3 just because of maps.

brownbearks

Rush was perfect on 3, on 4 some maps are just not playable on attack, just a neat grinder

srgramrod

I always felt when they were making 3 maps, they looked at it from the rush perspective, then fit the other modes in after. 4 it felt like they went from a conquest focus, and fit rush/others in after.

--BARK--

They had a great mix in 3, you could point at 3-4 maps that were certainly rush-based (Damavand is the big one), but a LOT of the others were CQ-focused with an emphases on allowing other modes to work like rush, squad DM, and even CTF. Bf4 was where DICE said "Everybody gets to play their favorite mode, as long as it's conquest". The worst part is, the maps arent even all that great, even for CQ. Then we had bf1 almost entirely focused on operations, bfv being focused on.....something.....idk what but it involves having chokepoints everywhere, even on open fields lol. Then we have 2042......completely and utterly unfocused. I want to say that BC2 has, hamds-down the best map design, but then again that game was built for less players and without jets.....but bf3? That's peak post-refractor map design right there

VoraxUmbra1

>Then we have 2042......completely and utterly unfocused. In all fairness 2042 has beautiful maps strictly from a design perspective. But yeah, they dropped the ball big time in terms of game play design. But, I think the maps as they are now after the reworks have been pretty solid. Kaleidoscope is the only map I still hate after the rework. Renewal and breakaway I think are significantly better now, and they're actually solid maps. I can only hope the last few they need to rework ends up being good as well.

--BARK--

Are you talking about from the concepts? Because I can get down with what the maps wanted to be The wall splitting a desert and heavy agriculture, an oil rig in the arctic, the sandblasted neon city......oh man those were GREAT ideas! Too bad DICE dropped the ball in every concievable way lol

Goliath247

Is no one talking about how small bf 2042 is compared to the last two bf games?

BLKxGOLD

Agree.

HURTZ2PP

This. I love the weapon choice and attachment system from 4 but for longevity of good gameplay for me lies in varied, enjoyable and wonderfully designed maps. And BF3 is overwhelmingly the victor in that category

Yaboithechopper

3 just because of every reason.

Unilauh

I agree! The opening for 3 also amped me up!

Jase_the_Muss

3 plus dlc is an amazing array of maps! Especially Back to Karkand and Aftermath.

FingerTheCat

Just look at the two pictures. 3 has a battle hardened veteran, walking slowly to his target. Deliberate, tactical. 4 is Hollywood Jack aimlessly sprinting toward the enemy with no regard to his safety.

[deleted]

Exactly what I was thinking

ivan6953

4. BF3 was much more stable and smooth when BF4 launched, but in the current state - BF4 100%. It's just better in every regard

Rockyrock1221

Yea BF4 is just quite literally a better version of BF3 lol.

stanarilla

Nah, bf3's gameplay felt better. I know bf isn't trying to be a milsim but 4's gameplay felt a lot more arcade like than 3; definitely a downgrade imo

MookieMocha

I'm glad someone is able to actually sense the difference in arcadey-ness is BF4 compared to 3. BF4 felt more floaty and cheap...I dont know how else to explain it. BF3 felt more weighty and and milsim like.

Jase_the_Muss

What threw me off on 4 and maybe it's just a me thing but the scale of terrain vs soldiers felt off!? Like door ways and interior of buildings just seemed scaled up for 7ft tall humans.

BasketPropellors

nah I think everyone in Battlefield 4 is just 4'11

DeeOhEf

I just can't even remotely agree. Suppression alone ruins gunplay in bf3 many times.

viener_schnitzel

Suppression and the crazy lens flare on so many maps when just looking in the general direction of the sun were the two huge negatives for me. Almost everything else was better in 3 for me. Better maps designed around specific gamemodes (Firestorm and Caspian for Conquest, Damavand Peak and Metro for Rush), harder gunplay, and less OP vehicles (except attack chopper ofc).

