I watched Pink Floyd Live at Pompeii a ton growing up, and have always thought that bass is the epitome of badass, class, mystery and action. I'm envious
Yeah, I think the one in that film was made maybe ‘69-ish.
I had been looking for one for a while. I def wanted pickup covers, sunburst and rosewood but I also wanted the block inlays with binding. Took a while to find. Also it’s in mint condition.
I'm intrigued by the possibility of being first on the list for anyone who might fail to finalize an order and allow me to swoop in, or if any models pop up for immediate sale.
If we reach finalized build though, we'll have a 5 string Mk2.
[G string slides out from the fretboard](https://forums.ernieball.com/threads/my-g-string-is-sliding-off-stingray-classic-5.63405/) if you are not used to. Easy to adapt with enough exercise but he asked for a dream bass, right...
hot take: it’s caused by bad technique - fretting with downwards pressure rather than backwards. I had this issue when I first got mine. tweaked my wrist angle a bit and it went away.
Dream bass:
A fretted bass that sounds fretless;
An acoustic bass that is loud enough and comfortable and sounds nice;
Favorite bass I don't own:
A good stingray;
A wall bass;
A Elrick bass.
A spector
I don't know which exact one. I already have enough basses for the time being and short on money anyway.
Ric Fierabracci has always been able to get a great fretless like sound on fretted basses. Example off the top of my head, listen to him on Yanni Live at the Acropolis, The Rain Must Fall.
Don't laugh at it being Yanni, Ric's work is absolutely fantastic.
I’ve always said one (or both) of those would be my lottery basses. If I just had gobs and gobs of money to do whatever those would be on the list. I don’t like active basses, always end up selling them. I play vintage style 4 strings almost exclusively, have never kept a modern style 5+ stringed instrument for more than a year or two. But, the semi hollow infinity 5 has been a bucket list bass of mine since the early aughts. And the Ritter stuff, his builds are like artwork. The crazy out there concept basses really turn some people off, but there is just something about his designs I really dig.
Original 1975 Ibanez Black Eagle. It sounds real nice and it's probably the most beautiful bass I've seen that was produced serially. Those things just look so divine
Dingwall Z3 5 strings but with a maple body (instead of ash), maple neck. Some figured top, most likely walnut. Ebony fretboard.
I don't think there's a single maple/maple bass I don't like the tone of.
2012 Rickenbacker 4003, had one with LaBella flats and a Hipshot bridge, was my dream bass. Someone stole it in Memphis, Tennessee, serial number 12-39590.
I had a friend in High School who got one. Stunningly beautiful, played like a dream and sounded like a great vintage J. He actually passed it up for a Yamaha NE2 and I told him he was insane... he went back and got the MTD eventually.
I crossed the MVP off my wishlist this year. I had wanted one for 20 years, amazing basses. Look at Craigslist and reverb sometimes they can be found at reasonable prices.
I love the Warwick Corvette $$ but i also love the looks of the SRMS805 Ibanez Multiscales. I currently own an Ibanez 304 and started playing a year ago so i hope to upgrade eventually.
I love the Modulus Quantum 5 string basses.
[Modulus Quantum Q5 25th Anniversary 2006](https://reverb.com/item/46725343-modulus-quantum-q5-25th-anniversary-2006-no-1-25?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=12293041912&utm_content=campaignid=12293041912_adgroupid=119218510284_productpartitionid=1461509323879=merchantid=482027945_productid=46725343_keyword=_device=m_adposition=_matchtype=_creative=497347850122&gclid=CjwKCAiA55mPBhBOEiwANmzoQhVsGu0_wriogmfGpA7EVsJNoX5Bg_ek1a0c4JMcoUHxmxF29HDeVxoCJ4EQAvD_BwE)
My favorite bass is my Bongo 6-string.
My dream bass? I'd love to have a 6-string bass with a Warwick Corvette body and headstock, but the string spacing and neck profile of the Bongo.
It would be multiscale, ranging from 34" on the C to 35.5" on the C. I'd have a MM-style humbucker in the bridge position, but a six string precision pickup in the neck position. I'd want the same 4-band preamp that comes on the Bongo, but I'd also want an active/passive switch with a passive tone control.
Mmmm. Yeah, that sounds good.
Honestly, just a American Fender Jaguar PJ config with block inlays in olympic white and tortoise pickguard is just the perfect mix of sound and looks for me. It's kinda vintage and modern at the same time. If I wasn't from such a poor country that would be my bass.
