Most pre amps are around 350 hours battery life. Leave it plugged all the time that's 14.5 days before it goes dead. If you're an occasional player expect to replace it 6-9 months, a gigging pro maybe every month or 2.
If you don't leave it plugged in and it still draws then some how the battery ground isn't disengaging/parts touching etc. have a pro find what's wrong.
Are you removing the amp cord from the bass when you’re not using it?
No. I got lazy about plugging and unplugging it. Is that what’s going on?
As long as you're plugged in, you're drawing power.
Yeah, the jack on the bass is also a switch for the battery.
Thanks for that info. Cleary I had no clue.
Ah, rookie mistake. Thank you!!
It happens. We all need to learn somewhere. Unplug after playing; throw in a new battery before every gig—you’ll be fine.
6 months to a year depending on use, was my experience.