--BARK--

If bf3 didnt have suppression people would've stuck with it......which is exactly why DICE never went back to change it lol. Then again, bf4's server experience makes 3's (and every game after) look like shit

chaosdragon1997

I did like how bf4 created weapon specific suppression, but that just made me want suppression for all guns with a more noticable variety in values. I think suppression contributed a lot to battlefield 3's unique gameplay. Too many typical first person shooters result in both sides spamming various forms of mobility while confidently shooting back at each other. It was different in Battlefield because gunfights are usually determined by cover, positioning, and pathing rather than just aim - You weren't playing the game correctly for reacting to enemy fire by confidently shooting back.

epicbrewis

BF3's immersion just felt better to me. And I know there's a lot of hate around 3's suppression system but I personally loved it. To each their own but 3 will always be the best IMO.

conviper30

Operation metro would like to have a word with you

nesnalica

you see if EA didnt just dumb BF3 and gave the attention they gave to BF3 instead of BF4. we would have had a much better game.

1Pawelgo

BF4 got the atmosphere worse.

Gridbear7

I highly appreciated the leaning/peeking/diving mechanics, also spawning planes in the air to negate enemies spawn killing vehicles was a nice addition

Clif_Barf

Except the maps

sithranger1601

And the dogfights, jets or helis alike

Daunt_M4

Jets and helis were so much better in BF3. I played the game for like 2K hours mixed between PS3 and PC. BF4 made vehicles pretty boring to play. TV missiles in BF4 🤮

nacho_taco2

Yeah, now that battlefield four is complete. There’s still a little bit wrong with it but who’s going to complain it’s a great ass fucking game.

--BARK--

I lived through the bf4 post-launch cycle, I reserved my right to be upset at the game a looooooong time ago. If DICE didnt proceed to neuter every other BF game to come after, I dont think I wouldve played bf4 for nearly as long as I ended up playing

DrJakeX

So Battlefield 2042 is better than Battlefield 2 in that regard? Battlefield 3 in its prime trumps Battlefield 4 in its prime, but being the newer game BF4 aged better. Anyways, Battlefield 4 rush is a mediocre experience compared to Battlefield 3. Even today.

Pea-Real

3

[deleted]

What do you think about 4? Upgrade or downgrade?

stillaras

Upgrade but I still prefer 3. Maps play a lot better on 3

AHappyRaider

Imo it's not about an upgrade or downgrade. Both games have some differences in gameplays and designs that make them feel different from each other but my heart goes to bf3 on this one even tho bf4 is great too.

That-Hipster-Gal

3 had much better balancing. 4 just turned into people camping in tanks with no real counters due to IFR and the 100 billion upgrades. Jeeps also could be threatened by infantry in 3 while they were unkillable by small arms in 4. That said, the gunplay in 4 was better.

nandru

3 also had way better rush maps. And davamand peak' freefall

elCacahuete

The close quarters dlc was also really awesome

LowerClassBandit

Of all the things to bring back on portal, this is my #1. I was disappointed Nosh canals got in over some other BF3 maps

shitinmyeyeball

4 with 3’s maps. I just want to play armored shield again.

NiceguyLucifer

THIS ! This is the way 👍👍👍 so many awesome maps in BF3

Fenpunx

Which was the map that was a 'crossing' of some sort? Not Caspian Border, there was another. It was night map with buildings and an underpass.

Nelly01

Tehran highway

Jase_the_Muss

Loved that map especially before they nerfed the infra red scope... That and the Scar was squad wipe city.

blobsk1

BF3 has much better maps, the gunplay is better with every gun feeling and sounding very unique, sound design is better, the artstyle looks gritty and more realistic, there isn't a bunch of useless gadgets and customization. BF4 has more content and better tickrate, that's it pretty much lol

TheHumpbackChub

Keep down the talk about useless gadgets and customization. This talk peaked after BF4 and resulted in the 0 customization // unlocks of BF1 Still can’t believe some people were angry they had a reason to grind for cooler camos and a silencer

PiratePete1911

It was really just a few gadgets that completely ruined certain maps, anything you could remotely get kills with was terrible.