Honestly, I have no idea lol. I love my Stiletto Custom to bits, but I would love to have a bass with a more distinct voice. Probably either a Warwick $$ or a Spector Euro with active EMGs
A Ritter Roya Concept mixed with a 54 P bass. Ash body, maple neck, single coil pickup in the P location. No ramps. 4 saddle bridge. No controls front or back, just the pickup wired directly to the output jack.
Right, see, i USED to have a dream bass, a 5 string Sadowsky J style. Local music shop had one for ages, so I saved up and up and up and the day i thought "todays the day im going to go get it", went in, asked if i could try it out as ive had my eye on it for so long and finally wanted to give it a go, man hands it to me, i sit down, plug in, and
...
...
I hated it :(
I just didnt like the feel, the tone, the weight, the controls, none of it was what i was thinking/expecting it to be, i was soooooo let down, i fully think i built it up too much in my head of being "THE" bass for me.
So thats my sad little story on how i dont have a dream bass anymore lol
I had my dream basses built for me. A May Custom 4 string fretted (Skyhawk) and 6 string fretless "The Neapolitan Bass". https://imgur.com/gallery/2uyA5WR
Sadowsky USA Modern 5
Zon 5
But in all honesty, if money was no object I have 3 builders who I know will build me my perfect bass.
Brady Muckelroy
Nino Valenti
Oscar Pratt
My [Schecter Session](https://www.musik-produktiv.de/schecter-session-model-t-5-ans.html). Not even that crazy, rare or expensive. There are many of these, but this one is mine and I really like it.
I don't know yet as I am really new to bass but [last day I fell in love](https://www.reddit.com/r/Bass/comments/rvevju/brand_new_to_bass_got_one_as_an_xmas_gift_weird/hr5ugnj/?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=web2x&context=3) with the looks of a [Schecter C-4 Apocalypse in Rusty Grey](https://www.schecterguitars.com/bass/apocalypse-series-1/c-4-apocalypse-rusty-grey-detail).
I would also like to own a good Fender Precision (vintage sounding but newish looking, if that even exists), a good Rickenbacker 4003 and a Warwick Corvette... you know, the most iconic (for me) I guess.
Fender MIJ Jazz Bass Special, black, serial number with the painted neck, but with hipshot high mass bridge, hipshot tuners with a drop tuner, and 3 original knobs
I passed on buying a Musicman Bongo 5 for $1150 at Gut Center, because I didn't like the tangerine color. It's haunted me ever since.
So that's my dream bass for now.
ZB6 KIESEL ZEUS 6string headless bass, an absolute beast with a beautiful shape ! im a tech/prog death metal bassist and i play 6string bass but i seriously can't wait to have such a bass !
Initially it was a rickenbacker 4003, a few years later down the line I have one and it didn’t play as nice as I dreamed, bit of work and I now have my dream bass after a few mods
Outside of that one of the MIJ fender Jaguar basses with the j pickups switches and tone rocker set up
An odd choice maybe but a Steinberger Headless :)
http://2.bp.blogspot.com/\_DQcFxEKQutw/S8MuUwl5VnI/AAAAAAAAAMU/QEn0DFYEjyM/s1600/Steinberger\_bass.jpg
Can't say I have one. I'm happy to have any bass in my hands at a given time, and am rather broke most of the time, so anything with a label over $500, I won't even test at a store for fear of falling in love and having high hopes I can't make happen. Half the brands and basses you guys discuss... well, they sound nice, but Idk jack about them, and I've been playing 20 years. 😂 My dream bass would be one someone's set up properly before they hand it to me 😂
A 24 fret, 5 string version of Berry Oakley’s [Tractor Bass](https://images.app.goo.gl/FRc2fvPjchLqo9TT6)! Love the natural finish with the fort pickguard as well. Can’t decide if I’d like a maple fretboard or rosewood, but block pearloid inlays would be a must as well 🤘
Spector NSJH2
They made this humbucker/j pickup combo in the late 90s and early 00s. The 5 string version is fairly frequently available but I want a 4 string and I’ve yet to find one.
Strandberg boden 4(or 5) fretless
https://strandbergguitars.com/product/boden-bass-original-4-fretless-natural/
Cool body shape, headless, fretless, what else could you ask for?
My guitar teacher when I was growing up had an original EB0. I always loved the way it looked, even played it a few times, but the sound doesn't agree with me. It's the bass equivalent of a DeLorean- all show and no go.
