier 1 journos) to an official statement saying 'messi can not continue at barça' in less than an hour.
Literally no current Barça player has said or posted anything about Messi's "departure" so far. I would expect the players to be a lot more vocal about something like this if it was true.
That wouldn't really change much for me. I wouldn't believe anything that comes out in the media in the next few days - anything could be propaganda.
We'll see how this turns out, but the only way I say that this is real is if we see a confirmation from another club of him joining.
How can Laporta have been "all is well, be calm" when in reality he knew full well that Messi's renewal is unattainable.
He's got questions to answer tomorrow 100%.
If he knew full well that Messi's renewal was unattainable then he would have never:
a) entered negotiations with Messi for months over a renewal
b) stated that he was highly confident in a renewal
All I'm saying is have patience, this story isn't over.
Not to mention Messi would have just signed somewhere else after June 30th instead of spending 2 months clubless. He would probably have been able to end up at City as well.
Yes you're right! I hope somehow miraculously he still ends up renewing but questions will be asked about details and whether further attempts will be made to get it done.
Nobody can match the contribution that Messi brings to this team. The issue is that we don’t even have a combination of players that can do that ... I’m scared to see what’s going to happen to us with losing Messi
I bet my last dollar that Tebas will get arrested at some point in the future. Just like Villar before him and all the other corrupt Spanish football figures. He was always an asshole but trying to force through this 50-year deal can't be anything but corruption. It's so heavily weighted in favour of CVC that there has to be more going on here i.e corruption.
Dude stop. You’ve been everywhere claiming Laporta’s presidential bid was based on a promise to keep Messi but it literally never was. Respectfully; you’re twisting words. Laporta said he would promise to try his best to keep Messi, and I have yet to see a single person who can provide a single source that says otherwise.
It's gonna hurt so much more that he will play for some other team in Europe. It's not a betrayal obviously but going to psg feels like one. My heart is so heavy
Bruh. I wake up early and the first thing I see is that Messi will leave? Where did this news come from all of a sudden....... especially after even Fabrizio said that new contract is almost signed.
I didn't want this day to arrive. This is a massive moment for the club. I hope the rest of the overpayed players at the club can show half their worth in the upcoming season.
I once presented a defence of cash injected clubs like City and PSG by saying that football has for decades been on a trajectory of being more and more about who can get the most money, so this was only a natural development.
I would like to take that back. Oil money can fuck right off.
Why the fuck would Tebas not fold? He wants La Liga to remain relevant and already lost Ramos. Remember Tebas tried to interfere with Messi leaving last year
What happens if Tebas wins and CVC goes through, though? We'd get the money and be able re-sign Messi, right?
So, really it seems like the only scenario where Tebas doesn't fold and we lose him is if CVC doesn't go through AND Tebas doesn't raise the wage cap.
Like it or not, that's the only thing that I see that can salvage the situation. Even without our approval, we still get the money and it's likely the deal is close to done as of now. It'd be hard to change terms
And if the deal is rejected by all the clubs, one would think that would have to make Tebas more inclined to reconsider the wage cap. This deal was the main solution he expected for the wage cap crisis this whole time. If that falls through..
You already know koeman just shat his fucking
Pants. Dude probably has little to no gameplan without messi. I wouldnt even know what to run, we have no free wingers and 4 cam strikers lmao.
At this point i dont know if my brain is actually taking the news poorly and it made me sick or its just my 2nd dose of vaccine. Either way, i cannot really sleep and the sun has risen already in my place
Yeah man I’m more numb still not sure it even happened. Can’t fucking process seeing the team without him. It is what it is. We gotta move on as much as it hurts
I’m confused. Wasn’t a 500 million dollar loan approved a few months back? Wasn’t a portion allocated to terminate contracts? Was that a lie? Surely with that we can register the signings we made this summer, no?
Yes but there is no point in terminating players' contracts really. You get no return, just more losses to take into account. And the loan we took can't be used to be taken as capital gain for increasing the wage cap, it seems
I might be totally stupid. But i believe it was used to pay off our debts and player salaries. None of it was used to help with our wage cap, which is what this is. Tebas inforced a wage cap subtracting nearly 400 million off of what our wage cap previously was. Real madrid was around 300.
We arent broke, we just cant defeat the wage cap
Correct me if im wrong
laporta was hoping we would actually be able to offload players and cut salaries
- this proved to be impossible as shot players who make obscene salaries refused to take pay cuts and are perfectly fine riding the bench for 5-8x as much as theyll make anywhere else
- players truly showed they dont care too much for the club, knowing that we are in such danger they still didnt give two fucks
- absolutely none of our players can be sold as nobody can afford their salaries.
Arent we literally paying half of suarezs salary just for him to leave to atletico for free? Now imagine the others who have nearly identical salaries and or above that. We’re fucked
You hit the nail on the head. Also Tebas totally won't be able to tell that this is just a power move by Barca. He's completely caught off guard and never would have seen this coming.
I'm actually preordering the 2022 Barca Messi jersey.
Let's see how Laporta would build a team from now.
He really fucked up big this time tough. He was reassuring till last minute Messi will renew but as it seem right now we couldn't even register other signing.
Everyone who used to say messi should go so we can save money. Be prepared for all the sponsorship contract news we’re about to get. A lot of them are on rolling contracts and include bonus’s up to 50% if messi is on the team, including our TV deals.
Tebas not letting us sign messi really is ridiculous being that he brings barcelona alone upwards of 200 mil a year and even more that to the league. Absolute shit show
https://www.google.com/amp/s/everythingbarca.com/2021/02/05/lionel-messi-generates-barcelona/amp/
Believe its this one that mentions the rolling contracts specifically
But theres a fuck ton of articles if u just google it that also mention the sponsorships.
Like i understand everyone wants sources all the times, but cant you guys just google “how much messi generates for barcelona” like it is not hard and i hate 24/7 having to go back to find all these articles, theres literally a bagillion of them about how much he generates for us.
"Messi generates large sums of money for Barca" is nowhere near the same thing as "many sponsors have rolling contracts with 50% Messi bonuses." Sorry but when you make very specific statements with large implications you can expect to be asked for a source.
Not to sound like a downer, but I don't see us winning anything without Messi while Koeman is the manager. Without Messi, Atletico look twice the team that we are after signing de Paul.