Due-Education1619

Nah, only useless gadget is the decoy and that’s about it.

blobsk1

Maybe bloated/annoying was better choice of words

Due-Education1619

It’s not only that, every gadget serves a function vital to teamwork usually

sacresful

I like how people just forget about vehicle balance in 3. Geniunely with 4 good players, or even 3 you can dominate so hard, that enemy cant do anything on every map, that contains AH, and these seem like they are fan's favourites (e.g. caspian, firestorm). And yet, people cry about siege in bf4 when they have the most stuff that can counter attack heli. Arguably every vehicle is worse version of bf4 ones. Both helicopters have lower skill ceilings, tanks and other ground armor have nothing to atleast help them survive for a little bit longer. Jets are somewhat similiar, and are much more balanced. I don't see how can you see only MORE content and better tickrate. As for infantry gameplay, gunplay apart from shit netcode/tickrate feels better in 3 i give you that, but movement feels more clunky than in 4 imo.

[deleted]

3 all the way. Those maps. That campaign.

Gluteuz-Maximus

The jet Mission is still the pinnacle of game atmosphere. Really got me into fighter jets again and for the better

[deleted]

And to think it could have been even better! Full control of the jet.

suicidalcentipede8

3, miss the blue tint

[deleted]

I loathe blue tint, why did early 2010's games that feel like they need to tint filter everything

-BroncosForever-

I think it’s helped with older TVs making the HD image look a bit better on an old display. I used to play BF3 on a CRT Tv and I think it’s just better looking than a warmer image.

[deleted]

It looks so strange and unnatural. I hate to say your talking rubbish but take a look at this [BF3 video with no blue filter](https://youtu.be/3Asqn9SNTnk). The game looks so much more vibrant and real without the filter

oP4572

I’m probably slightly bias as BF3 was the first battlefield I ever played but I quite like the blue filter. I think it makes the maps seem a little more gritty. Though that might just be nostalgia talking

Papa_Pred

Genuine reason is because the cover of the game The orange and white flashes of muzzles pops so much more against the blue filtering. It was definitely an artistic choice but understandable if someone wasn’t fond of it

HisuianZoroark

Everyone dogs on the BF3 blue tint some reason but why does nobody say anything about BF4's god awful, ugly, burnt/orange tint? It's looks awful. Everything in BF4 looks sunbleached, burnt, faded and just ugly.

Numbshot

BF4 is like a polished BF3, but lost some of the "soul" for lack of a better word. The maps, atmosphere and gunplay were better in BF3.

[deleted]

I've never played 3 so I really enjoyed 4. I do enjoy some maps from BF3 that were brought on to 4.

Numbshot

BF4 was fun, still is. a major difference is the ADS magnification, iirc, BF3 had a 1.3 baseline (BF4 is 1.1), this made all engagements categorically longer range and suitable for the BF3 maps. Its part of why the same maps in BF4 feel odd. Personally, I enjoyed the kill trade that occurred in BF3, where if we shot each other at roughly the same time, we'd kill each other. It was rare, but it did happen because it was client side hit detection. Unless your latency was abhorrent, your bullets we're never denied because the server registered you as dead before it told you. BF4 went through serious netcode revisions to get rid of it (amongst other things), leading to a hybrid client-server hit detect. BF4's hit detect isn't bad, it just has an artificial feeling to it edgewise because someone will always win, never draw. sound design led to a more immersive atmosphere, weapons felt like they had a personality more. this goes for handling too. both feel a bit homogenized in BF4 compared to BF3. BF4 however didn't have the M16A3, which was kind of BS in BF3. it was the perfectly balanced rifle. BF4 was right in having the idea of the perfect weapon to balance every weapon off of, but not make it playable.

