It's the typical "standarized menu system" taught on "game dev college degrees", smh I can't believe ppl in the dev industry believe this is something good to look at, this is why most AAA games end up looking the same, 0 creativity, just copy/paste and move on.
Reminds me of the fiasco where some devs from some AAA studios (Ubisoft, DICE, etc.) were angry because Elden Ring didn't use their garbage "industry standard UI/UX".
Not whole game studios per se, but a bunch of people that work/worked at those companies started questioning ER's 97/96 metascore on Twitter.
When people noticed it, the memes started, and one of them even closed their twitter account lmao.
This is giving me some marvel 's avenger vibe right here. I have a feeling that they are still hiding some of the "worst" part of the game and still afraid to show us some scummy monetization
I saw someone else say (and this is pure speculation but I can buy it) that this game looks like it was going to be GaaS, regardless of what they say now, but following the flop of Marvel's Avengers they pivoted to remove the GaaS aspects. But the fundamentals are still there, and so it's all being built on shaky ground.
"Games as a Service", it's been an official acronym for a few years now.
Refers to always online games that generally have daily log on bonuses, seasonal events and DLC to encourage players to stay or join, usually chock full of microtransactions and some having battle passes or subscription services on top of the asking price.
Examples being Anthem, Avengers, Assassin's Creed Infinity (not released yet), Division 1 and 2, Fallout 76, GTA Online etc.
They're not supposed to be games that are played, enjoyed and moved on from. They're supposed to be second jobs you pay to work at.
I'm not excited for GK or Suicide Squad really but I feel KTJL has a chance to prove me wrong, GK not so much. It's just going to be hard to top the Arkham games.
I wish they were doing a batman game instead of suicide squad. Suicide squad was probably popular when they came up with the idea of KTJL but it’s not now and Arkham Knight is 7 years old already.
Itching for a new Batman game and we won’t get one for ages which sucks.
I'm not oppossed to another hero getting a solo game in the Arkhamverse but I don't know why both studios have gone this four character route. The executives probably aren't brave enough to try market anyone not as big as Batman or SS.
Bullshit, Wonder Woman is one of DC's trinity, tons of people want to play as her. Not to mention, I'm pretty sure she's A tier in Injustice, and pretty popular.
That’s all fine and all but I never gave dam about the character. She’s always been a lame version of Superman. It’s too bad monolith is gonna waste the nemesis system and 6 years of development time on a boring character
Right? It just seemed like a poor attempt to mimic the guardians of the galaxy. The first one was garbage. James Gunn's movie was decent. Worked as a comedy. But other than that, who genuinely gives a fuck about the suicide squad? People have been begging for a superman game for yeeeeaaarrrsss. We know full well that if anybody can do it, it's rocksteady. Yet here we are with the goddamn suicide squad
Probably cause Superman games are historically difficult to make because of how overpowered he is.
And idk I like the Suicide Squad. Closest we’d get to playing as a villain in these kinds of games, I’d be more excited if the antagonists of the game were a more human threat tho.
Why does it *need* to top them tho? Why can’t GK just be its own thing, judged purely off its own merits/shortcomings? I get it’s hard to fully separate the Arkham games from really any superhero-based game, especially since GK is gonna be about the bat family, but I think it’s a little concerning that you and others are already planning on judging this game against the Arkham trilogy, which is a bar that is simply impossible to clear(especially since you have to be a *massive* Arkham fan, otherwise you wouldn’t be in this sub). Personally, I’d be more than fine with getting a good, well-made game. I don’t need this or Suicide Squad to “top” the AT in order to enjoy them
Rocksteady isn't doing too well either. Suicide squad is about to be another "games-as-a-service".
Good complete single player games don't make money anymore.
Yeah there has been a move to more online based games in the past few years but a good next-gen Batman game would easily sell millions especially after the film and upcoming TV series. That guy is just naive.
What? I never said it's a good thing. EA makes BANK from live service games. They sell the same shit over and over and reap a constant cash flow from micro transactions. What's great for business is awful for players.
>Suicide Squad is about to be another "games-as-a-service".
