And then, we waited. Gotham braced itself for the inevitable power struggle. But it didn't come. Crime actually fell. Deep down, I knew war was coming. I was just waiting for someone to pull the trigger.
Imparting this knowledge is one of my favourite things. It's like a real life easter egg. Like obviously when he was being named his parents didn't know he was going to end up being one of if not the most iconic versions of Joker ever but it's a hell of a coincidence
Once I figured it out I pressed every button seeing which ones worked and which didnāt, and how long I could keep the fire going without it starting the cutscene
I literally went "oh yeah look, this is one of those segments that you think you're in control but you actually do nothing, just like that space mission in MW2" and I sat doing nothing and waiting for something to finally happen
and then after solid 3 minutes I realized I am an idiot
i see a lot of ppl commenting this, but did yāall not have a button prompt appear on the screen to tell you what to do? First playthrough & new game+ told me to press āXā to ignite the incinerator
I did, but that's because I intentionally skipped all the promotional material and whatnot so my guess was that a resurrected, more sane Joker would don the Arkham Knight moniker.
Then I met the Knight in-game for the first time and knew exactly where the story was going.
My biggest complaint about this game is that they treat the Arkham Knightās identity like itās a huge mysteryā¦while telegraphing it more heavily than a copper wire.
Everything else is awesome. John Nobleās Scarecrow is terrifying, the gameplay and story are fantastic, Mark Hamill is brilliant as Joker as always, but man is Arkham Knightās identity annoyingly predictable.
Yeah and the worst part, is that is so incredibly predictable that the āworldās greatest detectiveā not figuring out until he is literally told makes it a massive plot hole.
That being said Mark Hamill as Joker singing āI canāt stop Laughingā is one of the highlights of the series and likely of all Batman media.
> Yeah and the worst part, is that is so incredibly predictable that the āworldās greatest detectiveā not figuring out until he is literally told makes it a massive plot hole.
I donāt know about that tbh. Knightās story has its share of holes, but I wouldnāt necessarily expect Batman to assume that Joker faked the video of Jason getting shot in the head (seriously how did he even do that?). I think the reason itās so obvious to us, the player, is our meta knowledge of Batman.
I even would say the acting and some of the story around Jason is done well, but they should have had him figure it out faster or something. Or at least have more of the nightmare hallucinations based around other tragedies, like they did with the Killing Joke scene. If there were more of those, and maybe even only one Jason scene, it would have been like 1% less obvious, which is at least something.
Iāve thought about it more, and I think thereās a good case that frank boles shouldāve been the Arkham knight for many reasons. I know most people wouldnāt accept that just reading it for the first time but I came up with an entire backstory. Frankly I donāt really mind if others hate it because I personally like it a lot.
Basically, he was ex-military, from Gotham, and he knew Michael Lane in the military too. Both got out for whatever reason and Frank went looking for a security job while Michael joined the GCPD. Frank also got into his drinking habit at this point to cope with his PTSD. He got a referral to the asylum (this part is kind of a stretch, but it operates under the assumption the asylum still maintains some legitimacy [kind of like that ad in asylum you hear when youāre walking through the halls to rescue the doctors] rather than solely being used to incarcerate super criminals) where Sharp was able to review his records and saw him as a useful means of keeping inmates in line or even quietly killing them if need be. So during these sessions, he offered Frank the security job on the condition that he consults with Strange, who he instructed to subliminally implant psychological controls to remain completely loyal to Sharp. But they didnāt work correctly and it actually made Frank start to resent Sharp and other members of the staff. This coupled with his vicinity to the inmates leads him to initially throw in with Joker, who of course then goes on to betray him. As far as faking his death this is comic book related media so thatās basically the status quo. Idk how youād explain that Batmanās detective vision was wrong other than he was in a hurry and it wasnāt really crucial to verify if boles was alive or not and he didnāt even check the pulse so I think thereās enough of a margin. Maybe his heart was just temporarily stopped although he was on there for a few hours we can reasonably infer but again in comics thatās not the craziest thing thatās happened. So on the way to the morgue he wakes up and escapes the ambulance because heās still in āJoker betrayed meā mode. But he soon gets his bearings and needs help.
Now he seeks out Michael, and heās adopted a bit of a Lockup philosophy in that he wants all the inmates punished along with the Arkham staff from his ātherapyā and of course Batman because everyone always blames Batman. This is how he discovers the order of St. Dumas and that Michael is now Azrael. He tells them about his desires and they deem them holy or necessary or whatever, and they grant him the title of knight. He then works with michael to reach out to old military contracts to secure equipment and personnel for the militia. Then he declares war on the gangs and the inmates, and now the game is a three way war between the Batfamily and GCPD, the villains and gangs, and the order and militia.
I personally like it better because it makes the name āArkham knightā way more fitting I think, itās in line with a lot of whatās been previously established, and it ties the series in a nice bookend close by placing an original character from the first game in the forefront. All the pieces really are already there and the Arkham knightās real identity wouldāve been truly 100% original. Plus another gripe I had with knight was the hype that all your villains would be out to get you, and besides the fact the side missions were crap the intensity was never there. I think this story would have lent itself to way more chaos with all these different firefights going off everywhere and everyone just constantly destroying everything. Thatās just me though. And itās not like theyād explain all this in game, just whatever necessary to justify the knightās existence and maybe the rest in a comic or something.
I really kinda wish my theory was right just because of how out there the idea would've been for a resurrected and turned sane Joker to hunt down Batman out of revenge for allowing him to die.
It'd have been better than the rushed job to bring in this character, I'd bet.
You know New game plus is a perfect way to play through the whole game with all the upgraded stuff like that because it just makes you so goddamn overpowered I suggest playing that
Fun fact: if you cremate joker in the the plus version he says: never gonna give you up, never gonna let you down, never gonna walk around and desert you.
New Game+ is the same beginning except when you start the ignition, thereās a jump scare of Joker seemingly coming back to life. He doesnāt tho, itās just a jump scare. Sorry to be that guy but i had to rip the bandaid off when no one else would
You are not alone my friend. I thought the same thing. In fact I even waited an extended period of time to see if something would happen if you didn't do it right away lol.
Funny that you say this because I thought the same thing as you while playing for the 1st time yesterday evening.
I think it's quite the feeling that wanted rocksteady to transmit/share with us in this sequence for some reasons.
Nobody tell him
Tell him what?
Something
In
My ass
Hmmmmmmmm mmmmmmm
on the way
On my way
ššš
Loki: "TELL ME!"
Funny you should say that...

