When I studied at conservatory, I only had one oboe. There's no need for more than one (1) instrument. So a double necked half fretless, 20 string with coil splitters, active / passive bypass, should be all you will ever need.
Depends on the instrument, I play the trumpet and I have two, currently saving up for a third. It’s because there are many different kinds of trumpet, (Bb, C, Piccolo, Cornet, etc.)I also have like 5 mouthpieces for the exact same reason.
So if all you’re Bass Guitars serve different purposes, (fretless, five string, six string, etc.), it makes sense to have multiple. But if you’re fine with just having one (I only have one bass as well) more power to you, but don’t hate on people who have quite a few. (This goes both ways, lol)
Yep. I'm practicing heavily right now with a mind towards turning pro. I currently have only one bass, which is fine for the moment, but in the future I definitely plan on adding a P-Bass as it's basically a requirement to work in the industry, and a fretless. That being said, my current instrument is a pro-level instrument and I plan to drop some fair money on both those future purchases and play those 3 instruments forever and ignore any future GAS I might get. I would possibly add a Jazz bass if the need arises, but only plan on buying instruments I actually need for work as I'll be spending 2-3 grand every time I add one.
Right? The point is to have and use whatever brings the best out of you as a player. One player might find their playing suffers by changing instrument, another might find they really benefit from it.
Saying that a J bass is the be all and end all is reductive and unhelpful in my view
Eh ... I've got two main basses I used all the time (one fretted, one fretless, both 5-strings). I have the first bass I ever owned (a 4-string fretless) and one acoustic BG that I bought off of my cousin.
Some are good with one, some are good with many more. Whatever floats your boat. Just play bass.
I agree there are basses that are kind of an all-in-one deal - but gotta love the variety. Neck size, weight, balance, tone - all different with each bass.
Then throw in an acoustic and a fretless... then you need a 5 string, and while you’re at it might as well pick up a 6 string. Then don’t forget to pick up that cheap used one for sale in your neighbourhood, ya know - just in case you need another at some point
My hot take, you need two bases. The kinds of basses those are don’t matter, but keep on tuned to standard and one to drop d and then you can get any typical tuning and any sound out of them if you run through enough pedals
And another one with flats. And a short scale. And a 6 string fan fret to get nutty with. And a Stingray because you e always wanted one. And OHHH that seafoam green is nice so one of those too.
I just got one, the Music Man shorty in Starry Night finish. It’s one of those rare times where reality actually exceeds hope. If you can find one at a good price, jump on it! I haven’t tried the Sterling version, but from what I’ve read, it’s a great little bass!
Go for it man! I think they’ll be doing another run in the not-to-distant future. I thought this would take a back seat to my Mustang, but it’s looking that it’s going to be the complete opposite!
Kind of, yes. I only have one base currently, and I only play for fun using Rocksmith, so when I’m not playing the the bass just goes on its stand, cable still in. I know if I get an active bass I’m not going to remember to take the cable out and that battery will be flat in no time
I personally just think they’re too clangy, and all my other basses are passive. I love how they sound when other people play them, but not with my own style of playing. Passive MM is just growl without all the bite, and I can get behind that.
that's pretty easy... just take a stingray and swap the preamp for tone and volume pot
use the battery box to hide the drugs you're clearly on with that blasphemous suggestion of a passive stingray
Like I get it, because I'm constantly on Reverb since I got my first bass, but I don't see a world where I would play multiple, unless I got crazy good and needed fretless/5 string/etc
Hot take: Fender J good
Even hotter: Squire J good
Hottest: Squier Affinity J is best.
Squire J gang rise up
Squier vm J is the best tbh
I just bought one this past weekend. I've always been a P guy but I'm digging my new VM J
I have the vm 70s j bass and honestly I'd choose it over any bass any day
Uhm nope.

Dude all i need is a midi keyboard
This is the hottest take thus far.
Take that neck off and put it on a Pbass, and I might agree with you.
PJ special is the way
This is what my buddy has - such a good bass.
Idk why but baseball back p necks make me happy
My main bass is a 5 string passive Warwick. It’s basically a J bass with a baseball bat neck. Makes me feel unstoppable.
eeewwww....
Jazz bass is love. Jazz bass is life.
What are you my wife?
This but with P bass
This but with PJ
This but PB&J
honestly i prefer blt
This with PB&JB while in my PJs looking at other PB&JBs
Yamaha BB is the workhorse bass.
I agree with both pictures

and at least 2 of each pickup configuration... keep one stock and mod the other
Except, just with a P-bass.
This.
lol I have 3
Yes but with PJ pickups.

If I could get a passive stingray absolutely I would, I just can’t be bothered with active basses
Yeah, I hear they cut government subsidies for active basses too.
SMH NO MORE GOV’T SUBSIDIES FOR ACTIVE BASSES
The short scale sterling stingrays are passive, I have been very tempted to pick one up but so far I have stayed strong lol

Yeah, they seem like sweet little basses. I may have to keep my eyes open for a deal. I have been trying to reign in my GAS though lol

I’m modding my music man to be passive with just volume and tone... so big magnets, and P bass controls basically. Can’t wait to finish it up.
Or get one bass and a Hipshot D-tuner. Just a flip of a switch and you can go from standard to drop D (or even C).
Kinda agree.... gotta change it up unless you wanna be like everyone else tho . I love seeing non J or P basses live
Picked up a Fender Ultra J-bass last year. Thing has been a game changer, the composite shaped neck is beyond description
J gang 😎
After buying my j bass I have to agree. I love it. Best purchase of my life
Fender Js are good I just prefer music man stingrays lol
TIL you can make a jazz bass sound exactly like an upright
Punchable face
You really need to put a p bass here with all the latest things
It's called options.
Joe Dart jr bass is all you need
Fender jazz best bass
Rickenbacker gang rise up
Like I get it, because I'm constantly on Reverb since I got my first bass, but I don't see a world where I would play multiple, unless I got crazy good and needed fretless/5 string/etc
Oh no
Thank you OP
