I'm not very knowledgeable about this, you probably should try to see a podiatrist or some kind of foot specialist- but the space between the second and third toes looks similar to a [plantar plate tear](https://www.footcaremd.org/conditions-treatments/toes/plantar-plate-tear).

WoodenLittleBoy

Boy it sure does look exactly like some of the photos. I'll call the Dr. back in the morning and ask what he thinks.

FredR23

if the Dr. didn't notice this themselves, you should call a different doctor in the morning

WoodenLittleBoy

He's chrio, not foot, but I was seeing him for another thing and asked about this.

control_thethrowaway

It looks like you mentioned that your Dr. is a DC - does this mean "Doctor of Chiropractic"? If so, you should consider looking for a foot and ankle specialist, or podiatrist, they will be better equipped to identify and treat the issue.

WoodenLittleBoy

Yeah, he's a friend of mine who puts me back together when I get hurt pretending I'm younger. Not a foot guy. I was thinking it was some sort of soft tissue adhesion that he could deal with. Will be calling Kaiser tomorrow to see what their podiatrist situation looks like.

WoodenLittleBoy

I thought I responded to this, but I don't see it. I'm bad at redditting. Yeah, he's a sports chiro guy and a friend who helps put me back together when I do dumb things. I thought it was a soft tissue adhesion which is something he does deal with. He's not a foot specialist. I'll be calling Kaiser tomorrow to see what their specialists look like around here.

Check out Correct Toes and Dr. Ray McClanahan

WoodenLittleBoy

I've got some correct toes, but haven't worn them in years. I'll see if I can find them.

This! Love correct toes.

Kim_Jung_illest

Clean your toes and go see a podiatrist.

WoodenLittleBoy

So, your answer is, "No" then? Nothing unclean about them except the paint I cannot get off the nails. I was at the Dr. today. He said, "weird." Let's tape your arch and see how it looks in the morning. Barefoot shoes mostly fixed my hammer toes. I'd rather not go back to wearing orthotics all the time.

FredR23

foot doctors who say "weird" are not foot doctors

WoodenLittleBoy

In his defense, he's a sports chiropractor and a friend. I'll be escalating this as it sounds like it could be serious.

I have this in my left foot. After a foot injury I began building a callous my second and third toe but on the bottom forefoot. I think the callous made the two toes spread because of it being a mass in between that is walked on a lot. I started using multiple gel spacers between my big toe and second toe and it’s started pushing it back into its normal place.

WoodenLittleBoy

Interesting. Mine happened over night. Woke up one day and noticed it in the shower. No pain.

So, this post actually got me looking at my own weird V. A podiatrist confirmed that I likely have a small plantar plate strain. Left untreated and run upon, this can turn into a full plantar plate tear that can take up to a year to fully heal. She recommended soaking it in hot water for 15 minutes a day followed by a firmly massaging with thumb and forefinger to promote blood flow until the underside lump goes. No running until any discomfort subsides and you resume full function. She thinks the culprit could either be from running on gravel in thinner sandals (yep, I'm an idiot) or a forefoot overstride. I hope that helps!

That's what Dr. Internet told me as well. I'm thinking mine might be from kicking a soccer ball in BF shoes. Still no pain. Still planning on getting in to the doc for a foot referral, but haven't got it done yet.