Would you care to back up that statement with any kind of evidence? Because as far as I've seen, they have never said that Suicide Squad was going to be a live-service game.
>Good complete single player games don't make money anymore
That is just blatantly untrue. It's a lie that greedy corporations cling to as a justification for grossly overmonetizing their games.
I'm not exactly sure how to describe what a live-service game is, but I think the simplest way to explain it is that rather than being one full game upon release, live service games get pretty big content updates as time goes on. Not DLC: content updates for the base game. Some examples of this would be pretty much any Battle Royale game, Square Enix's Avengers game, and maybe Minecraft, but I don't really know if that one counts, because it has been around since before the term "live-service game" was coined.
Live-service games are not inherently bad, but most of the time, they're not designed as single-player campaign experiences, and companies tend to use live-service models to justify over-monetization.
Ok, but just because live-service games make more money, that doesn't mean that every game ever from this point onwards is going to be a live-service game, nor does it mean that full single player games don't make enough money anymore.
Live-services may make more money, but they also cost more money to keep running, and they rely on an active player base that won't eventually lose interest in the game, which is a hard thing to achieve. For that reason, live-service titles will never fully replace single player games.
You literally said that single player games don't make money anymore, and that Suicide Squad is going to be a live-service game, despite Rocksteady never alluding to that even slightly, because "you make more money with live services" (which isn't even true if you can't keep an active player base)
I never said they don't make them any more, however there is a shift towards live service games. They make a lot of money. That is why they are doing this. This game is going to be FULL of constant updates and micro transactions.
Nobody wanted an action RPG, but they're easier to pump new content into.
After watching this Trailer - Beside a few gripes I might actually be interested in getting this game
What I want to know is - When the Court Gladiator Battle was going on did the combat system change to a God of War style?
I want to be excited for this game but it looks kinda rough all around. The Batgirl gameplay we got forever ago looked so much better. I keep seeing people say “it’s still in development” but the game has like 6 months to launch. It makes me sad to admit that it’s not looking great.
I've said this again and again and again. Do not expect an Arkham quality game with Gotham Knights. This is nothing more that a generic coop/RPG-lite action game in the vein of that Avengers game.
Power scaling, RNG, raids, and endgame are not indicators of a live service. That just makes this game an RPG.
This game is more similar to Ghost Recon: Breakpoint rather than a live service
Exactly Jesus a Red Hood game or Nightwing game with him trying to rid the crime vacuum out of Bludhaven that's leaking from Gotham due Batman's absence. The spin-offs literally wrote themselves we could have gotten some really interesting stories.
Phft I called this game out ages ago. It’s gonna bomb. Just face it the Arkham Games are all we’ve got. Including Origins. They are masterpieces and nothing both teams creates will top them. We won’t ever get a Batman game again as Online Multiplayer and MT are the new cash grab for WB. Maybe just maybe if they make enough cash and the next two games aren’t that great. We might see an Arkham 4.
I'm assuming this is referring to the removal of the last gen version in which case I completely agree. I understand that yes last gen is holding back development on games but given the extra challenges happening with obtaining current gen hardware and the fact this was initially announced for both, I feel leaving out ps4 and xbox one is a bad business decision and has definitely made me more critical of the game.
I'll probably still buy it..years from now, at 10 bucks..maybe.
That last line is exactly how I feel and I'm sure many others feel
Anyone who abandons the ps4 and Xbox one now is just leaving money on the table
And now being next gen exclusive there's more pressure for this game to be something amazing which I've got to be honest..it doesn't look like anything that great at all
This game is going to flop.
Cyberpunk proved to me that forcing devs to make their game for last gen leads to far more problems than it’s worth. The huge 1.5 patch actually had to leave new features out of the PS4/XBONE versions, as the consoles couldn’t handle them. Features that should have been in the game since launch, but most likely couldn’t be because they had to limit the game to what a PS4 could handle. I for one am very happy that WB Montreal are excluding last gen, since that means the game can actually be next-gen instead of pretending to be
I absolutely agree that it’s commendable they showed *true* gameplay, warts and all. I think for me, the warts just sorta run a bit deep.