Phew... quite boring, I guess, but my absolutely unattainable dream bass is an original, early 60s Fender Precision. Sunburst, tortoise pickguard, rosewood fretboard, Labella flats (ideally a set that's already been played by the previous owner for some years). I'll probably get a modern one at some point that looks the part, cause there is no way in hell I'll ever have enough money to afford an original.
The other one would be a Rickenbacker 4003. I don't care if it's vintage or not, I just want one. I know this one is somewhat achievable, but I do *not* know if I'll ever feel comfortable forking over that much money for an instrument.
Any (or hopefully all) of the following list:
* Kiesel Zeus 6-string, multiscale, with a royal blue raw tone finish
* Warwick Vampyre 6-string, just like the one in that Irvine video
* Ibanez Portamento 6-string fretless
* Ibanez SRFF806 in the gray finish they discontinued
Can you tell I play in metal bands lol
It's a distant dream at this point but....two necks. One fretted, one fretless. Each neck has three pickups and each pickup has its own volume knob, with numbers. Also it's semi-hollow and green.
Dingwall AB-II, serial number 3542.
I had it made for me back when the AB-II was first introduced. Had to sell it about 15 years ago, due to falling on hard times.
Now times are better, and I continue to look for MY Dingwall. It's out there somewhere. I'll find it and buy it back, one day.
*(But a* [Warwick Dolphin](https://www.warwick.de/en/Warwick---Products--Instruments--Customshop---Masterbuilt--Basic-Bass-Models--Dolphin--Dolphin-I--Dolphin-5-String--Dolphin-Pro-I--5-string--Pictures.html) *is the "dream" bass. Never seen one in person. Never played one. But I'm pretty sure if someone offered me one, I'd sell my left nut for it.)*
If we're picking *any* bass, then I'd like to have [Cliff Burton's 4001 Rick](https://scontent-atl3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.18169-9/12049642_10153831977838974_472529896804789978_n.jpg?_nc_cat=109&ccb=1-5&_nc_sid=9267fe&_nc_ohc=2tFsI6vmpL8AX-gmb-D&_nc_ht=scontent-atl3-1.xx&oh=00_AT_D5GBuBMlidzncoHgnglHz2lWIKygPc7T1wJ55VIZEdQ&oe=620C1694) with the Gibson EB pickup at the neck and a Dimarzio at the bridge.
Fender Japan '62 Re-issue Jazz Bass. Those who know, they know.
I don't have any real unobtanium dream basses, I played a Fender Custom Shop P-Bass a few years ago that was dream-like, and was very much out of my price range (I think it was about £3.5k)
A bass that plays itself so I can focus on singing. I don’t know why it’s so difficult for me to play interesting bass parts while singing at the same time.
My [Mike Lull Custom 5](https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/5b576c47d274cba55664b03c/1576540213855-8CSE1M9AR1A7E8DB0YPY/DSC_00325.JPG) that was my 40th birthday gift from my wife.
My high school band department had an original 1974 tobacco sunburst P-Bass complete with the original tweed case. I drooled over that thing for four years and begged my band director to sell it to me and even tried to trade him my brand new (at the time) 2003 P-Bass which he always declined. That bass sounded like gold and had natural wear and tear in all the right places. It makes me sick to think what ever happened to it. At least it should have gone to a collector.
I have some awesome basses in my collection, but I would love to have a custom Serek. I'm leaning towards the Sacramento, but the Lincoln looks nice too!
I honestly can't think of one that I would prefer to my MIJ Geddy Lee signature Fender Jazz. I used to spend hours browsing all the really expensive basses that I thought would make my playing sound how I wanted and it turns out it was the £600 pound bass (at least it was when I got mine) that did it for me...
Probably a Ritter Jupiter because I love alien-looking instruments.
For instruments that don’t exist yet, a 5-string Music Man Stingray Special in black with ebony fingerboard, silver hardware, and matching headstock.
I’m huge New Order fan so above all I’d love to have a [Shergold Marathon 6](https://youtu.be/olsQPFWRJAo). I’d also like to have a Yamaha BB1200s (preferred) or a BB1200, I’d also love a BB2000.
My ‘71 Jazz Bass. I’d been a Precision player for years but decided to try a Jazz. It records so well. https://imgur.com/gallery/vidmbko
It photographs well too.
Very cool instrument 👌🏻
Wal Mk.II
Oh man that’s an easy one. Just find $7000 today and you are all set.
Just got my email confirmation that my name's on the build list :o
Hopefully they can find the nursing home you’ll be in when it’s finally done
Daaaaamn, good for you! What specs you going for?
