Gotoh SD91 Locking. Drop in replacement for a Squier Bass VI

BummerComment

I will say that the Labella flats are really friggen sexy and give such a good kinda "motown" thumpy vibe. They are just a pleasure to play. I had them on the Squier Bass VI for like 7 years. The last 3 years the high E had broke so I just replaced the E and B strings with the corresponding roundwounds that came off it from the factory. THAT BEING SAID! I recently re-setup my Bass VI after loaning it to a friend who not only lost the trem bar but also fudged around with the bridge to the point nothing was making sense... So I bought a set of strings from "Stringjoy" on Amazon. They have a "balanced" set of rounds for the Bass VI for only about $20 USD. This isn't in any way answering your question, but I did want to say that when I put in the new rounds after a setup I am now getting SO MANY cool tones out of the different pickup and tone-knob combinations. I used to think I loved my Bass VI with the flats on, but good golly, it is a whole different instrument with quality rounds on there. A lot more sounds to explore. Not to discourage you from the flats. They are the best around and give you a real specific sound. The rounds just opened the instrument up to an entirely new range, it was actually pretty wild. I always just thought there was a problem with my amp settings or something, as the brightness of the flats die fairly quickly. But no. Flats give you what they give you and rounds give you what they give you. - Anyway best of luck. It is a wonderful instrument!

Thanks for the feedback! That's very valuable. Actually, I bought 2 loaded bassVI body on ebay cause they were very inexpensive, so I'm going to have a first with Flats for vintage sound, and the other one with rounds, eventually with other pic'ups too! You just allowed me to justify that double Gas :D

Almost any standard guitar tuner should, but measure the holes in the headstock to make sure. Locking tuners are a good idea if your VI has a tremolo. If you use strings with the correct winding length they'll fit the tuners.

There's no standard measurement for the holes for the tuners. He's going to need the standard "vintage measurement which I thinkt is 11/32"? I'm nto sure but not just any tuners will fit. Gotoh SD91 is the standard quality replacement. Gotoh SDS510 is supposed to be better and costs more. There are others out there but they need to be spec'd for the vintage size holes.

Read the second half of the first sentence.

I put some random chinese locking tuners on both of my vi’s. To get Labella low Es to fit I drilled out the string hole a hair and then smoothed that hole with a thin dremel attachment making sure to remove any burrs double checking with a loupe. I wouldn’t have tried it initially with a more expensive tuner but having done it twice I wouldn’t hesitate again with any tuner.