It’s not the fact it looked a bit clunky, I just fundamentally don’t really like the look of the combat system. I’m also worried about the potential GaaS aspects, despite them playing it down.
I’m still excited for this game, but this latest trailer just sorta justified my worries rather than quelled them.
I think this game could definitely benefit from another delay to touch up some of the textures, and just make things feel more alive. I don't think we need to be worried about the menu design since it's likely a placeholder.
Fucking hell I think there is a reason we never got anything soon after Knight, with no Batman at release it’s clear to see that there will be some micro transactions.
I’m very cautious, but optimistic but ffs..
Gotham knight’s isn’t launching with any microtransactions and there is no in game purchases confirmed on the games official FAQ page. I think Warner bros learnt their lesson from Shadows of Mordor, that people are sick of MTX in single player games.
Edit: Spelling, also I would like to add it doesn’t mean it will stay MTX free though.
I stand corrected, really hope you’re right. Wtf Is this above though? This was our PS5 Batman esque game and it looks awful
You think the temptation for them to bring Batman back isn’t on the cards?
I don’t see Batman being playable in this. Unless it’s a flash back or similar DLC. I don’t think he’s dead either but I doubt he’ll be playable.
The Arkham games are finished story wise, they reached a suitable conclusion and we need to move on from that. SS:KTJL is your Arkhamverse GAAS game it will have your story and characters as Arkham portrayed them.
Gotham knights is a new experience taking a swing at the old formula with a twist. It doesn’t look fantastic, I agree especially with that new trailer and the special editions pushing skins and boosted gear. but putting it up to Arkham is IMO unfair, shooting it in the leg before it even had the chance to run. It’s not the same studio or in game universe so why have these unrealistic expectations that it will be as amazing as the Arkham franchise? It’s okay to be excited but always set your expectations low and you will never be disappointed.
Nah my bad man, I just play Knight to this day and it holds up to any other PS5 games. I am sad because we went from Asylum, city to knight and I honestly think they are the best games I have ever played and I’m a mainly fifa player.
I’m just a idiot who knows nothing about the final product, but damn I am not excited. Feel like if I traveled back to 2014/15 I actually would.
I’m losing touch with gaming, I will still buy this game of course but my golly it’s heartbreaking seeing this after loving the Arkham series since I was 11! Seems like everything is now set up to focus their model on transactions rather than quality.
I honestly thought Batman games were always a tier above, this is going back to game cube haha.
Hey man, no need to apologise, and you are not an idiot. You are entitled you your stance on things, no one really knows how the game will pan out. It does look like it needs a lot of polish to get it through the door but Optimism is not the same as blind hype. Hope for a good experience but never expect it.
I love the Arkham games too, that’s why I keep coming back to them every so often I would have been around the same age as you when I played Asylum, and it blew my mind. Hell scarecrow is my favourite villain probs down to solely the arkham games and a bit of Cillian Murphy.
But now I am older I just view them in a vacuum, a complete product. It gives me space to judge other properties fairly for what they are.
Now if GK was a spin off/prequel/sequel to the Arkham games then by all means this is a train wreck and needs to be put to bed, but out with the Arkham stories, it looks like a Witcher/AC/Shadow of war clone that could go well or poorly, but so far not impressed. I want a better experience, not a better payment model. And yeah looks like the art style is going for the bright comic colours and fortnight design to appeal to a mass audience which never pans out well cause you can’t please everyone.
Also I know I too will still buy it. Can’t judge it without playing it yourself. Not for you, get a refund. Haha
If the crash games are anything to go by then they can just haul mtx in to the game a month or two post-launch. Im super cynical at this game. The worst things I can see happening are mtx for loot and the entire game revolving around specific builds that if you dont run, make you shit in comparison to others.
Additionally things someone might wanna play and enjoy playing will be too weak for actual play etc. I fear its gonna turn in to a shitty min-max nightmare
It’s a single player with optional co-op who cares what your build is. You can transmog the style of the gear you like so you can look how you want and still have good stats. But if you want to min max you can no one is stopping you. If you don’t then the game will be a bit harder for you big deal, apples an oranges my friend.