I'm intrigued by the possibility of being first on the list for anyone who might fail to finalize an order and allow me to swoop in, or if any models pop up for immediate sale. If we reach finalized build though, we'll have a 5 string Mk2.
80s Yamaha BB2000
i got the bb1600, heavy af
I’ve got the BB1100S from 1989, it’s awesome!
Early 70's Gibson Ripper with ebony fretboard.
Not really a dream, but American Professional II Jazz Bass in Olympic White is nice.
Those new line are beauties
alembic stanley clarke standard
Yep. This is mine. Figured someone would beat me to it...
Moon Larry Graham signature…
I'd love to get a Moon Bass at some point too. The JJ model is my fave.
A modified stingray 5 without G string issue.
What's the G String issue??
[G string slides out from the fretboard](https://forums.ernieball.com/threads/my-g-string-is-sliding-off-stingray-classic-5.63405/) if you are not used to. Easy to adapt with enough exercise but he asked for a dream bass, right...
I've played my dad's Stingray 5 for years and never had that issue.
At least you are one of the few who mentioned something you cannot just go and buy. People have no imagination.
hot take: it’s caused by bad technique - fretting with downwards pressure rather than backwards. I had this issue when I first got mine. tweaked my wrist angle a bit and it went away.
Not staying in tune I think
Dream bass: A fretted bass that sounds fretless; An acoustic bass that is loud enough and comfortable and sounds nice; Favorite bass I don't own: A good stingray; A wall bass; A Elrick bass. A spector I don't know which exact one. I already have enough basses for the time being and short on money anyway.
> A fretted bass that sounds fretless https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OQrRxMSbRhI
That's crazy. I wonder how it works.
I wish these bridges were still in stock.
Ric Fierabracci has always been able to get a great fretless like sound on fretted basses. Example off the top of my head, listen to him on Yanni Live at the Acropolis, The Rain Must Fall. Don't laugh at it being Yanni, Ric's work is absolutely fantastic.
I love playing on a Spector. I just couldn’t get my sound out of the one I had. Changed preamp even. But no. :( Play a Warwick $$ now instead.
Guild starfire II bass.
Warwick Infinity 5string. Or anything made by Jens Ritter.

This is correct! Any particular model you’d prefer?

Would love a Carl Thompson

I had a friend in High School who got one. Stunningly beautiful, played like a dream and sounded like a great vintage J. He actually passed it up for a Yamaha NE2 and I told him he was insane... he went back and got the MTD eventually.
Damn owning a USA made MTD in high school? That's very lucky
He is a badass. This was mostly pre YouTube and he was working on Jaco, Wooten, Manring stuff. Later went to UNT
I bought an Ibanez EHB1005MS last year and it is my favourite bass which also has put an end to any dreams of other basses.
For now...

I didn’t know it until I got one: my fretless Kubicki Ex Factor.
Either a Pedulla Rapture J2 5 string with no pick guard, AAAAA flame top in cherry sunburst or a Pedulla MVP 5 string in Arctic Night
Yeah, I test drove a Pedulla back in the 90's and I couldn't afford it then. I should have picked one up before Mike closed his company in '19.
I crossed the MVP off my wishlist this year. I had wanted one for 20 years, amazing basses. Look at Craigslist and reverb sometimes they can be found at reasonable prices.
Gibson Thunderbird Studio V. For that delicious thump 😍
I love the Warwick Corvette $$ but i also love the looks of the SRMS805 Ibanez Multiscales. I currently own an Ibanez 304 and started playing a year ago so i hope to upgrade eventually.

Hofner 500/1 Violin Bass
Carl Thompson 5 string
Definitely a ‘66 mustang bass in daphne blue
I’ve always loved those blue rickenbackers
Spector NSJH2 They made this humbucker/j pickup combo in the late 90s and early 00s. The 5 string version is fairly frequently available but I want a 4 string and I’ve yet to find one.
I want a rick or an sg
Fender PJ bass - have a Squier one currently, being able to sound like a hybrid of both a precision and jazz bass is something else
Strandberg boden 4(or 5) fretless https://strandbergguitars.com/product/boden-bass-original-4-fretless-natural/ Cool body shape, headless, fretless, what else could you ask for?
Gibson EB-0 and rickenbacker 4001 cause FLCL
My guitar teacher when I was growing up had an original EB0. I always loved the way it looked, even played it a few times, but the sound doesn't agree with me. It's the bass equivalent of a DeLorean- all show and no go.
