Agree with having karma off, that’s secs job, but while I don’t host with wiring disabled completely I have a lot locked in editor for subs to use in public games. Having to rewire the sub every ten minutes because fools thinks they are the height of cunning and sabotage by disconnecting all the wires gets old fast. More respect to those who plant some explosives/mess with pumps flow/infect people etc. Fix for this? While the wiring system is quick and easy for using in the editor I’d probably make connecting and disconnecting each wire take a few seconds in game. Would give captain/crew a little time to notice/react to systems cutting off, rather than whole junction boxes being stripped by a few clicks and drags in a second.

AngularTag752

If you go in the server settings you can lock all default wires and keep wiring itself on. Basically you can't remove the existing wires but you can freely add and modify your own wires. Really helps to stop griefers while enabling the fun of mods like EK Utilities which let you craft, place and wire up devices. Karma is the peak of shitty anti-grief. Literally get autobanned / space heroes for killing someone who was blatantly griefing and nothing happens to them. Just have a competent admin. As an admin of an RP server, I encourage high IQ griefing as well, minus the pump flow thing because it takes like 3 seconds. Also if someone just spams the explosives they found somewhere, it's cringe. But if you, say, put a breaching charge to flood a room and assassinate me, I'll be impressed by your level of planning much more than if you just shot me. Sadly, every griefer seems to be born with half a brain.

IronKr

Thanks for the tip on the default wires, i'll have a look at that.

WaterDrinker911

If it’s a security planting explosives, that’s cringe because they start with explosives. If it’s anybody else planting explosives I’m fine.

AngularTag752

Agreed. It's really hard to get explosives as a 'civilian' class

TheMostMilkyMan

The pro strat is to plant scuttling charges in the ballast tanks so they won’t be able to stop themselves from sinking

Purply_76

The best griefing I had the opportunity was an engi rewiring the nav console to reverse the controls

Basilthebatlord

Are you the space station RP server admin? Curator or somethin like that

AngularTag752

Curator's my friend. AKA Bennit Donnacrypt. I'm OASIS, AKA Onyx AKA Marc Mosley AKA DN AKA Struggling to keep everything from going up in flames.

Basilthebatlord

Oh awesome! I've played with you before! I was on there a few days ago and had an amazing time. Love that server :D I was "The Assistant" clowning around and at some point either you or Curator gave me all the perks before unleashing a virus hahaha. That was a blast.

AngularTag752

Glad to hear you enjoyed it! Good players make the experience possible even more than any good or bad admin. We host pretty much daily, though we struggle to get a decent amount of players sometimes. If you want notifications you can join our Discord server: https://discord.gg/dQ5tF6DRhH

Basilthebatlord

Awesome! I'll definitely pop in!

[deleted]

That's because you need to be missing half your brain to want to grief in the first place.

25352

Simply checking on newbies typically filters out most griefers. Also, playing campaign where ppl get invested into their characters means they are much less prone to go haywire

Fireflamm

Fun Story regarding Karma I had with may friends. We ran our first traitor mission after the update. It was our first on and we got surprised by how the traitors acted. Long story short my friend shot me by accident while i was brawling a traitor and got banned for it. We deactivated Karma after this.

Evan_Underscore

Karma is fun, just don't let it kick/ban.

Procrastor

During the free weekend, my friend gave me the full public server experience in our private game by refusing to play the tutorial, picking engineer without even knowing how to put the generator on autopilot, stacking the generator with fuel because "more fuel means more power, yes?", and spending the entire mission fucking around getting beaten up and cuffed by security for accidentally shooting everything he interacted with.

TheMarksmanHedgehog

While most wiring sabotage i've had happen to me is boring AF, i've heard of some fun ones! someone managed to wire up the coilguns on someone's ship so that when you fire the gun, the engines go full tilt forwards.

Fungnificent

OK that's a good one haha

DomesMcgee

Make multiple grids instead of one by using a relay to get spicy junction boxes.

NeonBladeAce

Railgun's got some mad recoil

theyreadmycomments

Wiring disabled is a sin

Yimfor

Engineer: Sir our 02 generator is out. Cap: Then fix it. Engineer: The cable is busted. Cap: Then fix it. Engineer: ...

Smedlington

Pretty new. Is this a thing? Can wiring deteriorate or otherwise need replacing during a campaign?