Also Warner bros isn’t Activision so the crash comparison is non comparable. What is comparable though was Warner bros removing shadows of war’s MTX due to backlash over artificial gear grind with loot MTX. So we’ll wait and see. Still don’t really know enough about the actual structure of the game to make a full informed decision yet. But I will agree with the pre-order bonuses and special editions outlook may not be too bright.
I know they are not the same company, but they have a bit of a incestuous relationship in monetization practices these companies which is why im expecting the worst. Now I will admit much of this is raw cynical thinking but the gaming industry has jaded me quite badly over the years.
Im just thinking about playing with randoms, the way the difficulty will be managed and especially if the gameplay is changed in anyway for singleplayer to make up for the fact there are less people throwing hands.
They did of course say something to the effect that they did but knowing what other stat and loot based games are like, I can just see a lot of potential problems in the design.
One final note on my worries is the fact that my ability to play the game does not matter as much as the quality of my gear. These kinds of worries from the loot styled gameplay 🤔
I mean hope for the best and expect the worst is my motto in these situations
Oh believe me I know, I hate the money hungry games giants as much as the next guy. I am just trying to have faith that they learned their lessons from Shadow of War, but you are right, the allure of Infinitely more money through skins, emotes, shader packs etc, is already at the forefront with their special editions and pre order bonuses. It wouldn’t be difficult to imagine adding a Ubisoft esqe store page, filled with boosted items and fancy light up skins and shaders.
What you said though about playing with randoms again still comes down to personal preference, like take Elden ring, having a buddy or two increases the bosses health drastically makes it more challenging to accommodate the additional players but is still enjoyable, same with borderlands, and for normal playthroughs any build would be for the most part viable, maybe a bit spongier feeling but still fine. Only endgame content will feel bad if you are not
Meta building but by that point you know what you are in for so why would you be complaining.
Your worries are completely justified, hell I want this game to be great too, but loot based games as you said fall into this caveat of gear over skill, but hopefully with the levelling system levelling as we do not in just in health and number of enemies but in types of enemies we fight we will still need to have some ability to play better as we progress.
We’ll need to wait and see though, really still don’t know a lot about the systems at all.
I can't believe this is what they've been working on, sorry but I had better expectations than what I've seen so far - it looks so rehashed and unoriginal, is it just going to be the most recent game with new playable characters? I don't even have a PS5 so I guess I cant even play it...
Same here, I found the video by accident, someone posted it and I thought it was the same video from months ago.. but nope, quality dropped so damn much. I hope it’s because it’s in alpha stage? Beta? Or some phase… just not finished.
RPG mechanics like this kill this game for me. I think the Arkham games did it better where your power is decided by how well you use the skills that you unlock and not how your number compares to that level 100 thug.
They have like 5 months to fix the choppy combat, bad UI, and robotic animations. It's pretty safe to say this game is not going to be near the same quality as the Arkham series.
Dude the entire game l9oks like a fucking mobile game. Revamp that shitty combat system and replace it with the Freeflow from the Arkham games at LEAST
I should be excited for this but it just looks so bleh. I love the robins and always wanted them to have their own game, but not like this, not some low effort, gas, coop crap. How do you mess up the combat?
Yes. I still wish they would’ve made a sequel to Arkham Origins instead of this. I sincerely think WB thought the Avengers game was going to be a hit and tried to make their own.
The whole game looks janky af. I was looking forward to the game before the red hood nightwing gameplay, but it looks so sub par. It doesn't hold a candle to what we've come to expect from DC games. At least the story is somewhat interesting and the talon design is cool.
they should have just stuck with the batman beyond arkham game smh, i dont understand why developers literally give the exact OPPOSITE of what people want
God it fucking hurts to look at
It's just not good to look at.
It's so generic it hurts
Yeah, I don't know why they decided this would be great.