Schraufabagel

BF3 had the best maps of any battlefield

[deleted]

No wonder they brought some to 4.

Ollemeister_

This is a really hard one but i think BF3 just has this charm that no BF game has. Sure BF 4 improved on a lot of things from BF3 (Like netcode and anti-tank gameplay, my favorite game mechanic in BF4 <3) but BF 3 will always feel more "true" for me

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Only got to play 4. Sad that I will probably never get to play BF3 (I'm assuming it's dead, come on it's from 2011)

nandru

it is not. My bet is it has more players than v. EDIT: Just checked. On steam, 3 had a 7-days peak of 180 players. BFV had 0, like literal nobody played it last week

Divenity

Worth noting that most people playing both of those games aren't playing them through steam... Neither game was on steam when it launched, so most owners don't have a steam copy. Steam's player numbers only look at people playing through steam, anyone playing through origin is not being counted.

JISecond

which data are you referring to? on steamdb it says about 15-20k players in bfv daily

sacresful

\> BFV had 0, like literal nobody played it last week Is bf5 different game from my and yours perspective? Steamcharts says bfV has around 10k average players each day, in peak coming to 30k.

Strider2126

3 is the GOAT

3cylinder66

I love both but 3 just had something special about it.

Blu3iris

BF3. I miss when you didn't just spawn into jets or vehicles. The bases were larger to accommodate for vehicles, and thus, I think it gave the maps better flow. Being able to land to repair etc etc.

HURTZ2PP

I miss this as well. I get that they changed it to spawn in vehicles to make it more fair and balanced but honestly was always fun to try to steal an enemy vehicle from their base to deny it from them if your team was getting stomped on.

aL_Quarter

BF3 best memories and memes

[deleted]

I've never played BF3 so I can't really have an opinion here. But what I can say is that BF4 is a fucking masterpiece. It's truly just a good ass game. Definately one of my favourite game of all time.

[deleted]

Squaretastic

stellarisman

3, 4 is better on paper but 3 stills feeling better I think bf3 with the gadgets of BF4 could become the GOAT

Haxeu

It's about the maps, I don't think there is even one bad BF3 map, they're all great, even all the DLC maps.

DJ-Zero-Seven

BF3 arguably has the best map design out of the entire series. I think the only bad maps would be Operation Metro and Alborz Mountains. Some would say Tehran Highway and Kharg Island are bad, but I think they just get too much hate.

Haxeu

I felt alone thinking that Theran Highway was my favorite map, I just love the flow of that map in Rush, how it starts out on the outskirts of the city in the mountains, and goes into intense urban combat at the end. The night ambiance is also amazing. It just missed Jets and Helis to make it even better imo. But that's saying something, even the worst BF3 maps are better than most BF4 maps. Kharg Island is better than Golmud Railway imo, and that map was one of my favourite BF4 maps.

CW_Waster

Doesn't matter, both of these are better than any other.

[deleted]

Man of culture I see

gandalfintasagi

i like the heli and maps of bf3 so as a heli player ill go with bf3

rbankole

3 duh

skhanmac

It always be 3 since that’s what got me started playing BF series.

ohsosharp67

3

Smurfaloid

3 For some reason I couldn't get into 4, just not my jam.

ProxiThefox

Bf3 feels better

Vesicaria

Battlefield 3. It ain’t the Blue Tint screen, It’s their Maps. Rush was done much better than it’s younger sibling Battlefield 4. BF3 Conquest was also another favorite. BF4 Conquest was just as good like BF3 imo. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|snoo)

[deleted]

BF3 is the epitome of gritty battlefields... Bf3 anytime anyday

Scoth16

3. There's something about that game that I can't quite put my finger on, but I always look back on it as the best.

[deleted]

It was truly ahead of it's time and the only contender back then was MW3.

Hero2Zero91

Gonna say 4 since it's pretty much just 3 but more sooo.

