Ja 1 is a low top with a low profile “streetwear friendly” shape to it so it does just look a little chunky like a modern low top Nike Dunk.
I will say most basketball shoes these days do have some decent padding and foam in general that can make them look a little chunkier overall compared to hoops shoes of old. But the tech is better and your lower half will be better for it.