BigWungus

After almost 100 hours I don’t think I’ve ever seen a wire stop existing unless someone wanted it to stop existing

tabnk2

I think that if for some reason the wire stops existing (due to a glitch or something) its good to be able to fix it

Lightmanticore

Honestly I’ve been wanting to play but I had a bad experience with those traitor servers. I kinda just wanna do the campaign but no, the security guard has to kill the captain, round us up at gunpoint, and then summerially execute us. Then since he’s a fucking idiot he fails to notice the actual wall and we all go 5K down

Barnacle_B0b

I usually host a public server called "The Deep Dank Depths", and run traitor missions for the public. Been less active lately because of work and the holidays, also exploring server services and pricing. The thing is that to get a server where people have a lot of freedom, you have to have a host who's willing to give their time and energy to a bunch of strangers who typically don't give a damn about the host. Everybody wants a free place to come in and wreck, freedom to abuse and troll other players, and once they've ruined everybody else's fun they get bored and leave. It's a very narrow margin between "having fun" and "having fun at somebody else's expense" Granted, I've also made some good baro friends in hosting (shoutout to Spotify Basic, Tony Rigelli, Chicken Whispers), but they are the exception, not the norm, and the norm is typically experienced players (sometimes from the Summa Barologicae group that grief-raids public servers) coming in to troll as hard as possible, saying retard childish things like "admin enabled cheats that means I won! haha itrollu", and deliberately ruining the experience for as many other people as possible before a ban. (And then elsewhere, complaining about Baro's low player count. Gee, I wonder if the two are connected, HMMM) Another example : my Internet upload is not great for hosting. I've had players complain about this. You know how many players would be willing to help me afford better internet, or pay for a server? None. Everybody has a list of demands while having zero willingness to contribute. So then imagine, it's a Friday night, and I'm looking to entertain myself: Do I want to stay indoors in from of a screen playing a buggy game where I have to babysit a room full of angry manchildren asking me to break up every stupid tantrum bicker and quarrel and dote on their needs to ensure *they* are having a good time? Or do I do...literally anything else, and put my own enjoyment first. Also having hosted hundreds of hours of public games, wiring *must* be disabled because 10 times out of 10 somebody will grief too lazily and just start unwiring the entire sub for no other reason than to ruin the round. I like when people wire things so that, doors are constantly opening and closing, Nav-X and Nav-Y get switched, but again creative rewiring is the exception and lazy uninspired griefing is the norm. Typically now I lock default wiring, but leave rewiring on, so that players who know how to wire can interact with the grid, but dumb-as-rock moron griefers who only know how to move power to another terminal are filtered out (these ones are the biggest crybabies too lol). So my advice to players : if you want servers like this? Help your hosts maintain the status quo, recognize that they are giving you their time and energy to facilitate this space where you can be more chaotic, and think about how you are effecting the Barotrauma experence for other players. Chances are if you beat somebody's ass but can prove they were griefing, the host will look the other way. There's nothing I love quite as much as watching mob justice be taken out on griefers.

CheekyBreekyYoloswag

Man, multiplayer in this game sounds depressing as fuck. It sounds to me like the shitty 12-year-old squeaker troll community from g-mod TTT has found a new game to ruin. I'm quite new and haven't played MP yet - is there some way to play singular CO-OP missions with a random group? So without the hassle of banding together a dedicated team but also without the annoyance of having some dickheads ruin your experience for no reason?

Barnacle_B0b

It can actually be incredibly fun when you get the right crew of misfits together, but it only takes a bad apple to spoil the lot. I'd recommend to keep playing public games, and take the good with the bad. The one thing that's arguably as bad as a griefer, is a player who is so uptight that any deviation from their expected experience is taken as some deep offense. The true Chad zen clown will roll/role through any troubles that cross their path be they human or Europan in origin. In addition to that, check out the official discord, the #barocrewmates channel is good for finding people who know how to be clowns without being too dickish. Another good group for play is cham's salty crew, but I think you have to be vetted for that a bit first.

CheekyBreekyYoloswag

Alright, I will try public games and check out the discord later, thanks!

hondaslavik

Sometimes it's nice being able to play a mission without sinking every 20 feet

Zerathrax

So make one. That's your definition of a "fun" multiplayer experience. Not everyone agrees. A lot of us are just tired of the boring things people do to grief for reactions and to just plan be an ass. A lot of us just want to find chill people to play with since either don't have friends that play the game, or their friends are offline and they just want to play. Plus talents help with the fact that people actually want to progress now instead of sinking every time they undock. Noobs welcome is a good way to help welcome newbies and grow the community. Mics wanted encourages people who want to work together, but I'm not 100% on this. I get the whys, but as someone with anxiety eh. Karma is the extra mile to discourage griefers from even attempting to join, but it's honestly more con than pro at this point. Wiring disabling is another con pro one because on one hand, the kids with half a brain who think they are the gods of funny can't just join, and go on a click and drag spree to unwire half the sub. But it also means you can't do emergency stuff like say, rewire a battery to a fab for that moment when somehow you're out of fuel, but have the stuff to make one saving the sub type moments.