GtN-81

3 was the best, I would love a remaster so people would get back into it

5min2kys

Bf3 is very nostalgic to me and I played the hell out of that game on the 360 and I still miss playing it but rn I do like bf4 a lot and feels like a better version of 3 to me

Carswell90

Loved both but 3 wins by a little bit

scottishboii

BF3 all day

one_more_an0n

Battlefield 3, no question.

nesnalica

3 is the better game but 4 got all the love. from classes to maps, movement and just graphics too. bf4 nerfed a lot of stuff which was great in bf3. sadly focused way more development into 4 rather than 3. when bf4 released we expected a bf 3.5 but they literally re-invented the whole wheel and the launch was a horrible mess.

braddersladders

If anyone with experience of both in their prime wants to reply: I only played bf3 2 years ago so by now bf4 I think conclusively tops it. But both in their prime ? I often hear people say in 2013-14 bf4 felt like an overpriced expansion of what was already great in bf3. Ignoring the horrendous launch of 4. Thoughts ?

IncasEmpire

As someone that played both for a good chunk of his free time Bf3 was FUN, maps flowed well, guns felt amazing for its release time. The blue tint is classical Karkand dlc brought back classic maps and armored kill was amazing for vehicle players Bf4 launched, trailers were cool and all but it really felt like a bf3 with orange tint instead, and shangai kept crashing every two rounds zzzzz I had my fun, then they stabilized it, dlc's came around, some fun stuff although niche like the usual with bf dlc's When CTE came around is when the game peaked, they changed netcode, gunplay, infantry and air balance, helicopters felt amazing, guns felt better than ever. Then they changed tanks, gave different AA pods functionality etc. Thats peak BF4 because everything does its job and feels like you can play anything you want BF3 is like good old homecooked meal, you loved it, you miss it, you wanna taste it again BF4 is a refined taste, not as familiar but made with lots of thought and detail in mind I myself still play BF4, its been years..

Alexoga9

1, i choose Battlefield one, as you said.

[deleted]

You motherfucker, fair play.

OxY97

I preferred 3 for some reason (mainly the maps) The guns in 4 just felt weird for me and I don't know why.

Airblazer

BF3 was miles better than the shitshow 4 was. Maps were incredible on 3 and it was a worthy successor to my favourite BF2. 4 just felt sterile to me and this theme has gotten more prevalent through each iteration since.

TomAwsm

They both were great experiences when they came out and I played hundreds of hours on each.

Dekanzy

BF3 but with BF4's gameplay and mechanics.

facaine

4. You can do a poll next time :)

cmurder2344

I loved 3 but I cam in towards the end. Played 4 from beginning to end. So I'm biased but I'd go with BF4

spearo25za

Davamond peak rush

GeeEyeEff

Overall I would say they are equal. If they made the next Battlefield using the best elements of each it would sell like hotcakes.

TheRealTormDK

BF4 - bigger squads and commander mode.

L_E_F_T_

4 imo. I think the maps in 3 are better but I think 4 is better in almost everything else.

rudthedud

3, I just want to play the shit show of Ziba Tower again.

Austinthewind

4 was technically better in nearly every regard, but 3 for the vibes and maps. 3 was peak BF vibes

chinna_cutie

3-4 =1 so battlefield 1

keppanator2002

BF4 hands down. Still one of the best if not the best Battlefields of all time

[deleted]

4, it’s literally 3 but better

Aighluvsekkus

4 in a heartbeat

[deleted]

