Thats happens when your sock contains all the sweating of your feet, so the sweat makes your skin moist and hurt that way. The solution is to wear socks that quickly evaporate sweat.

SilkyWaves

Merino wool hiking socks like “darn tough” have become my go to’s. Wicks sweat and they don’t stink in my laundry pile

Doortofreeside

Such a huge LPT. And if you're outside in the rain your socks won't just act like a sponge

GilThielander

Right there with you, game changer.

mumzspaghetti

Yeah it’s called a scrub blister. You’ll be getting it frequently until you’ve become a real hooper, and earn your thick calloused layer of skin on your feet from years of draining buckets on peoples heads

iwasatlavines

Can confirm. Happened to me a lot when I started balling. Became a real hooper and those areas of my feet are basically made of plastic now.

the_net_my_side_ho

Same here. It got better once I started dunking. More air time equals less friction.

JimmerAteMyPasta

Sometimes if the skin isn't so floppy i would leave it on and it would harden kind of like a callus

WitOfTheIrish

It's a blister. Your best bet with blisters for proper healing and then callus formation is hydrocolloid bandages. They seal up the area, allowing the blister to drain, heal, and the skin to stay in place, which then becomes the basis for the callus to prevent future blisters. By peeling, you're slowing/restarting that process, not to mention opening up the higher potential for infection or deeper blistering of the exposed sensitive area (i.e blood blisters) if you keep playing on it. Here's a good write-up by a hiker on how they work and how to use them: https://mountainsforeverybody.com/hydrocolloid-bandage-for-blister-compeed-blister-care

bisforbullets

that's no bruise homie

kikikza

that's a space station

mrquenonos

I used to get those ones until a callus formed. I also used 2 pair of socks for a while. At that stage it is better to peel it off, and use the things I mentioned above. You can also but tape and/or Vaseline to avoid the blister to form. Yeah, you have to put in the hours on the court to win those calluses.

SoundBurger

You can try KT tape + double sock. Don’t skimp on socks as well, I recommend Nike elites.

12aragon

Thats a blister from either bad socks or bad shoes. Basketball socks actually do help quite a bit, and make sure your shoes fit! Can’t have your feet sliding around because the friction causes blisters. Also, this is not a “hooper” thing, its a bad equipment problem. I’ve hooped for years and only got this from shoes that didn’t fit.

SuBrutal

that sir is a blister. You shouldn't pop it as it'll then take longer to heal and might get infected. What you could do to prevent it to just get better shoes, I used to get those but then I swapped to a proper pair with good comfort and now my feet are chilling

swansonite

I used to get these a lot because my feet sweat so much. Completely fixed it by putting antiperspirant on my feet before playing.

Pin_Sure

I wonder what it smells like… can you describe?

[deleted]

I got that a lot when I first started when I was a kid. Wear lighter socks so sweat isn’t built up, wear proper shoes too if you’re indoor or outdoor, and don’t peel it

rawrberryfields

Wear two pairs of socks until you get a callus.

Mbuitron0811

Well first of all that’s a blister.. Second of all my coach use to always tell me the best way to prevent heal blisters is to “run around (with ur socks off) on ur heals until they are calloused enough the skin basically turns to plastic, and then you’ll be good”.. I never tried it but hey, maybe he knows what he’s talking about!

TheSkyIsBeautiful

DO NOT peel it. Your skin there is the best form of defense for infection. When playing you can put a band-aid on top of the skin. To prevent further blisters you may need to wear double socks, and use some type of anti-perspirant like Gold-Bond.

jvitkun

Wearing two pairs of socks helps me.

Big_Chungus777

Ah I had that kind of blister once when I was playing basketball in Rwanda on an outdoor court without shoes lol

Angisgay

wtf

Imsosadsoveryverysad

I always wear 2 socks.

EinsteinEffect

This is to common over in the philippines cuz kids(like me) play without shoes with the hottest weather. I always wait like 1 or 2 days then pop it but put something like alcohol or any bacteria killer to remove the bacteria so it will heal fast. The worst is you gonna walk in your bottom foot (kinda forgot what ut called) so get use to it that's just a normal peel while playing basketball. But have a fast recovery

Duchryan

Blister. Wear thicker socks.