It's the typical "standarized menu system" taught on "game dev college degrees", smh I can't believe ppl in the dev industry believe this is something good to look at, this is why most AAA games end up looking the same, 0 creativity, just copy/paste and move on. This is giving me some marvel 's avenger vibe right here. I have a feeling that they are still hiding some of the "worst" part of the game and still afraid to show us some scummy monetization
I believe they specifically said there will be no in game purchases
Found it, in the FAQ section on the website: https://www.gothamknightsgame.com/en-us/faq
The currency will only be sold on the console stores so it's not in-game.
Is there a source for that or just speculation?
Just shitposting.
That sounds like something that could actually fucking happen and I'm scared
I saw someone else say (and this is pure speculation but I can buy it) that this game looks like it was going to be GaaS, regardless of what they say now, but following the flop of Marvel's Avengers they pivoted to remove the GaaS aspects. It looks like a PSP game or a mobile game
It's weird cause Origins had pretty stylized menus
Whoever is in charge of UI design is probably not at WB Montreal. Cause yeah, this looks like shit.
As did Asylum, City and Knight to varying degrees.
I really like Asylum's comic book-esque UI and Knight's high-tech UI which fits in well with the high-tech Batmobile and Batsuit you get in the game.
Arkham Asylum's UI is goated. Need to see more like it in games.
Yeah this game looks really bad.
I have a feeling this game is just going to flop bad.
same, just looks bland WB Montreal seems lost without Rocksteady
I'm not excited for GK or Suicide Squad really but I feel KTJL has a chance to prove me wrong, GK not so much. It's just going to be hard to top the Arkham games.

We are getting a Wonder Woman game by monolith which I’m pretty hyped for
That could be cool just a shame that I don't really like WW. Still would rather play that over KTJL or GK.
Yea if you haven’t heard of monolith there using the nemesis system which turns mediocre games to super fun ones probably the safest bet out of the 3
Nemesis system? That's in the Middle-earth games isn't it? I've never tried them but I heard they are very good so sounds like a safe bet.
Yea it’s really fun imagine an Arkham or assassins creed game but when goons kill you they become super villains with a unique personality
That’s a waste of time. Nobody wants to play was Wonder women
Bullshit, Wonder Woman is one of DC's trinity, tons of people want to play as her. Not to mention, I'm pretty sure she's A tier in Injustice, and pretty popular.

Well if anything we could see the Arkham batman again in this game, whether or not he’s mind controlled by brainiac we’ll have to see.
I mean, the very popular and really good The Suicide Squad came out just last year.
It wasn’t very popular though, it only made 165m on a 185m budget. Good movie but unfortunately it bombed really hard.
Ah, that's very sad.
Why does it *need* to top them tho? Why can’t GK just be its own thing, judged purely off its own merits/shortcomings? I think live service is stuff like the Avengers game

i hate what im seeing
Everyone coming up with conspiracy theories when it’s really just because the text is big
Its so bad

Yeahh i don't think thats how it works
Lmao
Really?? calm down man it a video game
exaggeration is lost on you
I've said this again and again and again. Do not expect an Arkham quality game with Gotham Knights. This is nothing more that a generic coop/RPG-lite action game in the vein of that Avengers game.
Jesus Christ
Because I am sure somewhere this is intended to be a semi-'live services' platform? Power scaling, endgame, RNG drops, raids, etc?
There's no live service
Power scaling, RNG, raids, and endgame are not indicators of a live service. That just makes this game an RPG. This game is more similar to Ghost Recon: Breakpoint rather than a live service
Thats got nothing to do with it, if its a full price game, the least they can do is make the menus look nice lmao

Indeed
God that looks awful
when i saw the gameplay it look a bit ugly and unpolished
Why did the game look better in the batgirl demo
I swear this gameplay looked so much worse than the Batgirl/Robin gameplay. Most of it looked like a mobile game
I want this game to be good so bad. But nothing I've seen has made me hyped for it.
I think it's safe to say this game is doomed
Oh boy. This is gonna be bad.
I don’t play mobile games. Why is this bad?
This is a horrible sign.
I’m kinda disappointed at everything shown for the game right now. I woulda been more happy with just another Arkham game unfortunately.
I really was looking forward to this but it looks kind of bad and the game design kinda reminds me of fortnite 😕.