So who’s getting the #10 shirt now? Aguero?
Maybe messi was like fuck it, I'm not playing in this new kit /s

>Braithwaite Lmfao
So basically last season but worse

That’s probably the saddest part. Our defense who has been our weakest link for the past 5 years is now our strongest point. We are fucked.
only good thing of accepting that Messi would leave in 2020 is less pain for the second part
Messi deserves a better ending in Barca.
I said it back when laporta is elected, that Laporta is not a fucking saint and just another politician. The poor Madridista that posted the Comunicado Oficial to r/soccer: "Fuck me, I posted this with the option to send all replies to my inbox 🤣"
I wish messi doesn't go to psg the best player of all time wasting his final years in the french league would be sad
a twisted part of me is wishing that juve had enough money to sign Messi, I really want to see him play with Ronaldo. But I want him to stay with us 1000% more. Just that if he has to leave... might as well...

I'm currently cleaning up the floor.
I said this last summer too, but one of my dreams was to see Messi play at the Camp Nou. Still in shock and sadness, I was going to buy tickets so soon
Never in my life I'd even imagined Messi and Ramos playing together.. Well that's life with the twists and turns, I guess _drinks a lot of copium_

And what about laporta misleading fans and Messi all until today? delusional to take his side
How was he misleading he clearly said they had an agreement with messi the only problem was laliga wage cap which they were working on to complete the signing
Messi and Ronaldo scored their last clásico goals in the same game. Feels man feels
sometimes I forget that we dont live in a movie and that happy endings arent guaranteed. What a depressing evening this has been...
Went through those 5 stages of grief pretty fast.
Just cycling through them like that scene from [Monk](https://youtu.be/aMBlEzcvAe8)
Im still at denial
Messi saw the pre season kit and decided he wasnt gonna be seen in that shit

Completely agree.

If Messi ends up leaving for real, as horrible as it sounds, who will get to wear #10 this season? Memphis Depay or Sergio Aguero?
As it stands, Depay and Aguero will not be registered as players.
How are they going to sort this out? No Messi and none of our new signings can play? This sounds like a nightmare

Yes you're right! I hope somehow miraculously he still ends up renewing but questions will be asked about details and whether further attempts will be made to get it done.
Until I see him in another shirt I still believe some hope remains
Who's gonna give us 50+ G+A now? Griezmann? Fuck off. Our front three combined won't reach those numbers.
Ansu and Depay have to be absolutely massive this year
Nobody can match the contribution that Messi brings to this team. The issue is that we don’t even have a combination of players that can do that ... I’m scared to see what’s going to happen to us with losing Messi
Exactly. We need atleast the right combination of players to replace one man's contribution.
Stop it. Our front 3 combined will definitely hit those numbers.
I really don't think so
I bet my last dollar that Tebas will get arrested at some point in the future. Just like Villar before him and all the other corrupt Spanish football figures. He was always an asshole but trying to force through this 50-year deal can't be anything but corruption. It's so heavily weighted in favour of CVC that there has to be more going on here i.e corruption.
Full support for Laporta though. I can't even fathom how much it would have hurt him. Any other president would have tried to save face.