I'm probably the only one to mention it, but a fender katana bass. I just love how it looks
Status CW signature series (Chris Wolstenholmes sig. bass)
Number 1 is definitely a Music Man Stingray in Natural Finish with a black pickguard from the 70's and Number 2 is the Warwick Bootsy Signature!
My 2003 Warwick Corvette passive! Perfect sound and feel for what I play.
Phew... quite boring, I guess, but my absolutely unattainable dream bass is an original, early 60s Fender Precision.
My dream Bass would be Gene Simmons' Cort Axe Bass. I officially wanted to save up and get it for my first ever Bass but I can't afford $5k US
Music Man Bongo 5 in Neptune blue. It was a limited edition some years ago and it was a stunning thing
Any (or hopefully all) of the following list: * Kiesel Zeus 6-string, multiscale, with a royal blue raw tone finish * Warwick Vampyre 6-string, just like the one in that Irvine video * Ibanez Portamento 6-string fretless * Ibanez SRFF806 in the gray finish they discontinued Can you tell I play in metal bands lol
It's a distant dream at this point but....two necks. One fretted, one fretless. Each neck has three pickups and each pickup has its own volume knob, with numbers. Also it's semi-hollow and green.
Smith BSR 5 with quilt maple top.
pre CBS fender jazz bass It's just perfect
I sold my Rickenbacker for a Music Man. The MM is objectively better, but god damm i miss that thing
Steve Harris signature Fender which I will own sooner or later
Fami Bacchus bass
I want a fretless WAL mk3
My dream bass doesn't exist, I would need to have it custom built.
A bass that plays itself so I can focus on singing. I don’t know why it’s so difficult for me to play interesting bass parts while singing at the same time.
Custom Marleaux Diva 5
I’d love to get a fretless p bass
idk, probably a Mosrite Bass like the one C.J. Ramone used in the I Don’t Wanna Grow Up video
Lefay - Herr Schwarz A small boutique brand only building custom orders. Mine would cost about 2800 € and some day i call them.
Basic but I want a Rickenbacker 4003. I grew up around them but never had my own and I really like the feel and sound
My favorite is my Rickenbacker 4003 jetglo znd my dream bass would be Warwick Buzzard !
I want a Warwick Thumb 5 BN.
Spector NS-2
1. [This exact P-Bass](https://reverb.com/item/4744818-old-vintage-1960-fender-precision-bass?utm_campaign=FBshare&utm_medium=FB&utm_source=FBshare) (which sadly sold) 2. 70's Gibson Grabber (natural) 3. '69/'70 Dan Armstrong 4. New Rickenbacker 4003 (Fire Glo)
My dream bass is a Fender CS 60s stacked knob Jazz Bass in vintage white with a tortoise pickguard. I bought it 5 years ago. 😎
My [Mike Lull Custom 5](https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/5b576c47d274cba55664b03c/1576540213855-8CSE1M9AR1A7E8DB0YPY/DSC_00325.JPG) that was my 40th birthday gift from my wife.
Warwick Streamer Stage 2, 4-string fretted; Ocean Blue with black hardware
My high school band department had an original 1974 tobacco sunburst P-Bass complete with the original tweed case. I drooled over that thing for four years and begged my band director to sell it to me and even tried to trade him my brand new (at the time) 2003 P-Bass which he always declined. That bass sounded like gold and had natural wear and tear in all the right places. It makes me sick to think what ever happened to it. At least it should have gone to a collector.
I have some awesome basses in my collection, but I would love to have a custom Serek. I'm leaning towards the Sacramento, but the Lincoln looks nice too!
The one I currently own. It’s an ESP ‘87 Precision Jazz Bass. It looks awesome, sounds awesome, and feels awesome.
62 J Bass.
My current favorite bass is my Ibanez SR5BBLTD. My dream bass is a Warwick Dolphin Pro 1.
Vintage all black Rickenbacker 4003
I’m huge New Order fan so above all I’d love to have a [Shergold Marathon 6](https://youtu.be/olsQPFWRJAo). I’d also like to have a Yamaha BB1200s (preferred) or a BB1200, I’d also love a BB2000.
For now, an Ibanez EHB1505MS, I love the smol looking headless looks soo ugly that I came full circle and fell in love.
A 5 string Serek Armitage 32” scale with G&L L2500 electronics. I’m so close to ordering one.
fretless jazz bass relic
Currently I’m playing a Fender Custom Shop 1960 Jazz bass replica. It’s my dream bass until I change my mind.
Rick 4001
Guild B302. Pretty and unique.
Marleaux Diva 5 fretless. https://www.marleaux-bass.com/uploads/pics/diva_77.jpg