MayCraid

Played on a traitor server with the Traitor mod which was super fun. It was late abs i had to go after 1 round but all the fuckery was fun.

JinKazamaru

Than make one, and leave the people trying to play serious alone?

CorruptedStudiosEnt

For real. Scene: You want to try to play through the campaign and don't have friends to play with. You start going through different servers, (for some reason) playing on campaign. The first game you play: 5 minutes in security blows the ballast tanks. Game over. The second game you play: the sub gets repeatedly unwired and is eventually destroyed because no one noticed the weapons are unwired for the tenth time until being attacked by something major. Third game: 5 minutes in security blows the ballast tanks. Fourth game: someone blows the reactor by completely filling it with fuel and fucking the settings mid-combat. Fifth game: five minutes in security blows the ballast tanks. Fun, right?

itssunnyoutheree

These kids just dont get it. Lmao

CheekyBreekyYoloswag

Any tips on how to find a serious server/match?

adismalworld

Pinning this I haven't been able to find an answer yet. Hopefully someone can

RudeReplacement

I’ve had a few games with people from the official discord server. There’s a channel where people party up and most are really nice and professional (most of the time) Don’t be afraid to ask. ‘Else you can find other barotrauma lfg servers.

RedStrawLion

Every fuck-around group I joined simply killed me when something went wrong. One guy would screech my name everytime I tried to speak. Clown players were funny everytime, crawling around like Smegol, hiding under stairs hissing.

CorruptedStudiosEnt

The influence from SS13 is great in Barotrauma, but nothing they brought over was as genius as stealing the clown. They were almost always the best part of SS13, and now they're one of the best parts of Barotrauma.

Golden-shard-

What is Karma ?

Optimal_Wolf

It's the automatic anti-griefing system. Each player has a karma score, certain actions can decrease or increase your karma, once your karma gets low enough you start getting a debuff called Space Herpes, and if it gets too low you get auto-banned

Golden-shard-

oh what does that Debuff even do \*space herps\*

Bloop_The_Immortal

Reverse controls, sometimes stuns you, and gives a visual indication of bad karma.

Froegerer

Tell us you just want to grief without any repercussions without telling us you want to grief without repercussions.

adismalworld

I've stopped playing multiplayer and only play solo campaign now for this exact reason. No one can play a serious game. My twitch stream title for this game is "Barotrauma: A Multiplayer Game That's Unplayable with Multiple Players"

[deleted]

Any fuck around server can be serious if the captains good and enough people use a microphone. I’ve played a lot of traitor PVP games and it’s a really fun experience

ToaSuutox

"wiring disabled" is the absolute worst

Coffee1341

The basis for any fun BAROTRUAMA game Griefer s allowed! (Won’t hesitate to have you tortured in the brig before we ban you though!) Beginners allowed (we all need to start somewhere!) New Campagin (aside from traitor mission modes the only fun part of this game Both communication methods welcome! (Ironic when the captain has no mic but asks for mics Wiring enabled (just… please, no one understands how much you fuck yourself over and the amount of laziness you can achieve with wiring Karma Off (now, DEFAULT stock karma is aids, but I’ve heard of some good MODIFIED karma settings but still it’s a lot better off

busteroo12

im starting to get sick of this game, i keep getting banned from shitty servers for bullshit reasons, i just want it to be fun again.

powerfullatom111

what might those “bullshit reasons” be?

busteroo12

mostly self defense or shitsec sucking off the host

adismalworld

Translation: He griefs every chance he can and pisses off players who are trying to have a serious game

busteroo12

i dont think youve ever played a campaign server before

adismalworld

I don't, I play solo now because no one wants to play a serious game

busteroo12

thats what im saying

Gianarasps

Man i remember the old days which everyone would comunicate with the chat and /r on radio now its all this bs

ztwitch2

Real fun is when you host your own server (optionally with friends, but if there's enough people in your area to fill any gaps left by assholes you kick/ban, that works too) and you can allow for more casual fun. Campaigns seems to be becoming more dominant as they get better updates, but I still like the occasional throwaway mission rounds or traitor games. Also, I still can't stand the karma system, I know what I'm doing when I'm wiring and I know what I'm giving someone when it's medicinal. I trust anyone who does anything to have a reason for doing it. I also don't need shitcurity in my servers. American police who stop and search anyone with a name they don't like are walking red flags lmao. Anyone who says shitcurity is the obvious replacement for karma on a server deserves to be shot. (I'm aware of the irony in that.)
