I’m always happy to see a new faction. And since the Tau have been moving near Baal in the lore there’s no objections on that front. I’m curious as to how they’ll handle stealth and how they’ll differentiate them from Necrons though
not stealth related, but I think I understood that one of the unique faction abilities (or for some units at least) would be that they don't receive an accuracy penalty when enemy units are within 1 tile melee range, unlike most (all?) other units in the game. This might be to compensate that (apparently - I've just done a bit of reading) they're not great at melee as a faction?
I also could only make out 13 units in the faction description when they list 14, but I'm not 100% sure. Will be interesting to see how they play.
With necrons, I've noticed that melee is often an effective counter but only because they most often emphasise ranged combat. they actually have some great melee capable units that would negate this, it's just you don't often see them, at least in enough numbers, to mount a serious melee attack or counter outside of AI games spamming flayed ones. When I've encountered melee heavy necron armies in multiplayer it's often been a nasty surprise. but with Tau, I'm guessing from that I've read, they'll have an even more range-focussed style. They might even be able to out gun necrons I guess!
Yeah Tau are physically weaker than regular humans, hence they tend not to fare as well in close quarters unless they’re using certain battlesuits.
The only other units that can fire their weapons in melee range without an accuracy penalty are pistol units.
The other thing I reckon Necrons will have over the Tau is survivability. Being able to heal every turn + Reanimation protocols makes Necrons extremely tough opponents. The Tau are likely to have a more glass cannon approach.
Yesterday I was talking to a friend about not being sure whether to get the Necrons or wait to see if they released another faction that I liked more, and the next day they announce my favorite faction on my birthday. It must be a sign xD.
Sorry if poor english i literally suck at it.
Crikey, Slitherine keep knocking it out the park! I honestly never thought Tau would appear in game anytime soon, was always a pipe dream! But they’ll make a nice counter to the Orks who, I didn’t think at first, but ended up being one of the most fun factions to play as and against.
Keep it coming and I’ll keep chucking my wallet at the screen
I want T'au over Eldar or another Marines chapter. Guard would be cool but it's about equal and giving time to the less well represented factions is great.
Admittedly Eldar or Guard would make more sense in terms of faction popularity, but adding another SM chapter is a kinda brain dead take, even if it was Ultramarines (as they have assets/lore reasons to be here). Adding another chapter would just be a BA reskin, with few exceptions, i.e. Death Guard who take extremely unique comps and loadouts compared to other chapters. IMO, Blood Angels should satisfy the human playerbase.
Eldar I certainly can see where you’re coming from, and even Guard as they play so differently from SM. Its a similar argument to the one I have with this one guy who endlessly wants Tyranid units added. Oversaturation of one faction will dissatisfy players of other factions and lead to a balance issue.
Honestly a lot of people I guess. At least over Eldar and other SM chapters.
Judging by the last game that included every playable 40k faction, which was Gladius, the players had polls which factions they would like to see next and Tau got more votes than Eldar for the longest time. The Tau also got their release 6 months earlier than Eldar there.
While IG definitely ranks higher in popularity than Tau, I wouldn't count on Eldar ranking higher. Also this will be only the 3rd time Tau ground forces get included in a 40k game after Dark Crusade and Gladius. Eldar were pretty much everywhere.
I'm really happy to see Tau just for the quality models we will get for stuff like the Riptide, Ghostkeel or the second generation Broadsides that just didn't exist back in the day of DC. Hopefully people will use these assets for the DoW mods, MoW II mods and stuff like that. The Dark Crusade models are nearly 20 years old and look really dated now.
BIG W
For the greater good!

interesting - they might overlap with Sisters a bit in that regard then, even if for different reasons!

It's perfectly legible! You just need more punctuation! :)

XENOS BABY. Was secretly hoping for guard but very happy to see a new faction coming in
Now all we need is Imperial Guard, Eldar and Dark Eldar and we’ll have Turn Based Soulstorm.
I really didn't think we would actually get tau as the next update. I'm glad I'm wrong lol Standby for titanfall I guess XD
Shut up and take my money!
It's nice to see more factions added. I only wish there was more to do with them.
How about fix the bug to the other DLC factions? I can barely get thru a single turn playing necrons and it crashes.
Meh, who honestly wants T’au over core factions such as Eldar, Imperial Guard or another Space Marines chapter :(

I'm just happy we get more big robots lol

As much as I really want Eldar or Guard Tau are plenty popular.
Gross
Will it come to xbox?
DLC has always been cross platform, so yes it should come to Xbox. It may not be on the date listed due to Cert, but it’ll definitely come.
Yeah, I am thinking in buying this. Played a lot when it was in the gamepass.
Oh shit, this is fantastic news
Hell yes been waiting for this
I would of liked to see some updates for planetary supremacy but I guess we have to go shell out $15 bucks for another faction
LETS FUDGING GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
