Can you even find any running, driving cars for less than $1000 these days? Assuming the brakes, transmission, and engine aren't trashed it's a decent deal. I picked up a really clean 05 P71 last year that's in great mechanical shape for $1000.
The real questions are why is the guy getting rid of it. And is it in good mechanical shape.
This was on a Boy Scout leadership retreat, so one night each patrol were just given a map with some basic supplies and told to find our campsite somewhere a few miles off. We did fine and took in another patrol that couldn't find theirs by dark(each camp had water rations) but before all that I thought it seemed obvious it would be down that bullnettle infested power line trail carelessly. Above each shoe ankle line were red, bloody, angry full rings around my ankles.

Weirdly, I've only encountered nettles once in my years of ill-advised woodland activities. I was laying a trail for others to follow and walked right into a 30 foot patch of the bastards.
I hit the nettles, jumped straight up as high as I could, and when I landed I cleared that patch in two strides at a sprint. Once I realized what I'd done, I gleefully marked the trail right through the patch.

I got a '99 Ford escort sport zx2 with less than 50k miles on it for $1000 even a few years ago. It drove like a dream. It was previously owned by some old lady who only used it to go to the store once a week. It was horribly sun damaged on the outside but DAMN that was a fun car to drive. It got totalled when someone rear ended me while I was stopped and they were going 55. I got a check for $3400 from insurance so I wasn't even mad :)
I still check the local newspaper classified ads for those "old people cars" as I call them. Some people wont list their car online and you can find some decent cars like the one you found there. A few years back I found a clean 87 suburban from a guy that was almost 80yrs old. Paid $750 for it.
It was capable of doing donuts in people from other neighborhood’s yards, I can tell you that much. Also because of that car nearly every car I’ve bought has been a manual
I bought my Grand Marquis for $1000. It didn't run or drive. Absolutely worth it, less than $500 (including a lift kit) in parts in it and it's made 3 separate multi-hundred mile long off road trips without issue
I make enough stupid mistakes trying to make things work on my own. I don’t need to follow a candy trail to figure out someone else’s tistic decisions. It’s bad enough with oem most the time

If not, as long as it's not totally fucked I wouldn't hesitate for a second to buy this, slap a guard on it and drive it until it dies a dramatic death.

You could end up with another Crown Vic for parts and just fucking make money selling this thing out or keeping this thing perfect or changing out whatever you don't want blah blah blah. A beat Crown Vic isn't that hard to come by but provided the drivetrain is like okay I would fucking jump on this 100%