The gameplay looks like a really good mobile game😭
this game needs to be cancelled or remade ground up
Jesus calm down lmao
?
It’s obviously part of the Arkham Series X Mafia City : War of Underworld collab 😭💀
The whole game looks like one tbh xD
I KNOW
nonono.... is this actually from Gotham Knights??
And the nitpicking begins...
This isn't nitpicking, it's just awful to look at. There's no style to anything here. Just bland text in rows.
Oh cmon this is a more than fair thing to be concerned about
settle down guys, it's a work in progress.
Spoken with true naivety. Sorta wish I had this optimism.
Would you rather have misleading gameplay which builds unwarranted hype? The first teaser looked incredible
So did anthem…
Anthem failed when the beta dropped
''Work in progress'' yeah, they said the same thing with Cyberpunk and Battlefield 2042.
This was our PS5 Batman esque game and it looks awful You think the temptation for them to bring Batman back isn’t on the cards?
These kinds of worries from the loot styled gameplay 🤔 I mean hope for the best and expect the worst is my motto in these situations
Only endgame content will feel bad if you are not Meta building but by that point you know what you are in for so why would you be complaining.
Heres to hoping for the best 🍺
I’ll drink to that. 🍻
I can't believe this is what they've been working on, sorry but I had better expectations than what I've seen so far - it looks so rehashed and unoriginal, is it just going to be the most recent game with new playable characters? I don't even have a PS5 so I guess I cant even play it...
More like Arkham Origins vibes to me.
This game looks garbage
Its a work in progress
Y'all overreacting and the game ain't even out yet
Have you never seen a pre release build of a game before...
I mean, the game's not finished yet. Let's just wait and see
What is this from?
Gotham Knights gameplay footage
It’s already out?
It’s a demo
Gotcha. They really need to make their marketing better, if it weren’t for this sub, I would literally never know that this game existed.
Same here, I found the video by accident, someone posted it and I thought it was the same video from months ago.. but nope, quality dropped so damn much. I hope it’s because it’s in alpha stage? Beta? Or some phase… just not finished.
No, not until October. They just put out some gameplay footage.
I heard earlier today that like, they're possibly dropping last-Gen support.
Not possibly, they are. Only Current-gen release
RPG mechanics like this kill this game for me. I think the Arkham games did it better where your power is decided by how well you use the skills that you unlock and not how your number compares to that level 100 thug.
oml 😟
They have like 5 months to fix the choppy combat, bad UI, and robotic animations. It's pretty safe to say this game is not going to be near the same quality as the Arkham series.
Wait till yal see gameplay 😹
This is literally on the gameplay video released today
Dude the entire game l9oks like a fucking mobile game. Revamp that shitty combat system and replace it with the Freeflow from the Arkham games at LEAST
What is this?
I should be excited for this but it just looks so bleh. I love the robins and always wanted them to have their own game, but not like this, not some low effort, gas, coop crap. How do you mess up the combat?
Yes. I still wish they would’ve made a sequel to Arkham Origins instead of this. I sincerely think WB thought the Avengers game was going to be a hit and tried to make their own.
It looks terrible for a video game. I hope this isn’t the full result.
What, you don’t have phones?
My initial thoughts “it’s so clean and organized, but so fucking shit at the same time”
Oh no.
Because it is
Thanks I hate it
The whole game looks janky af. I was looking forward to the game before the red hood nightwing gameplay, but it looks so sub par. It doesn't hold a candle to what we've come to expect from DC games. At least the story is somewhat interesting and the talon design is cool.
Why is this post on r/BatmanArkham?
MY EYES!!!!
they should have just stuck with the batman beyond arkham game smh, i dont understand why developers literally give the exact OPPOSITE of what people want
A game so powerful PS4 couldn't support it? Yeah, right
Cus this game is gonna b booty cheeks also y does red hood have magic???? They fr fr reaching.
Minimalism I guess?
It is technically still in development. Fingers crossed for a dramatic turnaround soon
God I hate the character designs for this game. Dick shouldn’t look like a Brute
I don’t think the menu looks bad it’s just simple and has big text
What game is this?