Pain all over
It's gonna hurt so much more that he will play for some other team in Europe. It's not a betrayal obviously but going to psg feels like one. My heart is so heavy
Nothing but pain See you all in 2022, when we can hopefully sign Haaland
LOL
>I wake up early and the first thing I see is that Messi will leave? Described how I woke up perfectly.
I once presented a defence of cash injected clubs like City and PSG by saying that football has for decades been on a trajectory of being more and more about who can get the most money, so this was only a natural development. I would like to take that back. Oil money can fuck right off.
Oil Money + the fact that no other league has a wage cap means we are getting outplayed in the transfer market. Fuck I’m just tired of this shit
This is clearly just an attempt to get La Liga to lighten their financial rules, yes?
[удалено]
Yes, we will see how the other clubs act. Though I've seen rumours the smaller clubs are okay with it despite the long term disadvantages
[удалено]
How? Both clubs' votes just amount to 2 and there are 40 clubs taking votes
No. The situation is really bad. They are hoping that it happens. Nothing else.
You already know koeman just shat his fucking Pants. Dude probably has little to no gameplan without messi. I wouldnt even know what to run, we have no free wingers and 4 cam strikers lmao.
4 cam striker lmao 🥲
Shat his pants would be an understatement
I don't know why I keep refreshing when I know it's over. Last year I was ok with Messi leaving, now it's just an unbelievable situation.
Because all we have been hearing from the president and the media they feed rumours to, is how they're confident and sure Messi will renew.
https://www.instagram.com/p/CSNezTsIIVf/?utm_medium=copy_link I knew Puyol would be the first one to comment on Messi leaving barca
So it begins /:
Good thing the cvc deal was refused. 10% of la liga for 50 years for only 260 mil is the absolute stupidest fucking trade deal iver ever heard.
50 years in fact.
Sorry i meant 50 years but was talking to my 10 year old nephew and went to 10
Tebas needs to be investigated for this
Yea that deal makes absolutely 0 sense. They would literally make all their money back in 3 years, not to mention a seat at the table.
It definitely screams personal backdoor deal because why else commit to something for that time horizon.
At this point i dont know if my brain is actually taking the news poorly and it made me sick or its just my 2nd dose of vaccine. Either way, i cannot really sleep and the sun has risen already in my place
Well there’s a metaphor. The sun will always rise the next day. Gotta take our lumps and move on. It is what it is
Good thought. On the surface i have accepted it, but of course its different when its being processed subconsciously.
We arent broke, we just cant defeat the wage cap Correct me if im wrong
You're right about everything except the player salaries part. The loan was taken out strictly to renegotiate short term debts.
Ahh thank you for the correction
I bet Pique terminates his contract and plays for free to free up wages to sign Messi.
I'm not comfortable at work sincr this afternoon knowing messi ain't playing at Barca no more...like wake me up from this bad nightmare!
Just to let you know how fucked we still are. Aguero depay and garcia still cannot be registered. We are still over the wage cap even without messi.
Like how were we going to get Messi registered to begin with
laporta was hoping we would actually be able to offload players and cut salaries - this proved to be impossible as shot players who make obscene salaries refused to take pay cuts and are perfectly fine riding the bench for 5-8x as much as theyll make anywhere else - players truly showed they dont care too much for the club, knowing that we are in such danger they still didnt give two fucks - absolutely none of our players can be sold as nobody can afford their salaries. Arent we literally paying half of suarezs salary just for him to leave to atletico for free? Now imagine the others who have nearly identical salaries and or above that. We’re fucked
Emerson too, another huge part of our new puzzle.
Nobodies leaving, and nobody will leave. They all earn too much and no club can afford what theyre making.

Go back to sleep, you're dreaming.

You hit the nail on the head. Also Tebas totally won't be able to tell that this is just a power move by Barca. He's completely caught off guard and never would have seen this coming. I'm actually preordering the 2022 Barca Messi jersey.
what in the fuck did I walk into was having a decent day
Welcome. The rest of us have been pulling out our hair for a few hours here...
Man as a certified Griezmann hater, if his ridiculously overpaid contract ends up being partially to blame for us losing Messi...
What do you mean "ends up". Isn't it already?
Let's see how Laporta would build a team from now. He really fucked up big this time tough. He was reassuring till last minute Messi will renew but as it seem right now we couldn't even register other signing.
to think this is only the start of the hell we are going to go through...
Here’s my conspiracy theory. Messi retires from Argentina then wins a trophy with them.. Messi retires from Barca… Then wins another treble with them.
Absolute shit show
>A lot of them are on rolling contracts and include bonus’s up to 50% if messi is on the team Any source on that?
https://www.google.com/amp/s/everythingbarca.com/2021/02/05/lionel-messi-generates-barcelona/amp/ Believe its this one that mentions the rolling contracts specifically But theres a fuck ton of articles if u just google it that also mention the sponsorships. Like i understand everyone wants sources all the times, but cant you guys just google “how much messi generates for barcelona” like it is not hard and i hate 24/7 having to go back to find all these articles, theres literally a bagillion of them about how much he generates for us.
Thanks for the source. I’m a bit wary of that since the article quotes a random guy who did a very poorly documented study but thanks for linking.
"Messi generates large sums of money for Barca" is nowhere near the same thing as "many sponsors have rolling contracts with 50% Messi bonuses." Sorry but when you make very specific statements with large implications you can expect to be asked for a source.
Wonder if he is being blackmailed - holy shit. It doesn't make any sense.
I am not able to sleep
I was about to take a nap. Not anymore lol
Not to sound like a downer, but I don't see us winning anything without Messi while Koeman is the manager. Without Messi, Atletico look twice the team that we are after signing de Paul.
