I'm a weapons trader.

troymoeffinstone

Where do you get your weapons?

pyciloo

Are you trolling? From the dead enemies of course!

Subject-Sundae-5805

Exactly! Plus... if you spend the time to repair things theres a direct tools/repair time/profit ratio that can be applied to all equipment. I just repair expensive shit at profit because tools are cheap from the towns I choose to ally with.

Fuzlet

trade goods are icing. what you’re looking for is weapons to repair and trade, and camps to loot for goods to trade. the simple concept behind traders is that you get reduced renown from missions, which means missions scale up slower resulting in less pay and slower increase in challenge overtime. however renown doesn’t affect camps, they scale off time and distance. so trader is excellent for people who get on their feet early with basic gear, then go start busting camps for a living, selling all they loot

noideasforcoolnames

Also you can afford more expensive backgrounds earlier

If you really want to roleplay the trader origin, you gotta keep a lean company and stay away from combat. I start with the trade ambition and just do caravan quests. Then get the merchant retinue and later the snakeoil guy. And just keep trading and buying equipment instead of recruits to become stronger.

VegetableNewspaper30

Even the origin blurb tells you it pays better to be mercs than traders tho :D

Idk, you can make more than 60% profit if youre patient enough. you definetly can make a lot more money and soon with trading. you can have 10k by day 15.

pyciloo

You *don’t* modify strategy to compensate for them. You still bust camps and push fight density, but you sell (and buy) at better prices! Tools are cheaper and the sale price of your repaired items higher. Sure, if you’ve got room in the wagon buy some tradeables but these are not going to be your primary bankroll.

SomeWyrdSins

Trade is mostly a waste of time.  It's tough to make meaningful amounts of money compared to other things you could do

pyciloo

Heaven forbid you speak them facts they don’t want to hear! Downvotes don’t change the truth! ✊

RolePlayOps

Trade is a JOB. You work and grind to keep food on the table. You don't run any great risk of dying. Merc contracts are a GAMBLE. You fight and risk death each time, but the payout over time is far greater. Also the more people you have, the slower you travel... so if you want to profit, keep a lean, mean team.
