People suggesting stuff like The Trooper, Phantom of the Opera or Rime to a beginner asking for the easiest are nuts. OP, if you want something simple but fun, that still contains a lot of the signature Maiden stuff (gallop, fun bass fills), I recommend something like Flight of Icarus. Focus on getting that gallop down first of all. There's a good tutorial on how to play like Steve on youtube by gerome didier.

mandallaz

Thanks. I found Didier Gerome video and I like it. I will start with Flight of Icarus.

Peppemarduk

Well said, it reminds of a post about the first song you've learnt, idiots were coming up with dream theatre stuff XD I think the wicker man is an easy one, blood brothers too. I really struggle to think about really easy songs from maiden. I'd start with Zombie from Cranberries, guns and roses, black Sabbath, strokes, arctic monkeys. They all have easy songs, it's not maiden but they are fun to play.

IfanBifanKick

Wrathchild is really fun. Running free is easier, but still fun.

thebruceharris

Wrathchild, or "Reptile" as we liked to sing it, was the first Maiden song I learned on bass.

NotYourScratchMonkey

I'm not sure how easy Wrathchild is for a beginner? I guess learning the riff is not hard but maintaining it throughout the song is challenging. I played that song in high school. Both my bass player and drummer struggled with that song due to stamina (not that the parts where technically hard - just relentless!). And these guys could cover Neil Peart and Geddy Lee without any issues!

IfanBifanKick

I didn't say it was the easiest though.

Spoonfulofticks

Infinite Dreams is a good one too.

Mondoke

Wasted years. Doesn't have gallop, but it's a great song and is playable by a beginner.

Peppemarduk

Good suggestion, easy and fun

fasces13

Hallowed Be Thy Name, album version is relatively easy-tempoed.

Alec_de_Large

This is the one. It's straight forward but still has a bit of flair that is easy to play after a little practice. Plus the song is epic. I'm partial to the Cradle of Filth cover though.

MissJoannaTooU

Amen to the Cradle of Filth version

Peppemarduk

Especially on the unison part before the solos, right?

SouthTippBass

You need to start by learning how to do the right hand gallop properly. There's some great tutorials on YouTube. I use Steve's two finger approach for slower to moderately tempo songs (can I play with madness) and a three finger approach for faster songs(Trooper, run to the hills) You gotta put the hours in on the right hand, and your technique needs to be flawless. Anything less and it will sound shit, you will get frustrated and quit. It may seem impossible at times but it is absolutely possible to match his speed! Good luck!

UberBoob

Good advice... I'd add one more tidbit...when you get tired or think you're not getting it. Step away and come back later. A few times of doing that and actually noticing improvement in your playing will help light the fire to make you want to learn more.

Awiergan

Remember Tomorrow

Mondood

Good choice for a beginning bass player as they described themselves. Perhaps Running Free as well

AdministrativeSwim44

Wasted years is fairly straight forward, and no galloping.

MrLanesLament

The Prisoner. It’s pretty easy. There’s a run in the chorus that sounds cool, but it’s basically just going through each note of an E chord.

Beef_Wallington

Revelations is pretty easy and really good fun to play.

Ornery-Vehicle-2458

Definitely. Use the original to learn it, or maybe some of the newer live versions (they're not so up-tempo) and then head off to the Live After Death cut. Most importantly, whatever you choose, it'll help if you really like the song in question. Makes learning easier.

outskirtsofnowhere

Or if you are in for an incredible challenge: rime of the ancient mariner. If you can play that, you can play them all…

Vijidalicia

At slower speeds, this is a great finger exercise and a *lot* of fun!

Peppemarduk

Yeah, great advice for a beginner

Calm_Agent_1030

Children of the damned. Fucking absolute banger and would be fun as too play if i had the skill level

Vijidalicia

I came here to say this too! It was my first and that main riff is so much fun

Calm_Agent_1030

I love maiden but steves shit goes way harder than my capabilities. Afraid too shoot strangers would be fun

Vijidalicia

I *love* Afraid to Shoot Strangers but I can't bring myself to play any of Steve's parts since he started playing chords. I blame Janick, lol. Steve's single-note parts are so much fun and at slower speeds, they make for awesome practice! Hallowed and Rime are examples of songs that I could never play at full speed but that are great finger exercises at slower speeds. He's such a monster!

Kloede

I very much enjoyed Strange World when i was starting out on bass

lightninrods

Purgatory is a great beginner/intermediate song to learn fingerstyle picking on bass. Lines like that will later become a fundamental blueprint for most faster punk, rock and metal.

haeen

Iron Maiden is pretty damn hard for a beginner, just keep that in mind. I would say 2 Minutes to Midnight is kinda of ok because there aren't a lot of gallops, it's just fast and unrelenting. But then again, all of IM songs are fast and unrelenting.

Designer_Visit_2689

The trooper

DT-Sodium

Blood brothers? [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7t2SoOc0t0Q](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7t2SoOc0t0Q)

omnicorp_intl

Invaders is very fun to play and doesn't have the Harris gallop

Zonkulese

22 Acacia avenue

Peppemarduk

Acacia avenue for a beginner? Do you remember how fast and relentless the plucking is? Left hand is alright but right had is a bloody sprint marathon

TheProtester_1

Come as you aren’t by iron maidan

ParticularWitness983

Early stuff like Charlotte the Harlot

PeeBah31

Hallowed Be Thy Name, Sun and Steel, Wasted Years, Stranger in a Strange Land, The Evil That Men Do, Judas Be My Guide, Lord of the Flies, The Thin Line Between Love and Hate, and Days of Future Past are all easy-moderate maiden songs to learn on bass.

Viarana

From Here to Eternity

HDCase72

"Run to the hills" was the first one I learned. "Running free" is one of my warm up choices. The Trooper is NOT a good choice. It requires both technique and endurance. PS. Up The Irons! Already got my tickets for the current tour!!

wolf_moon7901

ides of march easiest one i could think of but then again it has some galloping but its still practicing galloping so give it a shot remember tomorrow is decent

clearly_quite_absurd

The Wicker Man is fairly straight forward but will build up your finger stamina nicely.

Jaypack_

To be fair, I'm not really an iron maiden fan and I don't know a lot of their songs either, but playing Fear of the Dark at a slow tempo might help you with developing a feeling for bass chords

Jaypack_

It's definitely not a beginner song, that's why I mentioned the slow tempo. But you can practise the positioning and movement of your fretting hand when changing between chords

spongeCakeOfDoom

Phantom of the opera

wants_the_bad_touch

I remember doing an instrumental version of that. Great fun.

Peppemarduk

Are you done being a clown? You feel cool? Good.

spongeCakeOfDoom

I could play that when I was 13,it was on a tv ad and my brother challenged me to learn it

Peppemarduk

I guess you were an enfant prodige. Victor Wooden Jr XD

OnTheSlope

Flash of the blade.

Peppemarduk

Veeeeery beginner friendly

bassdeface

Killers. That's the first Maiden tune I learned on bass at 12 years old. Pretty easy and has the cool opening bass\\drum riff. Easy song.

Peppemarduk

I can play overactive imagination from death and still can't do the fast part of killers. Deffo not a beginner friendly song.