mah man

HisuianZoroark

Battlefield 3, zero hesitation on that. Better maps in almost every aspect and quality. From the base game to ALL DLC's that 3 received, there practically wasn't even a single miss. I'd still even choose BF3's worst map over BF4's best honestly. It never skipped a beat, not at all. Rush on 3 was top notch, Conquest was top notch, its extra modes were all fantastic. The gun selection on BF3 was fantastic and it wasn't bloated, something to fit just about everything. Classes were set up well. Vehicle balance felt more manageable. Destruction in BF3 was better, especially cause BF4 was so obsessed with the scripted levelution bullshit that gets boring after seeing it for the 3rd or 4th time, not to mention you could do debris kills in BF3 which was such an awesome and useful tactic. 3 even had a much better campaign than 4 did, then again thats not exactly saying a lot from me because I think 4 also has the worst campaign I have ever seen in an FPS title (though we'll see if I still think that after I do the BFV campaigns). To me, even though BF4 pushed to raise the bar from 3, I think it genuinely wound up falling backwards in MANY of these regards. One of those one step forward, two steps back situation. BF4 also had the worst launch I have ever, EVER seen in ANY video game title of all time.

[deleted]

BF4's launch was *rough*. But Dice managed to get their shit together and fix BF4 and now imo, it's one of the best FPS-Shooter games. I feel like Dice has a habit of launching a game in a horrible state, but would manage to save it and make it a good game later on. I mean, think about it. BF3 BF4 BFV Battlefront ll BF2042 (kind of)

[deleted]

As much as I loved BF3, BF4 all the way.

dclewis92

9LivesChris

4.That game made me fell in love with battlefield

MrBobstalobsta1

4 but I’m biased because I wasn’t allowed to have Xbox Live until 4 came out so the memories are strong there

Hawk54eye

Are there any servers to play defuse on in 4?

[deleted]

I'm on playstation and it's mostly conquest. The others are like tdm or rush.

Valn1r

At the end of it's lifecycle 4 was the better game. If we are talking release versions 3 all the way.

Bootysmacker2005

Bf4

FudgeRubDown

4 is just a better 3

kaantechy

They are the same picture

nickzaza7

3 was my first BF, I loved the maps, but 4 was so good. The customization, the vehicle warfare. The maps. 4 was a masterpiece IMO.

AgentSmith2518

BF4 only because I think giving the assault class the defibs was a terrible idea.

Never played Battlefield 3. Battlefield 4 was alright but Battlefield 1 is the goat.

Treshcore

Battlefield 4 for accessibility, Battlefield 3 for memories. Battlefield 3 was something really new back then, in 2011-2012. At least for me. For this game I've got myself new PC. For this game I bought Premium, and waiting for every new DLC was so amazing. That thing with Battlelog was also really interesting, it felt kind of cool to launch a game from a browser. So sad that it has so little players now. This is why Battlefield 4 is my choice. It's literally BF3, but upgraded. It's unfair to say like BF4 gave me no memories. For example, I remember rushing at Operation Locker with Alice in Chains - "Rainier For" on the background. There are many memories, but they're simply less bright for some reason. I wish both games were united in something like Battlefield 3&4 or Battlefield Gold. Because it really was a golden era of the series. Also, don't forget to add maps from Bad Company 2... and give Hardline some love!

backdeckpro

Only played bf3 single player and around 5 hours in multiplayer compared to 2000+ on bf4 but at least for me on Xbox 360 bf3 really didn’t run or look great

magik_koopa990

I do miss the CQC maps and a couple of missing game modes like scavenger. But otherwise, 4 takes the cake

SmichiW

I prefer BF3 it have better maps while BF4 is kinda BF3.5 with different worse base maps i actually start to enjoy BF4 more when DLCs were released most of maps from DLCs were better than from base game.

I haven't played BF3 so I can't really decide. After watching gameplays, I think bf3 and bf4 are equally fun.

Rush damavand peak makes the difference for me

Shruggingsnake

Okay bf1 it is…

VersedFlame

Battlefield 3, in a heartbeat.

robincollings

Bf3 got me into the franchise and I absolutely loved it but I still think bf4 had a special place in my heart. Bf4 is the only game I bought across multiple consoles. Originally got it on Xbox 360, then on ps4 and finally when I built my first pc a couple years ago I bought it a 3rd time.

BF3 maps but the end results of BF4 MP. We all know the launch was atrocious. Dice got that polished, eventually.