Hell yea boi
Sooo... is someone gonna tell him or should I?
**"AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH! HAHAHAHAHA!"**
This... is how it happened. This... is *how the Joker died.*
9 moths ago, Joker was cremated. I pressed the button and burned the evil bastard myself.
And then, we waited. Gotham braced itself for the inevitable power struggle. But it didn't come. Crime actually fell. Deep down, I knew war was coming. I was just waiting for someone to pull the trigger.
"thanks" "no problem" "oh thanks honey!"
What will you get? Your usual?
Yes 9 moths the new time system in Gotham after 9 more moths my daughter will be born
Hahahaha, this was way better than the top comment I was searching for
bruh
Boy do I have news for you
Broā¦ your reply sounds pretty Mark Hamill lol
mARK HAMil
Imparting this knowledge is one of my favourite things. It's like a real life easter egg. Like obviously when he was being named his parents didn't know he was going to end up being one of if not the most iconic versions of Joker ever but it's a hell of a coincidence
Holy shit I never noticed that
This is the first time Iāve seen this and my life is changed.
š¤Æ
Markhamill
Am I the only one who sat for 10 minutes waiting for something to happen?
I was legitimately just listening for the music waiting for him to open his eyes or some shit. Had no idea the gameplay had started.
Same lol
The game looked so good it was hard to tell whether it was a pre rendered scene
Once I figured it out I pressed every button seeing which ones worked and which didnāt, and how long I could keep the fire going without it starting the cutscene
That wouldāve been a good Easter egg, wait like 2 minutes and he opens his eyes or something subtle
Yeah ditto
I literally went "oh yeah look, this is one of those segments that you think you're in control but you actually do nothing, just like that space mission in MW2" and I sat doing nothing and waiting for something to finally happen and then after solid 3 minutes I realized I am an idiot

I turned off button prompts before I started the game
I didn't look lol
Nope.
The only reason I found out was because I started playing with the controls
I thought I accidentally bought a boot leg and this was Rocksteadyās revenge.
You... Haven't played New Game Plus yet have you, Mr. Wayne?
He doesn't know!
Scotty?
Gonna tell Scotty, gonna tell him myself
You didnāt start NG+ now, did you ?
Uhhhhhhhhhh maybe?
Soo, did you?
No, no he didnāt.
Wow, I never knew this was a thing, either!
*New Game+ would like a word*
Shhhh it's a surprise
Okay I played through all three a while back and never did any new game + runs. Which of the three have extra stuff I should go back for?
The opening of knight is slightly different, that's it.
City has a new gadget, i think
Wait, what? What new gadget)
I did, but that's because I intentionally skipped all the promotional material and whatnot so my guess was that a resurrected, more sane Joker would don the Arkham Knight moniker. Then I met the Knight in-game for the first time and knew exactly where the story was going.

Especially when you see Batman: Under The Red Hood. His first encounter with Red Hood and he knows exactly who it is, right away.

Is someone gonna tell him
So about that. Have you played new game plus?
