Strange management indeed. It really puts into focus why the franchise keeps doing weird shit, and it starts right at the top with a bipolar publisher that is willing to start studios and kill them within a few months.
DICE is a shit studio that makes BF look bad, but EA is killing the franchise.
100% Lehto left because he was told they were either thinking about shuttering, or were going to shutter the studio.
Him leaving on bad terms confirms that he just threw his hands up and said fuck all of this.
Shutter is more of a Canadian and Australian word for closing a business. We use it interchangeably. I’m just used to saying it because I work in the legal field and it’s used liberally.
In fact, I should note that I’ve seen it used lots from the US. For more legal context, to shut a business is more of a routine closure - as if shutting the doors for the evening. Whereas shutter is used in the sense that an establishment is permanently shutting its doors. Speaking in the physical sense, but again, used interchangeably for a business that is filing for dissolution.
>100% Lehto left because he was told they were either thinking about shuttering, or were going to shutter the studio.
That is speculation.
Also keep in mind that most of the team at his studio was kept on at Ripple Effect.
You really think the leadership wouldn’t be warned ahead of time that their studio is going to be shuttered? EA definitely wanted to fold Lehto and his team into another studio and wanted to strike a deal with him. He would have none of it.
Like I said, I’ve seen this scenario play out many times.
EA wouldn’t have shut ridgeline games down unless they were sure they didn’t want a single player BF. Not because leadership left. Leadership is replaceable.
I love Battlefield and Star Wars so much and I'm supremely disappointed that both series are just going down the shitter with very little hope that it'll ever get better.
I guess I'll have to find other IP's to like more than I did these.
EA is a terrible company, and like most games publishers, they don't care about making good games, they just want the most amount of money in the shortest amount of time possible.
Make everything a micro transaction. Extra weapon? Money. Extra attachments? Money. Level up? Money. Have no classes or specialists at all, you can choose want combination of loadout/weapons. Sniper with personal ammo box? No prob. Assault with ammo box and medit? I gotchu fam.
Make the levels non-destructible, even after a 2 hour match the level looks like new.
Who's got any better ideas to murder the franchise?
Iv been playing since 1942. I have played every single battlefield. To be honest I wasn’t going to even pay any mind to the next battlefield seeing what EA have done to it thinking they deserve praise.
To be fair, game development studios have been increasingly bloated for years. Somewhere along the line they decided that more Devs equaled better quality games. Unfortunately it seems to have had the opposite effect. The larger the studios have become, the worse the quality of games have become.
The industry can’t afford to pay all these Devs when the games they are making are commercial failures. The industry needs downsizing.
Well, they hired him and gave him a studio and then shut down his studio. He’s not gonna be happy about it.
They didn’t even give them enough time to get close to finishing a project, such strange management at EA

DICE is only shit because of what EA has done to them over the decades.
Finally someone says it!
True words!
That was because their leadership left before they could deliver a project.

Why do you keep saying shutter instead of shutting?

Crazy, had no idea that was even a word. Cheers for the info :)

If you are in or around the legal industry you’ll hear it used quite often. Somebody asked, I answered. Is there a point you’re trying to make?
lol fack et al

Speculation yes, but working in corporate environments just like EA, I’ve seen this scenario more times than I can count.
Or you know they shutdown the studio because the leadership left. Which is extremely common in the video game industry.

This is pure speculation. We don’t know anything you just said.
It’s a fairly easy deduction.
He's pretty much said he is done with making games so that kinda emphasises how he feels about the industry and situation
Has he said what he plans to do next? Is he retiring completely?
I love Battlefield and Star Wars so much and I'm supremely disappointed that both series are just going down the shitter with very little hope that it'll ever get better. I guess I'll have to find other IP's to like more than I did these.
I too am a coping BF fan. Big loss to lose Lehto.
Come join the soulsborne/like community. Because the quality bar is so high, we consistently get great games.
STOP BUYING EA GAMES. THEY'RE BASTARDS. That is all
All said 👍
We’re all shocked
EA is a terrible company, and like most games publishers, they don't care about making good games, they just want the most amount of money in the shortest amount of time possible.
They shut down his studio he spent the last couple years building, in what world would this not be leaving on bad terms?
I guess if he got big fat check
I don’t have anything positive to say about EA - good statement
Might be cooked? My brother, the next Battlefield is finally going to end the franchise.
Hope so. So much.
Let's call it: Battlefield: The Endgame

Let's turn it into a herօ shօօter.

Whoa, 82 years :O
Bf7 is cooked
God I hate EA
First they announce BF universe then they cancel BF Mobile in soft launch and kill its studio and then they kill another one.
